Ted G. Schleicher
Ted G. Schleicher, 82, of Helena, passed away Wednesday, June 9, 2004, at St. Peters Hospital. He was born to Gus and Hannah Schleicher Oct. 2, 1921, in Sweet Briar, N.D.
Ted attended Park County High School in Livingston and later joined the U.S. Navy. He and Eldean married June 24, 1958, in Livingston. He was a machinist for Burlington Northern Railroad, retiring in 1983.
Ted enjoyed restoring vintage cars, fishing, and particularly attending the grandchildrens activities. He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church and of the Masonic Lodge No. 32 A.F.&A.M.; in Livingston.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Daniel Schleicher, sisters Lillian Laubach, Dorothy Yale and Elsie Wilson.
Ted is survived by his wife, Eldean; daughters Janet (Rick) Parish of Helena and Diane OHara of Bozeman; brothers George Schleicher of Billings and Bud and Earl Schleicher, both of Livingston; sisters Margaret Hale of Livingston, Adeline Trucke of Big Timber, Ellen Sodergren of Texas; grandchildren Matt (Sacha) OHara of Richland, Wash., Kelly (Annie) OHara of Livingston, Amy OHara of Bozeman, Megan Parish of Billings, Mark Parish of Helena; and great-grandchild Gracelyn OHara of Richland.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, June 14, at the Holbrook United Methodist Church (corner of 5th and Lewis Streets) in Livingston. There will be a private family interment. Memorials are suggested to Grace United Methodist Church; 302 S. 9th St.; Livingston, MT 59047 or to the Helena Youth Soccer Association; P.O. Box 6972; Helena, MT 59604. Retz Funeral Home of Helena is caring for arrangements.

Lon E. Meldrum
Lon E. Meldrum, 56, of Lincoln City, Ore., died from lung cancer June 3, 2004.
He was born to Frank and Esther Meldrum in Havre on May 4, 1948. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1966 to 1971 at Malmstrom Air Force Base in Great Falls. In 1968, he married Jan Stuart in Hingham and worked on the family farm in Joplin until 1989, when he went to work for Boeing in Great Falls. He and Jan later divorced and he moved to Lincoln City.
Lon is survived by his partner, Sue Miller Poling; daughter, Tawna (George) Meldrum Parisot of Helena; son, Tim (Dana) Meldrum of Poulsbo, Wash.; his mother, Esther Meldrum of Chester; brothers Gene (Pat) Meldrum of Havre and Kent (MaryJane) Meldrum of Sebastopol, Calif.; sister Marlene (Don) Rocks of Joplin; two grandchildren; and 13 nieces and nephews.
Cremation has taken and services have been held.

