Josephine Laura Blumberg Loewen

MISSOULA - Josephine Laura Blumberg Loewen died at the age of 46 early on the morning of Jan. 7 of hypothermia in a tragic accident on Highway 200 near Potomac.

She was born in Lincoln, Neb., on July 8, 1954, and came to Missoula with her parents at age 2. She attended Lewis and Clark Elementary School and Sentinel High School, graduating in 1972. She earned a bachelor of arts degree in philosophy from the University of Montana in 1994.

Her marriage of 10 years to Larry Loewen of Missoula ended in divorce.

She served for a time as a Missoulian photographer and in recent years dealt in fine collectibles at the Missoula Antique Mall. Josephine was a charitable spirit who especially loved animals, nature and her family.

She is survived by three sons, Laramie Dean Loewen, Kiam Austin Loewen and Adam Henry Loewen, all of Missoula; parents Lynne S. Blumberg of Missoula and Nathaniel Blumberg of Bigfork; stepmother Barbara Farquhar Blumberg of Bigfork; sisters Janet Leslie Blumberg of Bothell, Wash., and Jenifer Lyn Blumberg of Missoula; niece Ari Loeb and nephews Asher Loeb and Aram Loeb of Missoula, Caleb Knedlik of Bothell, Wash., and Jared Rapp and Frank Loewen of Missoula.

A memorial service for family and friends will be held at a later date. Arrangements are under the care of Garden City Funeral Home and Crematory.

Claude Emery English

MISSOULA - Claude Emery English, 88, of Missoula, died of natural causes Sunday, Jan. 7, 2001, at Community Medical Center.

He was born Aug. 12, 1912, in Cusick, Wash., to Joseph and Sylvia English. On Nov. 6, 1938, he married Marian Brooke in Toppenish, Wash.

Claude worked for Lincoln Washington Lumber Co. for 17 years. He moved to Montana in 1955 and to Polson in 1958.

He retired in 1976 after working 18 years for Plum Creek Timber Co. in Pablo.

Claude attended numerous schools in Washington and Missoula County High School for one year. He graduated from high school in Clarkston, Wash., as valedictorian.

He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Ruth Ann Wachsmith, two brothers and two sisters.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Marian English; son Robert English; a brother and his wife; a sister-in-law; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Graveside funeral services will be 1 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 11, at Sunset Memorial cemetery. The Rev. Dan Dixson will officiate.

Arrangements are under the care and direction of Garden City Funeral Home and Crematory.

Donald Lee Croskrey

MISSOULA - Donald Lee Croskrey died at Missoula Manor on Saturday, Jan. 6, 2001.

He was born in Missoula on Feb. 19, 1930, the son of O. Karl and Ida (Koenig) Croskrey. Don lived his life in Missoula, where he attended local schools and was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church. When he was a high school junior, Don was hurt in an accident that affected the rest of his life.

He worked at Dixon & Hoon as a shoe salesman and at the Bonner mill. After he stopped working, he continued to reside with his parents at 332 Blaine until recently when he moved to Missoula Manor.

Don liked to fish and visited with many people as he fished from the Higgins Avenue Bridge. He liked his bicycle and could be seen riding his three-wheeler around town. He also had a vegetable garden at the family home. In his younger days he enjoyed water skiing, goose hunting and duck hunting in the Bitterroot, and painting animals and landscapes.

He is survived by his mother Ida Croskrey at the Riverside Health Care Center; sister Ruth and brother-in-law Jesse Long of Helena; niece Laurie Howell, husband Lyle and children Ryan and Lacy of Bozeman; nephew Marc Long and wife, Tracy, of Kennewick, Wash., and their children Cheridy and Amasius Aduviri of Berrien Springs, Mich., and Corey and wife, Heather Long, of Spokane; and nephew Gary Long and wife, Maggie, of Helena.

Don's father preceded him in death.

Friends are invited to a memorial service at 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 12, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 202 Brooks St. Pastor David Ophus will preside.

Memorials may be made to the Epilepsy Foundation or to St. Paul's Lutheran Church.

Arrangements are under the care of Garden City Funeral Home and Crematory.

Lillian L. Fields

MISSOULA - Lillian L. Fields, 83, of Missoula, died Sunday, Jan. 7, 2001, at Hillside Manor nursing home.

She was born Oct. 12, 1917, in Worland, Wyo., a daughter of Edward and Kathryn Clark. She lived most of her life in Billings and was married to Charles Fields for 55 years. He preceded her in death in 1990.

Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Eva Lou and Jerry Stephens of Missoula; two sons, Richard of Hot Springs and Roger of Great Falls; brothers Walter and Don Clark of Worland, and Ed Clark of Anchorage, Alaska; eight grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of Garden City Funeral Home and Crematory.

Lynn Keith Milliron

FLORENCE - Lynn Keith Milliron, 84, of Florence, passed away of natural causes Saturday, Jan. 6, 2001, at Village Health Care Center in Missoula.

He was born Dec. 31, 1916, in Helena, the third child of George and Margurette Sullivan Milliron. Lynn was raised and educated in Lincoln.

In 1944 he married Wilma Smithman. They spent many years together raising their two sons, Skip and Doug. They were divorced in 1973. In 1978 he married Margaret Brown.

In his youth he served in the Civilian Conservation Corps and mined. He went into ranching and later bought and sold several ranches in western Montana. Dad was an accomplished horseman and used his skills to break many horses. He also used his building construction knowledge to earn a living.

He enjoyed rodeos, the Chicago Cubs and belonging to the Independent Order of Odd Fellows. As a member of the IOOF, he was a past grand patriarch. He served in many capacities in both the Rebekahs and Odd Fellows.

He is survived by his wife Margaret; son Doug Milliron of Laurel; stepson Warren "Skip" Smithman of Indiana; stepdaughter Margaret Lawrence of Florence; two brothers, Robert of Helena and Lawrence of Idaho; sister Dorothy Carter of Helena; grandsons Brent and Clint Milliron; stepgrandsons Johnny, Warren and Ed Smithman, and John, Chuck and Matt Miller; and many great-grandchildren, nephews and nieces.

Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 13, at the Odd Fellows Lodge, 217 N. Higgins Ave.

Per Mr. Milliron's wishes, memorials may be made to the Odd Fellows or to a charity of the donor's choice.
