John Norberg

John Melvin Norberg Jr., 67, of Libby, died on Friday, Feb. 4, 2005, at Kalispell of heart failure.
He was born on July 28, 1937 at Chinook to John Melvin and Myrtle Swenson Norberg.
He received his early education at Chinook, graduating from Chinook High School with the Class of 1957.
John served with the National Guard after graduating from high school and returned to Chinook where he married Nancy Buhmann in 1960.
The Norbergs had three daughters and were married until 1998.
John worked in the Buhmann family beekeeping business until 1967 when he enrolled at Northern Montana College at Havre, earning a degree in mechanical drafting.
In 1969 the Norbergs moved to Libby where John was employed in the engineering department for St. Regis Paper Company and later for Champion. He began work for the City of Libby as a building inspector in 1994 and was still working for the city on a part-time basis at his death.
John loved hunting, fishing, sports, his family, friends and his dog Jesse. He enjoyed frequent trips to eastern Montana, especially to Chinook.
He played basketball when he was younger and continued to enjoy league bowling throughout his life.
John coached his daughter Wendy’s softball team and remained an avid Logger fan, attending many sporting events.
An active member of Christ Lutheran Church, John also belonged to the Sons of Norway and was a volunteer firefighter for St. Regis and Champion.
John was a loving father and grandfather. A fun-loving person who took pleasure in joking around with his grandchildren and others, he was blessed with many close friends and will be missed by all who knew him.
John is survived by his three daughters, Terri Hartly and her husband Jim, Livingston; Kim Everts and her husband Michael, Bozeman, and Wendy Wilson and her husband Bob, Kalispell, five grandsons Christopher and Andrew Hartly, Spencer Everts and Gavyn and Logan Wilson, and two granddaughters Alison and Bianca Everts, a brother Frank Norberg, Erlanger, Ky., and three sisters, Dixie Darby, Pine Mount Valle, Ga., Darlene Warrington, Laurel, and Darla Plouffe, Chinook.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 10, at Christ Lutheran Church, followed by a luncheon.
Burial services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 12, at Cooper Memorial cemetery in Chinook.
The family suggests that memorials be made to Christ Lutheran Church, 200 W. Larch, Libby.

Howard Orr

Howard Orr, 62, of Libby, died on Friday, Feb. 4, 2005, at St. John’s Lutheran Hospital.
He was born on Feb. 7, 1942, at Libby, to Ed and Charlotte Orr.
Raised and educated at Libby, Howard had a long and varied career in the lumber industry, working first as a lathe operator at the St. Regis plywood plant in Libby and later as a logger, crane operator and logging truck driver.
Howard also worked for the Boeing Aircraft Company in Seattle as a machinist, in construction throughout the western states and as a long-haul trucker.
As a Libby businessman, Howard owned and operated King Pizza and worked as a realtor for Ryan Realty.
Survivors include his wife Raquel, Libby; his children, Coreena Taylor, Kalispell; Brent Orr, Libby, and Angela Mikkelson, Hawley, Minn.; his mother Charlotte Orr, Libby; brothers and sisters, Herb Orr, Libby; Nancy Adams, Moyie Springs, Idaho; Marie Parker, Rob Orr, Janie Kvapil, Margaret (Maggie) Doubek and David Orr, all of Libby, and grandchildren Melissa, Melanie and Kelsey.
He was preceded in death by his father Ed Orr and his sister Susan Orr Mavity.
Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Wednesday at Christ Lutheran Church with Pastor Les Nelson officiating.
Interment services will follow at the City of Libby cemetery.
Friends may call at the Nelson & Vial Funeral Home from 3-8 p.m. on Tuesday.
Nelson & Vial Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Ruth Wert