Lawrence Gregory 'Larry' Stimatz
Retired Butte attorney and former legislator Lawrence Gregory "Larry" Stimatz died peacefully on Sunday, May 23, 2004, at the Butte Convalescent Center. He was two days shy of his 85th birthday.
Larry was born on May 25, 1919, in Walkerville, the youngest of four children born to George and Anna (Fabatz) Stimatz. He attended St. Lawrence Grade School and graduated from Boys Central High School in 1936. He graduated from Butte Business College, attended Carroll College, and completed his undergraduate degree at Gonzaga University in 1948. He earned his law degree from the University of Montana in 1951 and was admitted to the Montana Bar the same year.
He married Peggy Jo Doran on Aug. 7, 1948, at the Immaculate Conception Church. Together they raised 11 children. They were married for 48 years at the time of her death in 1996.
Following his graduation from the Butte Business College, Larry worked at the McNeil Island Penitentiary near Tacoma, Wash. In 1941, he began attending Carroll College, but joined the Army after the bombing of Pearl Harbor. He served in the Army Signal Corps from 1942-1947 and was stationed in Edmonton, Alberta, in connection with the building of the Alcan Highway. He also saw duty in Missouri, Washington, D.C., and Philadelphia.
Following his graduation from law school in 1951, Larry worked for the Social Security Administration and as an insurance adjustor. He served as deputy county attorney for Silver Bow County from 1957-1960, assistant US. attorney (for Montana) from 1961-1965, and as Silver Bow County attorney from 1971-1974. He was the attorney for the Bert Mooney Airport from 1979-2003. Throughout most of this time, he also maintained a private law practice. He was a member of the Montana State Bar and the American Bar Association for over 50 years.
Larry was elected to the Montana House of Representatives and served three sessions (1961, 1967 and 1969) and was elected to the Montana Senate in 1979 and served seven sessions until 1992 when he chose not to run for re-election.
Larry was a member of St. John the Evangelist Parish for 50 years and served on the parish council for many years. He also belonged to the Elks, Knights of Columbus and UCT organizations.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Peggy Jo, his parents, sisters Winifred Stimatz and Betty Doner, brother the Rev. Patrick N. Stimatz, nephew Don Doner and numerous aunts and uncles.
He will be greatly missed by his daughters: Margaret Ann Stimatz and Lisa Stimatz of Helena, Katie Stimatz of Camano Island, Washington and Kris Stimatz of Butte; daughters and sons-in-law: Marcia Stimatz Elchesen and Dennis Elchesen of Livemore, Calif., Betsy Stimatz and Pat Frawley, and Theresa Stimatz-Rivers and Bob Rivers Helena; Rosie Stimatz-Richards and Jim Richards of Butte; and Laurie and Keith Noem of East Helena; sons and daughters-in-law Greg and Karen Stimatz of Houston; and Joe and Beth Stimatz of Butte; grandchildren and their spouses Jason Elchesen and Amy (Elchesen) and Chris Cashin of Livermore, Calif.; Sarah (Frawley) and Will Frank and Joshua Noem of East Helena; Lucy Richards, Hannah Frawley, Zachary, Jacob, and Caitlin Rivers of Helena; Ryan and Amy Fleischmann of Houston; and Molly, Annie, Matthew, Daniel, and Andrew Richards, and Maggie Stimatz of Butte. His uncle Tony Fabatz of Seattle, niece Mary Doner and family of Dillon and numerous cousins, including Ray OLeary of Butte, also survive him.
Services will be conducted Wednesday evening, May 26 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Duggan Dolan Mortuary. Parish Vigil will be recited at 7 p.m. in the chapel. Mass will be held at St. John the Evangelist Church Thursday, May 27 at 10 a.m. Interment will be at Holy Cross cemetery following the Mass.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Butte Central High School or the American Diabetes Association.

Michael J. 'Mike' Jensen
Michael J. "Mike" Jensen, age 45, of Billings, passed away at Horizon Hospice Home on June 5, 2004, after a short battle with multiple myeloma. He was born June 1, 1959, in Billings to Robert R. and Anna D. Jensen.
Mike attended school in Sidney, Bozeman and Helena. While in high school Mike obtained the rank of Eagle Scout and worked on a grain farm at Poplar during the summers. Upon graduation from Helena Capital High in 1977, he attended college in Bozeman. He went on to work in the oil fields at Culbertson, and various jobs in Billings and Muncie, Ind., and out of the Plumbers and Pipe Fitters Union Hall, Local 41, Butte.
On Nov. 5, 1988, Mike married Amber Newton of Muncie. They had one daughter, Mecca Lynn.
He greatly enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, boating, flying and spending time with his devoted daughter and other family members.
Survivors include ex-wife and good friend Amber of Billings; daughter Mecca Lynn of Muncie; parents Bob and Anne Jensen of Joliet; brothers Tom of Billings and Pat (Debbie) of Shepherd; sister Roberta Jensen of Laurel; three nephews and two step-nephews. His paternal grandparents, Ray and Marguerite Jensen, and maternal grandparents Tom and Catherine Wetsch, predeceased him.
Memorials may be made to Horizon Hospice Home, 1019 Neptune, Billings, MT 59105 or to a charity of ones choice.
Graveside services will be held at the Rockvale cemetery on Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. Dr. John Lauenberg will officiate. A reception will follow at the Joliet Christian Church, Joliet.

Thomas William Massa
Thomas William Massa, 57, of Townsend, passed away Tuesday, July 27, 2004, at his residence of natural causes. He was born Sept. 4, 1946, in Townsend.
Tom was the fourth child born to Michael and Gwendolyn (Flaherty) Massa. He spent his entire youth in Townsend. Tom served in the Sea Bees branch of the U.S. Navy in Vietnam as an electrician. He spent several years in Havre and then returned to Townsend.
He is survived by his daughter, Taryn Massa, and grandson Troy Massa of Meridian, Idaho; as well as siblings Madeline (Fred) Heer, Bismarck, N.D., Michael (Linda) Massa of Hamilton, Larry (Marcia) Massa of Bell Flower, Calif., Penny Massa; and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 31, at St. Johns Episcopal Church, 314 N. Cedar, Townsend. Tom requested memorials be given to the Broadwater County Museum. Connors Funeral Home assisted the family with the services.

