Janice R. Sigismond

Janice Roberta Sigismond, 68, of Hardin formerly of Libby, passed away March 24, 2008.
She was born May 23, 1939 in Chicago, Illinois a daughter of Carl and Adeline Williamson Anderson.
She was raised and received her education in Illinois. Following her education she worked for the Chicago Board of Trade and later wrote insurance policies.
Jan married Don Sigismond on Nov. 5, 1965 in Coeur d' Alene, Idaho and the couple made their home in Libby. Mr. Sigismond died in 2003 and Janice moved to Hardin.
Jan was an active mom who was a Cub Scout Den Mother for five years, volunteered and organized the McGrade School hot lunch program and was an active counselor with the Libby Women's Help Line for battered and abused women. She was part of the Combined Campaign telethon, hospital auxiliary, Honey Bee Homemakers and women's JC's, just to mention a few.
She was a member of the Lutheran Church and the Red Hat Ladies of Libby and Hardin. She enjoyed painting, art and craft, with her granddaughter Sammi, hanging out with grandson Quinn and talking and playing with her youngest grandson, Mathew.
Survivors include her son Lance and his wife Neta of Garryowen; her sister, Marilyn (Mike) Wartalski and her four beloved grandchildren, Quentin, Samatha, Mathew and Winter.
We want to thank the Heritage Acres, Kim Caprata and the Hardin Clinic staff for all of their loving care.
Visitation will be held 1:00 to 5:00 PM Friday in the Bullis Funeral Chapel. Funeral services were held on Saturday, March 29 in the Chapel. Cremation and private inurnment will follow the services.
Bullis Mortuary of Hardin has been entrusted with the arrangements.

Anna Stuhlreiter Griffith

Anna Stuhlreiter Griffith, 90, of Libby, died Thursday, May 8 at the Libby Care Center from natural causes.
She was born Aug. 14, 1917 in Libby, the third of five daughters of Joseph and Magdalena Poesing Stuhlreiter.
After her mother was widowed when “Annie” was just six years old, she took responsibility for helping raise her younger siblings. While growing up in Libby, Anna worked at the Kootenai Theater.
After graduating from Libby High School in 1935, Anna attended Northwestern Business College in Spokane, Wash.
Talented in business, Anna held positions at the First State Bank of Libby, the Utah Construction Company of Alaska, and E.W. Elliott Construction and the Kenworth Motor Truck Company in Seattle.
It was while she was working at the bank in Libby that she met her future husband, Robert F. Griffith, a Washington native who was doing some mining in the area.
After their marriage in 1945, Anna made homes with Bob in Washington, North and South Carolina, West Virginia, and Virginia, where Bob worked as a mining engineer for the U.S. Bureau of Mines in Washington, D.C. and Anna was a homemaker and the consummate hostess.
Anna and Bob had one child, a son, James R. Griffith, who died in 1972 at the age of 18 as a result of an automobile accident.
The couple later retired to Camano Island, Wash., and after her husband’s death in 1986, Anna decided to move back to her hometown of Libby, where she spent the last years of her life and continued to share her generosity of spirit.
Anna was preceded in death by her husband Bob, her son Jim, and sisters Mary Kerkes, Elizabeth Grambauer, and Margaret Stuhlreiter.
Anna is survived by her sister Ellen Wilson of Missoula and numerous nieces and nephews.
The Nelson & Vial Funeral Home in Libby is in charge of arrangements, and at Anna’s request, no service will be held.

Michael W. Shriner

Michael W. Shriner, 49, died Friday in Missoula. He was born Feb. 28, 1958 in Libby to Ben and Donna Shriner and was raised and educated in Libby, graduating fron Libby High School in 1976.
He had resided in Kalispell for six years until coming to Missoula where he had lived for over the past 20 years.
After his arrival in Missoula, he met and married Sabrina; they were later divorced in 1990. While residing in Missoula, he worked at River House.
He is survived by his parents, Ben and Donna; his brothers, Ben Richard Shriner and his wife Susan, Joe Shriner and his wife Sue and Del Shriner; and his grandmother, Rachel Shriner, all of Libby; his uncles and aunts, Chuck Challinor and his wife Chris of Great Falls; Kay Davidson of the Phillipines; Elvira Orsborn of Libby and Bernice Palmer of Charlo; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Services will be at 1 p.m. on Thursday at the City of Libby cemetery.
Arrangements are by Nelson & Vial Funeral Homes & Crematory.

Scott O. Solem

Scott Owen Solem, 47, formerly of Libby, died at his home in Spokane, Wash. on Oct. 28, 2007.
Scott was born in Libby on Jan. 30, 1960. He was a role model to others with his heart of "(blue &) gold" and sincere concern for others.
Taking on the challenges of Cerebral Palsy in stride, he attended Libby schools and graduated from Libby High School in 1980.
Guided by his faith, he successfully used the most of his potential and thoughtfully remembered many special occasions. The foundation for his strong faith started in his youth when he attended Christ Lutheran Church, continued with his active participation in Emanuel Lutheran Church in Spokane and demonstrated through his exemplary personal character and citizenship.
While growing up, Scott was an enthusiastic supporter and attendee of Libby athletic teams; especially the LHS Loggers and any winning team.
Blessed with a superb memory, he could recall detailed specifics of many contests he observed.
His enthusiasm for sports was further demonstrated by his own personal achievements, which included being an early participant in Montana Special Olympics, riding his bike and swimming.

