Betty Jean McAllister

Onetime Libby resident Betty Jean McAllister, 74, died Oct. 7, 2003, at her home in Eureka.
She was born on Dec. 6, 1928, at Hardin, to Bert and Bonnie Ferguson.
She spent her early childhood in Hardin before the family moved to the Tobacco Valley.
Betty graduated from Lincoln County High School at Eureka in 1948.
She married Kenneth McAllister on Dec. 23, 1947.
They lived in the Tobacco Valley after their marriage, and except for a time when they lived at Libby, had remained in the Eureka area.
Betty worked as a cook at local restaurants, was employed in the school lunch program and did upholstery work in the Eureka area.
She served for more than 25 years as a volunteer dispatcher and also served on the Eureka dispatch board.
Betty was a member of the First Baptist Church. She enjoyed quilting and belonged to the quilt guild. She also enjoyed flowers and gardening.
She was preceded in death by her husband Kenneth in 1994 and by her parents.
Survivors include her children, Bruce McAllister and his wife Kathy, Kalispell; Linda Maranville, Van Nuys, Calif.; Susan Fuller and her husband Richard, Saint Maries, Idaho; Dwight McAllister and his wife Cindy, Arvada, Colo., and Ella McAllister and Tracy Rieben and her husband Greg, all of Eureka; sister Ruth Yerian, Eureka, and brother Jack Fergerson, Fort Lupton, Colo., seven grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Tobacco Valley cemetery with the Rev. David Juroe officiating.
Arrangements are under direction of the Nelson & Vial Funeral Home in Eureka.

Ruth Rogge

Ruth Pearl Cook Rogge, 69, of Troy, died on Oct. 2, 2003, at St. John’s Lutheran Hospital.
She was born on Feb. 19, 1934, at Bakersfield, Calif., to Hilton A. and Laura Rexie Rains Cook.
She married Wally Sagen in 1952.
On Dec. 25, 1969, Ruth married Cecil Rogge at Addie, Idaho.
She enjoyed cooking, baking, canning, sewing and working in her flower garden.
Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, son Richard B. Sagen, and sisters Margaret Nelson, Lila Sells and Barbara Ferris.
Survivors include her husband Cecil, Troy; sons Roger E. Sagen and his wife Ku Ming, Medical Lake, Wash.; Rodney D. Sagen and his wife Anna, Anchorage, Alaska, and Gary A. Sagen and his wife Cathy, Anaconda; daughters Carolyn Smith, Troy, and Clissie Rogers and her husband Kevin, also of Troy; sisters Betty Morkeberg, Troy; Carolyn Lewis and her husband Hugh, Okanogan, Wash.; Helen Lahr and her husband Gary, Eureka; brothers Hilton P. (Johnnie) Cook and his wife Florence, Libby, and Harvey (Bud) Cook, Bonners Ferry, Idaho; 11 grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday. Oct. 18, at the Kootenai Senior Citizens Center in Troy.
Arrangements are by the Nelson & Vial Funeral Home.

Dale Simonson

Dale Myles Simonson, 44, of Libby, died on Oct. 4, 2003, at the Libby Care Center.
Dale was born on May 1, 1959, at Libby, to Floyd and LaVone Meyer Simonson.
Dale attended Libby schools and worked for the St. Regis Paper Co.
A hit-and-run sledding accident in 1977 left Dale with brain damage.
His mother took care of him for 20 years, until her death in 1999.
Dale went through the Community Bridges Program in Missoula and then went to the Bee Hive Home.
He was in and out of the hospital and was in the Village Health Care Center and the Community Medical Center.
Dale wanted to come home to Libby, and on Oct. 2, 2003, his wish was granted and he was brought back to Libby and admitted to the Libby Care Center. His last days were spent with family and friends.
A wonderful caring person, Dale greeted everyone and made everyone laugh and smile. His family and friends were gifts he cherished every day of his life.
Dale will be missed by all whose lives he touched and remembered by all who loved him.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include sisters Jennifer McElmurry and her husband Duane, Libby; JoJo Skinner and her husband Joe, Belgrade, and Zetta Thom and her husband LeRoy, Libby; brother Shawn Simonson and his wife Billie, Libby; half-brother Lynn Simonson in Wyoming and half-sister LaVonne Simonson of Arizona.
He is also survived by nephews Mark and Ben Thom, Libby; Luke Skinner, Phoenix, Ariz., and Jake Skinner, Lawrence, Kan.; Joe McElmurry and his wife Jenn, Libby, and nieces Shawna Faybeck and her husband Scott, Kalispell, Holly Young and her husband Mike, Libby, Lana and Tayla of Libby, and numerous other relatives.
Visitation was from 1-8 p.m. Monday and graveside services were conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the City of Libby cemetery.
Nelson & Vial Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Betty Denzin

