SHERIDAN, Wyo. - Edna Lupton (Kimmel) Hepp, 91, died Sunday, Sept. 6, 1998, at Sheridan Memorial Hospital.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 11, at Champion Funeral Home with interment in the Kearney cemetery near Story.

Lloyd E. Thomas
SHERIDAN, Wyo. - Lloyd E. Thomas, 93, died Saturday, Sept. 5, 1998, at Sheridan Manor.
Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 10, at St. Peter's Episcopal Church with a reception to follow at the Elks Lodge. Ferries Funeral Home is in charge.

Janis Lynn Parks
TOLEDO, Ore. - Janis Lynn (Raymond) Parks, 40, formerly of Glendive, Mont., died Friday, Sept. 4, 1998, of cancer.
Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 12, at the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Glendive. Silvernale-Silha Funeral Home of Glendive is in charge.

Mae Meckem
CODY, Wyo. - Mae Meckem, 93, died Monday, Sept. 7, 1998, at the West Park Long Term Care Center.
Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 11, at the West Park Long Term Care Center with interment of cremated remains at a later date in the Dubois cemetery. Ballard Funeral Home is in charge.

Maxine Nutter Larson
SIDNEY - Funeral services for Maxine Nutter Larson, 81, of Sidney, are 10 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 9, 1998, at the Peoples Congregational Church in Sidney with Pastor Perry Blanchard and Pastor Mark Morgenstern officiating. Interment will be in the Sidney cemetery under the direction of Fulkerson Funeral Home of Sidney. The family requests memorial contributions be made to Sidney Health Center Hospice in lieu of flowers. Visitation at the funeral home: Sunday 10 to 4 p.m., Monday 10 to 5 p.m., Tuesday 9 to 6 p.m., and Wednesday an hour before service at the church.
Maxine Nutter Larson was born on June 10, 1917, in Cameron, Mo., to William and Sarah Rosa Ann (Guyer) Trotter. At two weeks of age, her family moved to Chinook, Mont., to homestead in the Bear Paw Mountains. They later moved to Lewistown where Maxine graduated from Fergus County High. After attending Great Falls Business College, she was employed by Robinson Realty. She moved to Sidney, Mont., to help her parents in the Marvel Ice Cream Shop. There she met Don Nutter. They fell in love and married on April 16, 1938. Maxine became the First Lady of Montana when Don was elected Governor in 1960. Don was tragically killed in 1962 while flying to a speaking engagement. Maxine and their son, John, returned to Sidney to be close to family and friends.

Cliff Larson, also having been widowed, married Maxine on Feb. 4, 1965. Together they have enjoyed national and international traveling, entertaining, attending Sidney basketball games, and their many friends. They spent several winters in their homes in the Sun City and Mesa, Ariz., areas.

Maxine was past president of the Chapter W of PEO and a member of the Order of Eastern Star #62. Her other interests include bridge, early morning walks with friends, golf, and crochet. In 1964, she was one of Montana's delegate to the Republican National Convention. There she was honored by serving as an escort to the former President Dwight D. Eisenhower.

Maxine passed away peacefully Friday, Sept. 4, 1998, in her home moments after a family prayer held around her bed.

She is survived by her husband, Cliff Larson of Sidney; her son, John Nutter and wife Renee of Boise, Idaho; her son, Wayne Larson and wife Terry of Arvada, Colo.; her daughter, Peggy Reichert and husband Randy of Billings, Mont.; her brother, Bill Trotter of Tupelo, Miss.; six grandchildren, four great grandchildren; and numerous beloved nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Gov. Don Nutter, and three sisters, Delphia Whitaker, Mary Jo Greene, and Marcella Trotter.

'Chief' Gerald J. Belcourt
BOX ELDER - "Chief" Gerald J. Belcourt, 62 years of age, died of an apparent heart attack Sept. 6, 1998, at his home in Box Elder. He was born Sept. 25, 1935, to Levi and Cecila (Parker) Belcourt at Fort Belknap. He grew up at Rocky Boy, attending school at Rocky Boy and Pierre, S.D. He graduated from Flandreau Boarding School in 1951.
The wake began Monday evening at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Rocky Boy. Mass is scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 10, 1998, 2 p.m., at the church. Burial will be at the Rocky Boy cemetery.

Belcourt entered the army in 1951 and was discharged in 1954. After the time spent in the service, he worked in mines in Butte and Arizona. He worked construction in Montana and also started his own construction business in 1976, known as Chief's Excavation and Concrete. Belcourt also owned and operated his own gas station and garage at Rocky Boy.