Gerald George 'Jerry' Ross
Gerald George "Jerry" Ross, age 58, of Helena, went to be with the Lord Tuesday afternoon July 27, 2004. His loving family surrounded Jerry at the time of his death.
Jerry was born in Hibbing, Minn., Jan. 3, 1946, to Harry James and Margaret Lucille (LaDoux) Ross. He received his education in Minnesota, graduating from Green River High School in Calumet in 1964. Jerry then joined the United States Navy Oct. 2, 1964, serving three tours in Vietnam. He was honorably discharged July 17, 1970.
Jerry and Coleen J. Leischner were married in Stevensville on Dec. 22, 1979. They resided in Missoula, the state of Alaska and Bozeman. Jerry worked for the Teamsters Union while living in Alaska. He and Coleen moved to Helena where they built their dream home on Lincoln Road in 1999.
He will be remembered by family and friends to be a man of his word. He also took advantage of what the state of Montana had to offer, hunting, fishing, snowmobiling and any sport having to do with the water.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, sister Evie and brother Larry. He is survived by his wife, Coleen, of Helena; son Lonnie Sturgis and his wife, Tammy, and their children Jake and Travis Sturgis, all of Gallatin Gateway; sisters Marcianna and Ethel of California, and Betty of Minneapolis; brother Richard of Stevensville; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends
A graveside service is scheduled for 3 p.m. Friday, July 30, at the Montana State Veterans cemetery at Fort Harrison with military honors accorded by the Montana National Guard and United States Naval Reserve.
Words cannot express the gratitude our family has for Sherry Ragensburger, the Hospice nurse, for her compassion, sincere friendship and care shown for Jerry during his last days.
Memorials in Jerry's name are suggested to Disabled American Veterans VA Regional Office, Fort Harrison, MT 59636 or to Hospice of St. Peter's, 2475 Broadway St., Helena, MT 59601. Retz Funeral Home is caring for arrangements.

Eugene Hjalmar 'Gene' Olson
Eugene Hjalmar "Gene" Olson passed away Sunday, June 13, 2004, at Big Sky Care Center. He was born Dec. 3, 1916, to Daniel and Helen (Hendricksen) Olson in Tioga, N.D. He completed elementary and high school education in Des Lacs, N.D., and attended Minot State Teachers College.
Gene served in the U.S. Navy for four years. He and Elizabeth married June 20, 1943, in Columbus, Ohio. After his military service they lived in Bismarck, N.D., and he was employed at Gambles. Two years later the family moved to Bozeman, where he worked as a car salesman, then in 1990 they moved to the Helena area.
Gene was a ham radio operator (WA7CAC), and enjoyed boating, fishing, traveling, his computer and especially meeting people. He was a member of the Gallatin Masonic Lodge #6 A.F.&A.M.;, and of the Covenant United Methodist Church in Helena. Gene was active in the Bozeman Ham radio club, loved dancing and belonged to two dancing clubs in Bozeman.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Alvin, sister Elaine and son Jerry.
Gene is survived by his wife, Elizabeth, of Helena; son Bruce Olson of Bozeman; daughter Janice Olson of Phoenix; and granddaughter Sarah Olson.
A memorial service honoring Genes life will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 17, at the Covenant United Methodist Church, 2330 Broadway. A luncheon will immediately follow the memorial service at the church. A graveside service with military honors will be at 1:30 p.m. at the Montana State Veterans cemetery, Fort Harrison. Memorials in Genes name are suggested to the Covenant United Methodist Church. Retz Funeral Home is in care of arrangements.

Doris Seaman
Doris Seaman, age 96, of Helena, passed away July 31, 2004, after a heart attack a week before.
Doris Lillian Carr was born Jan. 9, 1908, in Hartford, Conn., to Eula E. and Lewis E. Carr.
She married Robert J. Seaman in 1937 while both were working in Jefferson City, Mo. They resided in Missouri until retiring to Florida in 1978.
Doris was preceded in death by her husband, Robert, in 1986, and brothers Lewis Carr of Needham, Mass., and Francis Carr of Coldwater, Mich. Survivors include her daughter, Barbara Smart of Centennial, Colo.; son Robert L. (wife Carol) Seaman of Helena; brother Richard (wife, Shirley) Carr of Tucson, Ariz.; sister-in-law Mildred Carr of Needham; and grandchildren Carol Cline of Denver, Suzanne Lieurance of Littleton, Colo., David Smart of Prescott Valley, Ariz., and Jennifer Coto of Centennial; Nathan Seaman and Adam Seaman of Helena; eight great-grandchildren, two nieces and six nephews.
Services will be held in LaBelle, Mo.

