Ralph Berninger
Ralph Berninger, age 81 of East Helena died Sunday April 11, 2010. Ralph was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on September 5th, 1928 the son of Fred and Anna Berninger.
Ralph served in the U.S. Army from 1945 to 1946. At that time he was a bow maker. In the 1950's he moved to Montana to work as a ranch hand and cowboy for many Montana ranches including the N Bar Ranch in Lewistown and Ed Grady of Canyon Creek. He moved back to Wisconsin and worked for Fred Olson Motors as an auto mechanic until 1975 when he returned to Montana. Ralph married Mary Gegenhuber on October 14, 1975 and later was divorced July 2, 2009. Ralph had a lifelong love for fishing, hunting, dealing with guns and antiques. He was always in search of that next 'great deal'. He loved to laugh and always had a joke to share with you.
He is survived by his ex-wife Mary Gegenhuber of Helena; his children from a previous marriage, Lisa O'Donnall of Lutz, Florida, Pam Mattley of Tampa, Florida and Kim Dean of Port Charlotte, Florida; a brother Harry Berninger of Milwaukee, Wi; his sister-in-law Mary Berninger of Milwaukee, WI; several grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Ralph's special friends were Bruce and Susan Held, Courtney Schorzman, and Brittni Wensel, and the love of his life was his faithful canine companion TJ.
Ralph was proceeded in death by his brothers Melvin Berninger, Floyd "Bud" Berninger, Frederick "Fritz" Berninger; sisters in law Irma Berninger and Olive Berninger; nephew Richard Berninger; niece Eileen Berninger and twin sister Betty who died as an infant.
Memorials may be made to the Lewis and Clark Humane Society, PO Box 4455, Helena, MT 59604-4455 or the Fort Harrison VA cemetery, PO Box 5715, Helena, MT 59604-5715.
Family will begin to receive friends from Sunday, April 18th from 4 - 6 p.m., Sunday, April 18 at Anderson Stevenson Wilke Chapel. Services will be held Monday April 19th at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Anderson Stevenson Wilke Funeral Home. Burial will follow at the Montana State Veterans cemetery, Ft. Harrison Montana.
Local arrangements have been entrusted to Anderson Stevenson Wilke Funeral Home (formerly Hagler Anderson Mortuary).

Luella Vine
Luella Casterline Vine, age 79, of Wolf Point, Montana went to be with her Lord on May 13, 2007 at Faith Lutheran Home in Wolf Point.
She was born April 29, 1928 to Edgar and Anna (Sievers) Casterline in Wolf Point.
Luella graduated from Wolf Point High School and attended Northern Montana College in Havre, Montana. She started her teaching career at Old Vida School and also taught at Wolf Creek School in new Vida, Pleasant Valley School and Southview School. She also worked at Public Drug Store for a number of years.
On October 5, 1952 she married Elvin Vine in Wolf Point. There they made their home and raised their three children.
Luella accepted Jesus Christ on Father's Day (June, 1960) and went home on Mother's Day (May, 2007). She loved to roller skate in her younger years and played the accordion, guitar and piano. She loved to read her Bible, sing and talk about Jesus.
Luella received a kidney transplant in October of 1997 and her kidney worked until her last breath.
Luella was preceded in death by her parents, Edgar and Anna, and brothers, Clinton and Clayton Casterline, who died in infancy.
Luella is survived by her husband of 54 years, Elvin of Wolf Point; children, Clayton (Wilma), Naomi (Dale) Erickson, Shannon (Deb) all of Wolf Point; brother, Willard (Viona) Casterline; brother-in-laws, Delbert and Norman (Pat) Vine of Wolf Point; grandchildren, Daniel (Skye) Blessinger of Belgrade, Montana; Justin (Christina) Blessinger of Madison, South Dakota, Cody (Sheryl) Vine of Bozeman, Montana, April (Jay) Wescom of Wolf Point, Chad Erickson of Boise, Idaho, Jon Erickson of Glendive, Montana, Layla (Rex) Averill of Gillette, Wyoming, and Lauren and Shantel Vine of Wolf Point; great-grandchildren, Daniel, Jr. and Jade Blessinger of Belgrade, and Anna Blessinger ofMadison, Jessey and Shay Rankin of Gillette; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation will be Friday, May 18, 2007 at Clayton Stevenson Memorial Chapel from 8:00 a.m. - 10:00 a.m. Funeral Services will be held on Friday at 10:00 a.m. at Clayton Stevenson Memorial Chapel with Pastor Steven Smith officiating. Interment will take place at the Vine Family cemetery South of Wolf Point.
Please do not wear black to Luella's funeral. She loved color!

