Peter Paul Slaby
RED LODGE - Peter P. Slaby of San Anselmo, Calif., died suddenly on Aug. 7, 1998, in Billings, at the age of 69.
He was born June 30, 1929, in Red Lodge. The son of William and Ulda (Scala) Slaby, he was raised and attended school in Red Lodge, graduating from Carbon County High School in 1948. He lettered in basketball and football all four years.
The Slaby brothers, Hugo and Pete, moved to San Francisco in 1948. In 1952, Pete was united in marriage to Rae Heinz, in San Francisco. They moved to Marin County in 1965. Pete was a journeyman plumber and a member of Local 38 in San Francisco for 49 years. He retired in 1989.
Pete was active in CYO, Little League and was the past president of the Sir Francis Drake Bench Warmers, a member of the Seniors in Retirement (SIRS) Branch 77, and St. Rita's parish.
Pete was the loving father of Diane Rae Lunny, Debra Lynn Crebassa, William David Slaby; father-in-law to Joseph A. Lunny and John Lee Crebassa; grandfather of the late Jaime Lunny, Janel Joseph, and Jared Lunny and John Lee Crebassa, Jr.; son-in-law of Josie Heinz Pucken; brother-in-law to Sandy and Earl Rocca, Janis Rae Erickson and the late David Heinz all of California.
He loved his home, family, friends, fishing, mushrooming, cooking and retirement. Pete was a caregiver to many, always ready to help in any way. "Big Pete" will be greatly missed by many.
Pete is survived by his Uncle Ugo, and wife Hazel, and Phillip Scala of Billings and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Hugo.
Funeral arrangements are being handled through Dahl Funeral Chapel of Red Lodge and the Neptune Society of San Rafael, California.
The family is thankful for the services of the Red Lodge Rescue Unit, Dr. Zavala and staff at Carbon County Hospital, Dr. Winton, and nurses and staff of St. Vincent's Hospital of Billings.
Memorials may be made to the charities of your choice.

Laura Telida Saubak Sonsteng
GLASGOW - Laura Telida Saubak Sonsteng, 94, of Glasgow, passed away Aug. 9, 1998, at Valley View Home in Glasgow.
Laura was born on Aug. 15, 1903, the daughter of Knut Saubak and Randine Tomine Steenerson Saubak. She was baptized and confirmed at Poplar River Lutheran Church in Fosston, Minn. She lived in Polk County, near Fosston, until 1918 when she moved with her family to Valley County. Laura was the oldest at home after the move to Montana; she became her father's helper on the farm. She learned to ride horseback, milked cows, helped with haying, and worked in the garden, providing the grasshoppers did not get to the produce first. Laura earned her school diploma in Wolf Point.
Laura married Arnold Sonsteng, a widower, of Lustre. They made their home just north of the Lustre Bible Academy. Eight children were born to this union, and she also raised seven children from Arnold's first marriage. She particularly enjoyed crafts such as rug-making, needlework, and quilting. She was always ready to go for a ride or play a game of cards. She was an excellent cook and welcomed company with homemade goodies at any time. After retiring in 1957, Laura and Arnold made their home in Glasgow on the Skylark Road.
Laura was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Arnold, in 1971; her sons, Obert, Walter, Telford, and Curtis; her daughters, Clarice and Gladys; five brothers, two sisters, and three grandchildren.
Laura is survived by six sons: Milo of Havre, Lyle of Sheridan, Wyo., Kenneth and Stanley of Glasgow, Raymon of Lustre, and Douglas of Wolf Point; three daughters: Helen Hagen of Moorhead, Minn., Millie Knight of Glasgow, and Arlene Decker of Santa Fe, N.M.; one sister, Cora Storaasli of Kent, Wash.; one brother, Kenneth of Great Falls; 44 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be Friday, Aug. 14, 1998, at 2 p.m. at the First Lutheran Church in Glasgow with Pastor Martin Mock officiating. Interment will be in the Highland cemetery in Glasgow. Bell Mortuary of Glasgow is in charge of arrangements.

Norma Georgine Estler Stingley
POWELL, Wyo. - Norma Georgine Estler Stinley, 75, died Sunday, Aug. 9, 1998, at the Powell Nursing Home.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 13, at the Miratsky-Easton Funeral Home in Powell. Visitation will be held immediately before the services at the funeral home. Interment will be in the Crown Hill cemetery in Powell.

Esther Edna Stroh
POWELL, Wyo. - Esther Edna Stroh, 78, died Saturday, Aug. 8, 1998, at the Powell Nursing Home.
Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 13, at the Miratsky-Easton Funeral Home and one hour prior to services at the church. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 14, at St. Barbara's Catholic Church, with interment in the Crown Hill cemetery.

