Ernest F. Queen
CLYDE PARK - Ernest F. Queen, 86, of Clyde Park, died Friday, July 10, 1998, at the Livingston Memorial Hospital.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday, July 14, at the Shields River United Methodist Church in Clyde Park, with committal and burial in Mountain View cemetery in Livingston. Franzen-Davis Funeral Home in Livingston is in charge.

Harold J. Sorenson
PLENTYWOOD - Harold J. Sorenson, 86, of Plentywood, died Friday, July 10, 1998, at his home of an apparent heart attack.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 14, at the First Congregational Church in Plentywood, with interment at Plentywood Memorial cemetery.

Stanley J. Tooke
VACAVILLE, Calif. - Stanley J. Tooke, 85, of Vacaville, formerly of Custer, Mont., passed away June 2, 1998, of Alzheimer's.
Mr. Tooke was born Jan. 19, 1913, in Outlook, Mont. He was raised at Outlook, graduating from high school there in 1933. He attended Billings Polytechnic Institute (now Rocky Mountain College) graduating with the class of 1938. He was an outstanding athlete. While at Rocky, he lettered in football, basketball, baseball and track all four years. He was later inducted into the Rocky Mountain College Athletic Hall of Fame.
Stanley was an educator and school principal for 34 years. His first job was coaching and teaching at Custer. He taught at Whitehall, Mont., Lakeview, Ore., and Castro Valley Unified School District in California.
He was a member of the Vacaville Moose Lodge No. 861, the local chapter of S.I.R.S. and was very active in the community.
Stanley is survived by five sons, Michael, Jim, Bob, John and Jeff; and daughter, Daphne; and brother Bill of Chandler, Ariz., plus his devoted friend Ruth von Berg of Vacaville.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Harriet; and son, Thomas.

Percy Anderson Jr.
PHOENIX - Percy Anderson Jr., 45, died of natural causes on July 2, 1998, at his home in Phoenix.
Born on June 21, 1953, in Chicago, the eldest son of Percy Sr. and Martha Anderson, he was educated in Chicago, graduating from Englewood Public High School in 1971. Percy loved sports and participated in elementary and high school athletics and received an athletic scholarship to attend Rocky Mountain College in Billings, playing both football and baseball. He attended classes in the day and would work the night shift at the Post Office to help pay for tuition.
Percy remained in Billings for 22 years, staying active in slow pitch softball and was instrumental in organizing the Spoilers team, which participated in the City Softball League for five years. He was also an avid bowler ready to challenge his buddies to a ten-pin contest.
In 1996, he moved to Phoenix where he rounded out a 25-year career with the U.S. Postal Department at the time of his death. His supervisors knew him as a dedicated employee who never missed a shift and his many friends cherished him as a happy, smiling "bear of a man" who cared about everyone he met. His daughter Jessica loved him for being a devoted father and knows she was the light of his life. His mother will remember him always as a loving son.
Percy's father and a grandmother preceded him in death and he is survived by his mother, Martha in Chicago, his daughter, Jessica in Tennessee, and two brothers, Charles in New Orleans, and James in Chicago. Numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins will mourn his death, as will his many friends.
Services for Percy will be held in Chicago at the Greater Canaan Baptist Church where he was a lifetime member. The Reverend Jesse Strong will officiate. Condolences and remembrances may be sent to the family home at 515 W. 59th St. in Chicago, IL 60621.

