George Keith Freeman
George Keith Freeman, 65, of Billings, passed away June 9, 1998. He was born on March 11, 1933, in Washoe, Mont., to William J. Freeman and Helen Campbell Freeman. He was raised in the Red Lodge and Billings area.
He graduated from Billings Senior High School in 1951. George attended college in Washington State and served in the U.S. Army as a construction draftsman with the 18th Engineer Brigade, Fort Leonard Wood, Mo.
George was a master craftsman/carpenter throughout the U.S. primarily in the Billings and surrounding areas. His craftsmanship and innovative techniques were well respected by his peers and colleagues.
He was a born again Christian and member of the Evangelical Methodist Church. He had a great love for travel and enjoyed sharing family history with his children.
George married Zene Johnson in 1958. Survivors include two children George Michael Freeman, 33 and wife Jennifer Nivens Freeman of Okinawa, Japan, and Kelly Kathleen Hansen, 31 and husband Mark Hansen of Billings. Three grandchildren Chayla, Alicia and Michael. By nieces Sally and Connie and by both a close friend and nephew William R. Freeman.
He was preceded in death by both parents, a brother and a sister.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 13, at 10 a.m. at Smith's Funeral Chapel downtown. Interment will be at Roscoe cemetery following the service.

Percy L. Page
TYLER, Texas - Percy L. Page, 89, a former resident of Sheridan, Wyo., passed away Tuesday, June 9, 1998, in Mother Frances Nursing Home in Tyler.
Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Friday, June 12, in the Sheridan Municipal cemetery. Champion Funeral Home of Sheridan is in charge of arrangements.

Ethel 'Jean' Gross
GARDINER - Memorial services for Ethel "Jean" Gross, 61, of Gardiner, will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 13, in the chapel of Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home in Miles City, with interment in the family lot in the Custer County cemetery, also in Miles City. Cremation has taken place.
Frances Mapes
COLUMBUS - Frances Mapes, 94, of Columbus, passed away Sunday, June 7, 1998, after a short illness.
In accordance with her wishes, no services are planned. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Smith Funeral Chapel-Columbus handled the arrangements.

Arthur W. Anstett
BIG TIMBER - Arthur W. Anstett, born March 16, 1915, on a homestead near Grass Range to Charles Henry and Mary Rappe Anstett, died June 9, 1998, in the Pioneer Medical Center in Big Timber.
On Dec. 21, 1967, he married Dolores Wallrich Fahey, his wartime sweetheart, in Billings. After graduating from Grass Range High School he held a drafting position with McDonnell/Douglas aircraft and was then drafted into the army where he served in an anti-aircraft unit in the Pacific during WWII. He returned to Billings to work as a building contractor. He took great pride in craftsmanship and left his legacy in many homes. In 1971, he and Dolores (Dee) built their retirement home on the Boulder River south of McLeod where they lived until 1996. They joined the snowbirds in 1986, enjoying winters in sunny Arizona. They were active in the Gila Mountain United Methodist Church, Yuma, Ariz.
Arthur enjoyed a passion for always wanting to "invent a better mousetrap." If he wasn't planning it in his mind, he was in the shop building it!
Arthur's loyalty to family and friends knew no bounds and will be long remembered. He took such joy in reminiscing about hunting trips, army buddies, construction projects and being raised on a homestead.
Arthur was a member of the Scottish Rite of Freemasonry and belonged to Doric Lodge in Big Timber. He belonged to the Al Bedoo Temple of Billings.
He is survived by his wife, Dee; niece, Donna Green McKamy and husband, Richard of Billings; grandniece, Vonnie Richards of Phoenix, Ariz.; a nephew and a cousin.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and a brother.
Memorial services will be held on Saturday, June 13, at 11 a.m. at First Congregational Church, 402 Anderson, Big Timber. Cremation has taken place at Cremation or Funeral Gallery.

Judith Rae Wildman
WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS - Judith Rae Wildman, 58, passed away Saturday, June 6, 1998, at her residence in White Sulphur Springs of an apparent heart attack.
She was born on April 11, 1940, in Billings to Henry and Dorothy Paustian Brockschmidt. She graduated from school in Sheridan, Wyo., and was looking forward to her 40th class reunion. Judy moved to White Sulphur Springs in 1970. She married Harley Wildman on Nov. 3, 1971, in Livingston. He preceded her in death on Nov. 9, 1995.
Judy was a rancher and worked as a dispatcher for the Meagher County Sheriff's Office and also worked at Arrowhead Golf Course. She loved to cross-stitch.
She was preceded in death by her father and sister, Shirley Ann Brockschmidt. Survivors include her mother, Dorothy Hayes of White Sulphur Springs; two sons, Robert Mueller of Rodeo, Calif., John Mueller of Apache Junction, Ariz.; one daughter, Beth Hunt of White Sulphur Springs; half-brother, Jerry Brockschmidt of Billings; half-sister, Kathy Bangert of Sioux Falls, S.D.; three grandchildren, Joel, Lorinda and Sara Hunt.
Funeral services were Thursday, June 11, 1998, at Twichel Funeral Home with Rev. Dean Sandberg officiating. Interment was in Mayn cemetery.

