C. K. Drew
Clarence Keith 'CK' Drew, 52, suddenly passed away at his residence and went home to be with the Lord and Savior on the evening of February 25, 2007.
CK was a devoted father, brother, neighbor and a friend to many. He lived 52 years and left us too soon after a long-fought battle with heart disease and diabetes.
CK was born October 25, 1954, in Miles City, Montana to Martha Ann Drew Hance Corrow & Keith Drew. He was raised on his grandmother May Pain's sheep ranch near Weldon, Montana and graduated from Circle High School in the Class of 1973. He played football and basketball and during his senior year managed the body shop at Frontier Ford. He spent several years drilling oil in Montana and the Dakota's. He also worked for the county road department in the legendary winter of 1978-79 and then went on to start and own his own body shop Circle Body Works which he ran for 20 years. For seven of those years he owned and managed the Corner Bar in Circle with his long-time friend, mentor and former father-in-law Woody Hawkinson. CK enjoyed the outdoors and Fort Peck Lake. He loved to camp, fish, hunt, and later excelled at gold panning. He also loved taking trips to Puerto Rico with his friend Jim Bryan.
CK married his first wife, Gina Hawkinson, in Sturgis, South Dakota in 1978. They had two children of which only one survived. They were later divorced. He married his second wife, Denise Olson, in December of 1998. Out of this union one child was born. They were later divorced.
CK is survived by his special friend, Mona Sult, of Billings, Montana; son, Cody Woodrow Drew of Circle, Montana; son, Weldon Naveron Drew of Richey, Montana; mother, Martha Ann (Erwin) Hance Corrow of Circle, Montana; his biological father, Keith Drew of Red Oaks, Texas; five brothers, Jim (Darlene) Hance of Gillette, Wyoming, Kevin (Cheryl) Hance, Mark (Peggy) Hance, Flint (Jana) Hance, all of Billings, Montana and Brett Hance of Circle, Montana; three sisters, Dallas Curtiss of Phoenix, Arizona, Kitty (Jim) Sorlie, and Jennifer Waller, all of Billings, and many special friends throughout the world.
CK was preceded in death by his son, CJ Drew, his brother, Bob Hance, his nephew, Kory Hance, his stepfather George Hance and his mentor of several years Woody Hawkinson.
May the sun shine upon his face, may the wind be at his back, and may he be three days in heaven with the Lord before the devil knows he's dead. We will miss him very much and 'I love you dad.'

Ramona Honstain
Ramona Honstain, age 79, of Miles City passed away on Thursday, September 24, 2009 at Holy Rosary Health Care in Miles City.
Ramona was born on February 9, 1930 in Lemmon, South Dakota the daughter of Vinal Reeser and Margaret (Stephenson) Parrott. She attended schools in South Dakota where she graduated from high school. Ramona went on to begin nurses training in Aberdeen, SD for three months before moving to Miles City where she finished training to become a registered nurse. Ramona and Al Honstain were married in 1961 and they lived in Miles City, where they started their family. Ramona continued on with her education and soon received her Nurse practitioners Licenses from North Dakota and returned home to Miles City. Ramona dedicated several decades of her life to serving the Miles City as a nurse practitioners, something she was very proud of. She worked at both the Holy Rosary Hospital and the VA Hospital. After Ramona's retirement, she volunteered in many capacities in the church and medical areas.
Ramona's welcoming smile and kind hands will be missed by many.
Ramona is survived by her sons; Brian (Grace) Honstain of Billings, MT and Pat Honstain of Powell, WY, Pam Honstain and sister LaVonne Sherwood of Wallace, Idaho, a sister-in-law Betty Parrott of Rapid City, SD, four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Al, son Bruce Honstain, a grandson Josh Honstain, and brother Vinal Parrott, Jr.
Visitation will be held on Friday, September 25, 2009 at Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home in Miles City with family receiving friends from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 26, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Miles City. Interment will follow in the family lot of the Custer County cemetery in Miles City.
Should friends desire, memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church in Miles City. Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home of Miles City has been entrusted with the arrangements.

