Mark Huntsalong
Mark Huntsalong, age 47, of Lame Deer formerly of Mandaree, ND passed away on Thursday, March 9, 2006, at his home in Lame Deer.
Mark was born the son of Vincent and Margie (Fredricks) Huntsalong on August 24, 1958, in Minot, ND. He grew up in Mandaree, ND where he received his education. Following his gradation, Mark worked as a cowboy around the Mandaree area until moving to Lame Deer where he attended Chief Dull Knife College for one semester.
After his time at Dull Knife, Mark’s career was being a security guard, he briefly worked at the Cheyenne Depot and later was employed at the Northern Cheyenne Service unit (Lame Deer IHS) until he started his job at the Northern Cheyenne Utilities which he remained at until the time of his death. Mark was united in marriage to Betty Jo Bird on August 31, 1977. To this union, their children were born. Mark’s home was in Mandaree where he wanted to return someday, but lived in Lame Deer because of the love he had for his daughters.
Mark enjoyed working on his cars and doing mechanic work as well as listening to John Forgerty and Hank Williams Jr. Mark found peace in working in his garden and planted one every year. He especially loved and enjoyed his children and grandchildren.
Mark is survived by his wife Betty Jo of Lame Deer, his daughters Tiffany Weaselbear (Elroy) of Lame Deer, Roselyn (Elijah) Rock of Lodge Grass, Roselea (Frank) Huntsalong of Lame Deer, Markita (Hub) Williamson of Lodge Grass and Anissa Kellum of Lame Deer; his brothers Ryan Huntsalong Sr., Gerald Huntsalong Sr., Wilbur Huntsalong, Ambrose Phelan, Vernon (Blue) Youngbear, and Randy Phelan; and one sister Emmarine (Thomas Sr.) Bigpond of Bristol, O.K.; and his mother Margie Huntsalong of Mandaree, ND. He is also survived by his grandchildren Fawn, Mountain, and Elroy Jr. Weaselbear, Walter and Arhiyah Rock, and Paul Heid, as well as two special granddaughters as he as helped raise, Athena and Anthea Whiteman of Lame Deer, MT.
Mark was preceded in death by his father Vincent; his brothers Vincent Jr., and Gary Phelan, as well as his nephew Gerald Huntsalong Jr.

Etta Copps
Etta Peterson Copps, loving mother and wife, died Saturday, November 12, 2005. She was 87.
She was born April 8, 1918, in Philip, S.D., the youngest child of Minnie and John Q. Peterson. She graduated from high school in Wall, S.D., in 1936. While in high school she worked at the soda fountain of the now-famous Wall Drug. After graduation, Etta helped raise her nephew Dale, who was orphaned when a house fire killed his parents Mina and Thomas Galbraith.
Etta was an early-day telephone operator before marrying Dan Copps on Dec. 26, 1939, in Philip. He operated a store and meat market in Philip and four of their children were born there.
In 1945, the couple moved to Miles City, where two more children were born and they took Gail Murry into their hearts and home. Dan was a partner in the grocery business until the couple opened a Ben Franklin store in 1947. They operated the store until 1969.
Dan and Etta then moved to Helena, traveling the state as auditors for the State Liquor Commission. They returned to Miles City in 1974.
The Copps family was active in the Sacred Heart Parish, and Etta was a member of the St. Joseph Division. After retirement, Etta volunteered as a bookkeeper at the parish office, a job she dearly loved.
Etta expressed her love for her family through her constant kindness, dedication and support. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dan, and daughter, Mary Etta.
She is survived by her children: DiAnn Copps and Jim Iverson, Mike and Marty Copps, Teresa and Jim Drakos, Ed and Jana Copps, Gail Nottingham and Steve Wurz, Kay and Bob Balmer; her brother and sister-in-law James and Lucile Peterson; along with 11 grandchildren and 12 great-granchildren.
Vigil services will be held on Sunday, November 13, 2005 at 7:00 p.m. at Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home in Miles City. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, November 14, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Miles City. Rite of Committal will follow in the family lot in the Calvary cemetery.
Memorials may be to Sacred Heart School.