Lyle Arneson
BRIDGER - Lyle Arneson, 81 of Bridger, died Thursday, July 9, 1998, in Billings.
He was born at Sioux Pass, July 2, 1917, to Ben and Clara Lovely Arneson. Lyle was educated in area schools. He served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II. In 1944, he married Betty Daniels, and the couple farmed in the Grand and Cherry Creek areas of Richland County until 1958. The following years he worked for the Federal Aviation Agency and in 1966 moved to Billings, working as a building construction inspector for local architects and Boise Cascade Manufactured Housing.
His retirement years were spent on the Clark's Fork River pursuing the outdoor activities he enjoyed, digging ditches, building various sheds, moving dirt and rocks. This is how he spent his time on the river bank.
Survivors include his wife, Betty of Bridger; three children: Jim Arneson of Temecula, Calif., and his children, Pam, Nathan, Jennifer, and Jon-Tov; Deb Wohlgenant and her husband, Duncan of Malacca, Malaysia, and their children, Dan and Andy; and Tim Arneson of Billings and his children, Andrew, Leaf, Tyler and Elle; two brothers, James of Oklahoma and Robert of Girard Community near Sidney. Lyle was preceded in death by three sisters, Esther, Alice and Gladys.
Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Lone Butte cemetery, near Sidney.
Memorials may be made to the charity of one's choice.

Viola Bekes
Viola Bekes, 82 of Billings, formerly of Belvedere, Calif., passed away Friday, July 10, 1998, at Valley Health Care Center. The daughter of William and Gisella (Angelus) Schumucker, she was born in New York, N.Y., Aug. 31, 1915.
Viola was raised and educated in New York City and married Leslie Bekes. In 1954, the family moved to Tiburon, Calif., where they owned and operated a coffee shop until retirement. Leslie passed away in 1979. Viola's family was everything to her. She enjoyed traveling and had visited all over the world.
Survivors include her son, Robert Bekes and his wife, Linda of Kensington, Calif.; her daughter, Susan Buerkle and her husband, Richard of Park City; her two sisters, Edna Spector of San Rafael, Calif., and Elsie Dorman and her husband, Henry of Santa Rosa, Calif.; four grandchildren, Ira Cuelho of Big Timber, Eli Cuelho of Bozeman, Jeffrey Bekes of Oakland, Calif., and Laura Bekes of Kensington; and five great-grandchildren.
Cremation has taken place and memorial services and interment will be held in California. Should friends desire, memorials may be directed to the Park City Ambulance Service, P.O. Box 292, Park City, MT 59063. Michelotti, Sawyers & Nordquist Alderson Chapel has charge of local arrangements.

Helen Theresa Butler
LOVELL, Wyo. - Helen Theresa Butler, 85, died Wednesday, July 8, 1998, at New Horizons Care Center in Lovell.
A Wake service will be at 7 p.m. Monday, July 13, at Haskell Funeral Home in Lovell. Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 14, in the Lovell cemetery.

Robert Edwin Carruthers
BOUNTIFUL, Utah - Robert Edwin Carruthers, 66, of Bountiful, died Thursday, July 9, as the result of a car accident near Dillon, Mont.
Robert was a Master Mason of the Bonneville Lodge No. 31 in Bountiful as well as a Brother of the Scottish Rite of Free Masonry, S.J. in Salt Lake City. He enjoyed cooking, camping, traveling, puttering and fixing and making any and every thing he could with his hands. In his death he takes with him the love of so many friends and family and the millions of memories shared by all. He enters his new life truly as a millionaire.
He was born on Dec. 28, 1931, in Missoula. His parents, Finlay and Eleanor Carruthers preceded him in death, as well as his sister, Lois.
Robert and Shirley were married in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, on March 2, 1961. For 33 years, he worked for Farmer Brothers Co. as a salesman and a manager in Missoula, Billings and Salt Lake City.
Robert is survived by his wife, Shirley Jean of Bountiful; three daughters, Cynthia of Billings, Bettina of Boise, Idaho, and Ronda of Zagreb, Croatia; his sister, Betty Ruth of Green Acres, Wash.; six grandchildren, Rachel, Geoffrey, Jenny, Justin, Michelle and Fletch; one great-grandson, Charles William; his niece, Sharon; and three nephews, Gary, Mark and Daron; and one grandkitty, Katenka.
Memorial Services will be held Monday, July 13, at 11 a.m. at The Malletta Family of Funeral Homes, Squire Chapel at 3035 S. Russell, Missoula, with Rev. Gregory Karlsgodt officiating. The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, memorials in Robert's name be made to the American Heart Assn., 420 Blaine, Missoula, MT 59801.

