Leah Peterson
Leah Peterson, age 85, of Miles City passed away on Friday, October 15, 2004 at the Friendship Villa Care Center in Miles City.
Leah was born in Onaka, South Dakota on October 9, 1919, the daughter of John and Caroline (Walsh) Miller. She attended school in South Dakota for a few years before moving to Forsyth with her family where she then attended country school at Vananda. She attended and graduated from high school in Ingomar. Following her schooling, she went to work for Dr. Hines in Billings where she worked until she got married . Leah married Ernest Peterson in Billings, Montana on June 27, 1947. In 1948, they moved to Miles City where they had lived since.
Leah is survived by her husband, Ernest Peterson of Miles City, MT; and two sisters: Tillie Horner of Missoula, MT; and Violet Smith of Gaithersburg, MD. She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Amelia; and two brothers: Albert and Harold Miller.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 20, 2004 at Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home in Miles City. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, October 21, 2004 at 2:00 p.m. at Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home in Miles City. Interment will follow in the Eastern Montana State Veteran’s cemetery.
Should friends desire, memorials may be made to the First Lutheran Church, 512 S. Cale, Miles City, MT 59301.

Loretta Mae Meckle
Loretta Mae Meckle, age 72, of Miles City passed away at the Holy Rosary Health Center in Miles City on Saturday, June 26, 2004 surrounded by her family.
Loretta was born on May 22, 1932 in McClusky, North Dakota to Henry and Martha (Hoffer) Stein. She was raised in McClusky where she attended country schools. Loretta and Rueben “Slim” Meckle were married on July 2, 1950 at the family farm in McClusky, North Dakota. Following their marriage, Slim and Loretta moved to Havre, MT, Malta and then to Minot, North Dakota where they resided for 15 years. In 1973, they moved from Minot, North Dakota to Miles City, Montana where they have made their home since.
After Slims retirement, they because worldwide travelers, on the road visiting their family and friends. Loretta enjoyed baking, cooking, canning, gardening, and most of all enjoyed and loved her family especially her grandchildren. Loretta was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church of Miles City.
Loretta is survived by her husband of 53 years, Slim Meckle of Miles City, MT, her son Russ and his wife Tami of Miles City, MT, her daughter Julie and her husband Larry Coder of Miles City, a step-daughter Rose Duez of Las Vegas, NV, three brothers; Roger Stein of Napoleon, ND, Wesley Stein of McClusky, ND, Hienie Stein of McClusky, ND, 6 sisters; Shirley of Minot, ND, Darlene of Minot, ND, Pat of Minot, ND, Diane of Goodrich, ND, Marlene of Havey, ND, Virginia of McClusky, ND, 7 grandchildren: Russ, Teauna, Tina, Glen, Bernadette, Michelle and Nicole, thirteen great-grandchildren, 2 great great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Loretta was preceded in death by her parents; Henry & Martha, her daughter Bonnie in 1995 and her brother Clarence.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, June 27, 2004 from 1:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home in Miles City. Funeral services will be held on Monday, June 28, 2004 at 2:00 pm at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Miles City. Internment will follow at the Eastern Montana Veteran’s cemetery in Miles City.

Mary Strom
Mary Ann Strom, age 91, of Miles City, MT passed away on July 1, 2005 at the Holy Rosary Health Care Center in Miles City, MT.
Mary was born on October 10, 1914 to Anton and Agnes (Hanel) Hafla, Sr. in Cohagen, MT. She grew up on the family ranch with her nine brothers and sisters where she attended a rural school. When Mary was 17 years old, she went to Miles City to work at the Holy Rosary Hospital as a nurses-aide where she was there for many years before marring Curtis Strom in 1937. Mary returned to the hospital where she worked for several more years, making Miles City her home, where she had lived since.
Mary was a member of the Sacred Heart Church and the Milwaukee Woman’s Club.
Mary is survived by five siblings; John (Jean) Hafla, Agnes (Bob) Cremer, Rose Schantz, Joe (Marie) Hafla and Anton Hafla all of Miles City, MT. She was preceded in death by her parents Anton and Agnes, brothers Richard Hafla and Vincent Hafla, two sisters; Margie Davis and Ann Dyba, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 5, 2005 with a Vigil Service are 8:00 pm at the Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home in Miles City. A funeral mass will be held on Wednesday, July 6, 2005 at 10:00 a.m. at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Miles City, MT. Rite of Committal will follow in the Custer County cemetery in Miles City.
If desired, memorials may be made to the Miles City Hospice; 2600 Wilson, Miles City, MT 59301 or to the charity of ones choice. Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home of Miles City has been entrusted with the arrangements.