Charlotte Maloney Thomte
Charlotte Maloney Thomte, 81, died Aug. 9, 1998, after suffering a serious stroke. She was born on Oct. 31, 1916, the daughter of Thomas Maloney and Caroline Schultz in Rolla, N.D.
Charlotte was valedictorian of her high school class in Rolla and an honor student at the University of North Dakota graduating with a B.A. in Home Economics. She was employed as Farm Security Home Management supervisor in Rollette and Towner counties.
On July 6, 1940, she married Morris B. Thomte at Lisbon, N.D. The family lived in St. Cloud, Minn., Greeley, Colo. and moved to Montana in March, 1952. In Miles City, she was a leader of 4-H groups and active in the church guild. In 1957, the family moved to Billings where she continued 4-H work, taught sewing and bridge at the YMCA, and was a long-time member of St. Luke's guild. Charlotte was a past president of the Billings Home Economists and a member of the Pioneer Extension Club. She was a member of the Absarokee Fine Arts Association and St. Paul's on the Stillwater.
Charlotte was a teacher at heart. Hers was an inquiring mind. She gave generously and faithfully of herself in relationships and tasks as wife, mother, friend and neighbor. Charlotte shared her interests in sewing, gardening, cooking, bridge, and reading with many people. She provided meals and flowers for shut-ins for many years. Her infectious laugh, generosity and friendly nature won her many life-long friends in Billings and Mesa, Ariz.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother who died young; her brother; Alfred Maloney; and her sister, Lucy Osterman.
Survivors include her husband Morris, daughter, Jean (Thorm) Forseth of Billings and their children Linnea, Eric and Kjersten; a son, Barton (Marilyn) Thomte of Daly City, Calif. and their son Daryl; and a daughter, Janet (Lyle) Graff of Sioux Falls, S.D., and their children Justin and Jennifer; and two great-grandchildren, Kayla Forseth and Henry Charpentier.
A memorial service will be held at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church on 13th Street West and Crawford at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 12, 1998. Memorials may be directed to St. Paul's on the Stillwater or the charity of one's choice. Michelotti, Sawyers & Nordquist has charge of arrangements.

Laura B. VanBuren
LAUREL - Laura B. VanBuren, 90, of Laurel, passed away Saturday, Aug. 8, 1998, at the Laurel Evergreen Care Center. She was born Jan. 28, 1908, at Penoca, Alberta, Canada. She married Benjamin H. VanBuren in 1928, and he preceded her in death in 1962. She was a member of the Laurel First Baptist Church.
She is survived by her son, Melvin Clyde VanBuren of Billings; three grandchildren, David VanBuren of Billings, Larry VanBuren of Joliet and Kathleen Carter of Joliet; four great-grandchildren, Krista VanBuren, Justin VanBuren, Jodi Carter and Chad VanBuren; one great-great-grandchild, Wyatt Justin VanBuren; one brother, Jack Williams of White Sulphur Springs; one sister, Fern Huver of Minnesota; and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 13, at Smith Funeral Chapel - Laurel. Interment will be in the Laurel cemetery.

David W. Claver
David W. Claver passed away at his home Saturday evening, Aug. 8, 1998, following a lengthy battle with cancer. He had lived for 61 years.
David was born in Lewistown, a son of James and Elizabeth Claver. He went to school in Lewistown, later moving to Stanford and enlisting in the army in November of 1954. In 1958, David married Ruth Gregory in Lewistown.
Following a divorce, Mr. Claver moved to Billings in 1962, where on Aug. 25, 1964, he married Delores Beeffier Rodell. They were divorced in 1996.
David worked in building and road construction all his life. He enjoyed time spent camping, prospecting for gold, playing cards with family and friends or betting on the race horses.
Mr. Claver is survived by three daughters, Patricia Karagiosis of Bozeman, Pamela Daley of Elko, Nev., and Cindy Bargas of Billings; two sons, Kerry Claver of St. George, Utah and David Ray Claver of Billings; four stepsons, Leonard of Miles City, and Robert, Charles and Dennis Rodell of Billings; two brothers, Lee Claver of Seattle and Jimmy Claver of Stanford; a sister, Susan Watkins of Lewistown; 12 grandchildren; and his companion and dear friend, Miriam Vialpando of Billings.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 12, at the Smith Downtown Chapel with interment at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Smith Downtown Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Evellyn Elizabeth 'Beth' Dailey
CODY, Wyo. - Evellyn Elizabeth "Beth" Dailey, 70, died Sunday, Aug. 9, 1998, at West Park Hospital in Cody.
At her request, cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be 10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 13, at First Presbyterian Church of Cody. Ballard Funeral Home is in charge.