Belcourt married the former Jean Peacock in Las Vegas in 1969. The couple lived in Arizona, moving to Rocky Boy in 1970. The couple lived there until moving to Box Elder in 1973, making that their home. Mr. Belcourt was a former tribal council member and a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church at Rocky Boy.

His hobbies included horses, horse sales, rodeos and auctions. He was always a cattleman and rancher. Belcourt was a real outdoors person, spending a lot of time in his yard with his flowers and his garden. He was a great man to many and will be missed by all.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Peggy Nagel and Tammy Frost; and one brother, Levi Belcourt and one grandson.

Survivors include his wife, Jean of Box Elder; sons: Tony, Box Elder; Jerry and Scott, Portland, Ore.; daughters, Cindy Ragels, Box Elder, and Connie Belcourt, Billings; sisters: Myrtle Belcourt, Rocky Boy; Elsie Geboe, Rocky Boy; Leota Standing Bear, Rocky Boy; Linda Belcourt, Worley, Idaho; Luanne Belcourt, Rocky Boy; brothers: Merle Belcourt, Rocky Boy; Duane Belcourt, Chino Valley, Ariz.; Robert Belcourt, Rocky Boy; Kermit Corcoran, Rocky Boy; three stepbrothers: Bert Corcoran, Rocky Boy; John Corcoran, Great Falls; and Dick Corcoran, Washington; and also five grandchildren.

Nathaniel 'Cowboy' Long Hair
FORT KIPP - Nathaniel "Cowboy" Long Hair, of Fort Kipp, passed away on Friday, Sept. 4, 1998, at Poplar Community Hospital.
He was born on Feb. 15, 1938, to the late Ursula and Johnson Long Hair of Fort Kipp.

He grew up in the Fort Kipp area and attended Brockton Schools. He also attended Northern Montana College in Havre.

He married Iris Red Bear in Sidney. Iris and Nathaniel had three children - Alice Long Hair and Lynnette Long Hair Longtree, both of Fort Kipp, and Nathaniel Long Hair Jr. of Poplar.

Nathaniel is survived by his children and by his sisters - Della Long Hair Thomas, Lydia Long Hair, and Cecelia Long Hair, all of Fort Kipp, and Eunice Alfrey of Poplar, and many grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by both parents; his son, Vernon Long Hair; one brother, Roberto Black Dog Sr.; and his sisters, Marie Long Hair and Corine Stump of Fort Kipp and Velma Long Hair Broken Leg of Brockton.

Nathaniel served on the Fort Peck Tribal Executive Board as sergeant-at-arms, councilman and vice-chairman. He was on the Fort Peck Housing Authority and served as the Fort Kipp commissioner. He was also a member of the Brockton School Board and was chairman of the Johnson O'Malley (JOM) in Culbertson.

Nathaniel loved to travel to powwows and served on the Fort Kipp Celebration Committee for many years. In his younger days he was a grass dancer. He also enjoyed going to all the basketball games.

In his high school days he was a player on the Fort Kipp baseball teams and later served as a Little League coach. He was also a bareback rider at rodeos.

Nathaniel was very active in both the Presbyterian and Catholic churches of Fort Kipp. He served many years as a Deacon in the Red Eagle Presbyterian Church in Fort Kipp and later was a eucharistic minister in St. Anthony's Catholic Church of Fort Kipp.

A wake with prayer services will be held on Wednesday evening, Sept. 9, at 7 p.m. in the James Black Dog Activity Center in Fort Kipp. The funeral Mass will be on Thursday at 10 a.m., also in the James Black Dog Activity Center in Fort Kipp with Father Greg Staudinger officiating.

Iris Faye Red Bear Long Hair
FORT KIPP - Iris Faye Red Bear Long Hair, age 65, died Sept. 4, 1998, at Deaconess Hospital in Billings. Wake services will be Wednesday, Sept. 9, 1998, at the James Black Dog Activity Center in Fort Kipp. Funeral Mass will be 10 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 10, 1998, at the James Black Dog Activity Center in Fort Kipp with Father Greg Staudinger officiating. Interment will be in the Fort Kipp cemetery. Bell Mortuary of Glasgow is in charge of arrangements.
Iris was born April 27, 1933, to Thomas and Kate Foote Red Bear. She attended schools in Brockton and graduated from high school on May 26, 1952. Iris was employed at the A & S Tribal Industries for 18 years and worked for the Fort Peck Tribes for two years, retiring in 1996. Iris became a member of the church and was active in church affairs until she entered her Eternal Life. She was a treasurer in the Red Eagle Memorial Presbyterian Church for 22 years. She joined the Catholic Church on June 5, 1998. Iris enjoyed making star quilts for her family and friends. Many of her star quilts are displayed in museums. She enjoyed being with her grandchildren.

