Barbara L. (Bobby) Jones
MENLO PARK, Calif. - Barbara L. (Bobby) Jones, 77, passed away peacefully in Menlo Park on Sept. 22, 1998, following a long and courageous battle with cancer.
A lifelong Montanan, she was born Barbara French in Bozeman on Dec. 27, 1920, where she grew up and attended the historic Emerson school and later Bozeman High School. She continued to live in Bozeman until graduation from Montana State University in 1942 with a degree in accounting.

Following graduation, she moved to Seattle. While there, she met her future husband, Lewis "Lou" Jones, who was stationed there with the OSS during WWII. They fell in love and were married in Seattle on Nov. 3, 1944. For the rest of the war, they lived in Alaska as well as Seattle.

When the war ended, and no doubt influenced by Bobby's stories of Montana, they decided to move back to Montana and settled in Bozeman. Bobby worked as the bookkeeper for the Gallatin County Clerk and Recorders Office and in various other government positions until the birth of her daughter. At that time, she became a wonderful full-time mother for both of her children.

In 1973, she and Lou moved to Billings, where she remained until Lou's death in 1997, after 51 years of marriage. She then moved to California to be with her daughter and family.

Bobby was known by all as a devoted mother and grandmother. She loved to cook, even though she liked to say she'd "ruined" some of the best meals her family and friends had ever tasted. No visit to Grandma Bobby by her grandsons was ever complete without her famous Chocolate Cream Pie. An avid gardener, summer meals were filled with fresh homegrown vegetables she had carefully cultivated.

She also had a great sense of humor and a dry, self-deprecating wit that got her points of view across in a very few words. It was her gift to us that she could always reduce the most complex issues to a single, hilariously funny observation. Her collected letters, notes and birthday cards will always be cherished by all of us.

Most of all, she was a wonderful wife and the best mother and grandmother a family could have had. She gave her love to all of us unconditionally and made everyone feel needed and important.

She is survived by her daughter, Cindy Folker, and her daughter's husband, Arthur, and grandsons, John and Thomas, of Menlo Park; and her son, Roger of Billings.

Cremation has taken place and a private burial in Billings will follow. Memorials may be made to Mid-Peninsula Hospice Foundation, 65 El Camino Real, Menlo Park, CA 94025.

Barbara Jones, beloved wife, loving mother and doting grandmother. You are in our hearts always and forever.
