Clifford H. Clark
Clifford H. Clark went home to his Lord and Savior on Sunday, Oct. 18, 1998. He was 76 years old.
He was born to Henry and Edna Snyder Clark on a small farm northwest of Kingman, Kan. He helped work the farm and graduated from high school in Kingman in 1940. He attended Friends University in Wichita, Kan., and worked his way through college by working for Safeway stores.

Cliff served his country in World War II in the South Pacific on the islands of Okinawa and Iwo Jima. After the war he finished college and moved to Birmingham, Ala., where he worked for Southern Advertising. While there, he met Kathryn Thompson who was to become his bride. They were married on May 11, 1949, and would have been married 50 years next May.

Cliff earned his master's degree in business at the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa and returned with his family to Wichita where he taught at Friends University from 1952 until 1959.

In 1959 he came to Rocky Mountain College in Billings where he taught for 26 years in the Business Department. He was a loyal and devoted teacher and loved his profession and his students. He often gave the college many hours of help during the summer by trimming the trees and shrubbery.

Cliff kept in touch with many of his students through the years and made and kept many friends. Upon his retirement his friends and students gave him a fishing trip to Alaska. In 1996, Cliff was honored by Rocky Mountain College for his many years of service with a dinner and reunion over homecoming weekend which was attended by his students from all over the United States.

He loved fishing and hunting with his friends and family and had many good trips through the years. He loved his children and was proud of them and his grandchildren were a delight to him.

He is survived by his wife, Kathryn. His son Cliff Jr. and wife Connie have a daughter Katie and a son due in November. His son Larry has a daughter Aaron and son Chris who live in Vermont. Larry and his wife Michelle and two daughters, Kelsey and Mallory live in Billings. Cliff's daughter Vicki is married to Steve Taborek. They have a son, Lotsko, and live in Puyallup, Wash. Cliff is also survived by his brother George and sister Vada and their families who reside in Kansas.

A memorial service will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 24, at Michelotti, Sawyers & Nordquist Alderson Chapel.

Memorials may be sent to the Clifford Clark Scholarship Fund for business students at Rocky Mountain College, 1511 Poly Drive, Billings, MT 59102.

Annie M. Kilwein
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Annie M. Kilwein, 91, of Colorado Springs, formerly of Laurel, Mont., passed away Monday, Oct. 19, 1998, at Colorado Springs.
Annie was a daughter of Ranoums and Elizabeth Heck Schaff, born Nov. 25, 1906, at Burt, N.D. She was raised in Burt and attended schools there.

Annie and her husband farmed in Daglum, N.D.; Lemmon, S.D.; Shields, N.D.; Casper, Wyo.; and Laurel, Mont. She moved to Colorado Springs in 1992.

Survivors include five daughters and two sons: Mrs. Robert (Lorraine) Rider of Laurel, Mrs. Lee (Alice) Maxwell of Renton, Wash., Mrs. Mike (Delores) Kahl of Bismarck, N.D., Mrs. Harold (Victoria) Farris of Evergreen, and Marie Kilwein of Colorado Springs, Larry Kilwein of Casper, and Joe Kilwein of Fair Oaks, Calif.; 24 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and 15 great-great-grandchildren.

Annie was preceded in death by her husband, George in 1990, three sons and a daughter.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 24, 1998, at St. Anthony Catholic Church, Laurel. Rite of committal, Laurel cemetery.

Smith Funeral Chapel-Laurel was in charge of arrangements.

Agnes Isle
WOLF POINT - Agnes Elaine Isle passed away at her home Monday, Oct. 19, of a heart attack.
Agnes was born Oct. 12, 1929, at Walker, Minn., the daughter of Harry N. and Mamie Downs. In 1946, she moved with her family to Wolf Point where her parents had purchased The Herald-News.

She was a graduate of Wolf Point High School and was a member of Community Bible Church.

She married Roger W. Isle in Wolf Point on March 6, 1949. She was a homemaker and her family was a central point in her life.