Vera Mae Bower
Vera Mae Bower, age 86, of Jordan passed away on Friday, August 20, 2004 at the Garfield County Health Center in Jordan.
Vera was born in Glendive, Montana on August 13, 1918, the daughter of Bert and Nell (Brown) Bower. She was raised in Yuma, Arizona until the age of 12 when she moved to Butte, Montana where she lived at the Paul Clark Home. She attended school in Butte and then went to Beauty School and became a beautician. She then moved to Fort Peck where she was a waitress and also a beautician during the building of the dam. In 1944, Vera enlisted in the United States Navy where she served as a medical assistant in Hawaii. She was among the first group of WAVES to serve after the bombing of Pearl Harbor. Following her honorable discharge from the service, she returned to Butte where she worked as a beautician. In 1965, she moved to Jordan where she ran a beauty shop until 1988, when she moved back to Butte to be near family where she remained until 2003 when she moved back to Jordan.
Vera was an excellent painter and she won many awards at the county fair. Vera was on the St. Patrick’s Day and Forth of July Parade committee in Butte. She was the Commander of the VFW in Jordan. Vera also served as the Montanan State Cosmetology Inspector. Vera loved cats and was known to take in strays and give them a good home. She traveled extensively throughout the United States and Europe visiting friends.
Vera is survived by her half brother, Bert Bower of Alaska; her half sister, Velda Vial of Hamilton, MT; her good friend, Jane Wille & her late husband Sterling of Jordan, MT; and numerous cousins in Montana, Alaska, and California including Neil and Charlotte Lynch of Butte, MT. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, August 30, 2004 at 2:00 p.m. at the VFW Hall in Jordan. Interment will follow in the Pioneer cemetery in Jordan with full military honors. Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home of Jordan is in charge of the arrangements.
Should friends desire, memorials may be made to the charity of ones choice.

Leona White Dirt Little Wolf
Leona White Dirt Little Wolf, age 75, of Lame Deer passed away on Thursday, September 2, 2004 at her home of natural cause.
Leona was born the daughter of Charles White Dirt and Julia Whistling Elk, on December 7, 1928 at her home near Muddy Creek. Leona was a direct descendent of Chief William Crazyhead on her father’s side and Charles Whistling Elk Braided Hair on her mother’s side. She grew up and attended school in the Muddy Creek area. She married Mike Little Wolf and together they made their home in the Muddy Creek area as well.
Leona was known for her beadwork, dry-meat, fry-bread making as well as quilting. She was a traditional woman. Everyone was welcome in her home and she treated everyone with kindness and respect. She also raised many children as her own. Her husband, William, was a cattle rancher in the Kirby area and she worked along side him in all of the daily chores.
Leona is survived by her daughters Susan L. Little Wolf, Corliss A. Little Wolf-High Bull, and Beatrice Hart; two sons Perry Little Coyote, and Leforce Lone Bear, one brother Glibert White Dirt of Muddy Creek, three sisters May White Dirt of Lame Deer, Imogene Dewey of Lame Deer and Lena Sooktis of Muddy Creek. She is also survived by her seven grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents.

