Robert Benton Reeves
Robert Benton Reeves, 80, of Billings, died Sunday Dec. 6, 1998, at his home. He was born Aug. 12, 1918, in Larned, Kan., a son of Ralph Benton and Grace Argabright Reeves, and grew up with two sisters.
At the onset of W.W. II he left his job in movie theater management and enlisted in the Army. He served in combat on Guadalcanal in the Pacific Theater of Operations, attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant. Here he contracted malaria which would plague him for much of the rest of his life.

After the war, Bob returned to theater management, married and shared in the "baby boom, " producing two daughters. In 1968, after the death of his wife, Betty, Bob met and wed Mildred Dean who had two daughters of her own.

Bob's life can be understood by laying it out on a time line spanning the evolution of the theater business. Beginning with converted burlesque halls and the era of the movie palaces of the great depression, through the fad of drive-ins, down to the multiplexes of contemporary times, successful operation required, not just a manager, but a master showman. That was Bob Reeves. During his tenure for Major Studios, he hosted such notables as Charleton Heston and Lloyd Bridges at World Premiers. He regularly worked with directors and actors such as John Ford and John Wayne at screenings during the production of movies at Old Tucson.

Bob will best be remembered for his stories of the War and the theater business which enthralled his children and grandchildren and his incredible sense of humor which he maintained to the end.

Bob is survived by his wife, Millie; his sister, Doris; four daughters; 12 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

The measure of Bob's success in life is not what he acquired to leave his heirs, but how they will miss him.

Cremation has taken place and private family services will be held at a later date. Cremation or Funeral Gallery, Cremation Society of Montana was in charge of arrangements.