Irene Kogele
Irene Kogele, age 75, of Broadus went to be with the Lord on August 4, 2003 at the Powder River Manor in Broadus.
Irene was born on June 7, 1928 in Center, North Dakota, the daughter of John and Mable Benjamin Yeager. At the age of 2, the family loaded a covered wagon and headed west for Montana. Below the Clay Buttes, between Powderville and Ekalaka on Stump Creek, they homesteaded. She and her sister attended the Powderville School, boarding out in the winter. Around 1937, they again loaded up, moving on to Broadus. In 1942, the family purchased the Terrett Butte Ranch. Life on the ranch was a struggle, but progress was made. She saw the electricity put in, as well as the refrigerator, instead of the icehouse and running water verses hauling water, from team and wagon to tractors and cars. When she was old enough, she attended high school at Sacred Heart in Miles City. In 1945, she married Robert Hope and to this union two daughters were born. They later divorced. Irene received an emergency teaching certificate in 1953 from Black Hills State University and began teaching at the Heitz School at Watkins, Montana located near Brockway. While there, she met and married her life-long love, Wilbert Kogele. They celebrated 47 years of marriage.
She enjoyed fishing, camping, playing cards, and caring for her family. She particularly enjoyed playing music at the Cashway Café.
In 2001, after being diagnosed with Alzheimer's, she moved to the Powder River Manor. While there, she was an avid bingo player, enjoyed listening to music and would give the staff a hard time, always with a big grin.
Survivors include her daughters: Gloria Compton and her husband Russ of Broadus, MT; Julia Gatlin and special friend, Kenny Gress of Ashland, MT; grandchildren: Kim and John Blain, Kelly and Kim Compton, Kacey and David Stanley, Mindi Hilliard and friend Danny Perry, Doug and Sammie Hilliard; great grandchildren: Jentry, Jarett, Janessa, Garett, Gavin, Kassidy, Kye, Tyrel, Taylor, MacKenzee, Ricky, Miranda, Kyle, Robert, and Natasha; her sister, Alice "Allie" Swope and husband Roy of Forsyth also survive her. Special nephew, Don Kogele of Broadus, along with several sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, nieces, and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Wilbert Kogele in 2000, her parents, and a sister, LaVerne Margaret "Muggy" Fox.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 7, 2003 from 1:00 to 6:00 p.m. in the chapel of Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home in Broadus. Funeral services will be held on Friday, August 8, 2003 at 11:00 a.m. in at the First Baptist Church in Broadus. Interment will follow in the family lot in the Valley View cemetery in Broadus.
Should friends desire, memorials made to the Alzheimer's Research, Cancer Research, Powder River Manor, or to the charity on ones choice.

Olive M. Hunt
Olive Hunt, age 86, of Miles City, passed away at the Holy Rosary Health Care Center in Miles City on August 3, 2003.
Olive was born on August 7, 1917 in Plentywood, MT to Maude (Ator) and Howard Ford. She moved to Miles City with her family in 1920, at the age of three. She attended schools in Miles City until her sophomore year when the family moved to Great Falls where she graduated from Great Falls Central at the age of 16. In 1937, Olive moved back to Miles City and in 1941, she married Ervin Hunt. They had one son, Jerry.
Olive was a cashier from 1950 to 1956 at the Range Riders Bar and Café. From 1950 to 1963 she was a housekeeper at the Miles Howard and Milligan Hotels in hotels. She then went back to bartending, where she was a bartender at the Bison Bar, Stockman Bar, Trails Inn and the Range Riders retiring at the age of 62 to take care of her husband who was ill for nine years.
She was a lifetime member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary. She was also member of the Moose Lodge and belonged to the College of Regents in the Moose Lodge.
Olive is survived by her son Jerry Hunt of Las Vegas, NV, her brother Clarence R. Root of Miles City, and special friends; Bob and Bernice Morgan and Joan Hagen all of Miles City. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ervin in 1989, her parents; Maude and Howard, her brother Orval and a sister Helen.
Visitation will begin on Wednesday, August 6, 2003 at Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, August 7, 2003 at 2:00 P.M. at the chapel of Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home. Interment will follow at the Custer County cemetery in Miles City.
If desired memorials may be made to the charity of ones choice. Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home of Miles City has been entrusted with the arrangements.
