Gloria Waples
Gloria Dee Waples, age 70, of Billings, Montana passed away on Wednesday, December 8, 2004 at her home.
Miss Waples was born on August 22, 1934 in Forsyth, Montana, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Waples.
Gloria enjoyed crafting and spending time with her nieces and nephews
Gloria is survived by four brothers: Roy of Colstrip, MT, Donald of Rosebud Creek, MT, Burnett of Clinton, MT and Gary of Ashland, MT; one sister: Joan Fabrizius of Hardin, MT; and a lot of nieces and nephews that loved her. She was preceded in death by her mother, father and sister.

Kenneth Stone
Kenneth Stone passed away on April 13, 2006, at Holy Rosary Hospital after a long illness.

Ken was born on November 9, 1956 to James and Betty (Broce) Stone in Miles City, Montana. From 1979-1981, Ken worked for Tubescope Inc. in Evanston, Wyoming. In 1981, he moved back to Miles City and worked for Conlin’s and Darryl Moore until moving to Glasgow in 1990. In 2003, he moved back to Miles City to be closer to family and friends. Kenny enjoyed playing pool, fishing and hunting.

Survivors include his life partner of 25 years Toni Robinson of the family home, son Kenneth James Ulrich of Eureka, CA, Daughters, Rami Robinson of Billings, MT, Kendra Robinson of Glasgow, MT and Kadee Robinson and a son Vincent Robinson of Miles City. He is also survived by one granddaughter, his “Little Sweetie” Chassidy Longtree-Robinson of Glasgow, MT and his parents James and Betty Stone of La Junta, CO, his sisters, Donna (Mark) Sindelar of Moses Lake, WA, Linda Benasky of Helena, MT, Sandy (Bert) Prichard of Boisser, LA, Sheri (Wade) Howard of Lamar, CO, his uncles Robert Stone of San Antonio, TX, Walter Stone of Miles City, MT, and a great uncle John Rothschiller of Miles City, MT and numerous cousins. He was preceded in death by his uncle, John Stone.

Visitation will be held on Friday, April 14, 2006 from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home in Miles City. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 15, 2006 at 10:00 a.m. at Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home in Miles City. Interment will be held at a later date in the Custer County cemetery in Miles City.

Should friends desire, memorials may be made to the charity of ones choice.

Kenneth Nolan Fandrich
Kenneth Nolan Fandrich passed away peacefully September 18, 2004 at Billings Deaconess Hospital after an extended illness. Nolan was born to Alexander and Edith (Stewart) Fandrich in Spickard, MO, on September 4, 1925. His family moved to the Miles City area where they homesteaded on North Sunday Creek. The family later moved into Miles City where he completed his education.
Nolan served in the Army Medical Corp on a hospital ship during WWII. Upon discharge from the Army, he began working in Colstrip in 1946. He married Clarice “Dolly” Preller on December 22, 1946. He worked at many jobs in Colstrip. Nolan began as a member of the powder crew in the mine. Nolan worked providing security and maintenance for the mine and town of Colstrip. He moved into the job of Town Manager during Colstrip’s growth and development era. He enjoyed a move back to the mining side of the operation as conveyer supervisor until 1990. He retired after forty-five years of service. He continued to raise a few cattle and horses long after his “official” retirement. Cold air worsened his breathing difficulties, so he eventually sold all his livestock. Nolan lived in Colstrip fifty-nine years.
Nolan dedicated his life to serving the needs of his family and the people of Colstrip. He served on numerous boards including Rosebud County Planning Board, Southeastern Montana Rural Health Initiative Board, Colstrip Medical Advisory Board, and First Interstate Bank Board. He helped organize the initial ambulance service, then volunteered as an EMT. He was a charter member of the volunteer fire department. In addition to these civic duties, Nolan provided leadership and experience necessary in operating town services.
A man of quiet faith and high standards, he encouraged others to do and be their best. Nolan loved the outdoors. He hunted, fished, explored, and swapped stories with family and friends. He enjoyed travel, exploration and study of historical sites and in the last few years, crossword puzzles. He used his carpenter skills to build toys for his grandchildren; he made and refinished fine furniture.
Nolan is survived by his wife, Dolly, of Colstrip, his daughters Peg Fandrich of Cheyenne, WY, Patricia Fandrich of Butte and Jane Gardner and husband Roger of Livingston, three brothers: Gilbert Fandrich and his wife Carol, of Three Forks, Norval Fandrich and his wife Joan, of Belgrade and Norman Fandrich and his wife Betty, of Miles City; a sister, Armina Joos, of Belgrade. Nolan is also survived by seven grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and two daughters: an infant and Kay Douglas.
Family will receive friends on Tuesday, September 21, 2004 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at the United Community Church in Colstrip. A viewing and Prayer Service will follow at 7:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, September 22, 2004 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church in Colstrip. Interment will follow at 3:00 p.m. at the Forsyth cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the United Community Church, Colstrip, MT 59323, Friends of the Library, P.O. Box 1947, Colstrip, MT 59323, or the charity of one’s choice.

