Glen Anderson

Glen A. Anderson, 84, of Libby, died Monday, Dec. 27, 2004, at the Libby Care Center.
He was born on April 3, 1920, at Libby, to Earl and Stella Tostrude Anderson.
He grew up on a farm outside of Arnold, Wis., and attended school at Arnold.
He worked for a paper mill in Cornell and served in the U.S. Army from 1942-1944.
He married Edna Boucher on June 25, 1947 and they moved to Libby in 1952.
Glen worked for J. Neils Lumber Company and Champion International for 30 years, retiring in 1982.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, overhauling Volkswagens and spending time with his grandchildren.
He was a member of the Good Sam Club and the Snow Cat Club.
He and Edna had spent the winter months in Arizona for the past 15 years.
Survivors include his wife Edna, Libby; children Eileen Dollan, Kalispell; Brenda Hill and her husband Donald, Libby; sister Ruth Stueve, Bradbury, Calif.; grandchildren Tandy Khameneh and her husband Farhad, Missoula, Heidi Picchietti and husband Dan and Kami Hill, Missoula; great-grandchildren Kiera and Kagen Khameneh, Chaz LaDue and Jessica Piccheitti, two nieces and a nephew.
Services will be conducted at 3 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 31, at the Nelson & Vial Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from 1-7 p.m. on Thursday.

Vikki Anderson

Vikki Ann Anderson, 57, died on Nov. 20, 2004, at Portland.
She was born on Oct. 13, 1947, at Bonners Ferry, Idaho, to Garland and Belle Anderson.
Born with severe cerebral palsy and not expected to live past the age of two, her life was greatly prolonged by the love and care provided by her mother and family who felt fortunate to have Vikki.
Survivors include her mother Belle, brothers Ron and Edward of Portland, Allen, Dandy, Ore., and Daryl of Libby, and sister Debra Erlenbush, The Dalles, Ore.
Vikki was preceded in death by her father Garland in 1992.
A memorial service at Troy will take place this summer.

Wayne Kittilson

Wayne Albin Kittilson, 82, of Libby, died on Dec. 27, 2004 at Libby.
He was born on Aug. 28, 1922, at Hardin and attended several area schools before graduating from Cut Bank High School.
At the young age of 17, Wayne enlisted in the Army Air Corps and proudly served overseas during World War II, assigned to the 509th Bomb Squadron and the 351st Bomb Group AAF.
In 1944 his crew parachuted to the ground as their aircraft was shot down. Captured, they were confined in Stalag XVII-B.
Enduring unimaginable hardships as a prisoner of war, Wayne persevered through 16 months of captivity until rescued in 1945.
Determined to live life to the fullest, Wayne was always one for adventure. Working as a scuba diver and volunteering many hours at the Koocanusa Marina were among his many activities.
He was happiest meeting new friends through organizations as demonstrated by his lifetime memberships in American Ex-Pows, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Air Force Sergeant’s Association, American Legion, Elks, Moose, Good Sam Club and the Gold Prospector’s Association.
He was also an 18-year, 4th degree member of the Knights of Columbus, an honorary member of the Montana Sheriffs and Peace Officers Association and an active member of Libby Senior Citizens.
It was at the Senior Citizens Center that Wayne met Dorothy and the two were married on Nov. 28, 1981.
Wayne eagerly joined Dorothy’s already large family and with great pride enjoyed his new role. They had a wonderful time traveling in their motor home, attending Good Sam gatherings all over the country, sharing hobbies, visiting family and making new friends wherever their travels took them.
Survivors include his wife Dorothy, Libby; brother Jack Milson, Kalispell, sister Shirley Gowel, Santa Rosa, Calif., and nieces Mary Lou Erickson and Nancy Vargus, both of Santa Rosa.
He is also survived by his step-children, Patrick Day, Missoula, Donna Leatherberry, Baraboo, Wis., Ella Myers and her husband Herman, Richland, Wash., Sharon Weber and her husband Don, Post Falls, Idaho; Robert Day and his wife Sonja, also of Post Falls, Sara Hedahl and her husband Keith, Libby, Hazel Day, Post Falls, Dennis Day and his wife Linda, Libby, Agnes Sunell and her husband DeWayne, Priest River, Idaho, and Donald Day and his wife Gloria, Lufkin, Texas; nearly 100 grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Wayne was many things to many people. To some he was an American patriot who serve his country with pride and dedication; to some he was a good friend, lodge brother or member of the congregation. And to some he was a wonderful Grandpa who enjoyed a fun toy as much as the kids did.
Those who knew him will not forget him. He will be deeply missed.
Visitation will be from 1-5 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 30, with parish vigil services at 5 p.m. at the Nelson & Vial Funeral Home.
Mass of the Resurrection will be at 10 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 31, at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Father Jozef Perehubka as celebrant.
Burial will follow at the City of Libby cemetery.
Arrangements are under direction of the Nelson & Vial Funeral Home.