Former Libby resident Betty Denzin, 74, of Stevensville, died Sept. 27, 2003, at the Community Medical Center in Missoula.
She was born on Aug. 27, 1929 at Shelby to Roy and Ellen Bardwell Campbell.
Betty moved with her family to Darby, where she graduated from Darby High School.
On Nov. 7, 1947, she married Elmer Schmitt at Hamilton and they had three children.
Elmer and Betty were later divorced and Betty married Marlin (Butch) Denzin on Feb. 27, 1981.
Butch preceded her in death on Oct. 26, 1997.
Betty lived in Libby for 25 years before moving to Greybull, Wyo., where she lived for 17 years before returning to the Stevensville area in 1998.
She was a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church at Stevensville and enjoyed reading, music, playing the organ and writing songs. She also loved to crochet and knit.
Survivors include her three children, John Schmitt, Port Orchard, Wash.; Janice Gardner, Raleigh, N.C.; and Joellen Roberts, Stevensville; step-children Herbert, Donna and Glen; sisters Louise Schallenberger, Darby, Jennie Lindquist, Hamilton; half-brothers Jim and Tom Campbell, Townsend, six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Services were conducted at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Grace Lutheran Church in Hamilton with the Rev. Glenn Merritt and the Rev. Raymond Larson officiating.
Interment followed at the Lone Pine cemetery at Darby.
Memorials may be made to Our Savior Lutheran Church at Stevensville or to Grace Lutheran Church at Hamilton.
Daly-Leach Chapel was in charge of arrangements.

Bobbie Clawson

Former Libby resident Robert (Bobbie) Erven Clawson, 66, of Airway Heights, Wash., died Sept. 25, 2003, at Spokane.
He was born on Nov. 11, 1936, at White Sulphur Springs to Erven and Dora Petersen Clawson. The only boy, Bobbie, was the oldest of seven children.
Bobbie spent most of his life as a log truck driver. He was blessed with a large family who loved him dearly. Known to all for his sense of humor, he will be greatly missed.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Josephine Harvey and son Corey Clawson.
Survivors include five children, Rob Clawson, Coeur d’Alene, Idaho; Charles Carr and his wife Julie, Cheney, Wash.; Kallie Hansen and her husband Doug, Greeley, Colo.; Kari Livingston and her husband Laren, Denver, Colo.; and David Clawson and his wife Darcie, Post Falls, Idaho; sisters Sharon Larson, Libby; Evelyn Nygard and her husband Jack, Marble Falls, Texas; Linda Carr and her husband Delbert, Libby; Kathy Stringham and Vicky Clawson, both of Kalispell; grandchildren Tori and Casey Clawson, Colby Karam; Brittany, Cory and Christopher Carr; Dakota, Cassidy and Drew Hansen; Kayla, Alyssa, Kyle and Rilyn Livingston; Ricky, Bailey and Katie Clawson, and great-grandson Kyle.
Visitation was from 1-8 p.m. Tuesday and services will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 1, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Libby.