Former Troy resident Ruth Irene Litch Wert, 89, died on Wednesday, Feb. 2, 2005, at the Ferry County Memorial Hospital Nursing Home in Republic, Wash., where she had lived for the past five and a half years.
Ruth was born on Feb. 27, 1915, at Moscow, Idaho, to Carmie J. and Flora Healy Litch.
She married Clinton Wert on Nov. 22, 1936 in the house where she was born.
The family moved to the Bull Lake area in 1948 to operate the Bull Lake grocery store until they moved to Troy in 1954.
Ruth worked at Kensler’s Market and was a member of Kootenai Chapter No. 88 of the Order of Eastern Star. She later belonged to Parker Chapter No. 96, Florida OES.
Ruth and Clint left Troy in 1966 and traveled for several years before settling in Brewster, Wash., in 1977.
They later moved to East Wenatchee, where Clint died in 1985.
Ruth moved to Florida in 1993 and lived there until moving to Republic in 1999.
Survivors include son, Barton and his wife Carla, Republic, son Wayne and his wife Molly, Parker, Fla., five grandchildren and two step-grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, five step-great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandson and three step-great-great grandsons.
Memorials may be made to the FCMH Nursing Home, 36 Klondike Road, Republic, WA 99166.

Dean Adkins

Dean Adkins, 67, of Libby, died Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2005, at St. John’s Lutheran Hospital.
He was born to Emmett Adkins and Janet Tunison Adkins, at Libby, on July 13, 1937.
When he was very young his family moved to Burien, Wash., and lived there until moving to Troy when Dean was 11 years old.
He attended Troy schools, graduating from Troy High School in 1955.
After high school Dean worked for the J. Neils Lumber Company.
He married high school sweetheart Ellen McNulty in December 1955.
They moved to Libby and Dean continued working for J. Neils, St. Regis and Champion in the logging operations. He also owned and operated his own logging truck for 13 years, retiring in 1999.
Following retirement he began to spend more time doing the things he loved the most.
His greatest joy came from spending time with family and friends at their cabin and fishing in the quiet mornings and evenings with his wife.
Fishing and camping experiences took him to various waters, including Lake McDonald, Kootenai Lakes and Alaska’s Cook Inlet.
Many hours were spent making and executing plans for seasonal elk hunting trips.
Dean also enjoyed a good game of cribbage and “visiting with the guys” at Delbert Carr’s.
Survivors include Ellen, his wife for 49 years, Libby; son Barry Adkins and daughters Julie Kendall and her husband Bob, and Janie Bache and her husband Jeff, all of Libby; brother Dave Adkins, also of Libby, grandchildren August, Jeremiah, Sammi, Katie and Nathan and great-grandsons Mason and Landyn.
Dean was preceded in death by his parents and brother Willis.
Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Saturday at the Nelson & Vial Funeral Home with longtime friend Pastor Gene Bushnell officiating.
Friends may call at the Nelson & Vial Funeral Home Chapel from 3-8 p.m. on Friday.

Rose Holzer

Rose R. Holzer, 82, of Libby, died Feb. 1, 2005, at St. John’s Lutheran Hospital.
She was born on March 2, 1922, at Strasburg, N.D., to Christian and Regina Faith and was raised and educated in North Dakota.
Rose lived at Bismarck, N.D., and later at Yakima, Wash., before moving to Libby in 1974.
She worked as a waitress and cook at the Ten Pin Café and the Husky Café for many years.
She enjoyed being a mom and grandma most of all. She also enjoyed cooking, playing cards and taking trips with her family to pick wild berries.
She is survived by seven children, Tony Holzer and his friend Bobbie, Libby; Robert Holzer and his wife Shirley, Bismarck; Jolene Steiger and her husband Butch, Libby; Patrick Holzer, Fairbanks, Alaska; Patricia Holzer, Donald Holzer and his wife Judy and Donna Lindsay and her husband Duane, all of Libby; her twin sister Anna Marie Vogel, Yakima, Wash.; brothers John Faith and his wife Marie, Yakima; Larry Faith and his wife Bee, Naches, Wash., and Ray Faith and his wife Barb, Yakima; 14 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
Rose was preceded in death by three children, Angeline, JoAnn and Gene, and two brothers.
Services will be conducted at 3 p.m. on Saturday at the Nelson & Vial Funeral Home Chapel with Deacon David Weisbeck officiating.
Friends may call at the Nelson & Vial Funeral Home Chapel from 3-8 p.m. on Friday.