Ruth Farr
Ruth Farr, age 91, of Billings, died Tuesday, June 9, 1998, at St. Vincent Hospital & Health Center.
She was born March 23, 1907, at Novinger, Mo., the daughter of Everett and Mabel (Bragg) Farr. She was raised in Missouri and in 1921 moved with her parents to a farm near Reed Point, where she lived until 1940.
Ruth worked at the Mouat Mine near Nye, then lived at Cody, Wyo., and moved to Los Angeles, Calif., where she worked in the laundry business. She moved to Billings in 1972.
Ruth is survived by a sister, Opal Kautter of Sheridan, Wyo., and a cousin, Everett Farr and his wife, Lila of Kirksville, Mo.
Ruth's wishes were not to have any services. Burial of her cremated remains will be at the Reed Point cemetery. Smith's Downtown Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Audrey I. Moffet
Audrey I. Moffet, 74, passed away on June 9, 1998, at Deaconess Hospital in Billings. She was born April 6, 1924, in Swift Current, Saskatchewan, Canada, the daughter of Anne and Arthur Nelson. She was raised and attended school in Big Timber, graduating in 1943.
She married Willard J. Moffet on Sept. 14, 1947, in Livingston. During 50 years together they raised four children.
She worked many years in retail clothing for S&L's, Nikola's, Silhouettes, Herberger's, and was working part-time at Conrad's.
Survivors include her husband; two sons, Bill (Kathy) of Moscow, Idaho, Dean of Billings; and two daughters and one stepdaughter, Nicki (Jim) Logan of Billings, Cara (Dennis) Sacry of Harlowton, and Deanna (Ray) Anderson of Kelseyville, Calif.; and five grandchildren.
Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, June 12, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 10th St. West and St. Johns. Memorials may be made to the charity of one's choice.
Audrey was a good wife and loving mother. We will all miss her!

Percy L. Page
TYLER, Texas - Word was received that Percy L. Page, longtime resident of Laurel, Mont., passed away June 9 in Tyler.
Mr. Page was born in Sheridan, Wyo., on the 2nd of April, 1909. He married Eunice Butterfield on July 25, 1926, in Sheridan and continued to reside in Sheridan until 1942. They moved to Seattle, Wash., during WWII, with a brief stay in California then moving to Laurel in 1947.
Percy went to work for the Northern Pacific Railroad until his retirement in 1974. Percy was co-owner along with Eunice of the Page Dairy Way. Eunice preceded him in death in 1994. He resided in Laurel until 1995 when he moved to Texas to live with his daughter and son-in-law, Anita and Paul Gabel.
He is survived by his daughter, Anita and son-in-law, Paul Gabel of East Texas; three grandchildren, Blake and Dru Gabel of Arlington, Mark and Debbie Gabel of Little Rock, Ark., and Kelly Gabel Tolfa and Michael Tolfa of North Richland Hills, Texas; as well as five great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held on Friday, June 12, with internment at the Sheridan Municipal cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested a donation be made to either the American Diabetes Association or the Humane Society.

Arlene E. Huber Johnston
POPLAR - Arlene E. Huber Johnston, loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, and grandmother, went home to be with her Lord on June 9, 1998, at the Poplar Community Hospital in Poplar.
Arlene was the daughter of Alexander Huber and Willimina Entzel Huber. She was born north of Dodge, N.D., on Feb. 6, 1937. She graduated from Dodge Public School and attended one year of Dickinson State College. Arlene married Donald W. Johnston on Oct. 4, 1957, in Bismarck, N.D.
Arlene had a love for children and worked at the Poplar Public Schools for 20 years. She enjoyed crocheting, embroidering, reading her Bible, but her biggest joy were her 10 grandchildren.
Arlene was preceded in death by her parents, two infant brothers, a sister, and her great-grandson, Hunter Lewis Gobbs Johnston.
She is survived by her husband; her children, Maury (Julie) Johnston of Billings, Suzette (Rob) Niereath of Worden, D'Wayne (Kim) Johnston of Wolf Point, Shane (Kjersti) Johnston of Billings; grandchildren, Jennifer, Shawna, Krista, Lindsay An'juli, Mallory, Halley, Michael, Gary and Katie; brothers, Art (Elaine) Huber and Rolly (Vonnie) Huber of Bismarck; and a sister, Lorraine (Albert) Ehli of Dickinson, N.D.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, June 13, at St. John Lutheran Church in Poplar, with Rev. Audrey LaPore officiating. Visitations will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, June 12, at the Clayton Memorial Chapel in Poplar. Interment will be at the Gobbs Family cemetery in Culbertson.

A million times we missed you, and million times we cried.

To the grave we travel, the flowers are placed with care.