Melba Dressler
Melba Dressler, 87 of Billings, passed away Wednesday morning, July 8, 1998, at St. Vincent's Hospital. The daughter of Samuel and Edith Evans Lowery, she was born Dec. 10, 1910, in Mertzon, Texas.
Melba was raised and educated in Mertzon and graduated from Campbell County High School in Gillette, Wyo., in 1929. Following graduation, she began her teaching career, teaching at various times and locations over the next 30 years.
On Feb. 28, 1933, she married Archie Lee Dressler in Hardin. Together, they ranched and operated several small businesses in Montana and Wyoming for many years. Melba and Archie's true affection for their family was evident in the way they raised their two sons and three grandchildren.
Melba was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, the Rebekka Lodge, the Wyoming Teachers Association, and the Mariner's Club in Gillette. She loved her flowers and gardening, cooking, sewing, and crocheting. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 65 years, Archie Dressler, on June 19, 1998.
Survivors include her two sons, Marion Dressler of Billings and Jim Dressler and his wife, Sally of Buffalo, Wyo.; her sister, Hazel Watsabaugh of Rapid City, S.D.; her sister-in-law, Merle Lowery of Gillette; her seven grandchildren, Dixie Mace (Jerry), Cindy Lazz (Doug), Marty Dressler (Julie), Casey Dressler (Debbie), Ted Wall, Alyson Flatness, and Raulie Dressler; and her great-grandchildren, Aaron, Rodney, Jared, Courtney, Brittney, Cassie, and Sara. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by one brother, Glenn Lowery.
Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Monday, July 13, at Michelotti, Sawyers & Nordquist Heights Chapel. Memorials may be sent to the charity of one's choice.

Thomas Dave Garber
LEWISTOWN - Thomas Dave Garber, 85, died on Thursday, July 9, 1998, at the Central Montana Medical Center of natural causes.
Dave Garber was born in "Doc Batten's" home in Dawson County (now Garfield County) east of Jordan on Sept. 4, 1912, to Emanuel E. and Myrtle (Frazier) Garber. Myrtle taught school year round enabling Dave to graduate at the age of 15 from Helena High School in 1928. After graduation, Dave returned to Garfield County to help his father in the sheep business at the Woody Creek Ranch.
In 1937, Dave went into business with Bud Merwin running a Conoco station in Jordan. Dave hauled barrels of gas to the station from the Cat Creek Oil Fields.
On Oct. 13, 1938, he married Mary MacDonald in Miles City. In 1942, they moved from Jordan to a ranch in the Missouri River Breaks where Dave and Mary had two daughters, Judy and Kelly. In 1956, Dave moved his family to Forest Grove, where he operated a ranch until his retirement in 1975. Dave enjoyed his retirement by traveling with his wife. Dave and Mary spent their winters in Mesa, Ariz., returning every summer to Montana and their beloved family. Mary passed away in 1983 and with her passing, Dave lost the love of his life. In 1984, Dave married Dolly Nix and later divorced.
Dave was always very involved in the sheep industry; his love of sheep inspired him to help organize the Snowy Mountains Wool Pool. Dave took great pride in being a charter member of the Wool Pool, a 53-year member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, serving on the school boards in both Fergus and Garfield counties, and membership of St. Leo's Parish. Dave was a kind, hard-working, honest man. His special personality touched many lives. Above all else, Dave loved his family, friends and his ranch. He enjoyed playing cards, dancing and having a good "sheepherders" highball.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Mary; his parents; two brothers, Charles and Lee; and a sister, Ruth.
He is survived by his daughters, Judy Dvorak of Lewistown and Irene (Pete) Burleigh of Great Falls. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Vicki Robins, Ronda Proue, Cathy Dvorak, Cheryl Reagan, Cindy Birdwell, David Burleigh, Daniel Burleigh; and eight great-grandchildren.
Vigil services for Thomas Dave Garber will be at the Creel Funeral Chapel on Monday, July 13, at 7 p.m.
Funeral Liturgy will be at St. Leo's Catholic Church on Tuesday, July 14, at 10 a.m.
Memorials may be designated to the "Dave Garber Memorial Fund" in c/o First National Bank, P.O. Box 540, Lewistown, MT 59457. This fund will contribute to the 4-H agricultural programs within the community.
Creel Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Lilias Kroos
TEMPLE, Texas - Lilias Kroos, 46, formerly of Billings, died Thursday, July 9, 1998.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 11, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Temple with interment in the Hillcrest cemetery. Scanio-Harper Funeral Home of Temple is in charge.