Kyle Andrew Heitbrink
Kyle Andrew Heitbrink, age 21, of Vernon, Texas formerly of Miles City, Montana died September 27, 2004 as a result of a tragic car accident returning home to Texas from his mother’s funeral in Miles City, Montana.
Kyle was the son of the late Donna Kay Smith and Rick Heitbrink of Fort Morgan, Colorado. Kyle was born on January 8, 1983 in Fort Morgan, Colorado. They moved to Miles City where he attended Highland Park School. They later moved to Texas where he finished school. Kyle was planning to go into law enforcement.
Kyle is survived by a daughter, Madison Sara Kay Heitbrink of Vernon, Texas; two brothers: Jason (Cheridy) Heitbrink and their two daughters Hannah and Hailey; and Colton MacDonald of Nebraska; a sister Kelly Buckingham of Terry, MT; his grandparents: Harold Smith of Miles City, MT; Mr. & Mrs. Kenneth Heitbrink of Fort Morgan, CO; his special friends: Sara, Hutch, and Ruby of Vernon, Texas; and numerous uncles, aunts, and cousins. Kyle was preceded in death by his mother, Donna Kay Smith; his aunt, Janet Smith; and a cousin, Brianna Frahm.
A Graveside service will be held on Saturday, October 2, 2004 at 4:00 p.m. at the Calvary cemetery in Miles City.

Forest Henry
Forest L. Henry, age 89, of Jasper, Texas formerly of Belle Fourche, South Dakota passed away on Saturday, October 23, 2004 in Jasper, Texas.
Forest was born in Lead, South Dakota on May 16, 1915, the son of Lee Forest and Leah (Crocker) Henry. He attended grade school and graduated from high school in Lead, South Dakota. Following his schooling, he owned and operated a crop spraying business in Albany, Oregon. It was there that he met Gladys Cridland, They were married in Vancouver, Washington on September 2, 1943. They then returned back to South Dakota where he worked as a heavy equipment operator his entire life, spending time working in Wyoming, Colorado and the past 40 years in Belle Fourche, South Dakota.
Forest is survived by his son, Bob Henry of Newton, TX; a brother, Calvin “Bill” Henry of Topock, AZ; two sisters: Corlena Hyson of Modesto, CA; and Arlene Messer of Modesto, CA; a brother-in-law, Clarence Cridland and his wife Mary of Miles City, MT; three sisters-in-law: Violet Smith of Sacramento, CA; Edith Brewer and her husband Bud of Forsyth, MT; and Margaret Stevens of Yuma, AZ; five grandchildren, four great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Gladys and a brother, Art.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, October 29, 2004 at 11:00 a.m. at the Emmanuel Baptist Church in Belle Fourche, SD. Interment will follow in the Pine Slope cemetery. Should friends desire, memorials may be made to the charity of ones choice.

(Florence) Jean Benjamin Harris
(Florence) Jean Benjamin Harris, 55, of south Wolf Point, passed away peacefully at home Sunday morning, September 19, 2004 after a lengthy courageous battle with cancer.
Jean was born November 12, 1948 at Shelby, MT to Clarence Benjamin and Florence Wood Benjamin. In her youth, she lived at Devon, MT, LaSalle, OR, and then spent most of her school years in Fort Benton, MT. She attended Montana State University where she met her husband, Larry. They were married on December 27, 1968 at her parents’ home in Fort Benton.
Larry was stationed in San Antonio, TX in the Army. While there, Jean was employed by Trinity University. After her husband’s discharge from the Army, they moved to Butte, MT. In March of 1973, Larry and Jean moved to Wolf Point to take over the family farm. She spent her years on the farm helping as a farmwife and being a fulltime Mother to her four children. When her children were young, Jean was active in the PTA at Frontier School. In 1991 she worked in Wolf Point at The Free Trader and then she worked at the County Courthouse in the Health and Human Services Department as an Eligibility Specialist until 2000. Since then she enjoyed being at home with her husband on the farm.
Jean was a faithful Wife and Mother and her purpose was to provide a secure, stable and Godly home for her family. She had many hobbies, which included card making and stamping. She enjoyed traveling to see her children and grandchildren.
Her mother, Florence Wood Benjamin, preceded Jean in death. She is survived by her husband, Larry Harris of south Wolf Point; four children, Russell (Andrea) Harris of Round Rock, TX, Randy (Alison) Harris of Kalispell, Aleta (Rob) Krack of Grand Forks, ND, and Ryan (Jeannie) Harris of Albany, OR; four precious grandchildren; her father, Clarence Benjamin of Fort Benton; brothers, Richard (Dick) of Great Falls, Robert, Roger, and Darrell of rural Fort Benton, Dale of Moscow, Russia, Raymond of Citrus Heights, CA, and Gary of Fort Collins, CO; and one sister, Joanne Parsons of Lewistown, MT.
Visitation will be held Friday, September 24 from 6 to 9 pm at Clayton Stevenson Memorial Chapel. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 25, 2004 at 10 am at the Wolf Point High School Auditorium. Interment will be in Greenwood cemetery. Memorials may be sent to the Wolf Point Cancer Self-Help Group in care of Jim Peterson, 409 5th Ave. North, Wolf Point, MT 59201. Clayton Stevenson Memorial Chapel has been entrusted with arrangements.