Joan Minette Hughes

Joan Minette Hughes, 87, passed away Jan. 1, 2008 at Brendan House in Kalispell.
Joan was born on Oct. 22, 1920 in Cut Bank, the eldest child of Dr. Carl and Emma Minette.
Joan graduated from Columbus School of Nursing in Great Falls in 1942. She began her nursing career at the hospital in Browning, and was commissioned in the U. S. Army as a 2nd Lieutenant in 1942. She was stationed at Ft. Lewis, Wash. and Prince Rupert, B.C., Canada. She later worked at Boulder Manor in Boulder, Colo., and was co-owner of the Imperial Hotel in Twin Falls, Idaho.
Joan volunteered at the Kalispell Hospital for 15 years. She belonged to the First Presbyterian's Women's and Naomi Circles; Stephen's Ministers with the First Presbyterian Church, served as a deacon and was awarded the Presbyterian Women's Honorary Life Member.
Joan was an avid reader and enjoyed traveling, gardening, family, cooking, friends and having tea and cookies with her neighbors.
Joan married Al F. Hughes in Cut Bank in 1945. They had 62 wonderful years together. Joan was a loving, caring mother who supported her children and grandchildren in all endeavors of their lives. She was a devoted military wife, moving the family around the United States and France.
She is preceded in death by her parents; sister, Ann (Diddy) Westermark Gulbrandsen of Great Falls; brother, Pat Minette of Cut Bank; and a great-grandchild, Brady Nelson of Scottsdale, Ariz.
Joan is survived by her husband, Al F. Hughes of Kalispell; children: Al and his wife Manon Hughes of Libby, Tom Hughes of Kalispell, Joe Hughes of Superior, Kathy and her husband Brad Asher of Twin Falls, Idaho, Minette Black and her husband Dan of Iowa City, Iowa; brother, Tom Minette and his wife Tina of Kalispell; sister-in-law Jean Minette of Big Timber; seven grandchildren: Colleen Asher of Boise, Idaho, Emily and Sarah Asher of Twin Falls, Michelle Owen of Seattle, Wash., Becky Nelson and her husband Tony of Scottsdale, Ariz., Bryan Black of Iowa City, Chelsea Sanderson and her husband Byron of Libby; great-grandchildren: Wyatt Annis of Twin Falls and Olivia Sanderson of Libby; nieces and nephews, Rita, Bob and Susan Westermark and Lori, Tim, Tom, Lena and Dani Minette.
Funeral services were held on Monday, Jan. 7 at the First Presbyterian Church with Pastor Glenn Burfiend officiating. Burial followed at Glacier Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers the family suggested memorial contributions be made to the Brendan House Scholarship Fund or to the First Presbyterian Church.
Buffalo Hill Funeral Home cared for the family.

Richard D. Taylor

Richard D. Taylor, 57, died March 26 at his home in Libby. Born to Richard F. Taylor and Opal James Taylor at Glendale, Calif. on June 1, 1950, he was raised and educated in the Idaho panhandle area and had remained in that area for most of his adult life, residing at Kingston for many years. He later had resided at Noxon until coming to Libby two years ago. He had a lifelong enjoyment of cars and motorcycles and had been a collector of classic cars during his life.
He is survived by his sons: Jerry Taylor of Albuquerque, N.M. and Robert Taylor of Libby; his grandchildren: Daniel and Matthew; a sister Kathy Taylor of St. Maries, Idaho; and a brother Randy Taylor of Kennewick, Wash. He was preceded in death by his parents.
A visitation for Taylor was held on Sunday at the Nelson & Vial Funeral Home in Libby. During that time, friends were invited to stop by the family home in Libby.

Holly J. Lang

Holly J. Lang, 68, of Libby died Tuesday, May 6, 2008 at her home in Libby from natural causes.
She was born June 19, 1939 in Orange, Calif. to Henry J. and Helen J. Smith Mortensen.
She grew up in Santa Ana, Calif. and graduated from Santa Ana High School in 1957.
She then attended Chapman College where she earned a four-year teaching degree.
She started her teaching career at Laguna Beach, Calif. where she taught for two years.
She then spent a year in Japan teaching on the Tachakawa Air Force Base.
She married Richard Lang on Aug. 12, 1967 at the St. John’s Lutheran Church in Santa Ana, Calif.
They started their married life in Kasson, Minn. From there they moved to Dubuque, Iowa. Their first ministry was at Grants Pass, Colo. at the Calvary Lutheran Church.
They lived in Grants Pass until the middle 1980s, when they moved to Salem, Ore. From Salem they lived in numerous place before coming to Libby in January 2007.
Holly enjoyed her grandchildren, scrapbooking and entertaining.
Survivors include her husband Richard of Libby; two children Kristin Camarena and her husband Joseph Jr. of Oakhurst, Calif. and John A. Lang of Seattle; brother Harold J. Mortensen and his wife Cheryl of Myrtle Point, Ore.
Services were held on Saturday, May 10, 2008 at the Assembly of God Church in Libby.
Local arrangements are by the Nelson & Vial Funeral Home in Libby.

