Sonnet for My Son, for Mason
I would dream of us, a father and son.
I dreamed of years from now, us looking back,
How you took your first steps when you were one,
Your first word followed with questions kids ask.
Sometimes in dreams I rocked you to sleep,
Your baby breath on my neck felt real.
You, the promise I would forever keep,
Wrapped in my arms, made my world stand still.
Every time I wake now, I fall apart.
Today I think I died a little bit,
Because when I woke up I could not start.
I had to dig myself out of this pit.
Everyday I remind myself to breathe, to live.
Everyday, always waiting for my world to give.