Margaret Loomis
Mary Margaret Loomis, age 89, of Jordan went to be with the Lord on September 8, 2009 at the Garfield County Nursing Home in Jordan, MT.
Margaret was born on November 6, 1919 in Spooner, Wisconsin the daughter of John and Esther (Buck) McKnight. She moved to Ingomar, MT as a young child where she attended country school. Later on, she met and married Edgar Loomis on December 15, 1937 at Jordan, MT. Margaret and Edgar moved to Brusett, MT where they ranched and she lived for 71 years. After Edgar passed away in December of 2002, Margaret lived alone at the ranch before moving to the Garfield County Nursing Home on February 2, 2008.
Margaret‘s greatest love and enjoyment was being a wife, mother and grandmother, her family was her life. She kept a large bulletin board up of her family. She loved the Lord Jesus Christ, and was active in her church. Margaret loved raising a garden, chickens, bum lambs and helping out where ever she was needed. She had done a lot of canning throughout her lifetime. She enjoyed sewing and embroidery, crocheting and sewing. Margaret entered many things yearling in the county fair.
Margaret is survived by her sons; John (Lillian) Loomis of Jordan and Fred Loomis of Brusett, MT, sister; Doris Barclay of Jordan, MT, sisters-in-law; June Loomis of Brusett, Clara Vannoy of Lewistown, MT and Ellen Saylor. She is also survived by nine grandchildren, thirty-six great-grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren. Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Edgar in 2002, granddaughter Melissa Loomis, Brother Bud McKnight and daughter-in-law Darlene Loomis in 2009.
Graveside services will be held on September 14, 2009 at 11:00 am at the Hearts of Peace cemetery in Brusett, MT.

Eugene L. Big Leggins
Eugene Loren Big Leggins, age 49, of Frazer, MT passed away September 10, 2009 at the Billings Clinic in Billings, MT due to a head injury.
Eugene was born December 13, 1959 in Poplar, MT to Sherwin Big Leggins Sr. and Bernice Smoker-Turn Toes. He was the sixth born of eight brothers.
Eugene worked as a seasonal firefighter. Gene loved spending time with his family. He enjoyed going to Pow-wows and loved to fish. His greatest love was his grandchildren.
Gene was preceded in death by his parents, Sherwin Big Leggins Sr. and Bernice Smoker-Turn Toes; and son, Eric Big Leggins.
Gene is survived by his son, Loren Big Leggins and family of Denver, CO; a special friend, Roberta White of Frazer; step-daughter, Sharon (Aaron) Lilley and step-grandchildren Erin and Delray Lilley of Wolf Point, MT; step-daughter, Sabrina Smoker of Frazer; auntie, Vera (John Henry) Ironman of Poplar; uncle, Kenneth (Theresa) Smoker of Poplar; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and grandkids; brothers, Sherwin (Gina) Big Leggins Jr. of Albi, NM, Harold Big Leggins of Fort Belknap, MT, Dwight Big Leggins of Wolf Point, David (Frances) Big Leggins of Frazer, Dewayne (Clarice) Big Leggins of Wolf Point, Franklin (Rosanne) Turn Toes of Frazer and Rodney (Ronna) Turn Toes of Rocky Boy, MT; sister, Adeline Rose (Bobby) White of Frazer; nephews, Christopher (Dani) Follette of Helena, MT, Roy (Thella) Big Leggins of Ignacia, CO, Danny Big Leggins and Dusty Big Leggins of NM, Harold Big Leggins Jr. and Leland Big Leggins of Poplar, Dexter Turntoes of Deer Lodge, MT, Jason and Dusty Clampitt of Frazer, Adrian Big Leggins of Albi, Curtis Smoker of Frazer, Sheldon Smoker of Wolf Point, and Rodney Turn Toes Jr., Isiah Turn Toes and Lane Turn Toes, all of Rocky Boy; nieces, La Toya (Rilo) Roundface of Billings, Ronny Jo Turn Toes of Rocky Boy and Shayna Turn Toes of Frazer.
Visitation will be held Sunday, September 13, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. with a Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m. at Clayton Stevenson Memorial Chapel in Wolf Point. His Funeral Service will be Monday, September 14, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. at Clayton Stevenson Memorial Chapel in Wolf Point. Interment will follow at St. Joseph’s cemetery in Frazer, MT.
Following Interment there will be a traditional Four-Day Feast at the Frazer Community Hall.