Pandora Lee Millerbernd
Pandora Lee Millerbernd, age 44, of Miles City, MT passed away on Friday, October 28, 2005 at her home near Miles City.

Pandora was born in Nampa, Idaho on October 29, 1960, the daughter of Theodore and Ruth (Daniel) Acree. She was raised and attended schools in Nampa. Following her schooling, she became a homemaker, raising her four children. While in Idaho, Pandora volunteered her time for Con-Agra, by picking leftover vegetables in the fields and giving them to the poor until 1989. She later moved to South Pass City, Wyoming then moved to Belgrade, Montana. Pandora married James Millerbernd on August 7, 1992. They lived in Belgrade until September of 1995 before moving to Miles City where they made their home since.

Pandora loved to hunt, fish, go camping and was an accomplished artist.

Pandora is survived by her husband, James Millerbernd of Miles City, MT; three daughters: Serena Tilley of Manhatten, MT; Michelle Maes of Baker, MT; Golda Richardson of Rosebud, MT; her mother, Ruth Widmark of Yuma, AZ; her father, Theodore Acree of Caldwell, ID; a brother, John Acree of Boise, ID; a sister, Dori Gillmore of Canby, Oregon, and four grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her son, Christopher Maes Jr. in 2003.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, November 1, 2005 at Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home in Miles City. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, November 2, 2005 at 10:00 a.m. at Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home in Miles City. Interment will follow in the family lot in the Custer County cemetery.

Mary Filiault
Mary Elizabeth (Pelletier) Filiault, age 37, of Miles City passed away on Tuesday, August 3, 2004 at St. Vincent Hospital in Billings.

Mary was born on September 10, 1966 in Miles City, Montana, the daughter of Earle and Ella Mae (Parker) Pelletier. She was raised and attended schools in Miles City and graduated from Sacred Heart School in 1984. Following graduation, she attended Miles Community College. She then moved to Boston, Massachusetts where she worked as a nanny for three years. She then moved to Bridgewater, Vermont where she managed Junction Country Store. While in Bridgewater, Mary met Craig Filiault. They moved to Miles City in 1991 and were married on June 22, 1996. Mary worked a Holy Rosary Hospital in the cafeteria for 15 years.

Mary loved her dogs, spending time with her friends and coworkers, and fishing (as long as she didn’t have to bait her own hook.) "Auntie M" loved all kids, especially her nieces and nephews. She was a member of the Caledonians for five years.

Mary is survived by her husband, Craig Filiault of Miles City, MT; her parents, Earle "Pinky" and Ella Mae Pelletier of Miles City, MT; four brothers: Michael Pelletier of Las Vegas, NV; Frank Pelletier of Tallahassee, FL; Jimmy Pelletier and his wife Tami of Belgrade, MT; and John Pelletier and his wife Shelly of Spearfish, SD; four sisters: Lisa Wagner and her husband Bob of Miles City, MT; Amy Pontius and her husband Rob of Colstrip, MT; Jenifer Zeilstra and her husband Travis of Billings, MT; Sara Kellum and her husband Terry of Seattle, WA; two step sons: Billy and Jesse Filiault of Vermont; two grandchildren: Emily and Brandon Filiault; and numerous special nieces and nephews; her mother-in-law, Betsy Wilkins of Killington, VT. She was preceded in death by her grandparents: Guy & Elizabeth Parker and Frank & Emma Pelletier.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, in the chapel of Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home in Miles City. A Vigil service will be held on Sunday, August 8, 2004 at 6:00 p.m. in the chapel of Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home in Miles City. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, August 9, 2004 at 10:00 a.m. at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Miles City. Interment will follow in the Custer County cemetery.
Should friends desire, memorials may be made to the Eastern Montana Cancer Center or to Holy Rosary Hospice.