Carmen L. Hill
Carmen Lee Hill, age 75 of Forsyth passed away on Saturday, November 8, 2003 at the Rosebud Health Care Center in Forsyth.
Carmen was born the son of Harry and Edith M. (Wilson) Hill on January 16, 1928 in Marissa, IL. He grew up in the Marissa area until moving with his family to Rock Springs, WY. Following his education in Rock Springs, Carmen began his working career in the oil fields near Rock Springs. Following his time in the oil fields, Carmen moved to Longview, WA where he was employed at the Weyerhaeuser Pulp and Plywood Department until 1961. While in Longview, Carmen was united in marriage to Joan L. Berry on June 4, 1950. To this union, six children were born. After leaving Washington, the family, their home in Sidney, MT where Carmen worked at the sugar beet factory until 1965. Carmen later worked as a painter during the summer and for Yellowstone Molasses in the winter. In 1979, he was employed by Montana Power Company and continued working there until his retirement in 1993. Carmen took pride in his work, was dependable and very conscience about the things he did. He enjoyed talking to people about the Bible and going out in the ministry. Carmen has served as a faithful witness of Jehovah since his baptism in 1952.
Carmen is survived by his wife of 53 1/2 years Joan, his daughter Carma Wilson of Michigan, three sons Kevin, Nate, and Stephen all of Montana, five grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, one brother Ted Hill, one sister Virginia Thornton, as well as several nieces and nephews in the United States and Australia. He was preceded in death by his parents, two children, Vern and Annette, eight brothers Allen, Ray, Bill, Chris, Wilbur, Norman, Wayne, and Lloyd and one sister Elizabeth.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, November 15, 2003 at 3:00 PM at the Chapel of Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home in Forsyth. Burial will be held at a later date.

Daniel O'Connor
Daniel K. O'Connor, age 96, of Wolf Point, Mt passed away Friday, December 29, 2006 at Trinity Hospital in Wolf Point.
Dan was born April3, 1910 to Daniel Joseph and Margaret Angelina (Keith) O'Connor in St. Paul, Minnesota. He grew up and attended country schools at the Sioux Pass and Two Mile communities. He was the oldest of eleven and was doing a man's work at a young age. He moved to the Poplar area in 1925.
Dan Married the love the love of his life, Mary Griswold on May 16, 1937 in Lewistown, Mt and made their home in Poplar. In 1943 they moved to Tule Creek and raised four children: Pat, Michael, Donna, and Rosey.
Dan was a life time farmer and rancher, Farming with horses till his first tractor in 1935. He enjoyed talking on the telephone and was an avid talked when the lines where first put in. He would talk to anybody that was willing to listen. Dan also liked to bargain and was willing to sell anything he had for a price. At one occasion he sold the kitchen table during lunch time. His children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were his joy and taught each of them the art of playing cards.
Dan is survived by his wife, Mary of Wolf Point; his son, Pat and Rita O'Connor of Miles City and their children, Casey and Scott O'Connor and Shannon Dowse, his son, Michael O'Connor of Wolf Point and his children, Shane and Rory O'Connor, and his daughter, Donna Mann of Wolf Point and her son, Marvin Mann; eight grandchildren, McKenzie, Jesse, Harley, and Partick Dows, Devin and Barbara O'Connor, Evan O'Connor an Paige Mann; two brothers, Richard (Wava) O'Connor of Sidney, Mt and Red (Joyce) O'Connor of Washington; a sister, BettyJane Snyder of Washington; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Rosey Pierce, grandsons, Lynn Mann and Chris O'Connor, brothers, John, Chris, Jim and Charles, and sisters, Margaret, Birdy, and RoseMary.
A memorial service will be held Friday, January 5, 2007 at 2 P.M. at Clayton Stevenson Memorial Chapel in Wolf Point.