Randall C. Billing
Randall C. Billing, age 67, of Jordan passed away on Wednesday, April 22, 2009 at the Garfield County Health Center after battling a long illness.
Randy was born on August 25, 1941 in Billings, Montana to Ross and Evelyn (Burghart) Billing. At age 2, they moved to the Big Dry where he lived until he graduated and went to the service. Randy served from November of 1960 to October 1963 in the Army. When he returned home, he married Gloria Liebelt. He worked for ranchers in the community and for Vaughn Newland doing dirt work and a little sheep shearing. In 1969, he bought the Mahoney Ranch where he farmed, ranched and did some mechanic work on the side. He also drove truck hauling hay for ranchers in the community along with his brother Don. He always tried to be a good neighbor and help those broke down on the road. He loved to visit and have a beer and a little jam session always made it better. In 1987, he married Pearl Wemmer. He continued to ranch until his illness took over and he retired in 1995. In 2001, he had to start dialysis at Poplar and took up most of his time. At this time we would like to acknowledge all the people who helped drive over the years or contributed to expenses. Also a special thanks to brother Dave, you went above and beyond we appreciated it greatly. We could not have done it without all of you. Thanks!
Randy was a member of the VFW, NFO Grain Association, NRA, Jaycee's, and the Van Norman School Board. Randy enjoyed driving school bus for many years. He enjoyed music, and loved visiting with anyone that stopped by. He also enjoyed his animals including horses, dogs, cattle, pigs, and his black cats. He enjoyed working on cars and rebuilt a pickup from scratch.
He is survived by his wife, Pearl Billing of Jordan, MT; a daughter, Holly (Shane) Harbaugh; sons Lee (Charlotte) Billing, Kaylin Billing all of Jordan, MT; and Nolan Billing of Billings, MT; a step-son, Kevin Ward of Park City, MT; grandchildren: Skylar Harbaugh of Billings, MT; Chantel (Bill) Brooks and great grandchild Edward Brooks all of Jordan, MT; a brother, Monte (Judy) Billing of Jordan, MT; a sister-in-law, Terry Billing of Forsyth, MT; and aunts: Mary Billing, May Billing of Jordan, MT; and Este Billing of Oregon. He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Gloria, two brothers: Barry Ross and Donald Glen, uncles, aunts and cousins.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, April 26, 2009 from 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home in Jordan. Funeral services will be held on Monday, April 27, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at the VFW Hall in Jordan. Interment will follow in the family lot of the Pioneer cemetery in Jordan with full military honors.

Mary Beecher
Mary Marjorie Beecher was born July 24, 1924 in Belaire, OH, the oldest child of Margaret May (Underwood) and Wallace Paige Green. Mary was raised in and around Winnett and graduated from Winnett High School. Mary was united in marriage to Walter Raymond Beecher on June 11, 1942 and from that union three sons were born, Floyd Raymond, Donald Glen and James Jay. Mary spent the majority of her life as a ranch wife caring for her family and helping on the family ranches in the Winnett, Snow Creek and Cohagen areas. Mary later moved to Jordan and provided countless hours of loving care for her grandchildren and many local residents' children for the rest of her life. Mary's life was her family and she was always up for a new adventure. She shared a close and loving relationship with her siblings, taking road trips, playing board and card games and reminiscing about their younger years. She was immensely proud and supportive of her grandchildren. Mary passed away on March 16, 2009.
She is survived by her sons, Floyd (Kay) Beecher, Glen Beecher and Jim (Karen) Beecher, grandchildren Dawn (John) Ripley, Pam (S.J.) Cayer, Bryce (Kristin) Beecher, Charles (Kacey) Beecher, Brandi, Staci, Kristi and Mitzi Beecher and great grandchildren Michael and Anna Ripley; Laramie Kyhl, Wyatt, Casey and Garrett Cayer; Seeley Beecher and Jordan Beecher; her brother Henry (Louise) Green and her sister, Dorothy (Gene) Gere. She was preceded in death by her parents, sisters: Udell Kibbey and Darlene Schmeizer, brother Emery Paige "Bud" Green and daughter-in-law, Jill Beecher. Cremation has taken place and interment of Mary's ashes will be held at a later date. Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home of Jordan is in charge of the arrangements.