Chris Hein
Chris C. Hein, age 93, of Forsyth passed away on July 2, 2005 at the Rosebud Health Care Center in Forsyth.
He was born on the family homestead north of Forsyth on April 20, 1912 the son of Christian and Augusta (Kopplin) Hein.
Chris was raised on the homestead and educated in the Mud Springs School. Following his education Chris farmed west of Forsyth until purchasing his ranch on Sweeny Creek. He ranched until selling his place and moving to Missoula. Chris later moved and worked in various areas of the United States until returning to Forsyth where he resided until the time of his death. While in Forsyth, Chris loved working in his garden, growing strawberries, tomatoes and garlic. He shared his bounty with his good friends, Waneeta and Virgil and they shared their love with him.
Chris is survived by his daughter, Janice Nye and son-in-law, Bud of Aurora, CO. Also his nephews, Butch Hein and Edward Hein of Forsyth; one sister Mary Hicks of Idaho; two brothers Gus Hein of Bozeman and Gene Hein of Kalispell.
He is preceded in death by his Patricia (Hein) Hunt; one brother Walt Hein, two sisters Ann and Edna.

Mildred Nunn
Mildred Caroline Nunn, age 91, of Miles City passed away on Friday, July 15, 2005, at the Holy Rosary Extended Care in Miles City.

Mildred was born near New England, North Dakota, on December 10, 1913, the daughter of Otto and Ida (Hegge) Johnson. She attended various country schools in Slope County. After her family moved to the ranch on the Little Missouri, Mildred graduated from Sentinel Butte High School in 1931. Following graduation, Mildred taught at the Timm School for several years. She married Leighton Nunn on July 7, 1934, in Wibaux, Montana. They ranched and farmed in the Little Missouri area until 1945, when they moved to Medora, North Dakota, where they ran a grocery store. In 1949 they moved to Miles City, Montana, where Leighton worked at Ft. Keogh. Mildred went to work for Mountain Bell Telephone Company from which she retired in 1977.

Mildred loved people and her garden with its beautiful flowers, but most of all she enjoyed spending time with her family. She was a member of the Range Riders Reps, Mountain Bell Pioneers, Homemakers Club and was a Sunday school teacher.

Mildred is survived by her four children: Larry Nunn and his wife Jean of Conway, AR; Gene Nunn and his wife Donna of Cowley, WY; Irmalyn Fowle and her husband Rik of West Lebanon, NH; and Joan Hicks and her husband Bill of Malta, MT; nine grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Leighton, her brother Karnes Johnson, one grandson and one great grandson.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 19, 2005, at Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home in Miles City. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, July 20, 2005, at 11:00 a.m. at Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home in Miles City. Interment will follow in the family lot of the Custer County cemetery in Miles City.

Vonnie Colgrove
Vonnie Colgrove (1919-2005) born to Miles City architect, Casper Strom and his wife, Clara, who named her Verona T. Strom, died peacefully in her sleep the morning of May 6. Her passing gave her refuge from the painful ravages of Parkinsons and osteoporosis.

Vonnie was born in Bejou, Minnesota, on September 3rd, 1919, moving with her parents and siblings to Miles City in the late l920's where Casper designed and built over 300 buildings and homes, including the Stevenson Funeral Home in Miles City where she now temporarily resides. Vonnie attended Custer County High School, Class of 1936, and while she had no formal education, she was well-known to Montana lawyers as Roland V. (Laddie) Colgrove's wife and paralegal, specializing in medical legal research. Laddie and Vonnie spent many late nights researching and preparing for jury trials. They also traveled to many legal seminars together as Laddie was on the Board of Directors of the American Trial Lawyers Association and one of the founding members and past president of the Montana Trial Lawyers.

After their marriage in 1952, they were inseparable, trying personal injury cases together, dancing, cooking, partying and taking yearly extended trips to Mexico. They traveled around the world, including several ocean cruises.