James Walkslast Jr.
James, 'Jimmy, ' Walkslast, Ma'taa'e (Timber) was called home on Monday, February 8, 2010. He was born in Lame Deer, MT on February 16, 1947 to James (Walklast) McLane and Julia Harris Walkslast. He was given his Cheyenne name by his father who named him after his best friend, Pius Manley. James attended Lame Deer School and graduated as Valedictorian from St. Labre Indian School in 1965.
James worked for the Housing Authority and Tribal Finance before going on to twenty-eight years with Western Energy in Colstrip. James served in the Army from 1968 to 1970 including a tour in Viet Nam. Soon after his return he married the love of his life, Jolene Waters. They would have celebrated their 40th year anniversary this summer.
James was preceded in death by his parents, beloved son Jonathan Chance, brothers Clarence Rogers, Gilbert Walkslast, Sr. and Sister Frieda Walkslast Wessling.
James is survived by his wife Jolene, sister Linda Two Two (Bernard), and very much loved grandchildren Mariah and Evann Angelo, nieces Juanita Westbrook (DJ), Karla Two Two (Lonnie), Rachael Two Two (Tim), Marilyn Rogers, Arlene Rogers (David), Kim Rogers (John), Lee Ann Rogers, nephews Waylon Rogers, Gilbert Walkslast, Jr., Calvin Two Two, Jr. (Gina)
Among these last in particular are his god-son, Lewarren Whiteman, Cheyenne name namesake Jehan Walksalong, adopted granddaughter Cheyenne Olson, many nieces and nephews whom he regarded and treated as his own children. James is also survived by his brothers Manford Soldierwolf, Lynwood Ewing and Billy Mason, his brother-in-law and traveling partner Phillip Whiteman, Jr. and Ryan Olson, special friends, Lee Lone Bear, Bill and Ann Landers, Will Small, Wilbur Spang, Ray Paul, Duane Anckney, Joe Alden, and J. C. Bement. Other relatives include the Wanda Russell family, Alden, Rollefson, Whiteman, Waters, Harris, Blackwolf, Fisher, Walksalong, Soldierwolf, Atwood, Tallbear, and Clarence/Jocelyn Three Irons. So many loved Jimmy we ask pardon if anyone has been missed.
James loved the outdoors; hunting, fishing, berry picking and spending time with family. Quite a number of older people beyond his own family benefitted from the products of these expeditions. He could also always be counted on for birthday parties, graduations and other special occasions.
His travels beyond the reservation and his life-long interest in Cheyenne and other tribal histories as well as western history in general took him and his loved ones to many historical and natural sites all over the country. He was a proud honorary member of the Campbell County Honor Guard of Lafollette, TN. He participated in sweat ceremonies and believed in the prayers of the peyote meetings and in the end when he was unable to participate he would walk through at midnight water; James would then sit outside and listen to the peyote songs.
James always had a loving smile for everyone that had contact with him. He never said anything mean or negative about anyone. He truly loved his family and friends. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

Marie M. Lynam
Marie M. Lynam passed away on October 14, 2009 in her home in Billings, at the age of 78 after a courageous fight with cancer.
Marie was born January 19, 1931 in Great Falls to Mabel and Charles W. Marvin. She had 1 older brother, Charles E. Marvin, 2 younger sisters Karen and Helen, and a younger brother Kenny. She was raised in Lewistown, MT and graduated from Fergus High School in 1948. While in high school, she participated in music and was known for her singing talent. After graduation, she began her career as a Bookkeeper/Office Manager which took her to various auto dealerships in Billings, Oregon and eventually settling in Sacramento, California.
She married Ralph V. Miller in Sacramento resulting in the birth of her daughter, Marianne. After they divorced, she raised Marianne solely on her own. In 1971, an opportunity came to return to Montana with a job offer from Lohman Motors in Miles City. This proved to be a good move, as she met and married her soul mate, Robert C. Lynam. The family grew to include Bob's children: Mitzi and daughter Melanie Patch, and Marty, Rob, and Joe Lynam. Marie and Bob enjoyed 12 happy years before he passed away in 1987.
Marie returned to Lewistown after the death of her mother in 1990 to care for her father until his passing 4 years later. Also at this time, she assisted with the care of her invalid sister, Karen who was in a nursing home. She relocated to Billings in 1994 to be near her daughter. They enjoyed an especially close bond and were more like best friends than mother and daughter.
Marie loved to read, and play the favorite family card game (May I). Other interests included collecting Depression glass and ceramics. At one time, she and her friend Kay Geis owned and operated K&M Ceramics in Miles City for several years. Other hobbies included genealogy, following the stock market, and watching golf whenever Tiger Woods was playing. She also loved animals and always had at least 1 or 2 dogs. Dogs in the Lynam household were more than just pets, but members of the family.
Survivors include her daughter Marianne Miller of Billings, special dog Hailey and 'grand dogs' Jazzy and Crockett. Other family includes a sister-in-law Virginia Marvin, nieces Gayle Daigle, and Cathy (Greg) Pope all of Billings, Janice (Dan) Sutton of Orofino Idaho, nephews Rick (Sue) Marvin of Ridgecrest California, Mike Hines of Portland, Oregon, Donald Hines of Lewiston, Idaho, and brother-in-law Leo Hines of Orofino, Idaho. Cousins are Phil Thompson, of Great Falls, Jim Friese, Wayne Marvin, Dana Marvin, Gayle Marvin, and Jo Claire all residing in the Oregon and Washington areas, and Ginger (Bill) Ewing of Bakersfield, California. Also included are the following great nieces and nephews: Sarah Daigle, Colin Daigle, Tara Rosin, Sissy (Kane) Greenwade, Stacy (Mike) Ellis, Ronald Sutton (Cristy), Rick (Rachel) Sutton, Ben (Erin) Marvin, Jenna Marvin, Pete Marvin, Melanie Norton and Eric Norton. Though not related by blood; but family by choice and of the heart are Kay Geis, Ronda and Dave Worlie, Jim and Cecile Certain (all of Miles City), and Cleve and Bobbi Calagna of Alvin, Texas. Other special friends include the Wisconsin hunters: Gary Brosig, Glen Brosig, Ron Lax and Randy Revling. Marie was preceded in death by her husband, Bob Lynam, mother and father, siblings and niece Sue Hines.
Services will be held on Monday, October 19, 2009 at 11:00 am in the chapel of St. Pius, 18th Street West & Broadwater, Billings. Internment will follow at Calvary cemetery in Miles City at a later date. Memorials may be made to the Billings Food Bank, Yellowstone Valley Animal Shelter or the charity of one's choice.
A special thank you to Dr. Fiddler, nurses and staff of Hematology Oncology Centers of the Northern Rockies, Dr. Debenham and staff of Northern Rockies Radiation Oncology Center, the special ladies at Antique Rose Care Management, and Riverstone Health and Hospice.

