CODY, Wyo. - Hattie Webster, 91, died Sunday, Oct. 25, 1998, at the Beehive Home.
Cremation has taken place. A memorial service for friends and family will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 30, at First Presbyterian Church. Ballard Funeral Home is in charge.

Ruth Louise Wojahn
WIBAUX - Ruth Louise Wojahn, 78, of rural Wibaux, died Sunday, Oct. 25, 1998, in Glendive.
Visitation will be 1-5 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 27, and 9 a.m. to noon Wednesday, Oct. 28, at the Chapel of the Silvernale-Silha Funeral Home in Beach, and one hour before services at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Beach. Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the church with interment in the Beach Lutheran cemetery.

Fred Warren Henry
THERMOPOLIS, Wyo. - Fred Warren Henry, 89, formerly of Frannie, died Saturday, Oct. 24, 1998, at Canyon Hill Manor.
Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 27, 1998, in the Deaver-Frannie cemetery in Deaver, Wyo. Haskell Funeral Home of Lovell is in charge.

Wilford 'Gramps' LaFond
GLASGOW - Wilford "Gramps" LaFond, 87, died Friday, Oct. 23, 1998, at the Frances Mahon Deaconess Hospital.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 28, 1998, at the Bell Chapel. Burial will be at Paw Paw, Mich. cemetery. Bell Mortuary is in charge.

Angel Jae Morsette
Angel Jae Morsette, infant daughter of Jason and Sheri Chandler Morsette, died Oct. 23, 1998, in the Crow Agency IHS Hospital.
Survivors include her parents of Hardin; grandparents, Alvin Morsette, Jr. of N.D., Geneva See Boy Morsette of Minn., Robert Chandler of Lodge Grass; George and Nelvette Siemion of Fort Smith and her great grandmother, Sarah Pretty Paint of Crow Agency. She was preceded in death by her grandmother, Erlise Chandler.
Private graveside services will be at the Lodge Grass cemetery. Bullis Mortuary of Hardin is entrusted with the arrangements.

Howard L. 'Sonny' Winkler
Howard L. "Sonny" Winkler, 67, died Saturday, Oct. 24, 1998, in Billings. He was born March 19, 1931, in Joliet, Mont. Howard was the son of Alice (Golden) Winkler and Howard R. Winkler. He attended grade school in Joliet, and graduated from Laurel High School. He also attended auto body school.
Howard was a surveyor and construction worker, and equipment operator for road and dam construction. He lived in Joliet, Laurel and Billings.
During World War II, he served in the United States Navy on the USS Boxer Aircraft Carrier as a Radar Technician from 1948 to 1952.
Howard had a passion for gardening and loved to hunt and fish. He was also a history buff, especially on America, Montana and the Old West.
Preceding Howard in death was a brother John Winkler and a sister Carol McCaully.
He is survived by three sisters: Dorothy Cerovski of Lewistown, Mont., Jean Brackery of Aptos, Calif., and Ilene Kimball of Alameda, Calif. He is also survived by numerous nephews and nieces, and also great nephew and nieces.
Funeral services will be held at Dahl Funeral Chapel at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 27. Interment will be at Mountview cemetery. Luncheon to follow. Memorials may be made to The American Lung Association, 825 Helena Ave., Helena, Mont. 59601, or New Hope Baptist Church, 824 North 19th, Billings, Mont. 59101.