After Laddie retired from the practice of law in 1979, Laddie and Vonnie spent the majority of their time in Acapulco, Mexico. Then in 1984 they build a home on the beach in Indian Rocks Beach, Florida where they resided until returning to Miles City in 1992. Laddie passed away three years later.

Before her marriage to Laddie Colgrove, Vonnie was married to Theodore (Ted) Hanson. To that marriage two children were born, a son, Terry J. Hanson (wife Deborah) of Miles City and a daughter, Cheryl L. (Sheri) Parker (husband Rick) of Miles City.

Vonnie was preceded in death by her brothers Arley and Sylvester (Slivers) Strom. She is survived by her sister Jeannie Labree (husband Frank) of Ingomar, and their daughters Julie, Lori, Lisa, Frankye Sue, and Jodi. Vonnie is also survived by her two children Terry and Sheri, her sister-in-law Ruby Strom, and her three children, LeeAnna Babcock (husband Mike), Connie Heiman (husband Tom), and John Strom, her grandsons Leo V. Gruba (wife Cheryl) and their two sons Leo R. and Robert of Gulfport, Mississippi, James Gruba (wife Beth) of Billings, MT, and their daughter Amber of Gillette, WY; and last but not least, her dog, Dusty.

Vonnie also leaves behind her three care-givers Shari Robinson, Phyllis Riley, and Michelle Maes. With their loyalty and care, Vonnie was able to remain in her home until the end.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 10, 2005 with the family to receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at the Chapel of Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home in Miles City. Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, May 11, 2005 at 2:00 pm at the Chapel of Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home in Miles City. Interment will follow at the Eastern Montana Veterans cemetery in Miles City.
Memorials may be made to the charity of ones choice.

Malinda M Zochert
Malinda M. Zochert, age 94, of Miles City, formerly a longtime resident of Bloomington, MN, passed away on Wednesday, August 17, 2005 at the Friendship Villa in Miles City, MT.
Malinda was born to John and Mary (Kortun) Grill on March 27, 1911 in Ree Heights, SD. At a young age the family moved to Kent, MN where she attended a rural schools while living on the farm. After the 8th grade, Malinda moved to Morris, Minnesota where she completed last years of schooling. After graduating she worked as a house keeper in Sisseton, SD for several years.
In 1933, she met Ewald Zochert of Wheaton, Minnesota. The two were joined in Holy Matrimony in April of 1934. They moved to Bloomington, Minnesota in 1935. The couple would be blessed with two children Mary Ann in 1936 and Marvin in 1938. The family made Bloomington their home until 1964 when Malinda sold the house and worked as a live in house keeper for several families. At the age of 73, she "hung" up her dust cloth and mop "retired" and moved into an apartment in Hopkins, Minnesota.
The last 18 years of her life her daughter became her official taxi driver. Mary Ann would take Malinda on trips to Iowa and Minnesota to see family and friends. At the age of 90, she and Mary Ann took the train to Louisiana to visit her son Marvin. When Mary Ann moved to Miles City, Malinda was determined to move there also. So determined that she wrote in a letter that if Mary did not come and get her, she was going to tie her wheel chair to a train and come along.
Malinda was an excellent seamstress, she enjoyed cooking, making rugs and quilts and crossword puzzles. She was an avid reader, enjoyed the landscape and watching the cattle in the fields.
Malinda is survived by her children Mary Ann (Rev. Tom) Barthelmeh of Miles City, MT and Marvin L. (Wanita) Zochert of Pineville, LA. Eight grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews. Malinda was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.
Visitation will be held on Friday, August 19, 2005 from 5:00pm to 8:00pm at Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home in Miles City. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 20, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. at Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home in Miles City. Interment will follow in the Custer County cemetery in Miles City.
Memorials may be made to the Bloomington Volunteer Fire Department; 10 West 95th Street, Bloomington, MN 55420 or to the charity of ones choice. Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home of Miles City has been entrusted with the arrangements.