Kenneth John Azure Jr.
Kenneth John Azure, Jr., age 34, passed away December 31, 2004 in Wolf Point. He was born May 20, 1970 to Sandy and Kenny Azure.
He graduated from Wolf Point High School in 1988 and then went on to college at the University of Wisconsin-Superior on a baseball scholarship. He later attended United Tribes Technical College in Bismarck, ND and there received a degree in carpentry. He then returned to Wolf Point where he spent the remainder of his life.
Kenny was well known for his love of sports. He was recognized state wide as he received All-State honors in basketball. He was a member of the 1987 American Legion State Championship baseball team. The Yellow Jackets went on to take 3rd place at the regional tournament in Idaho that year. Kenny loved the outdoors and loved to hunt and fish. He was well known for his skills in carpentry and prided himself in the patio decks he would build.
He was preceded in death by his oldest brother Michael Laudato, his grandparents Ben and Margie Azure, and grandmother Frances Hitchcock. He is survived by his parents, Ken and Sandy Azure of Wolf Point, two sisters, Azurene and Mandy Azure of Phoenix, AZ, a brother Matthew Azure and fiancé’ Rainy Gourneau of Poplar, his children, Brooklyn of Billings, Michael of Ft. Yates, ND, Christopher and Michael of Brockton, Chiefy and Avery of Poplar, and McKenzie of Wolf Point, one nephew, Kelby Azure of Phoenix, AZ, and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 5, 2005 from 1 to 8 pm at Clayton Stevenson Memorial Chapel. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, January 6, 2005 at 1 pm at Blue Sky Ministries in Wolf Point. Interment will be in Greenwood cemetery. Connie Allen
Funeral services for Connie Allen, age 97 of Wright, will be 10:00A.M., Tuesday, August 16, 2005 at the Wright Baptist Church with Pastor Clay Alexander officiating. Visitation will be held Monday, August 15, from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Stevenson-Wilson Funeral Home. Interment will be at the Edgemont cemetery in Edgemont, South Dakota with full military honors.
Connie died Friday, August 12, 2005 due to injuries sustained in the tornado that went through Wright.
Connie Lee Allen was born January 7, 1908 the son of Miles and Bertha (Benedict) Allen at Plattsmouth, Nebraska. He was a high school graduate and continued his self-education through his life. Connie worked as a newspaper boy, cowboy, sheep farmer and a die maker before starting his career as a baker. He worked in various bakeries in the Midwest including: Moorcroft, Chadron, Alliance, Cheyenne, Denver, Hastings and Edgemont, South Dakota. He purchased the Bakery in Edgemont in1935 and had it until he enlisted in the Navy. Following Pearl Harbor, Connie volunteered for the Navy in December of 1941, finally enlisting by the end of 1942. He shipped out of San Francisco, California, on a troopship and later was detailed to the USS Rixey, a troop, supply carrier and medical evacuation ship. He was the ship’s food and bakery supply officer, and gunner’s mate through the entire Pacific Theatre, major invasions and battles. After WWII Connie returned stateside and began searching for a bakery to purchase. After considering locations in Bucks County, Pennsylvania, Mullin, Nebraska, Casper and Cheyenne he chose Gillette. Later he married Betty Young on March 16, 1946 at Hardin, Montana. Connie and Betty had four children Donald, Nancy, Diana and Bonnie. Together Connie and Betty owned and operated the Gillette Bakery until June of 1969. At that time they moved to Malta, Montana where they owned the Malta Bakery until retirement. Betty died in 1978 in Malta. Connie married Anna Pearl Beins in Plattsmouth, Nebraska she preceded him in death. Connie later married Billie Norfolk and she also preceded him in death.
Connie was proud of his life membership of the Shrine’s and his 65 plus year membership of the Masonic Brotherhood. He was also a member of the Gillette Chamber of Commerce, the Gillette Rotary Club and was a past councilman for the City of Gillette.
One of Connie’s favorite sayings was “You can never have too many friends, but one enemy is too many.”
“Grandpa” Connie is survived by his five children: Don (Marti) Allen of Gillette, Nancy (Raymond) McIntosh of Wright, Diana (Don) Simanton of Wright, Bonnie Heiman of Gillette; and Patsy Horner of Valentine, Nebraska; 15 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, 4 great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Jean Schaefer of Plattsmouth, Nebraska and his many friends of long and short acquaintance. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers; one sister; an infant daughter Marcia Allen and an infant grandson Dennis Allen.