James Johnson

Longtime Libby building contractor James E. Johnson, 87, died on Feb. 1, 2005, at the Libby Care Center.
He was born on Nov. 12, 1917, at Luther, to Callie Wilson and Janet Helps Wilson.
His father died when he was very young and Jim was adopted by August Johnson.
Raised and educated at Fromberg, he came to Libby in 1936.
Jim married Mary Applegate of Libby on May 31, 1941, at Kalispell.
James served with the U.S. Army Medical Corps during World War II.
The Johnsons raised their family in the Kootenai Valley, where Jim worked for J. Neils Lumber Company and St. Regis, until he went into business for himself as a building contractor. He built at least 40 homes in the Libby area.
A member of the Church of the Nazarene, Jim served the Lord in numerous capacities in the church.
An avid outdoorsman, Jim enjoyed fishing, hunting and hiking in the mountains surrounding Libby.
Survivors include Mary, his wife for 63 years, at the family home in Libby; their children, Carolyn Alsbury and her husband Fred, Libby; Richard Johnson and his wife Genie, Buckley, Wash., and Bobby Johnson and his wife Robbie, Wellington, Fla.; sister Edna Visger and her husband Lawrence, Libby, 13 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by grandson Craig Geil.
Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 7, at the Church of the Nazarene, followed by interment services with military honors at Milnor Lake cemetery.
Friends may call at the Nelson & Vial Funeral Home from 1-8 p.m. on Sunday.

Greg Kambel

Greg Kambel, 46, of Libby, died Monday, Jan. 31, 2005, while playing his favorite game of weekly basketball.
Greg was best known locally as the voice of Libby Logger sports on KLCB radio.
A native of Waterloo, Iowa, Greg was born there on March 23, 1958, to Robert and Gladys Kambel.
He was raised and educated at Waterloo, graduating from Columbus High School in 1976.
He attended Loras Collage at Dubuque, Iowa and later went to the University of Iowa at Iowa City.
He married Deb Andreessen at Washburn, Iowa, on July 18, 1981.
While in Waterloo, Greg was employed by Gordy’s Foods. He came to Libby in 1985 where he was fleet manager at Timberline Auto Center.
Always friendly, positive and helpful when it came to community projects and concerns, Greg actively supported Libby High School athletics and other school activities. He enjoyed serving as coach of his daughters baseball team.
An avid golfer, Greg was an active member of the Cabinet View Country Club and was a member and past officer of the Elks Lodge.
Survivors include his wife Deb, Libby; daughters Melissa Meinhart, Tacoma, Wash., and Brooke Kambel, Renton, Wash.; brothers Eldon Kambel and his wife Wilma, Reynoldsburg, Ohio, and Gordon Kambel, Ankeny, Iowa; sisters Kathy Pullum and her husband Don, Enterprise, Ala., and Jan Levendusky, Eau Claire, Wis.; his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Roy and Emmalou Andreessen, Washburn; brother-in-law and sister-in-law Terry and Carole Andreessen, Libby, and sister-in-law Janelle Quinn, Bellevue, Wash.; 15 nieces and nephews and 13 great-nieces and nephews.
Greg was preceded in death by his parents.
Services will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Friday at the Ralph Tate Gymnasium at Libby High School.
Friends may call at the Nelson & Vial Funeral Home from 3-8 p.m. Thursday.
Memorials may be made to the Greg Kambel Memorial Fund in care of Libby High School.

Carliss Alderman

Former Libby resident Carliss Alderman, 58, of Carson City, Nev., died on Jan. 26, 2005, at Reno, Nev.
He was born on May 28, 1946, at Altus, Okla., to Joseph F. and Merle Alderman.
Carliss worked for a number of companies in different locations, doing underground mining construction.
He enjoyed spending time with his family, hunting and fishing.
Carliss and his wife Yolanda had been married for 32 years.
His father died in 1977 and his mother died in 1992. He was also preceded in death by one brother, Marvin Alderman, in 1976.
Survivors include his wife Yolanda, Carson City; sons Sean Alderman and Nathan Alderman, both of Winnemucca, Nev.; daughter Angela Auge and her husband Mark, Yuba City, Calif.; brothers Lerry Alderman, Danny Alderman and John Alderman, all of Phoenix, Ariz., and seven grandchildren.
Cremation took place at Walton’s Sierra Crematory in Carson City.
Arrangements were under direction of Walton’s Chapel of the Valley at Carson City.