Charles W. Saunders
August 16, 1956-May 26, 1998
Charles W. Saunders, Billings resident for the last 10 years and employee of Weissman's, passed away May 26, 1998. He is survived by his son, Samuel W. Saunders of Tampa, Fla.; parents, Herschel and Gertrude Saunders of Prescott, Ariz.; sister, Wilda Saunders Postel and brother, Wendell Saunders; as well as members of the Gillespie and Edwards families of Tucson, Ariz.
Charles loved music, books and all sports, especially basketball, softball and baseball.
A memorial service will be held at Riverfront Park near Ramada 9 at 7 p.m. on Monday, June 15. Those in attendance are asked to bring their own chairs.
The family greatly appreciates the concern and visits of his friends during the month Charles was hospitalized. In Charles' name, contributions may be made to Randy Petersen for the Billings Little League organization or to the I.C.U. Waiting Room Fund campaign at St. Vincent's Hospital.

Albert L. Bomar
FROMBERG - Albert L. Bomar, 95, of Fromberg, went home to God on Tuesday, June 9, 1998. He was born Feb. 26, 1903, to Bert Walter Bomar and Mary Weber Bomar at Fromberg. He grew up in Fromberg and lived on the family farm his entire life. He worked for the Orchard Canal for 30 years or more and was the community veterinarian in the Clarks Fork Valley.
Albert enjoyed life. His favorite pastime was playing jokes on his friends. In his early years, he and his brothers played music for the school house and barn dances, and always had a story to tell about the "good old days."
On Feb. 21, 1925, he married Mamie Ward in Red Lodge and together they had four children.
Albert was preceded in death by his parents, wife, a son and grandson, as well as four brothers, four sisters, and many nieces and nephews.
He is survived by two daughters, Mildred Cook and her husband, Neil of Huntley and Irene Graham of Billings; a son, Irvin Bomar and his wife, Linda of Texas. Albert had 14 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, and 14 great-great-grandchildren.
Albert loved all children and they loved him. He will be missed by his many friends and family.
He has gone on to a better place and is probably "breaking open a keg of nails" to get things going. Good bye Albert, Dad, and Grandpa!
Graveside services will be held 2 p.m. Friday, June 12, 1998, at Rockvale cemetery. Smith Funeral Chapel-Laurel was in charge of arrangements.

Lela E. Hall
SIDNEY - Lela E. Hall, age 98, of Sidney, and formerly of Wibaux, died on Monday, June 8, 1998, at the Sidney Health Center Extended Care Facility in Sidney. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 11, 1998, at the Christian Fundamental Church in Wibaux with Pastor Jerry Mayer officiating. Interment will be in the Dawson Memorial cemetery in Glendive. Silvernale-Silha Funeral Home of Glendive is entrusted with arrangements.
Lela was born on April 26, 1900, in Pequot, Minn., to Calvin and Effie Cruikshank. At the age of 12, she traveled with her parents and three sisters in a covered wagon from Iowa to Montana. Lela was employed as a railway telegrapher during World War I and World War II, working at various Montana locations between Miles City and Wibaux, meeting Guy Hall in Marsh. They were married on Dec. 25, 1920, in Glendive and later lived in Beach and Sentinel Butte, N.D., before moving to Wibaux, where they made their home for 30 years in the apartment above the Northern Pacific Depot in Wibaux. After retiring from the railroad in 1960, they continued to make their home in Wibaux and were active members of the Christian Fundamental Church. After Guy's death in 1970, Lela spent time visiting with her many friends and family. She was active in the Senior Citizen's group, as well as the Wibaux Garden Club. She especially enjoyed traveling by train to visit her sisters and grandchildren throughout the United States and took numerous tours that included Nashville, Alaska, Hawaii and Europe. For the past two-and-a-half years, Lela has enjoyed the company of countless new friends made while a resident at the Extended Care Unit of Sidney Health Center in Sidney. Over the years, Lela was well known for her collection of owls, miniature silver spoons, and blue ribbons won at the county fair. Her hobbies included baking, knitting, crocheting, flower gardening, making crafts and playing board games, especially Scrabble and Bingo. Lela "Gramma Hall" was loved by many and will be missed by all those who knew her.
Lela is survived by her sons, Guy Hall and his wife, Virginia of Dickinson, N.D., and Bob Hall of Sidney; two sisters, Katherine Rigby and Mabel Latsha; 11 grandchildren, Roberta Hall Harper of Sidney, Linda Hall Booher and her husband, Rich of San Antonio, Texas, Rebecca Hall of Albuquerque, N.M., Deborah Hall Zins and her husband, Robert of Spokane, Wash., Brad Hall and his wife, Po of Albuquerque, Kris Hall Engstrom and her husband, Larry of Reno, Nev., Diane Hall Whiting of Dickinson, Don Hall and his wife, Paulette of Liverpool, N.Y., Doug Hall and his wife, Randi of Minot, N.D., Debbie Hall Stuhler and her husband, Eric of St. Charles, Mo., and Donna Mae Hall Filkowski of Fort Collins, Colo.; and Lela's special friend, Dee Elletson of Sidney; 37 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren; and three nieces and their families of College Place, Wash.
Lela was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Jessica.