MaryLou Hampton
MaryLou Hampton, age 61, of Miles City, MT passed away on September 27, 2005 surrounded by her family in Billings, MT, after a brief battle with colon cancer.
MaryLou was born in Miles City, Mt on February 19, 1944 to Walter and Thelma (Morgan) Sprandel. They lived in Miles City where she attended schools and graduated from Custer County High School in 1962. After attending MCC, MaryLou married Michael Lowry in Miles City. They moved to Boulder, Colorado and then Bozeman, MT where she lived until 1994 when she moved to Missoula. After her father passed away in 1997, MaryLou moved back to Miles City. In December of 2003, MaryLou and Bill Hampton were married in Miles City and she has resided in Miles City since.
MaryLou had an adventurous spirit and enjoyed trying new things. She loved all things outdoors, especially fishing. Foremost, she enjoyed her family and many special friends.
MaryLou was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Thelma Sprandel and her brother, Donnie Sprandel. She is survived by her husband, Bill Hampton; children, Brad Lowry and his wife Laura and Nicole Sundt and her husband Clint; step-children, Paul Hampton and his wife Eiko and their daughter Ellie, and Will Hampton; sisters, Norma Johnsgard, Judy Rivera, and Bonnie Kolka; brothers Ray Sprandel and Kim Sprandel; five grandchildren, Lucas and Morgan Lowry, and Riann, Caden, and Cole Sundt, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 1, 2005 at 11:00 at the Grace Bible Church in Miles City, MT. Condolences can be sent to the family by visiting www.stevensonandsons.com. Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home of Miles City has been entrusted with the arrangements.

Raymond Tallwhiteman
Raymond Tallwhiteman (Namus) age 65, great grandson of Tallwhiteman the Cheyenne warrior, of Lame Deer passed away on June 18, 2003 at the Lame Deer Clinic.
Raymond was born on January 13, 1938 at Crow Agency the son of Jasper Tallwhiteman and Alice Parker. He grew up and was educated on the Northern Cheyenne Reservation. Following his graduation from High School, he continued his secondary education at Carroll College in Helena. Raymond later enlisted in the United States Navy where he served for the next ten years. After his honorable discharge from the Navy, Raymond returned to the Northern Cheyenne Reservation where he was employed as a policeman. He later moved to Helena to work in the council for aging services department, Raymond later returned to the Northern Cheyenne Reservation and worked for the BIA until his retirement in 1987. Raymond was united in marriage to Mercedes Littlehead on August 29 1985 in Lame Deer.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, riding horses and being out doors. He was especially proud of his Northern Cheyenne Heritage.
Raymond is survived by his children Glenn Tallwhiteman of California, Everett Tallwhiteman of Lefbridge, Alberta Canada, Patrick Doyle Sr. of Hardin, Robert Doyle Jr. of Billings, Judy Harris of Lame Deer, Valarie Nation of Billings, Melissa Tallwhiteman of Lame Deer, and Sherri Doyle of Lame Deer; his brothers Dennis Tallwhiteman of Fort Washakie, WY and John Tallwhiteman of Duluth, Minnesota; 27 grandchildren and five great grandchildren. He is also survived by two aunts Beth Ann Riojas of Lame Deer, and Susie Wilsey of Poplar; one uncle Joseph Tallwhiteman of Busby; as well as several extended families which include the Parkers, Clubfoots, Sandcranes, Littlebirds, Bear Come Out, Spotted Wolf, Shermans, Shoulder Blades, Rowlands, Robinson's LaRance's and the Youpee family of the Fort Peck Reservation.
Raymond was preceded in death by his parents, one brother Richard Tallwhiteman and a sister Mary Ann Rochelle.
Funeral mass will be on Monday, June 23, 2003 at 11:00 AM at the Blessed Sacrament Church in Lame Deer. A wake will be on Sunday June 22, 2003 at 8:00 PM at the Blessed Sacrament Church in Lame Deer. Burial will be in the family lot of the St. Labre cemetery.