Survivors include daughters: Alice Amy Long Hair and her son, Darren Jon of Fort Kipp, Lynnette and her husband, Kevin Longtree and their children, Darwin Nathaniel and Clarice Faith of Fort Kipp; son: Nate and his wife, Jackie and their children, Michael, Maureen, Vincent, Jennifer, Stephanie and Natron Long Hair of Poplar; a special granddaughter, Nathelle and her husband, Jason Fredericks of Poplar; two special Grandsons they raised and adopted, Brandon Thomas Long Hair and his fiancÈe, Sayra Maeto of the family home in Fort Kipp and Derrick Long Hair, also in the family home; brother, Victor Red Bear and his wife, Elizabeth and children of Toppenish, Wash.; two special cousins, Kristie Crowbelt and Enright Bighorn of Poplar; a special niece, Theresa Smoker of Poplar.

Monica Kroll
BRIDGER - Monica Kroll, 87, of Bridger, died Monday morning, Sept. 7, 1998, in the Evergreen Care Center in Laurel.
Born in Schefield, N.D., on July 30, 1911, Monica was a daughter of Ambrose and Mathilda Sticka. On Feb. 3, 1930, she married Paul Kroll in St. Agnes Catholic Church in Red Lodge.

The Krolls farmed in the Bridger area since 1930, and although retiring into town in 1967, they continued to spend a good share of their time on the farm that had been such an important part of their lives. Mr. Kroll died on Sept. 17, 1992.

Monica enjoyed her large vegetable garden and sharing the produce with family and friends. She also quilted for her entire family, and she was very proud of her children and their families. Monica was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Parish of Bridger.

Survivors include eight sons, Donald and Bill of Bridger, Leonard of Fromberg, Paul Jr. of Laurel, John of Pelican Rapids, Minn., Robert of Laurel, Dave of Mandan, N.D., and George of Columbus; four daughters, Betty Frank of Billings, Leona Cellmer and Elaine Riesinger of Laurel, and Kathryn Kadrmas of Livingston; one brother, Tony Sticka of Fromberg; 46 grandchildren, 74 great-grandchildren, and 11 great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, Mrs. Kroll was preceded in death by an infant son, her daughter, Ann Ernest, four brothers, one sister, two grandsons, and three great-grandchildren.

Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Wednesday in Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 10, in the church. Interment will be in the Bridger cemetery, with the Olcott Funeral Chapel in charge of arrangements

Memorials may be directed to Alzheimer's disease research.

Roger L. Mason
Roger L. Mason, 50, died Aug. 27, 1998, at St. Vincent Hospital.
Visitation will be 5-9 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 10, at Michelotti, Sawyers & Nordquist Alderson Chapel. Graveside services and interment will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Sept. 11, at Riverside cemetery.

Iris P. Walthall
Iris P. Walthall, 89, died Sunday, Sept. 6, 1998, at Deaconess Billings Clinic.
Cremation has taken place. A private family gathering will be held. Cremation or Funeral Gallery, Cremation Society of Montana was in charge.

Forrest Henry Crum
Forrest Henry Crum, beloved husband, father, grandfather and brother passed away on Monday, Sept. 7, 1998.
Forrest was born in Lebanon, Kan., on Jan. 22, 1911. His family moved to a homestead in Buffalo Creek when he was a small boy. Forrest went to school in Moore and graduated from Moore High School in 1928. Forrest continued his education by attending two years of Business College. While working in Billings he met Helen Ruth Ulrich and they were married on Dec. 7, 1935. Forrest and Helen were happily married for 45 years before Helen passed away in March of 1980.

During his life, Forrest was active in the Montana Government. He served four terms in the House of Representatives for Yellowstone County. He was active in various political organizations and was concerned about keeping America on the track our forefathers intended. Forrest also served as a police officer during World War II and then went into private business and real estate development. He was an active member of the Shrine, The Mason's Fraternal Order and the Elk's Club. He loved to play cards, dance and talk politics. The pride and joy of his life was his family.

Forrest is survived by his two children, Hal Crum of Billings and Ginny Rierson of Tulsa, Okla.; four grandchildren, Scott and Janet Crum and Roni and Darbi Rierson; two great-grandchildren, Dallas and Madison Crum; and his sister, Thelma Hargrove and niece, Cody Hargrove of Billings.