Mary June Miller
LEWISTOWN - Mary June Miller, 84, died early Thursday morning, July 9, 1998, at the Central Montana Medical Center following a short illness.
Mary June was born on Nov. 27, 1913, at Lewistown to Joseph and Mary (McIver) McNamara. She attended school in Lewistown and graduated from Fergus High School. She then attended Dillon Normal College.
On May 23, 1938, at Great Falls she was united in marriage to Leo J. Miller. He preceded her in death on Feb. 6, 1988.
Mary June taught school at Vaughn and later was a cook at the Moore Public Schools. She also worked on the family ranch at Louse Creek.
She was a member of St. Leo's Catholic Parish and an active church and community service volunteer.
She enjoyed traveling, fishing, bridge and pinochle groups. She also enjoyed having lunch with her friends at the 4-Aces and playing the dollar poker machines.
Mary June is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, John and Carol Miller of Billings, and two grandchildren, Jackie Lewis Sellers of Missoula and Stacey Nicole Miller of Billings. She was preceded in death by her husband, Leo J. Miller; a daughter, Sue Miller Lewis; and a grandson, Michael J. Lewis.
Vigil services will be at the Creel Funeral Chapel on Sunday, July 12, at 5 p.m. Funeral Liturgy will be at St. Leo's Catholic Church on Monday, July 13, at 10 a.m. Father Dan O'Rourke will be officiating. Interment will be at Mount Calvary cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the Central Montana Medical Center Foundation at P.O. Box 580, Lewistown, MT 59457.
Creel Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Jose G. Ramirez
LOVELL, Wyo. - Jose G. Ramirez, 77, died Wednesday, July 8, 1998, at New Horizons Care Center.
Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Sunday, July 12, at Haskell Funeral Home in Lovell. Funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, July 13, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church with interment in the Byron cemetery.

Laurene Kay Parker Selph
HILLIARD, Ohio - Laurene Kay Parker Selph, age 48, of Hilliard, died of cancer Thursday, July 9, 1998, at O.S.U. Medical Center.
She was preceded in death by father, Jack L. Parker; brother, Earl J. Davis; nephew, Charles Parker Jr.
She was born in Lovell, Wyo., to Jack L. Parker and Ramona D. Egbert, Aug. 13, 1949. She married Wayne D. Selph in Billings, June 27, 1973; to this marriage was born two children.
She enjoyed crafts, painting, crochet, needle work, room designing, riding horses, and traveling.
She is survived by children, Jack and Audrey; parents, Bob R. and Ramona Young; fiance, William W. Bressler; brother, Charles A. Parker; sisters, Shelley Senner and Angela Spencer; stepmother, Doris Parker; many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and a host of friends.
She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Sunday at the Tidd Funeral Home, 5265 Norwich St., Hilliard, where funeral service will be held 10 a.m. Monday. Interment Wesley Chapel cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the James Cancer Hospital.
Laurene's family and friends were her life. She will be missed by everyone who knew and loved her.
