Cedric Reid

Cedric Jackson Reid, four months, died on Nov. 22, 2004, at Children’s Hospital in Seattle.
He was born on July 5, 2004, at Kalispell to James Reid and Maygen Daggett Reid of Somers.
Survivors include his parents, grandparents Dave and Charlotte Reid of Troy and Mark and Chris Daggett of Libby and great-grandparents Ida (Ike) Gehring of Libby and Alice Wilson of Venita, Ore.
Graveside services were conducted at 3 p.m. on Monday at Conrad Memorial cemetery in Kalispell with Pastor Eric Christiansen officiating.
Arrangements are by Nelson & Vial Funeral Home.

Alice Mae Brown

Former Libby resident Alice Mae Brown, 88, died Sept. 2, 2004, at Mercy Medical Center in Williston, N.D.
She was born on Jan. 30, 1916 at Culbertson, to Dugald and Mary Solomson Hagadone.
She married Herbert Brown on May 20, 1936. He preceded her in death on Oct. 9, 1970.
A restaurant cook and manager, Alice managed the Pine Cone Café at Libby from 1966-1968 and the café at the Riverside Inn 1971-1972.
Two of her children, Betty and Herbert, graduated from Libby High School, and Betty married Mike VanAlstine of Libby.
Survivors include sons Frosty Brown, Poplar and Herbert Brown Jr. and his wife Niki, Great Falls; daughters Mary Bloom, Sidney, Rosaline Smith, Powers Lake, N.D., Lorraine and her husband Roy Hatten, Orting, Wash., Donna Brown, Bonney Lake, Wash., Myrtle and her husband Reg DuMontier, Lake Havasu City, Ariz., Shirley and her husband Bruce Hatten, Federal Way, Wash., Betty and her husband Mike VanAlstine, Federal Way, and Dora Brown and her husband Roger Harison, Sidney.
Alice is also survived by 28 grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, sisters-in-law Ruby Hagadone, Nora Hagadone and Margaret Brown and brother-in-law Glen Brown.
In addition to her husband Herbert, Alice was preceded in death by her parents, six brothers, a sister, two granddaughters and three sons-in-law.
Services were conducted on Sept. 7, at St. John Lutheran Church in Poplar.
Interment followed in Poplar City cemetery.
Clayton Stevenson Memorial Chapel was entrusted with arrangements.

Earl Mueller

Earl Leslie Mueller, 74, of Libby, died at his home on Tuesday, Sept. 7, 2004.
He was born on May 30, 1930, at Harvey, N.D., to Leo and Thelma Lindemann Mueller.
He moved from North Dakota to Washington when he was two years old.
Earl graduated from Kitsap High School in 1948.
He enlisted in the U.S. Army in Oct. 20, 1948, and was honorably discharged on June 12, 1952.
Earl painted ships in the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard at Bremerton, Wash.
He married Peggy Cunningham on Feb. 14, 1987, at Bremerton.
Earl enjoyed working with wood and gardening. He moved to Libby in 1994.
preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and a sister, Earl is survived by his wife Peggy Mueller, Libby; sons Leo Mueller, Port Orchard, Wash., and Kris Mueller, Vacaville, Calif.; daughters Kathy Stamm, Santa Maria, Calif., and Connie Lovelace, Belfair, Wash.; brother Gary Mueller, Shelton, Wash., sister Enid Eytel, Bremerton, three stepsons, 15 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Services will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Saturday at the Nelson & Vial Funeral Home.

Juddie Pinson

Juddie (Joe) Pinson, 77, of Idaho Falls, Idaho, died at his home on Aug. 18, 2004.
Survivors include his wife Janice J. Pinson, his children Juddie J. Pinson Jr., Eureka, Floyd M. Pinson, Lake Oswego, Ore., and Jada J. Pinson, Eureka, 10 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Cremation took place at Coltran Mortuary in Idaho Falls.
At his request no service will be conducted.
Memorials may be made to Hospice.

Graydon Rasmussen

Graydon W. Rasmussen, 88, of Libby, died on Saturday, Aug. 28, 2004, at St. John’s Lutheran Hospital.
He was born on March 30, 1916, at Ottertail, Minn., to Alfred N. and Elsie M. Bramming Rasmussen.
He grew up and attended schools in Hayfield, Minn.
While in high school he played football and was named the team’s most valuable player.
After graduating from Hayfield High School in 1935 Graydon attended business college in Minneapolis.
He married Marie Oyen in 1940.
He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1942, serving on the aircraft carrier USS Tripoli.
Graydon moved to Libby in 1996.
He enjoyed carpentry.
preceded in death by his parents, his wife Marie, a brother and a sister, Graydon is survived by three children, Kim Rasmussen, Minneapolis, Minn., Joni Rosencratz, Libby, and Ann Mason and her husband Mark, also of Libby; brother Harry Rasmussen in Minnesota, and grandchildren Peter, Kevin, Marie, Jay, Julie Ann and Josiah.
Private family services will be conducted at a later date.
Local arrangements are by Nelson & Vial Funeral Home.