A graveside service will be held on Thursday, Sept. 10, 1998, at 10 a.m. at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 Wednesday evening, Sept 9, at Smith West Chapel, 304 34th St. W.

Raymond O. 'Slim' Wright
LOVELL, Wyo. - Raymond O. "Slim" Wright, age 83, passed away Saturday, Sept. 5, 1998, at the New Horizons Care Center in Lovell.
He was born Nov. 22, 1914, in Syracuse, Kan., the son of William and Bessie Jinks Wright. He married Lois Miller, July 3, 1934, in Olathe, Kan. The couple moved to the Cody area in 1938. Slim worked on various ranches on the Southfork including the J-9, the T.E., and the Diamond Bar. He later spent a long career with the United States Forest Service. In 1982, he was selected as Ranger of the Year. It was during his employment with the Forest Service, Slim became a well recognized figure on many of the mountain trails and for his mule string that he led through numerous parades including years of the Cody Fourth of July parade. He was a member of the Eagles and a lifetime member of the Elks.

Survivors include four sons: Duane (Snuff) of Billings, Mont., Wayne (Bill), Leon and Mark (Butch), all of Cody; a daughter: Sandra Nicol of Anacortes, Wash.; two brothers; Melva of Blue Mound, Kan., and Orville of Sheridan; two sisters: Maxine Jernberg of Cody and Lucille Huchins of Pilot Mountain, N.C.; 13 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lois; a granddaughter, Cristine May Wright; a grandson, Raymond O. Wright; his parents; and three brothers: Norvin, Eldon and Ralph.

Visitation will be 7 p.m. until 9 p.m. Friday at the Ballard Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home with interment to follow in the Bull Creek cemetery.

Elmer "Tuffy" Bad Horse Stops
TACOMA, Wash. - Elmer "Tuffy" Bad Horse Stops, 37 of Tacoma, formerly of Crow Agency, Mont., was called by our Creator on Sept. 5, 1998, in Tacoma.
He currently resided in Tacoma, where he worked as a carpenter for the D.L. Celestine Construction Company.

Tuffy was born to Clarice Bad Horse Eagle Feathers and Hartford Stops on March 1, 1961, in Crow Agency. He was adopted by Alien Cover Up and was raised by his great-grandparents, the late Paul and Elva Williamson. He attended the St. Labre Mission and Flandreau Indian School, later graduating from Little Big Horn College in the carpentry program. He assisted in the building expansion of the Little Big Horn College Library.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, swimming, horseback riding and watching the Denver Bronco games. He was very proud of and participated in his Native American Culture.

Tuffy married Janet Pretty on Top in 1982 and was later divorced. The couple was blessed with three beautiful children, Starla, Ilene and Kevin Stops.

He is also survived by his mother, Clarise Eagle Feathers; his father, Hartford Stops; his adopted mother, Alien Cover Up; four brothers, Jacob Eagle Feathers, Casey Red Horse, Eddie "Snow Bird" Alden Jr., and Terrance Coverup; and seven sisters, Pamel Garza, Edwina Perez, Kristi Underwood, Roseanna Alden, Giselle Eagle Feathers, Arbutus Covers Up and Traci Dawes.

Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Friday in the Lodge Grass Catholic Church Gymnasium. Interment will follow in the Lodge Grass cemetery. Bullis Mortuary of Hardin is entrusted with the arrangements.

John William Brown
HARLOWTON - John William Brown, 83, died Monday, Sept. 7, 1998, at Wheatland Memorial Hospital and Nursing Home of natural causes.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 11, at Perkins Funeral Home with interment in the Harlowton cemetery.

Lacy Maree Thiel
POWELL, Wyo. - Our beloved Lacy Maree Thiel was born at the Powell Hospital on Sept. 7, 1998, and passed away there the same day. Although she was with us only a short time, she was much loved.
Lacy is survived by her parents, Terry and Romona Mooren Thiel, brothers, Garrett and Trevor, and sisters, Amanda and Samantha Thiel, all of Powell; her grandparents, David and Betty Thiel of Casper and Jay and Barbara Allred of Powell.

Services will be 2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 11, 1998, at St. John's Episcopal Church in Powell. Burial will be at Crown Hill cemetery. Miratsky-Easton Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

MILES CITY - Kenneth V. Ellison, 74, died Tuesday, Sept. 8, 1998, on a ranch east of Miles City of an apparent heart attack.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 12, in the Chapel of Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home.

MILES CITY - Grace South, 84, died Tuesday, Sept. 8, 1998, at the Holy Rosary Health Center.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 11, in the Chapel of Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home with interment in the Custer County cemetery.