Leona "Lee" Harn
Leona "Lee" Margaret Harn, age 72, of Miles City passed away on Saturday, August 7, 2004 at her home in Miles City.
Lee was born on September 12, 1931 to Michael and Mary Josiphin (Sayers) Patneaude in Poplar, MT. Lee was a loving and dedicated wife, mother, sister, auntie, gramma and friend. She loved spending time with her family and friends.
Lee worked as a counselor for the IDEA office for 29 years. In those years she helped 500 individuals and families complete their college education specifically she assisted 100 nurses complete their nursing education at Miles Community College. In her job as a counselor she developed life long friendships with her students and families.
Lee is survived by her husband Howard of 53 years of Miles City, her daughter Susan, her sister Joanne Souza and husband Albert, a special nephew Patrick and wife Jennifer Harn, her adopted children Ernie bighorn and wife Mary, Kathy Larson and son Shawn, her in-laws Zeke and Lorraine Zeitner, Joan and Larry Harn and numerous nieces, nephews, grandchildren and friends. She is preceded in death by her son Daniel Harn, her parents Michael and Mary Patneaude, brothers Burton and Duane Patneaude and Ralph and Selma Harn.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 10 until 6:00 pm at Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home in Miles City. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, August 11, 2004 at 10:00 at the Sacred Heart Church in Miles City. To send condolences to the family please visit www.stevensonandsons.com.

Janace Faye Milmine
Janace Faye Milmine, age 49 of Hysham formerly of Park City, went to be with the Lord with her family by her side, on January 01, 2005 in Billings.
Janace was born on March 12, 1955 in Roseburg, OR, the daughter of William and Faye (Myers) Bartz. Her family made their home in Oregon until Jan was 10, when they moved to Roundup and later Melstone. Janace attended both grade school and high school in Melstone. Following her graduation, Jan married Max Fisk. To this union her children were born, William, Waylon and Carmella. Jan and the children moved to Billings and later to Park City where they made their home for several years. On June 6, 1998 she was united in marriage to Lee Milmine at Cody, WY. Together, they lived in Park City until moving to Hysham where she resided until the time of her death.
Janace enjoyed scrap booking, photography, and animals including her pet bobcats, horses, ducks, pigs and all sorts of other animals. She especially loved and enjoyed her family and grandchildren.
Jan is survived by her husband Lee of Hysham, one daughter Carmella Tyrrell and her husband Jay of Billings and their children, Austin, Connor, and in April, Faythe Nicole; two sons William and Waylon Fisk both of Billings, three step children Cindy Oblender and her husband Tim of Pompeys Pillar, Ken Milmine and his wife Christy of Glen Rock, WY, and Clint Milmine and his wife Lisa of Albuquerque, NM.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother Gary Eugene Bartz.
Funeral services will be on Tuesday, January 4, 2005 at 4:00 PM in the Faith Chapel in Billings. There will also be a service on Wednesday, January 5, 2005 at 1:00 PM in the Hysham Presbyterian Church in Hysham. Visitation will be from 1:00 PM until the time of the service on Tuesday in the Faith Chapel in Billings. Burial will be in the family lot of the Hysham Vale cemetery in Hysham.
Memorials can be sent to the St. Jude Children’s Hospital.