Shirley Howes
Shirley Mae Howes, of Miles City passed away on Monday, September 7, 2009 in Miles City at the age of 76.
Shirley was born in Dickey, North Dakota on May 28, 1933 to Charles and Emma (Nemechuk) Valenta. Shirley attended schools in Dickey and graduated from St. Alexius School of Nursing in 1954. In the spring of 1955, she moved to Miles City and married Harvie Howes on May 5. Shirley began her nursing career at Holy Rosary Hospital as a surgical nurse. After 20 years in surgery she decided to try another field of nursing and worked for the Dr. Rowens' in their private practice for several years. She later returned to Holy Rosary and continued in surgery until her retirement in 1996. She was very passionate about what she did and her 40 year dedication to nursing was felt by many in the community.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Harry Valenta. She is survived by her husband, Harvie Howes in Miles City, MT; a daughter, Debbie Engle and her husband J.D. and granddaughter Kacie all of Bozeman, a sister, Helen Hirsch of North Dakota and a brother Don of California; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Friday, September 11, 2009 at Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home in Miles City. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 12, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home in Miles City. Interment will follow in the Eastern Montana State Veteran's cemetery. Davida L. Honstain
Davida L. (Brown) Honstain, age 75, longtime resident of Miles City passed away on September 8, 2009 at the Holy Rosary Health Care in Miles City surrounded by her family.
Davida was born on September 17, 1933 in Bowman, ND the daughter of George and Edna (Smith) Brown. She attended schools in North Dakota and following graduation, Davida went to Nursing School. Davida was a dedicated nurse with a passion for her job. She was assigned to Sister Celine in the Anesthesia Dept in Miles City. She continued to work with Sister Celine after she married Patrick Honstain in May of 1956 until the birth of her son, Jay in 1959. She came back to work as a float and worked extra night shifts on the 5th floor. In November of 1960, their daughter Laura was born. Davida was off for 6 months and she was called back to become the head nurse on Floor 6 for a 'few weeks' was what they told her. Well those few weeks turned into 18 years! In 1979, she was offered the Head Nurse position in the Home Health Department and Davida was ready for the challenge and the change. In 1981, Davida was named Nurse of the Year, an accomplishment she was very proud of. She worked in this department for 9 years before moving to the Stress Unit to work a few shifts. The Stress Unit closed in 1992. She worked as a Staff Nurse on the combine Med/Surg Unit and then 6 years as the Environmental Staff Supervisor helping to get the former Hospital, Old Rest home & Garberson Clinic cleaned and ready for use.
After the death of her beloved husband Pat in June of 1998, she decided she was ready to retire. Davida enjoyed her years at Holy Rosary, given a lot of time and of herself to her coworkers, staff and patients. She always said the long hours were worth the effort and she had made many friends in Miles City while employed there. Davida was an active member of the Sacred Heart Church and the leader of the St. Gerad Circle.
Davida is survived by her son Jay (Nettie) Honstain of Billings, MT, her daughter Laura Honstain of Miles City, brother Dean Brown of Scranton, ND, sisters Nola Brown of Bowman, ND and Lee Finberg of Laurel, MT. She was preceded in death by her husband and her parents.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 9, 2009 from 8 am to 4pm at Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home with a prayer service at 6:00 pm at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Miles City. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, September 10, 2009 at 10:00 am at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Rite of Committal will follow at the Custer County cemetery next to her husband.

