Ralph L. Botts
CUSTER - Goodbye, Ralph. We, your many friends and relatives knew you as a dear, sweet man with a heart of gold. You cared for everyone in your own special way. You were one of a kind which extends beyond duplication. Your family and host of friends will greatly miss you, and you will always be in our hearts.
"His grass green, cattle fat, woodpile and haystacks high, Ralph L. Botts went to plow new fields and ride new ranges on Friday, June 12, 1998. He was at home on his beloved ranch north of Custer. That is where he was happiest and where he wanted to be."
Ralph was born on Jan. 29, 1913, in Knox County, Township of Lyon, in the State of Missouri, a son of Charles E. and Alta May Botts. He was preceded in death by his wife, Sarah (Bergeson) Botts in 1987. He is survived by two stepsons, James Bergeson and his wife, Irene, and their sons, David, and Brian and his wife, Deborah; Alton E. Bergeson and his wife, Margaret, with their children, Denise Ann, Gary and Kevin. Yes, he would want us to mention also Mike, Molly, Stripes, Snoopy and Squeaky, nearly always at his feet, and his friends who visited will know who they are.
Ralph achieved what few of us are able to achieve. His work was his hobby. His ambition was always only to steward a place of his own - to spend his life dedicated to his work until his work was done, in full charge of his own domain, with full ability, in his own independent way - until he was no longer able, only because as is said, "He died with his boots on." So while we your friends will miss you and mourn your passing, we will cherish your memory, and know that for you there is happiness in God's care.
Consider if you will, this, Ralph's legacy and epitaph.
"A man can do nothing better than eat, drink, and find satisfaction in his work . . ." (Eccl. 2:24 New Int'l Version). "As he came forth from his mother's womb so shall he return, and take nothing away with him of his labor." (Eccl. 5:14). "Cast thy bread upon the waters, for after many days you will find it again." (Eccl. 11:1)
Honoring Ralph's request, there will be no memorial services.