Bill Haines

William (Bill) Tatum Haines, 51, died on Tuesday, Dec. 22, 2004, at his home in Libby.
He was born on Sept. 26, 1953, at Kalispell to Clifford E. and Amy H. Haines.
Bill attended grade school and high school in Kalispell, graduating in 1971.
He attended Flathead Valley Community College and also received advanced appraisal training in Portland, Ore.
Prior to coming to Libby, Bill worked for the Flathead County weed department. He started working for the Montana Department of Revenue in 1976 at Kalispell and began working in Lincoln County in 1979.
Bill had worked as a property tax appraiser for the State of Montana, Department of Revenue, in Lincoln County for the past 23 years. He was known as “Bill the tax man.”
He married Janet Hamilton on Feb. 24, 1979 at Kalispell. They lived in Kalispell for two years before moving to Libby, their home for the past 23 years.
Bill was an active member at Faith Bible Church, attending faithfully for 23 years and currently serving as an elder and lay preacher. He also served as director of the Awana Truth and Training Club. His passion was working with young people and he had been involved in Awana Club for more than 30 years. He often spoke from the pulpit at Faith Bible where he was loved by many for the way he incorporated his wonderful stories, memories and jokes into his sermons.
Bill enjoyed dreaming of owning a 1957 Chevy. He loved attending home shows as well as drawing and designing house plans. He treasured spending time with family, friends and neighbors.
Survivors include Janet, his wife of 25 years, Libby; son Tatum Haines and daughter Anne and her husband Ben Simmons, and grandchildren Zachary and Isabelle Haines, and Hailey and Baby Simmons, all of Libby; Hunter, Star and Aurora Simmons, Bemidji, Minn.; mother Amy Haines, Kalispell; brother John Haines and his wife Kathy, Great Falls; sister Margaret Engberg, Kalispell; mother-in-law Joyce Hamilton, Kalispell; brother and sister-in-law Mike and Suzie Hamilton, Lewiston, Idaho; sister-in-law Vickie Hamilton, Kalispell; sister and brother-in-law Cindy and Chris Barry, Kalispell, and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
Bill was preceded in death by his father Clifford Haines, father-in-law Byron Hamilton and brother-in-law Gary Hamilton.
Services were conducted at 1 p.m. on Tuesday at Faith Bible Church with burial following at the City of Libby cemetery.
Visitation was from 4-8 p.m. on Monday and from 9-11 a.m. on Tuesday at the Nelson & Vial Funeral Home chapel.
Memorial donations may be made to Faith Bible Church’s Awana Club.
Arrangements are under care of the Nelson & Vial Funeral Home.

Inez Herrig

Longtime Libby resident and retired librarian Inez Ratekin Herrig, 94, died on Dec. 26, 2004, at her home.
Born on April 30, 1910, at Libby, to Libby pioneer Samuel G. Ratekin and his wife Winifred, Inez lived in Libby for most of her life.
A graduate of Libby High School with the Class of 1926, Inez left Libby briefly to study at the University of Washington, returning to serve as county librarian for 60 years, retiring in 1989.
Through the years, Inez was involved in community service in areas that included the work of the Libby Woman’s Club, where she served at the local, state and national levels.
She helped start a community concert series, taught piano for many years and was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church and the Libby Ski Club.
Inez married Robert (Bob) Herrig on Oct. 24, 1953, at Libby.
Bob and Inez, working together, were the driving force behind the Heritage Museum.
Survivors include a cousin, Margaret Wenk, Spokane; nieces Frieda Miller, Monarch, Naomi Burkgart, Osbourne, Idaho, and nephews Herbert Wilke, Fortine and Neal Wilke, Whitefish.
Visitation will be from 1-8 p.m. on Wednesday at the Nelson & Vial Funeral Home chapel.
Services will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Thursday at the First Presbyterian Church with Pastor Wallace Smith officiating, followed by interment at the City of Libby cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church or the Heritage Museum.

