Ruth Francis (Rist) Ternes
The loving hand of Our Lord, took a "special lady" into His arms on Saturday, Aug. 22, 1998. Ruth, more affectionately known as "Meme" to her immediate family and close friends, left us all with a saddened and heavy heart. She was born the daughter of Sigurd and Elsie Rist on Aug. 13, 1923, in Ryegate.
She grew up in the Ryegate/Belmont area as a young girl, where her family farmed until 1930. In that same year, she moved with her family to Billings. She attended schools at Belmont, Orchard, Hawthorn and Fratt. In the fall of 1938, she enrolled at Billings Senior High School.

On Aug. 7, 1945, Ruth married the love of her life, Anthony Sylvester Ternes, at St. Peters Catholic Church in Anaconda. She worked at Newberry's dime store, Deaconess Hospital, and Hart Albins Youth Center, all in Billings. Her pastimes included time spent with her beautiful grandchildren (who she adored), her spacious yard, camping, hunting artistic abilities, square dancing, and canning the fruits of her labor. The many lives that she touched with her warm smile, her contagious and continuous hugs, and always the mention of "kissing your heart," will be greatly missed and cherished. She was always positive in her love of family and never spoke an unkind word. She had a wonderful sense of humor and a genuine heart that she gave to all. From the hunting and fishing trips that she took with her nephews, to teaching her grandkids to "feel the wheel" with their first driving lesson, to making a long journey from California to Montana in a 1933 Dodge, to afternoon coffee with the neighbors, but more so, the long enjoyable visits on the phone. These were the things that Ruth took great pleasure in.

She will be greatly missed by her family and her many neighbors and friends that she incorporated in her short 75 years of life! Her treasures were many and her rewards were blessed as she gave of herself and enjoyed the smiles that her efforts brought. She was preceded in death by her parents; her late husband, Tony; two brothers, John and Andrew; and her grandson, John.

She leaves behind a daughter, Elizabeth and son-in-law, Robert J. Capser Jr.; her grand-children, Richard and Stephanie DuVal, and Scott and Ron Capser; a sister, Ann Kennedy Burgo; a brother, Bud (Seivert R.) Rist; sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews and grandnieces and grandnephews.

"Farewell, my darling Mother.....our angel of mercy......Pray for us, one and all......and wait for us, until that wonderful day, when we make that journey to meet you in God's Heavenly Home."

A Vigil Service will be held 7 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 26, at St. Patrick's Co-Cathedral with cremation to follow. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated 12 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 27, at St. Patrick's Co-Cathedral with Rite of Committal in Mountview cemetery.