Paul Daniel Shoup
December 5, 1923 - March 11, 2009
Paul Daniel Shoup of Billings, MT passed away Wednesday, March 11, 2009 at the age of 85.
Paul was born on December 5, 1923 in Ingomar, MT to John A. and Maude E. Shoup. His family operated a ranch north of Ingomar, where he was raised and attended school. After graduation he joined the Navy working on a tanker ship based in Los Angeles. After discharge from the Navy he met and married the love of his life, Claire (deceased). Paul moved to the family ranch with Claire in the 50's but failed to make a go of it, so they returned to Los Angeles, where Paul worked as a dispatcher for the County of Los Angeles until Claire passed away in 1974. Paul moved to Montana and again tried his hand at ranching before returning again to Los Angeles. Shortly after his marriage to Paris he returned to Montana and stayed. He stayed for a while on the family ranch north of Ingomar; then he moved to Melstone prior to settling in Billings.
Paul especially enjoyed his music. His mother was a music tutor and he had played in a band in his youth and enjoyed joining in with any impromptu group that was playing.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Claire, his brothers, Robert and William and his sister, Barbara. He was divorced from his second wife, Paris, and had no children.
Survivors include nieces and nephews from his brother, William: Linda Shoup of Renton, Dale Shoup of Edmonds, Roy Shoup of Mountlake Terrace, and Carl Shoup of Seattle, all in Washington, and Judy Shoup of Ketchikan, Alaska in addition to four grandnephews: David Shoup of Auburn, Philip Shoup of Seattle, both in Washington, Aaron Shoup in Florida and Dana Shoup in Kansas. He may also be survived by his brother John and John's children but details are unknown.

Carlot Ovid Lother Nellermoe
Carlot Ovid Lother Nellermoe, age 99, of Miles City formerly of Beach, ND and Glendive, MT, passed away on June 6, 2005 at the Friendship Villa in Miles City, MT.
Carlot was born on July 1, 1905 in Christine, North Dakota to Andrew and Marie Nellermoe. Carlot went to country schools in North Dakota as a young child. The family moved to Trotters, ND, North of Beach, where his family operated the Trotters General Store during the depression. Carlot worked for area ranches and enjoyed being outside. Carlot married Hollace Bishop on October 31, 1935 in Golva, ND and continued working for ranches until he attended Barber School in Fargo, ND. Carlot and Hollace moved to Watford City where he apprenticed until moving to Beach where he operated his own Barber Shop. They moved north of Trotters where he ranched until 1995. He then sold his ranch, and remained living in Wibaux, MT until moving to Glendive. In 1999 he moved to Miles City where he has made his home since.
Carlot loved horses and riding them. He had a passion for pool, baseball, and enjoyed playing on the Beach Baseball team for many years. Carlots family was most important to him. He cherished the time he was able to spend with them especially enjoying his grandchildren.
Carlot is survived by his two sons; Rudolph (Susan) Nellermoe of Cottage Grove, OR, Ron Nellermoe of Alamogordo, NM, two daughters Marilyn (Wes) Allerdings of Glendive, MT and Ramona 'Tody' (Dan) Kukowski of Glendive, MT thirteen grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. He was preceded in death by his wife Hollace in 1985, son Russell in 2000, parents, four brothers and three sisters.
Visitation will be held on Friday, June 10, 2005 at Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home in Miles City. Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, June 11, 2005 at 11:00 am at the St. Peters Catholic Church in Wibaux, MT. Rite of Committal will be held at 2:00pm at the Beach cemetery in Beach, ND.
If desired, memorials may be made to the charity of ones choice.