Darnel Jungels
Darnell Henry Jungels, age 57 of Miles City, MT passed away on Saturday, September 3, 2005 in Rapid City, SD as the result of a vehicle accident.
Darnell was born on August 28, 1948, in Sharon, ND to Henry and Levina (Hoggarth) Jungels. He grew up on a farm in Picker, North Dakota where he attended grade school and later moved with his family to Finley, North Dakota. As a young man, he worked for many area farmers in North Dakota and in 1967, he went to work for Associated Pools of Bismarck, North Dakota.
In 1984, Darnell moved to Miles City where he worked for many farmers, A & A Electric, Conagra, Inc., Ray Jerrel Inc., and Mike Wacker Trucking.
In the fall of 1987, he met Melody Garfield and later married her on July 22, 1988 in Miles City, MT where they made their home.
In 1993, Darnell fulfilled a lifetime dream of buying his own truck and starting his own business, Jungels Trucking, which he operated until his death.
Darnell loved his family and friends and enjoyed trucking. He loved working with livestock and enjoyed rodeos. During the summer, he would haul rodeo stock for Brookman Rodeo.
During Darnell’s life, he touched many lives. He has too many family members, friends and business associates to all be mentioned here, but please know that to Darnell, each and every one of you was a unique and special blessing in his life. May the Lord bless and watch over each and every one of you.
Darnell is survived by his wife of 18 years, Melody, of Miles City; his two sons, Wally Jungels of San Mateo, California and Rusty Jungels of Miles City, MT; daughter by choice, Sarah Urbaniak and grandson Dominic, of Billings, MT, ; daughter by choice, Denise Sanchez and grandson, Deric of San Mateo, California. He also has two sisters; Carol (Ardell) Lovejoy of Finley, North Dakota and Diane (Paul) Smith of Las Vegas, Nevada, and two nieces, Carlye and Sadie Lovejoy.
Darnell is also survived by a very special friend, Greg Anderson and wife Rhea’ Greg’s mother, Elsie Anderson; and Greg’s brother, Ronald Anderson, all of Miles city, MT.
Darnell was preceded in death by his grandparents, parents, brother John and two sisters-in-law.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 8, 2005 at Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held on Friday, September 9, 2005 at 1:00 p.m. at Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home.