Archie H. Lucht

Archie H. Lucht, 86, died of natural causes Wednesday, May 7 at Benefis Hospital in Great Falls.
Archie was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia, his brother, Robert, and his daughter-in-law, Jerrie.
Archie is survived by two sisters, Margaret and Dorothy; his two children Lindy Lucht Farrell and her husband Dick of Great Falls and his son Robin Lucht of Helena; grandchildren Sherri Houston and her husband Greg, Jacinda Hendricks and her husband Ken, Heather Levandowski and her husband Dan, Todd Farrell and his wife Amy, Jason Lucht, Tina Crum and her husband Todd; great-grandchildren Harston, Davis, MacKenzie, Kevin, Zach, Kayleigh and Tyler.
He was born in Saco, Mont. on Oct. 13, 1921 to Emil and Katherine Blue Lucht.
He was educated in Montana schools. He married Virginia Robinson in 1941 and enlisted in the U.S. Navy during the Second World War. He served as a Seabee in the Pacific Theater.
After WWII, Archie graduated from Montana State College with a Bachelor’s Degree in secondary education and from the University of Montana with a Masters in education.
Archie had many jobs over the course of his life. He worked as a park ranger in Glacier National Park, as a member of the border patrol in San Diego, and as a customs agent on the Canadian border. Archie was particularly proud of his work in the education field.
He was a lifelong educator and retired as principal of Helena Junior High after a career that included Opheim, Belgrade, Troy and Libby.
Archie was a staunch Republican and served as executive secretary for the Party. He was extremely proud to have been a member of the Electoral College for Montana.
Archie was a masterful storyteller and enjoyed regaling his family and friends with stories of his life. He often started his recollections with “I might have told you this story before...” These stories will be remembered fondly by many generations.
Archie was proud to be a lifelong member of the Masons and the Shriners.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Shriner’s Children’s Hospital or the donor’s choice.
Family services and interment for Archie and Virginia will be held this summer in the Kalispell area.

Cynthia Lester

Cynthia Renee Lester, 39, died Oct. 14, 2005 in Minot, N.D., due to complications of diabetes.
Born July 24, 1966, in Kalispell, Cindy was raised and educated in Libby and graduated with the Class of 1985.
She lived in various cities throughout Montana before moving to Minot in 1991. She later attended Minot State University where she received a bachelor's degree of science in social work in 1998.
Cindy loved being outdoors whether it be riding her bicycle, throwing horseshoes, fishing or camping. She was also an avid reader of Stephen King novels.
Always an optimist, Cindy was able to focus on the positive and make light of her adversities through humor and a contagious smile. She will be deeply missed by all of those who were blessed to have known her kind, gentle and giving nature.
She is survived by her father, Thomas Lester, Sidney; sister, Terri Ammons, Cheyenne, Wyo.; three nieces, Connor, Madison and McColloh Lamorie, Cheyenne; childhood friend, Donald Kaeding of San Francisco; close friend and companion, Larry Bruhn, Minot, and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
Her mother, Ruth, preceded her in death in February 2003.
Memorial services were held on Thursday, Oct. 20, at the Zion Lutheran Church in Fairview with Pastor Rick Green officiating. Musical selections were provided by Ellen Croy. Interment of cremains will be in the Yellowstone Point cemetery in Cartwright, N.D., under the direction of Fulkerson Funeral Home of Sidney.

Mary Doubek

Mary B. Doubek, 67, of Libby, died Friday, Feb. 2, 2006, at her home from natural causes.
She was born on Oct. 18, 1938, in Pawnee, Okla., to Orpha and Lavinia Drake. She spent her early years at the Crow Reservation in eastern Montana.
She spent most of her life in Libby, where she grew up and attended school. She graduated from Libby High School in 1956. While in high school she worked at the A&W; for a number of years.
She married Ron Doubek on April 10, 1957, in Libby. She had also worked for St. Regis Paper Co. for 10 years and Big Sky Power Equipment for 10 years. She enjoyed painting and bowling.
A brother, Wilbur, preceded her in death.
Survivors include her children Joel Doubek and Gary Doubek of Libby and Renee Tracy of Ogden, Utah; brothers Joel Drake of Augusta, Ga., Perry Drake of Wichita Falls, Texas, and Robert Drake of California; 10 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 9, at the Nelson & Vial Funeral Home.