Kenneth Guinard

Kenneth L. Guinard, 67, of Troy, died on Sept. 24, 2003, at the Libby Care Center.
He was born on March 13, 1936, at Great Falls, to Lucien and Alice Guinard.
Kenneth had lived in the Thompson Falls and Trout Creek areas in Sanders County until coming to Troy in 1968.
He served with the U.S. Army and after his honorable discharge was employed as a logger and sawmill worker. He also worked on the Libby Dam Project and was employed by the City of Troy for a number of years before working at Asarco.
An avid outdoorsman, Kenneth enjoyed fishing and hunting.
He was preceded in death by his wife Cleo, brothers Wayne, Ben and Jasper and sister Bea Marshall.
Survivors include his children, Jim Guinard and his wife Dorothy; Fred Guinard and his wife Gabriele; Randy Bacon and her husband Allen and Tracy Guinard, all of Troy; Alice (Missy) Guinard, Kalispell, and Mark Guinard and his wife Monica, Troy; brothers Tom and his wife Jan in Idaho; Jerry and his wife Lela, Dillon, and Bill and his wife Ellen, Stevensville; sisters Nancy Lewis and her husband Brian, Eureka; Judy Bruce and her husband Gary, Kalispell; Marge White and her husband Larry in Idaho; Rosalie Kelly and her husband John Sietta, Vista, Ariz., and Wilma Jietje and her husband Forrest; eight grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Services will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Saturday at the Troy Church of God with the Rev. Gene Bushnell officiating.
Arrangements are under direction of the Nelson & Vial Funeral Home.

Esther Robbe

Esther Jane Robbe, 81, longtime Troy resident, died on Saturday, Sept. 27, 2003, at her home on Savage Lake.
The ninth in a family of 12 children, she was born on July 19, 1922, at Polson, to George W. and Ida Embody Davis.
Esther attended country school at Sunny Slope and at Polson.
She married Lyle James of Polson and they had two children, Elsie and Larry.
After moving to Libby, Esther worked at the C&H Meat Market, Adkins Store and Rosauers.
On Oct. 19, 1959, she married Warren Robbe of Libby, and they had a daughter Pat.
They moved to Troy and after taking over ownership of the Saverite Service in 1974, the carwash became Esther’s baby.
After selling the station, Esther enjoyed taking care of her home and working in the yard. She belonged to the VFW Auxiliary 1548 at Libby and the Kootenai Senior Citizens Center at Troy. She loved playing cards.
Her parents, brothers George, Walt, Frank and Ray, sisters Lula Sager, Violet Koehler, Inez Mefford and Lenore Larson and grandson Russell DeMars preceded her in death.
Survivors include her husband Warren, Troy; children Elsie DeMars and her husband David, Bigfork; Pat McLeod, Houston, Texas, Tenas and son Larry James in Spain; sisters Mariane Heyne, Libby; Alice Needles, Lincoln; brother Ralph Davis, Stockett, grandson Dale DeMars, Kalispell; granddaughters Darla Czyz, Marion; Cindy Cory, Bigfork, Ginger Webber, Sandpoint, Idaho; Laurie Hawkins, Boulder, Colo.; Lexi James, San Francisco, Calif., 11 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandson and numerous nieces and nephews.
Services will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 4, at the Kootenai Senior Citizens Center in Troy.

Edwin Cripe

Edwin Willis Cripe, 91, of Hermiston, Ore., died on Nov. 24, 2004.
He was born on March 15, 1913, to Rufus and Bertha Cripe on the family homestead on Callahan Creek.
In April 1935, Eddie married Sarah Grigg of Troy and they had three children, Jerry, David and Patricia..
As a young man, Eddie worked in the woods, felling timber and making and shipping cedar posts.
The family moved to Oregon in 1953 and Eddie worked in the timber industry for several years before purchasing a grape vineyard.
Active in the Grape Growers Association for many years, Eddie later bought a truck used to deliver mobile homes.
He retired in 1978 and devoted retirement years to caring for his wife Sarah who had been in a serious automobile accident.
He will be remembered as a thoughtful husband, helpful dad, special grandfather and loving brother.
Eddie was preceded in death by Sarah, his wife for 65 years; son David Walter Cripe, and brothers Ford Cripe and Robert Cripe.
He is survived by sister Margery Higgins; daughter Patricia Rebman; son Jerry Cripe; a grandson they raised, David (Skip) Cripe, along with six other grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
A memorial service was held in Hermiston on Dec. 1, 2004.

Geneva McCrory

Geneva McCrory, 92, a former Havre resident, died on Jan. 27, 2005, at the Libby home of her daughter.
Survivors include three daughters, Rita Hval, Fargo, N.D.; Georgina Hansen and her husband Gene, Glendive, and Mary Lou Livesay and her husband Gary of Libby; 11 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband Donald (Bus) McCrory, four sisters and a son-in-law.
Interment services will be take place at Havre at a later date.
Nelson and Vial Funeral Home is in charge of local arrangements.