Isabel Williams
Isabel Elsie Powell Williams, age 95 of Broadus, MT, passed away May 13, 2005 at the Powder River Manor in Broadus, MT.
Isabel was born September 15, 1909, in Chamberlain SD, the oldest daughter of Vernon L. and Katie Marenda Powell. She attended elementary school at Powell near Biddle and Ranch Creek schools. Isabel attended high school in Powder River County and Yakima Washington and graduated in 1927. She went to teaching college at Eastern Montana College. Her first teaching job was at Brodston School in 1928. She taught at 6 to 7 rural schools in Powder River County from 1928 to 1960.
On February 17, 1929, she married Thomas G. Williams and they moved to Illinois and Indiana area where the first two of their four children were born. In November of 1932, they returned to Powder River County where they lived the remainder of their lives. In the fall of 1962, she started the first private kindergarten program in Broadus. She worked at the county library from 1966 to 1979, when she retired. Upon retirement she traveled with her husband.
She was an active member of the Powder River Congregational Church where she taught Sunday school for many years. She was a Girl Scout leader and volunteered at the museum and took part in many activities at the senior center. As a fifty plus member of the Order of Eastern Star, she was a Past Worthy Matron and was on the board for the Rainbow Girls.
Isabel is survived by four children; Thomas L. Williams (Johnie E.) of Broadus, MT., E. Loyce Cossitt of Broadus, Loren A. Williams of San Antonio, TX, Kenneth L. Williams(Catherine) of Derwood, MD; two sisters Gladys Powell Frank (Harold), and Arletha Powell Drexel; three sister-in-laws; Retta Powell, Marie Powell, and Betty Williams Miller (Sam) thirteen grandchildren; Pamela F. Williams Boyd (Greg), Patricia A. Williams Reeves (Alan), Rosemary Williams Shubert (Kenneth), Jacob T. Williams, John C. Williams (Carolyn), J. Vernon Cossitt (Laura), Frank E. Cossitt (Darla), Katie E. Cossitt Nalivka (Lyle), Daniel J. Cossitt (Marty) Terri Williams King (Tom), Amy Williams Downing (Chris), Joan N. Williams Drew (Rod), Anne M. Williams, twenty eight great grandchildren: Josh Boyd, Jennifer Boyd Garwick, Julie Boyd Maxey, William Reeves, Bradley Reeves, Emily Reeves Howard, Tiffany Shubert, Alexander Shubert, Alishia Shubert, Dustina Williams, Johnathan Williams, Patrick Williams, Mike Cossitt, Matt Cossitt, Lori Cossitt, Jeremy Cossitt, Scott Cossitt, Stefan Cossitt, Sam Cossitt, Josh Cossitt, Jamie Cossitt, J.P. Nalivka, Tosha Nalivka, Mariah Cossitt, Travis Williams, Tia Westover, Justin Downing, Ashley Downing, seven great great grandchildren: Gabrielle Garwick, Mark Reeves, Kami Reeves, Caterina Howard, Caydon Howard, Keegan Shubert, & Brandon Cossitt and numerous nieces, newphews, cousins, and a host of friends.
Isabel is preceded in death by her husband Thomas G Williams, parents Vernon L. and Katie Marenda Powell; Brothers Elwin Powell, Leslie Powell (Inez), Charlie Powell, Lawrence Powell, in-laws Mabel Williams Bradshaw (Dutch), Nettie Belle Piper (Marion), John Williams (Nell), Bud Drexel, daughter-in-law Jeanie Hughes Williams and son-in-law James C. Cossitt.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 19, 2005 at Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home in Broadus from 1 to 6pm. Funeral services will be held on Friday, May 20, 2005 at 2:00 p.m. at Powder River Congregational Church. Interment will follow at the Valley View cemetery in Broadus.
Memorials may be made to the Henry A Malley Memorial Library or the Powder River Manor.