Kathy Wells

Former Libby resident Kathleen Diane (Kathy) Cassel Wells, 50, died on Aug. 16, 2004, at her home in Snoqualmie, Wash.
Kathy was born on April 28, 1954, at Libby, the fourth of the six children of Lloyd and Ellen Cassel
She was raised at Libby, attending Libby schools and graduating with the Class of 1972.
In December 1981 Kathy met soul mate Dave Wells and they were married on April 7, 1984, at Libby, where they lived and worked until moving to the Snoqualmie area in 1990.
Kathy will be remembered for her warm heart, love of family and friends and her love for animals.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Survivors include her husband Dave at Snoqualmie; brothers and sisters and their spouses, Sandy and John Wagner, Troy, David and Maggie Cassel, Newman Lake, Wash., Roger Cassel, Goldbeach, Ore., Laurie Cassel, Corvallis, Ore., Keith Cassel, Troutdale, Ore., seven nieces and nephews, five great-nieces and nephews and her beloved dog Chigar.
A private memorial service was conducted on Aug. 20, at Samamish, Wash.
The family suggests memorials be made to the Libby Volunteer Ambulance or Save the Dolphins at www.savedolphins.org,

Joan Brooks

Joan Brooks, 65, of Libby, died Tuesday evening, Aug. 3, 2004, at Kalispell Regional Medical Center.
She was born on Nov. 7, 1938, at Pottsdam, N.Y., to Glenn and Marion Wynne and was raised and educated at Pottsdam.
Joan married Ronald Brooks on June 29, 1960 at Pottsdam and they lived at various locations throughout the United States while Ronald worked construction.
They moved to Libby in 1965 and except for a short time in the Seattle area have lived here ever since.
Although confined to a wheelchair from age 18, Joan’s courage, faith and character allowed her to live life to the fullest, bearing and raising children and as a dedicated mother and wife.
She later attended the Lincoln County Campus of Flathead Valley Community College where she received an associate arts degree. She also attended the Bellevue Community Technical Institute in Washington state and worked as a volunteer at the Valley Medical Center there.
Joan’s courage and strength were an example to family and all who knew her.
She was preceded in death by daughter Karen in 1962.
She is survived by her husband Ron, Libby; her children Joyce Greer, Renton, Wash., and Joe Brooks, Libby; her sister Wilda VanderVoorden, Libby, brother Glenn Wynne Jr., Canton, N.Y., and her grandchildren Jeremy, Joanna, Johnathan and Darbi.
Services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. on Friday at the Church of the Nazarene, followed by interment services at the City of Libby cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Thursday at the Nelson & Vial Funeral Home.

Ted Christofferson

Ted Christofferson, 81, longtime Troy and Libby resident, died Aug. 3, 2004, at Holy Family Hospital in Spokane.
He was born on Feb. 9, 1923, at Kalispell, to Henning and Anna Christofferson.
Raised and educated at Columbia Falls and a graduate of Columbia Falls High School, Ted worked in the Washington coast shipyards in the early 1940’s.
He married Eva Trusty on July 29, 1942 at Everett, Wash.
Ted served with the U.S. Army in central Europe and northern France during World War II.
Following his honorable discharge, Ted and Eva returned to the Flathead Valley to live in the Half Moon area.
Ted worked as a skilled saw filer in several locations before coming to Troy in 1952.
He worked for the J. Neils Lumber Company, the St. Regis Paper Company and Champion International until retirement.
The Christoffersons moved to Libby in 1979 but traveled extensively while Ted did interim work as a filer.
He loved the outdoors and was an avid fisherman and hunter, enjoying the family cabin on Bitterroot Lake. He also had a real fondness for cars of all types.
A longtime member and past master of Troy Lodge No. 126, AF&AM, Scottish Rite Bodies, Algeria Shrine Temple and the Kootenai Valley Shrine Club, Ted also belonged to the Order of the Eastern Star.
He is survived by Eva, his wife of 62 years, at the family home in Libby; daughter Susan Gosney and her husband Chuck, Libby; brother Jack Christofferson, Polson; granddaughters Tiffany, Sonja and Amber and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by son David in 2003.
Services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Monday at the Nelson & Vial Funeral Home Chapel.
Memorials may be made to the Shriners Hospital for Crippled Children, Box 2472, Spokane, WA 99210-2472.

Jason Daniel Lucas

Jason Daniel Lucas, infant son of Jason and Ali Lucas, died on July 31, 2004, at St. John’s Lutheran Hospital.
In addition to his parents, Jason is survived by brother Tyler and sister Ciera.
He is also survived by grandparents Bill and Linda Colson, Bonnie and John Drews and Jerry and Lila Lucas, all of Libby and great-grandparents John and Kay Alex and Ella Hutchinson, also of Libby, and Loreen and Bob Detoro, Fairfield, Calif., and Floyd Lucas, Vancouver, Wash.
Family graveside services were conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the City of Libby cemetery under the care of Nelson & Vial Funeral Home.
The family express “all praise and glory to our Lord Jesus Christ who sustains us with strength and comfort during our time of need.”

Rick Nelson

Rick E. Nelson, 46, of Libby, died on Wednesday, July 28, 2004, at St. John’s Lutheran Hospital.
He was born on Nov. 22, 1957, at Libby, to Henry and Gwyneth Homann Nelson.
Rick grew up and attended school in Libby and graduated from Libby High School with the Class of 1976.
He excelled in basketball in high school and was named to the McDonalds All-American Team his senior year before attending the University of Montana on a basketball scholarship for three years.
He worked for Bob Wards of Missoula for a number of years before becoming a heavy equipment operator.
Rick operated heavy equipment at the Troy unit of Asarco, at Beatty, Nev., and Las Vegas.
He moved back to Libby in 2002 because of health problems.
Rick enjoyed fishing and woodworking.
Survivors include children Brittany Eileen Nelson, Las Vegas; Tyler Nelson, Escondido, Calif., and Ashiely Nelson, Las Vegas; brothers Robbie Nelson and his wife Jackie, Libby, and Randy Nelson and his wife Ellen, Amarillo, Texas; sisters Debbie Loomis and her husband John and Julie Spencer and her husband Jon, Liby; aunt Shirley Nelson and her husband Everett, Libby and uncle Pete Nelson and his wife Sandy, Libby; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Services were conducted at 11 a.m. on Monday at the Nelson & Vial Funeral Home.
Visitation was from 1-5 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home chapel.