Lucille Rose Haraldson
Age 97
My loving mother was born on May 14, 1901, in Leroy Minn., to Kate (Regan) and Clark McKee, the sixth of ten children. She passed away Friday, Aug. 7, 1998, at St. John's Lutheran Home in Billings.
When she was a toddler the family moved to Carrington, N.D., where she attended County School. At age 19, Lucille graduated from Valley State Teachers College; for several years she taught country schools, having to ride horseback to teach her classes. On Aug. 9, 1928, she married Iver Haraldson; some 15 years later on July 27, 1943, their daughter, Kathy was born. The family lived in Billings from 1945 to the present. Her husband Iver worked at the Northern Hotel as a barber and Lucille worked for the Great West Life Assurance Co. for 20 years and then for the Bureau of Land Management for 20 years. Iver and Lucille loved going to the Mustangs baseball games and driving to Red Lodge for Sunday dinner. Lucille was active in First English Lutheran Church, Past President American Legion Women's Auxiliary, past Secretary Treasurer Retired Federal Employees Association, and volunteer work for AARP, VA Hospital Sheridan, Wyo.
Most of all, Lucille will be remembered as "Grandmom" not only to her grandchildren, Randy Richter age 30, now living in Ogden, Utah, and Russ Richter age 22, Billings, from the marriage of Frank and Kathy Richter, Billings, but to everyone who met her in the last 30 years. Grandmom will be remembered as the most caring person one has ever met, the Greatest mother--in-law one could have, the Greatest Grandmom ever, the Greatest most generous mother and she also made the best coleslaw in the world.
Memorial service at First English Lutheran Church, Tuesday, Aug. 11, at 11 a.m.
Cremation and Funeral Gallery was in charge of cremation.

Larry Krank
DEADWOOD, S.D. - Larry Krank, 53, of Deadwood, formerly Billings, died Thursday, Aug. 6, 1998 at the Rapid City Regional Hospital in Rapid City, S.D., as a result of a heart attack. He was born on Sept. 29, 1944, in Sydney, Mont. On March 10, 1990, Larry was united in marriage to Wendy Wilson.
Larry owned and operated the Aristocut Barbers in Billings. He was a band leader for "Moxie," their bass player and lead vocalist At the time of his death, he owned and operated The Barber in Deadwood. Larry will be remembered as an exceptional individual, musician and artist who cared deeply for his family and friends.
Survivors include his loving wife of eight years, Wendy; daughter Laurie Budig and her husband, Robert of Woodward, Okla.; daughter, Kammy Cathey and her husband, Andy of Naples, Fla.; four grandchildren Brandon Budig, Heath Budig, Ryan Cathey and Kelsie Cathey; two sisters, Dorothy Dinius, Spokane, Wash. and Jeanne Redd of Billings.
Funeral Service will be 10 a.m. Monday at Dahl Funeral Chapel.

Rick Lilienthal
TUCSCON, Ariz. - Rick Lilienthal, 43, of Tucson passed away peacefully Aug. 7, 1998, after a brief struggle with cancer.
Survivors include his mother, Fannie; one brother, Bill; sister, Norma (Garth) Greenbaum, all of Tuscon; and sister, Mildred (Claud) Pickard, of Casper, Wyo.; plus several nieces and nephews. Rick was preceded in death by his father, Theodore.
Born in Billings on July 14, 1955, Rick started his banking career with Lloyds Bank of Long Beach, progressing to manager in International Banking with Sanwa Bank in Lost Angeles. After being caught up in the downsizing trend in banking, he worked for several years in sales at Knotts Berry Farm.
Memorial services will be held at East Lawn Palms Chapel, 5801 E. Grant Road, Monday, Aug. 10, at 3 p.m. Interment will be at All Souls cemetery in Long Beach.

Laura B. VanBuren

Welton 'Poncho' Williams
Welton "Poncho" Williams, 89 died on Friday, Aug. 7, 1998 at Eagle Cliff Manor where he had been a resident for three months.
Poncho was born May 12, 1909, in Cedar Bayou, Texas, the son of Joshua and Daisy (Stubbs) Williams. He attended schools in Cedar Bayou.
Nov. 29, 1929, Poncho was united in marriage to Viola Corrine Reed in, Texas. Viola died in 1962.
In Casper, Wyo., he worked as a superintendent for Brinkerhoff Drilling Co. In 1955, Poncho moved his family to Billings. Later he became a business partner with Great Northern Drilling Company and Molen Drilling Company. He retired from the drilling business and moved back to Texas for a number of years. Because of failing health, Poncho returned to Billings four years ago to be near his family.
Some of Poncho's favorite pastimes were fishing and hunting.
Survivors include son, Alton Reed Williams; daughter, Patsy and husband, Larry Wetch; son, Russell Lee Williams all of Billings; eight grandchildren and five great-grandsons. He is also survived by two sisters, Verda Sample of South Houston, Texas and Laura Smith of Baytown, Texas, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Graveside funeral services will be in Baytown, Texas, 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 14, at the Memory Gardens cemetery on Garth Road. Visitation will be at Dahl Funeral Chapels, Billings, Sunday from l p.m. - 8 p.m. and Monday from 8 a.m. - 8 p.m. In Baytown, visitation will be at Sterling White Chapel on Thursday from 4 p.m. - 8 p.m.

John Franklin Fellows
CODY, Wyo. - John Franklin Fellows, 40, died Thursday, Aug. 6, 1998, at his home in Cody.
Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 10, at Stampede Baptist Church. Ballard Funeral Home of Cody is in charge.

Lorraine J. Fellows
CODY, Wyo. - Lorraine J. Fellows, 66, passed away Friday, Aug. 7, 1998, at her home.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 10, at the Stampede Baptist Church, in conjunction with her son John's memorial service. Interment will follow in Riverside cemetery.