Elizabeth "Betty" Bertha Fuller
Elizabeth “Betty” Bertha Fuller, age 89, of Miles City passed away on Monday, March 13, 2006 at her home in Miles City.
Betty was born on October 3, 1916, the daughter of Paul and Mary Frances (Fuchs) Fuerstenau. She was born on the family homestead at Forest Grove, outside of Lewistown; she attended school in Forest Grove and graduated from Fergus County High School in Lewistown. Betty married Theodore L. Fuller on May 31, 1936 in Lewistown. Following their marriage, they moved around a lot as Ted was a powder man with the mines. They homesteaded on the Greenfield Bench out of Great Falls where they farmed and raised dairy cows for twenty years. They then moved to Trout Creek, near Thompson Falls where they ran a general store. In 1962, they moved to Whitefish then onto Miles City in 1977. While in Miles City, Betty worked at the Red Rock as the head maid, and then at Woods n’ Goods until she was 82 years old and thought it may be time to retire. She has remained in Miles City ever since.
The First United Methodist Church was a big part of Betty’s life and she was very active in her church circle and other church activities. She was an avid Atlanta Braves fan, and enjoyed walking and loved kitties, but most of all she loved spending time with her family and grandchildren.
Betty is survived by her son, Jim Fuller and his wife Diana of Lewistown, MT; five daughters: Karen Boomer of Laurel, MD; Maxine Breidenbach ofMiles City, MT; Janice Bowen and her husband Don of Phillipsburg, MT; Lucy McShane of Miles City, MT; and Eileen Fuller of Elerbe, NC; three sisters: Martha Grace of California; Pauline Martin and her husband Tom of Worden, MT; and Evelyn Hughes of Washington; 19 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Theodore in 1983, a daughter Linda Henry in 1998, a granddaughter, Andrea Bowen, two brothers: Fred and Bob, and two sisters: Mary and Esther.
Visitation will be held onSunday, March 19, 2006 at Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held on Monday, March 20, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Miles City. Interment will follow in the Custer County cemetery in Miles City.
Should friends desire, memorials may be made to the University of Montana or to the First United Methodist Church.

Palma Hobbs
Palma M. Hobbs, age 87, passed away Tuesday, March 21, 2006 with family in Nashville, Tennessee.
Mrs. Hobbs was born on August 3, 1918, the daughter of Ole and Johanna Seteren on the family ranch located on Cabin Creek in Prairie County. On April 15, 1936 she married Richard Hobbs in Forsyth, Montana. Mrs. Hobbs was the loving wife of Mr. Hobbs for 65 years.
In addition to being a homemaker, Mrs. Hobbs enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing cards with friends taking care of her family’s ranch and her family.
Mrs. Hobbs was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, Obert, John, and Norris and a grandson, Kevin Swenumson.
Survivors include her two daughters: Carol Kirkpatrick and husband Lynn of Old Hickory, Tennessee and Verna Sluder and husband Ron of Spring Hill, Tennessee; a beloved sister, Mrs. Olga Jones of Miles City, MT; 6 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren and 3 great, great grandchildren.
Mrs. Hobbs also leaves behind a very special nephew and family, Richard and Sue Hobbs and son Michael of Miles City, Mt., as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives and close friends.
She will be greatly missed.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 28, 2006 with family receiving friends from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. at Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home in Miles City. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, March 29, 2006 at 1:00 p.m. at Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home in Miles City. Interment will follow in the family lot in the Custer County cemetery in Miles City.

Gertrude Z. Martin
Gertrude Z. Martin, age 99 of Miles City, formerly of Helena, Montana, passed away on Tuesday, April 11, 2006 at the Holy Rosary Extended Care in Miles City.
Gertrude was born on November 2, 1906, the daughter of Brooks and Mary Elizabeth (Dawson) Carter in Salem, Arkansas. She moved with her family at the age of eight to just outside of Sturgis, South Dakota where she attended schools and graduated from Sturgis High School in 1928. Gertrude attended business college in Rapid City and then began working for MDU in Sturgis. On March 21, 1935 she was united in marriage to Sidney Martin. In 1942, they moved to California where Gertrude worked as a bookkeeper for the Defense Department during World War II. After the war ended, they moved back to South Dakota and in 1947 they moved to Helena, Montana and Gertrude started her career with the Montana Department of Fish and Game as an accountant. After twenty years, she retired and her and Sidney moved to Miles City to be closer to family and she has remained there ever since.
Gertrude enjoyed hunting and fishing with her family and even showed up the men from time to time with her trophy game. She was also an avid bowler and a member of the Eastern Star.
Gertrude is survived by her son, Neil Martin and his wife Joellen of Miles City, MT, two grandchildren; Terri (Don) Stewart of Miles City, MT and Brett Martin of Burbank, CA, four grandchildren; Kara, Shea, Rafe, and Hannah, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband in July of 1999, three sisters and one brother.
Memorial services will be held on Monday, April 17, 2006 at 7:00 p.m. at the Emmanuel Episcopal Church in Miles City. Interment will be held at a later date.
Should friends desire, memorials may be made to the charity of ones choice.