"Toga"- Enemy Boy
Dallas Edward Howard III
Baby Dal or Dal was born December 17, 1983 in Wolf Point to Dallas E. Howard II and Gaylene Stump. He was taken by the creator on August 29, 2004 at the University of Utah Hospital.
A 2002 graduate of Frazer High School, he was the valedictorian of the class. After graduation, Dallas took a full basketball scholarship to Laramie County Community College in Cheyenne, WY and later transferred to Sitting Bull College in ND then to the United Tribes Tech College with a full basketball scholarship in Bismarck, ND to be closer to his family and then to MSU-Northern in Havre, MT. His accomplishments include thrilling the crowd by dunking in junior high. He then was chosen all-conference in his freshman, sophomore, and junior years. He traveled to play in basketball tournaments in Billings, Missoula, Polson, and many more places to numerous to list. He also played in North and South Dakota, Idaho, Utah, Wyoming, and Nebraska. He broke school records in shooting, rebounds, free throws, and steals. On January 27, 2001 Dal broke the school record for scoring the most points in a game with 59 points. His ability to ‘wow’ the crowd and fill the gym to standing room only was awesome. Everyone had a favorite shot, dunk, or game they’d share with others.
Dallas’ hobbies included basketball, hunting, fishing, watching movies, ‘chillin’, cruzing with friends and his latest hobby of internet surfing for his favorite Pontiac cars. He worked with his dad and uncles in construction. He loved to travel to basketball tournaments. He was a role model and inspiration to all his friends and the youth in the Frazer community. His character, traits, manners, and consideration was a gift that made him many friends and acquaintances. His mutual respect of others and their qualities gained him many friends that he will remember and take with him in the next life. Having touched and being a part of you, Dal would want you to take care of yourself, keep looking ahead, and accomplish your goals. His aggressiveness when he played ball was a trait that family, friends and others should carry on as an example in his love of life and its competitions.
When we saw him as we’ll all cherish and remember, he brightened our day, in the moment with his smile. It was in his nature that he’d brighten your day with his smile, as we all know and will cherish in our memories forever. Dal was openly affectionate with his family and friends in his greetings. He loved basketball and his truck.
Dallas is survived by his father, Dallas E. (Casyce) Howard, Jr. of Frazer, his mother, Gaylene (Steven) Stump of Frazer, his brothers Zachary and Nathan of Frazer, sisters Jordan, Payton, and Kristen of Frazer, and expectant fiancé Marissa Wells of New Town, ND. He is also survived by his paternal grandparents Merle Clampitt of Frazer and Dallas Howard Sr. of Ft. Belknap, MT, maternal grandparents Ruth “Tootsie” Long of Pine Ridge, SD and meeting him in heaven Albert Marvin Long Jr., numerous uncles, aunts, cousins and extended family.
We all know in this obituary, something has been left out, unwritten, unsaid to each and every one of us being there’s so much to say. Words and actions can’t describe the specialness in the way he touched us and his existence with us. He will always live in our hearts forever. “He was a star on the basketball court and now a star in heaven.” On behalf of the family, they would like to thank everyone for their prayers, support and acts of kindness.
A wake will be held on Wednesday, September 01, 2004 at 7 pm at the Frazer Community Hall. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, September 2 at 2 pm at the Frazer High School with interment in St. Joseph cemetery. Clayton Stevenson Memorial Chapel has been entrusted with arrangements.

Isaac Don McManus, infant son of Clara OneFeather and Albert McManus, of Lame Deer, was born on July 21, 2004 in Billings at St. Vincent Hospital and passed away on July 22, 2004.
Isaac is survived by his father, Albert McManus and his mother, Clara OneFeather, his two brothers; Leland L. OneFeather and Ira I. McManus, his sister, Shania E. McManus all of Lame Deer, MT, his maternal aunts; Eloise OneFeather, Carole OneFeather of Hot Springs, SD, Janice OneFeather of Kyle SD, Vina Bear Eagle, Beverly Bear Eagle, Julie Shot to Pieces of Wounded Knee, SD, his maternal uncles; Delmar (Linda) OneFeather of Wolf Creek, SD, Gerald OneFeather Sr. of Oglola, SD, Elmer Bear Eagle, Steve (Millie) Bear Eagle, Matthew (Laraine) Bear Eagle of Wounded Knee, SD, his paternal grandparents; Donlin and Victoria (Westermark) Many Bad Horses, Helen Hiwalker, Buella Sioux Calf, Martha La Rance, his paternal aunts; Zethel Wooden Legs, Addie (Gail) Baker, Myrna (Chris) Rochelle, his paternal uncles; Cleve McManus, Kash La Rance, La Force Sioux Calf.