Evelyn Jane French
HARDIN - Evelyn Jane French, 78, of Hardin passed away Wednesday, Oct. 21, 1998, after a brief stay in the Big Horn County Memorial Hospital.
She was born Jan. 17, 1920, in Choteau, a daughter of Bing and Emily Hanson Hodgskiss, in the middle of a blizzard and complained about the cold ever since. She attended schools in Choteau and enjoyed sports, including playing center on the basketball team. She later attended Montana State College in Bozeman, where she was a member of the Alpha Omicron Pi Sorority.
Evelyn enlisted in the US Navy in 1943, served with the WAVES during World War II and received her Honorable Discharge in 1946. She returned to Montana, moving to Hardin where she worked for the Campbell Farming Corporation, Big Horn County Assessor's Office, Hardin Lumber Company and French's Building Materials.
She married Troy A. French on April 6, 1947, in Hardin and she spent the next 51 years on one "grand adventure to the next" as a loving helpmate and navigator.
Evelyn was a lifetime member of the First United Methodist Church, 50-year member of the Order of Eastern Star, a past American Legion Auxiliary member and a member of the Big Horn County Historical Society.
She loved creative times, painting and crafts; but most of all reminiscing. She treasured life and clung tenaciously to doing things the RIGHT way. She held her lifelong friends close to her heart. She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Margaret Ray.
Evelyn leaves behind her soulmate and heart buddy, Troy of Hardin; two daughters, Sandra (Pat) Breckenridge of Hardin and Carlah (Allen) Watson of Billings. She was the treasured grandmother of Keith Breckenridge and Kara (Lance) Letasky and soon to be great-grandchild. She is also survived by a sister, Lois Brusven of California and a brother, Jack Hodgskiss of California, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Monday in the Bullis Funeral Chapel with Eastern Star Rites. Cremation will follow the services. Private interment of the Ashes will follow at a later date.
Should friends desire, memorial contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church Building Fund (elevator), Hardin, MT 59034.
It's easy enough to be Pleasant when life flows along like a song - But the man worthwhile is the one who will smile, when everything goes wrong. The test of the heart is trouble and it always comes with the years. The smile that is worth the treasures of earth is the smile that shines through the tears.

Gladys I. Mauldin
GLASGOW - Gladys I. Mauldin, 97, died Saturday, Oct. 24, 1998, at the Valley View Nursing Home in Glasgow.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday, Oct. 26, 1998, at the First Baptist Church with burial in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Littleton, Colo. Bell Mortuary is in charge.

Miles W. Peterson
Miles W. Peterson, 88, died Thursday, Oct. 22, 1998, in Billings. Born Nov. 15, 1910, in Audubon, Minn., Miles was the son of Mathilda and Otto Peterson. He graduated from Detroit Lakes High School, attended Concordia College and was employed by Co-op in Wadena, Minn.
During World War II he served as a corporal in the Asiatic Pacific Theater. On Oct. 14, 1950, he married Pearl Anna Gustafson and they took up residence in Gresham, Ore., where he was treasurer of Milwaukee Plywood, and later grew berries. After retirement they moved to Portland, Ore.
Miles came to Billings in 1992 in order to be closer to relatives and moved into Primrose Personal Care Home in 1997.
Preceding Miles in death was his wife, Pearl; his brothers, Oliver and Neander Peterson, Billings; and sisters, Edith Peterson, San Francisco, and Hazel Joscelyn, Missoula.
Miles is survived by numerous nieces and nephews: Carol Joyce Dale, Phyllis Barth and Karen Robinson, Billings, Hazel Walter, Forsyth, Mary Wallace, Sierra Vista, Ariz., Edith Fisher and Alden Joscelyn, Missoula, Ron Gustafson, Lafayette, La.; and a special cousin, Sylvia Anderson, San Diego, Calif.
A memorial service will be held 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 27, at the Messiah Lutheran Church. Dahl Funeral Chapel is in charge of cremation. Memorials may be made to Messiah Lutheran Church, 2939 Colton, 59102, or Primrose Personal Care, 1228 Maurine, 59105.