She is survived by her mother, Mamie Downs of Hackensack, Minn.; one son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Michelle Isle of Wolf Point; one daughter, Ruth A. Boysun of Wolf Point; two brothers, Harry N. Downs and his wife, Ina of Wolf Point, and Robert Downs of Hackensack; three grandsons, Troy Stengrim of Gold Bar, Wash., Christopher and Chase Isle of Wolf Point; one granddaughter, Heather Boysun of Wolf Point; and one great-grandson, Jesse Hoffman of Washington, numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father and her husband.

Services will be held Friday, Oct. 23, at 2 p.m. at Clayton Memorial Chapel. Burial will be in Greenwood cemetery. Pastor David Lind will officiate.

Richard W. Burns
Richard W. Burns, 87, of Billings, died Tuesday, Oct. 20, 1998, at St. John's Lutheran Nursing Home.
The son of Clyde and Lulu Belle Burns, Richard was born Aug. 2, 1911, in Baker. The family lived in Miles City, Billings and Helena, where he graduated from high school. He received a degree in chemical engineering from Montana State College. After graduation he went to work for Farmers Co-op in Laurel, then Grizzle Oil in Cut Bank until coming to Billings to work for Yale Oil which eventually became Exxon Oil. He retired from Exxon in 1970.

He married Lucille Vivian Sadler "Bobby, " Aug. 8, 1936. She preceded him in death in October, 1981. In July 1982 he married Lucille Wright.

He was a member of the Elks Club, Al-Bedoo Shrine, Masons, Scottish Rite, and was a charter member of Yellowstone Country Club. Richard could never permanently leave Montana, he always returned home.

Survivors include his wife, Lucille of Billings; son, Brad of Billings; daughter, Victoria Burns Kenworthy of Phoenix; grandchildren, Melanie Barnes of Charlotte, N.C., April Burns of Schaumburg, Ill., Heather Burns of Billings, Courtney Kenworthy of Los Angeles, and Christopher Kenworthy and William Kenworthy of Philadelphia; great-grandchildren, Shannon and Rachel Barnes of Charlotte; and three sisters, Gwen Sloan of Redwood City, Calif., Greta Lewsey of Sunnyvale, Calif., and Ruth Nicoll of Atlanta, Ga. He was preceded in death by his brother, Gordon.

Cremation has taken place. Private interment will be at Terrace Gardens.

Memorials may be made to Al-Bedoo Shrine Children's Hospital Transportation Trust Fund, P.O. Box 20673, Billings, MT 59104.

Michelotti, Sawyers & Nordquist has charge of arrangements.

Janet Faye Aasen
Janet Faye Aasen, longtime resident of Billings, passed away at her home on Oct. 13, 1998. She was born on April 19, 1953, to Elsie Hockens Aasen and Tom Aasen. Janet attended schools in Billings and graduated from Billings High School. She lived in Glendive for a short time before returning to Billings where she enjoyed arts and crafts, knitting, china painting, and flower arranging.
Janet is survived by her mother, Elsie at Valley Health Care Center in Billings; a brother, Hal Aasen and his family in Helena; a stepsister Marilou Mitchell and her family in Sugarland, Texas; and an uncle, Marvin Hockens and his family in Glendale, Calif. She is preceded in death by her father, Tom Aasen.

A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 23, at the Smith Downtown Chapel with interment to follow at Mountview cemetery. Cremation has taken place Smith Downtown Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Hanna Armijo
Hanna Armijo, 84, of Billings, formerly of Ballantine, passed away at the Aspen Meadow Retirement Center, Monday, Oct. 19, 1998.
She was born Sept. 26, 1914, in Billings, the daughter of John and Mary E. (Schleining) Nagel. She was raised in Laurel, Shepherd and Huntley. She attended the Wheatly School near Huntley and the Shepherd school.

On Dec. 8, 1934, she married Daniel Armijo in Billings. They lived and worked on a farm in Hardin and the Enos J. Erb farm in Huntley prior to moving to Ballantine in 1943. Hanna worked at the Ballantine School and at Eastern Montana College.

She enjoyed gardening, raising beautiful flowers, needle work and she was known for her excellent cooking skills.