Steven J. Steffans
Steven James Steffans, age 51, of Colstrip, MT passed away of natural causes on Tuesday, September 1, 2009 at his home in Colstrip.
Steven was born on June 17, 1958 the son of Ed and Betty Steffans in Sidney, MT. He graduated from Laurel High School in 1976. Following graduation, he attended Billings Vo-Tech. In 1981, Steven went to work for Montana Power Company, now PPL Montana.
He was united in marriage to Judy Karen O'Neil on July 19, 1984 in Las Vegas, NV. To this union two children, Casey and Carrie were born. Together they resided in Colstrip.
Steven was currently still employed with PPL Montana and had been for 28 years. He was a lead man mechanic and his knowledge and work ethic made him a respected co-worker. Steven was a member of the IBEW, International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers and was also longtime member of the Moose Lodge in Colstrip.
Steven enjoyed hunting, fishing, snowmobiling, camping, darts and anything with a motor in it. Most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. His sense of humor will be especially missed.
He is survived by his wife of 25 years Judy of Colstrip, MT; his children Casey Steffans of Colstrip, MT and Carrie Steffans of Billings, MT; his parents, Ed and Betty Steffans of Laurel, MT; his grandson Ethan, whom he really enjoyed spending time with; his sisters, Cathy (Jack) of Laurel, MT and Jan (Dave) of Olympia, WA; and his brother Tim (Michelle) of Laurel, MT. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Should friends desire, in lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the United Way or to a charity of donors choice.

Florence Gress
Florence Palmina Gress, age 96, of Broadus, MT formerly of Ashland, passed away at the Powder River Manor in Broadus on September 6, 2009.
Florence was born on May 18, 1913 in Minneapolis, MN the daughter of August and Ingborg (Palm) Maak. As a child she lived in the Billings and Lodge Grass area. In November of 1940 she married Pete Gress they made their home in the Ashland area. Florence worked at St. Labre until her retirement. They then moved to Moccasin, MT and Pete passed away in 1980. Florence remained there for about a year before moving back to Ashland where her sons were.
Florence enjoyed reading and visiting with her sons, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She drove herself to the post office every day until she was 90 years old. Florence enjoyed her daily senior citizens meals at the Hitching Post Café where she loved the home cooking.
After her failing health, Florence moved to the Powder River Manor in Broadus in April of 2004.
Florence was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Pete Gress, her sister Elvy Woods and brother Carl Maak. She is survived by her sons, Kenneth (Julie) Gress of Ashland, MT, Clinton (Paula) Gress of Sundance, WY and Lee Gress of Ashland, MT. She is also survived by 8 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, September 11, 2009 at 11:00 am at the St. Labre Mission. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the funeral at the Mission. Interment will follow in the family lot of the Willow Crossing cemetery.

Beverly Derenburger
Beverly 'Bev' Derenburger, passed away at age 77 on Saturday, September 5, 2009.
Bev was born on June 12, 1932 to Emil and Mabel Gall at the Darcy Hospital in Miles City. During her childhood, Bev attended schools in Miles City and spent summers on her family's farm in Garfield County. She graduated from Custer County High School in 1951. After high school, Bev worked in the bookkeeping departments of the First National Bank and the First Security Bank. During this time, she met her future husband, John Derenburger. Bev married John on November 22, 1953, at the Trinity Lutheran Church. When John was drafted, Bev moved briefly to California. They returned to Miles City afterward, where John joined the police department and Bev made a home in which to raise their two daughters. John and Bev would have celebrated their 56th Anniversary this November.
Bev loved to cook and bake for her family and guests. In later years, she still liked to try new recipes as much as she enjoyed sharing the familiar ones with family and friends. At Christmases, Bev prepared many plates of cookies and candies that she gave to her friends and neighbors and to her daughters' school teachers. Birthdays in her home were made special by her beautiful cakes and the attention she gave to preparing whatever meal the birthday person wanted. Bev always made her home warm and welcoming for both family and friends, but holidays were especially nice because of her thoughtful gifts and decorations.
Bev enjoyed playing cards with her friends - she liked cribbage and pitch and thirteen, and she was particularly good at pinochle. She liked to read, and in earlier years could be found embroidering a gift for somebody or creating needlework art to be framed and enjoyed.
Beginning in 1978, Bev and her husband began traveling south for the winters. She made friends easily and became a welcomed member of her 'snowbird' community in Yuma, Arizona. Bev is survived by her husband, John Derenburger of Miles City, MT; daughter, Lonna and son-in-law Randy Roberts of Thompson Falls, MT; daughter, Julie and son-in-law Roger Renville of Helena, MT; grandsons: David Oberembt and Michael Renville; a sister, Doris Wells of Miles City, MT; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 10, 2009 from 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home in Miles City. Funeral services will be held on Friday, September 11, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home in Miles City. Interment will follow in the family lot in the Custer County cemetery.
