Mary Louise (O'Neil) Libbey
Birth date: December 8, 1911
Death date: December 10, 2014

Mary O’Neil Libbey was born in her parents’ home in Lewiston, Maine on December 8, 1911. She was the daughter of Julia (Donelly) O’Neil and Daniel Joseph O’Neil.
Mary graduated from Jordan High in 1929 and Bates College in Lewiston in 1933. She married the love of her life Chan Libbey in Lewiston, Maine on June 7, 1934. On July 1, 1934 they arrived in Livingston, Montana to spend their honeymoon on the OTO Dude Ranch in Paradise Valley where Chan had spent the previous summer as a guest. They later purchased the ranch from Dick Randall and lived there during the early years with their children. They hosted dudes until the effects of the war caused a downturn in the Dude business and then started raising Arabian horses while they lived at the ranch.
They moved to Livingston from the ranch in 1942 and Mary held down the fort while Chan joined the front in Europe for WWII. Upon his return they left the ranch and purchased the Park Coca Cola bottling plant and business in 1950 and then got into the beer business in 1954. Mary laughingly told her grandkids that she & Grandpa got it backwards, “we goofed off when we were young and had to go to work in our middle age.”
Together Mary and Chan worked to build Cardinal Distributing into one of the premier beer distributorships in Montana. During this time they enjoyed their Livingston friends, travel, dogs, fishing, picnicking, hunting, golfing and their kids and grandkids. In the mid 70’s Mary moved with Chan to Bozeman and they opened a new warehouse. Mary continued to live in Bozeman after Chan passed in 1993.
Mary lived just past her 103rd birthday. She was quizzed by many as to what her secret was to the long, healthy life she led. Her answer varied a bit, but carried a theme of taking care of oneself with exercise and good diet. She subscribed to the theory of a glass of red wine a day and in her later years that was a source of joy as she shared many meals with her family. Throughout her life Mary was a learner, a wonderful friend to those she knew, kind and generous to those she didn’t, an avid reader, an excellent cook and an inspiration to those who surrounded and loved her. She had a fabulous memory and had a knack to make each person in her life feel very special as she conversed to find out just what they were up to.
Mary was the proud Mother of three children, Chandra Mary, Chan II and Christopher David. She is survived by them as well as eleven grandchildren; Mary Bridget Erb Meehan, Cera Erb, Nora Drummond (Bill), Guy Erb, Rex Erb, Tamara Libbey (Dennis Curtin), Wendy Hoiness (Eric), Cassandra Osborn (Gary Morrison), Chan Libbey III (Pam), Brennan Libbey, Marco Vranish (Trisha): Great Grandchildren; Liam Meehan, Conner Meehan, Brian Bauer, Rachel Bauer, Layne Fisher, Lydia Wilcox, William Chan Hoiness, Ava Libbey, Marlo Libbey, Chase Vranish, Aaden Vranish, and Terrie Freese.
Mary is predeceased by her parents, two brothers, Leo and John, her husband Channell Truman Libbey, and daughter in law Doreen Libbey. She is survived by daughter Chandra (Gool Counts) of Livingston, Chan II of Livingston (Margaret) and Christopher of Livingston (Midge Collins).
She was a member of Holy Rosary parish. Cremation has taken place and a Celebration of her life will take place in the summer of 2015. Memorials may be sent to Hospice of Bozeman Deaconess or Holy Rosary Parish in Bozeman.

Kurt Albert Winegardner
Birth date: July 6, 1954
Death date: February 11, 2015

Kurt Albert Winegardner, 60, passed away in his home, listening to Dylan on February 11, 2015. Kurt grew up in Billings, MT, spending hours at Lissa Field, making life long friends. His quest for the perfect golf swing began while working in the bag room of the YCC. If you were from Billings he was quick to ask “are you a Bronc or Golden Bear?” He, of course, came from a family of Broncs.
Kurt pursued his love of wine and everything French for 35 years starting with a stint in Burgundy as a student through the U. of M. Little wonder Kurt majored in wine, but that was Missoula in the 70’s, we won’t go on.
When Kurt moved to Bozeman, he met Melinda and together they created Winegardner’s Wines. His enthusiasm and passion for the business allowed them the opportunity to make incredible friends, see incredible places, and offer incredible wines to Montana. “We’re always working, we’re always playing” How great was that? He and Melinda had an amazing life together, filled with work they both loved, travel, laughter, and many hours at the Scrabble board.
Kurt valued the many great relationships he formed throughout his life. They gave him energy to stay young and catered to his quirky sense of humor.
He came to life when talking about one of his many passions: wine, Dylan, golf, France, the fourth dimension, shoes, Hawaii, cookies, yoga or the grandchildren. Kurt was proud of the fact that he had grandkids without ever having kids and that he had never changed a diaper.
If Kurt were to enliven your senses or fire your imagination, open the door to a hidden passion, create a smile, accidentally educate, drive you to download a fact check app or in any way inspire you, he would have been happy.
His father Albert, mother Jayne, and sister Ann precede Kurt in death. He is survived by his sister Jill, brother Jon (Kathleen, Sam, Eli), nephew Christopher (Teresa), step son Jacob (Briana, Carter, Adella), and adoring wife and partner of 18 years, Melinda.
A celebration of Kurt’s life will be held on Saturday, February 28th from 1-4 p.m. at the Yellow Barn next to the WW Warehouse located at 346 Gallatin Park Dr, Bozeman, MT.