She was currently affiliated with the Worden Open Bible Church.

Survivors include four daughters and husbands, Beverly (Ron) Ohlin of Worden, Dolores (Jack) Green of Jackson, Tenn., Florence (John) Outcelt of Idaho Falls, Idaho, and Sharon (Don) Brown of Garden City, Mich.; 16 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren; her two sisters, Amy Wittman of Huntley and Clara Erb of Harlowton.

Hanna was preceded in death by her husband, Daniel in 1987; her parents; one brother; four sisters; and a grandson, Preston Outcelt.

Funeral services will be 12 noon Friday, Oct. 23, at the Smith Downtown Chapel. Interment will be at the Huntley cemetery. Visitation will begin at noon Thursday and the family will greet friends and family at the chapel from 7 to 9 Thursday evening. Memorials may be made to the Worden Ambulance or the Worden Open Bible Church.

Arvanda 'Jill' Stewart
RIVERTON, Wyo. - We lost Arvanda "Jill" Stewart on Oct. 17, 1998, along with Steve Washington, whom she loved, as the result of injuries sustained in a pickup truck rollover in Wyoming.
Jill was born on June 12, 1979, at Crow Agency, Mont., a daughter of Arnold G. Stewart Sr. and Claudia Bearquiver. Jill attended schools in Pryor and Busby, Mont.

Jill enjoyed being with her many friends and cousins. She had an unforgettable smile and will be missed by all who knew her and loved her.

Jill was preceded in death by her parents, Arnold G. Stewart Sr. and Claudia Bearquiver. She was raised by her maternal aunt, Theda Eaglefeathers.

Survivors include a daughter, SheyAnn Stewart Washington of Riverton and a son, Jerrel Stewart of Billings; two sisters, Jodean Eaglefeathers of Billings and Roseen Red Star of Lame Deer, Mont.; three brothers, Arnold "Sonny" Stewart Jr. of Pryor, Brian Red Star of Lame Deer and Sealmer Red Star Jr. of Twentynine Palms, Calif.; grandparents, Rose Eaglefeathers of Lame Deer and Oliver and Belva Costa of Pryor; special aunt, Janet Seestheground; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins; special friends: Loni, Dawn Wolfname, Deidre Blackburn, Jerry Nava and Alfreda Russell.

Jill we love you and we'll miss you.

Wake services will be held on Thursday, Oct. 22, 1998, 8 p.m. at the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Lame Deer. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 23, 1998, at the church in Lame Deer with interment in the Busby cemetery. Rausch Funeral Home of Lame Deer is in charge.

Martha Altman
LAUREL - Martha Altman, 81, of Laurel, passed away Oct. 21, 1998, at Western Manor Health Care Center in Billings. She was born in Fromberg in 1917, a daughter of John and Maggie Rybin.
Martha attended school in Fromberg and married Albert Altman, Aug. 1, 1936, in Columbus.

She enjoyed quilting and working in her garden and loving her grandkids.

Martha was preceded in death by two brothers, Johnny and Frankie; three sisters, Francis, Emily and Anny; mother and father, Maggie and John Rybin; husband, Albert Altman; son, Donald Altman; daughter, Darlene Crowder; and granddaughter, Tammi Altman.

She is survived by a son, Duaine Altman and family of Rosedale, Ind.; daughters, Alberta Carroll of Anaconda, Virginia Altman of Billings, Donna Osen of Laurel, Mary Dobson of Roundup; a sister, Marie (William) Manwiler of Joliet; 16 grandkids and 22 great-grandkids.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 23, 1998, at Smith Funeral Chapel in Laurel with interment in Laurel cemetery.

Ernest R. Knipfer
MILL IRON - Ernest R. Knipfer, 73, of Mill Iron, died Sunday, Oct. 18, 1998, at the Holy Rosary Health Care Center in Miles City.
A prayer service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 22, at the Stevenson Funeral Home in Ekalaka. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Friday, Oct. 23, at the First Baptist Church Courtyard in Ekalaka with interment at 4 p.m. at the Fairview cemetery in Camp Crook, S.D.