Ann Stewart
Ann Stewart, 79, of Miles City, Montana passed away on November 20, 2004, at her home, after a long illness.
Ann was born in Eger, Czechoslovakia, the daughter of Franz and Anna Hurt Ott on January 17, 1926. She grew up and attended school in Czechoslovakia and Germany. She met her husband, Ray Stewart, while he was serving in the U.S. Army in Germany as the Chaplain driver during World War II. She became a war-bride and came to the USA in December 1948. Ann and Ray settled in Ekalaka, Montana and after a short period of time, moved to Miles City. She became a U.S. Citizen in 1950.
Ann served the Miles City Community for 49 years working at the Met Café and the 600 Café. She loved her job and her customers. Ann served them with a smile and always with a great sense of humor. Ann enjoyed traveling with her family and dogs. She was a wonderful mother, loving grandmother, best friend and devoted wife. She was the “Wind beneath our Wings”. Ann was a member of the Sacred Heart Parish.
Ann is survived by her husband, Ray Stewart, of Miles City, Montana; her children, Ray Stewart Jr. of White Fish, Montana; Diana Poirier of Tuftonboro, New Hampshire; and Dennis Stewart of Great Falls, Montana. Grandchildren, Jason Poirier, Atlanta, Georgia; Derek Poirier, San Diego, California; and Leslie Stewart of Aberdeen, South Dakota.
Visitation will be held on Friday, December 3, 2004 at Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home in Miles City with a Vigil service at 6:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, December 4, 2004 at 10:00 a.m. at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Miles City. Rite of Committal will follow in the Calvary cemetery in Miles City.
If desired, memorials may be made to the charity of ones choice.

Pat Ellinghouse
Michael Patrick “Pat” Ellinghouse, age 44, of Miles City passed away at his home on Sunday, November 6, 2005 surrounded by his loving family, after a courageous battle with cancer.

Pat was born in Seattle, Washington on September 16, 1961, the son of George and Jane (Goggins) Ellinghouse. When Pat was a toddler, he moved with his family to Billings where Pat attended schools and graduated from Billings Central High School. Pat married Laurie Duncan on December 12, 1980 at St. Thomas Catholic Church in Billings. Pat and Laurie were blessed with their first child, Carolyn in 1982. Pat worked at Turf-Aid Distributing as a salesman. In 1984, the family was blessed with their second child, Jennifer and then their third child, Michael in 1986. The family moved to Arizona in 1988 where Pat attended Yavapai College, earning an Associate of Arts Degree in gunsmithing. The family moved back to Billings in 1990 where Pat opened MECO Custom Firearms which he operated until they moved to Miles City in 1999. Pat then worked as the sales manager at Western Powders. Pat was blessed with his granddaughter, Mackenzie Rose Boschee in June of 2002.

Pat was a member of the Sacred Heart Church, Knights of Columbus, and the High Plains Car Club. Pat enjoyed watching his children’s school activities. He had a true love for restoring classic cars. Pat loved spending time with his family and friends, especially his beloved granddaughter, Mackenzie Rose. He also enjoyed spending time with Laurie’s grandparents, Bud and Helen Rose.

Pat is survived by his wife, Laurie of Miles City, MT; his children: Carolyn Ellinghouse of Bozeman, MT; Jennifer (Kevin) Boschee of Billings, MT; and Michael Ellinghouse of Billings, MT; his parents, George and Jane Ellinghouse of Billings, MT; a sister, Traci (Mike) Humphrey of Billings, MT; two brothers: Bing (Amber) Ellinghouse of Billings, MT; and Tim (Gina) Ellinghouse of Boise, ID; his mother and father-in-law, Bill and Jan Soelter of Billings, MT; a sister-in-law, Lyn (Rick) Caton of Dallas, TX; a special granddaughter, Mackenzie Rose Boschee of Billings, MT; and his nieces and nephews: Skott, Adam, Elissa, Kaile and Emma Ellinghouse.

A Vigil service will be held on Tuesday, November 8, 2005 at 6:00 p.m. at Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home in Miles City. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, November 9, 2005 at 10:00 a.m. at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Miles City. A Memorial Mass will be held on Thursday, November 10, 2005 at 1:00 p.m. at the Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Billings. Interment will follow in the Holy Cross cemetery in Billings.
Should friends desire, a college fund has been set up for Pat’s children at Stockman Bank, 700 Main, Miles City, MT 59301.