Ruby Johnson

Ruby N. Wood Johnson, 81, a former county resident, died on Oct. 27, 2004, at Gresham, Ore.
Ruby was born on Aug. 1, 1923, to Clarence (Pete) and Elsie Moore Wood, at their home in Pinkham Creek.
Her grandparents were among the early homesteaders in Pinkham Creek.
Ruby grew up in the Eureka area where she married Vernon Gary and had seven children.
After Vernon died Ruby married Harry Johnson and they had a child.
Ruby was also preceded in death by her parents, sister Lillian O’Brian Wolf, and brothers Clarence (Sonny) Wood and Buddy Logsdon.
Survivors include brother Joey Logsdon, Portland, Ore; sister Una Mae Brown in Iowa; children Steve and Nancy Gary, Libby; Judy and Ray Gendron, Gresham, Rosco Gary, Redding, Calif., Ron and Sammie Gary, Sisters, Ore., Dale and Stephanie Gary, Gresham, Karen Carter, Kalispell, Marvin Gary, Portland, Ore., and Millie Johnson Veselick, Oregon City, Ore., numerous grandchildren including Clay and Carnita Coker, Libby, Marc and Peggy McGill, Libby, Cliff and Stephanie Robertson, Marion, Marti Gary in Texas, and great-grandchildren including Courtni Coker in Texas, Colter, Hannah, Josiah, Jesse and Asa Coker; Steve Ashley and Levi Gary; and Kari Robertson, Libby, and Justin, Sadie, Uriah, Hava and Chara Robertson, Marion.
A memorial service was conducted on Nov. 1 in Gresham.

Bud Norvell

Karl A. (Bud) Norvell, 67, died on Tuesday, Dec. 21, 2004, at his home in Libby.
He was born on March 14, 1937, at Carsage, Mo., to Karl E. and Elizabeth (Betty) Norvell.
The family lived briefly in Southern California before moving to Montana where Bud attended school in the Clinton area.
He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1957, serving until his honorable discharge in 1961.
He married Rhea Davis on Sept. 19, 1959.
They lived at Turah before coming to Libby, their home for the past 43 years.
Bud was employed by the Montana State Highway Department from 1962 until his retirement in 1992 with 30 years of service, and continued to work for the department in a part-time capacity, assisting with winter snow plowing.
He had also worked as a seasonal employee of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Libby Dam for the past eight years.
An avid music lover, Bud also enjoyed carpentry, especially projects involving his grandchildren.
A member and trustee of Austin Reedy Post 97 of the American Legion, Bud was on the post’s firing squad ceremonial team.
Survivors include his wife Rhea, Libby; daughters Karla Norvell, Wheat Ridge, Colo.; Annamarie Norvell, San Ramon, Calif., and Marillee Brown and her husband Paul, Libby; step-brother Dick Barrett, Fresno, Calif.; grandchildren Kiernan and Cooper; sisters-in-law Barbara and her husband Earl Messick, Gina and Jerry Edgar and brother-in-law Bruce Davis and his wife Carnan, and numerous nieces, nephews and close friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Ron Norvell and infant twins.
Services will be conducted at1 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 27, at the Nelson & Vial Funeral Home chapel.
Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. on Sunday and from 9 a.m. until noon on Monday at the chapel.
Arrangements are under the direction of Nelson & Vial Funeral Home.

Jim Woodworth

James P. (Jim) Woodworth, 78, of Houston, Texas, died on Saturday, Dec. 18, 2004.
Jim was born on May 13, 1926, at Libby, to Pierre and Emma Holm Woodworth.
Jim grew up in Libby where his father was wood’s boss for J. Neils Lumber Company. He graduated from Libby High School with the Class of 1944.
Employed for 33 years as a computer programmer, Jim worked in Houston, Los Angeles and Seattle, where he married Bettie Canfield.
Jim and Bettie moved to Houston in 1978 and have been active members of Emmanuel Episcopal Church. They also devoted much of their time to the Aids Care Team and the Survivors of Suicide program.
preceded in death by his parents and his son Jay, Jim is survived by his wife Bettie Woodworth, Houston; son Ward Woodworth; daughter Maren Wade and daughter Louann Curlin and her husband Richard; brother Charles Woodworth and his wife Marge; grandsons Taylor Curlin and James Wade; granddaughters Sarah Curlin and Emma Wade; sister-in-law Maria Canfield and her four children, and dear friend Shirley Taylor and her children. Shirley and her late husband David have been constant friends for almost 50 years.
He is also survived by numerous other loving family members and friends.
A memorial service was conducted at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 21, at Emmanuel Episcopal Church, 15015 Memorial Drive, Houston, Texas 77079, with the Rev. Janie Kirt Morris officiating.
A reception followed at the church.
Memorials may be made to Emmanuel Episcopal Church.
Arrangements are under the direction of Forest Park Westheimer Funeral Home in Houston.

Helen Murray

Helen H. Murray, 92, died on Thursday, Dec. 9, 2004, at her home in Libby.
The longtime Missoula resident was preceded in death by her husband Thomas Murray in 2000.
Survivors include their children Terry Murray, Sacramento, Calif., Betty Bauer, Libby, John Murray, Boise, Idaho, and Trish Struck, Renton, Wash., nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Services were conducted at 11 a.m. on Tuesday at the Nelson & Vial Funeral Home.
