Louise Salome Goehry Kinnan
ESCONDIDO, Calif. - Louise Salome Goehry Kinnan went home to her Heavenly Father on Sept. 2, 1998. At the time of death she was living with her daughter in Escondido.
Louise was born at Platte Center, Neb., May 2, 1900, the fourth child of French immigrant parents, Frederick Goehry Jr. and Salome Staudemier Goehry. She was raised on her father's farm in a family of eight children. Louise wanted more than anything to get an education and with the support of her family she completed her high school education at Platte Center and went on to earn a teaching certificate from Wayne State Normal in St. Edwards, Neb. She taught in county schools around Tarnov, Platte Center and Monroe, Neb.

Louise was united with Avaline Bud "Doc" Kinnan, Aug. 21, 1921. Bud trained as a Ford mechanic at the Ford Motor Company training school in St. Louis, Mo. This profession was their means of living throughout their lives. They moved to Lincoln, Neb., where their first daughter was born, then to Belle Fourche, S.D., where they welcomed two more daughters into the family.

In 1936, they moved to Torrington, Wyo., and in 1939 they moved to Cody, Wyo., where they lived until Bud's retirement in 1965 as supervisor of mechanics and maintenance in the Oregon Basin Oil Field.

While in Oregon Basin Louise worked on the County Election Board, was a member of the Park County Extension Club and helped in many ways at the Oregon Basin School. But her first and most important job was being a wife and mother. After retirement Bud and Louise moved to Billings, Mont. Bud passed away in 1973 and Louise con-tinued to live in their home in Billings until 1996 when she went to live with her daughter, Joan, in Escondido.

Her love of all God's creations showed in her interest and zest for living. She was an avid reader and she stayed current on political, world and community happenings. She considered it a privilege to be an American and truly believed her vote gave her a voice in the governing of the country she loved so much.

Her philosophy for life was that life is a gift from God and should be nurtured and refined every minute we live. She often said "clean-liness is next to Godliness" and she worked hard to make everything around her clean. She believed that education and hard work was the answer to a better life for everyone, and encouraged her children and all children to go on with their education.

Louise is survived by three daughters: Jenny Faye, (E. "Toddy") Jones of Newburgh, N.Y., Joan Sadie Dempsey McDonald of Escondido, and Dione Alberta Gorbutt of Pagosa Springs, Colo.; one sister, Sophia Peterson; nine grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