James 'Jim' Rosenbeck
STEPTOE, Wash. - Funeral services for James "Jim" Rosenbeck, a Steptoe-Colfax area resident, will be held in the Jennings Elementary School gymnasium of Colfax, Wash., on Monday, Oct. 26, 1998, at 2 p.m. with Bishop Cary Cammack officiating. Interment will follow at Bethel cemetery of Steptoe, Wash.
Jim died at the Whitman Hospital and Medical Center of Colfax on Oct. 22, 1998 at the age of 52, after fighting cancer the past year.
Jim was born on March 31, 1946 in Missoula, Mont., son of Frank and Louise Bradshaw Rosenbeck. He spent his early life in Drummond, Mont., where he attended school through the fifth grade. The family then move to Superior, Mont., where Jim graduated from high school in 1964. He received his Bachelors Degree from Eastern Montana University in Billings, Mont., and his Masters Degree from Montana State University in Bozeman, Mont. He then taught in Billings for approximately nine years before moving to St. Maries, Idaho, where he was principal until coming to Colfax in 1979. Jim has been principal of Jennings Elementary School for the past 19 years, until the time of his death.
Jim married Judy Shennum in Circle, Mont., on Nov. 29. 1968. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and served as President of the Colfax Ward for 71/2 years.
Surviving is his wife, Judy, at the family home in Steptoe, Wash.; and four children, Kelly Richardson of Portland, Ore., and Jim Sarah and Steve Rosenbeck all of Colfax, Wash. Jim was preceded in death by his parents.
The family suggests memorials be gifts to the Jim Rosenbeck Fund c/o Seafrist Bank, 102 N. Main, Colfax, WA, 99111. The funds will then be given to Jennings Elementary School for educational programs and projects.

Isabelle Lyman Sanders
LOVELL, Wyo. - Isabelle Lyman Sanders, 89, died Friday, Oct. 23, 1998, at New Horizons Care Center in Lovell.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 28, 1998, in the Burlington LDS Chapel, Burlington, Wyo., with burial in the Otto, Wyo., cemetery. Haskell Funeral Home of Lovell is in charge.

Raymond Maurice Smith
LODGE GRASS - Raymond M. (Smitty) Smith, 77, died at home on the ranch he loved on Friday, Oct. 23, 1998. He was of slight build, tough as leather and strong of heart. He was born on June 3, 1921, at Gillette, Wyo., the second son of Maurice Warfield Smith and Ruby Fox Smith. In 1928 when he was 7 years old, the family moved to Lodge Grass where he continued his education at the Lodge Grass schools. He enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1942 and for three years he was a tail gunner on a B26 plane and flew 25 missions in Europe during World War II, and was involved in much fighting on those missions. He was promoted to Sergeant and honorably discharged in 1945.
He returned to Lodge Grass to the family ranch doing the thing he loved. He married Ramona R. Roth on Dec. 21, 1952, at Lodge Grass and for 45 years they lived on the ranch having no desire to move to any other area, wanting instead to reside in the beautiful Little Big Horn Valley. He seemed to thrive raising his Registered Columbia sheep, horses, shetland ponies and cattle. He was able to see his spring calves born and grown before cancer took his life. He and Ramona felt blessed to be able to raise their daughters, Becky, Christie and Abby on the ranch so all three are very able helpmates for their husbands. His work off the ranch included working for Holly Sugar Corp. in Hardin for many sugar beet campaigns. He also worked for the Montana Dept. of Highways and Standard Oil Co. driving gas and propane trucks all over the Crow Indian Reservation befriending many people. He was known for his quick wit, good sense of humor and friendliness. He was always willing to lend a helping hand to a neighbor whenever his help was needed, especially during branding time and shipping or working cattle. He liked to travel the country and camp in the Big Horn Mountains with his family. He loved his family and was devoted to each one. He supported 4-H throughout the years and always enjoyed watching the 4-H members show their animals at the fairs, especially his own children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He recently became a member of Faith Baptist Church of Lodge Grass and joined the fellowship there.
His parents preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife, Ramona of Lodge Grass, Becky and Wayne Torske of Hardin, Christie and Richard Benzel of Hardin, Abby and Doug Greenwalt of St. Xavier; grandchildren, April Torske of UM in Missoula, Casey Torske and Darcy Torske of Hardin, Sara Greenwalt of Hardin, Stacie Greenwalt of U of Utah in Salt Lake City, Utah, and Matthew Benzel of Billings; his brother and sister-in-law, Bill and Trudy Smith of Redmond, Ore.; numerous nieces, nephews and many friends and neighbors.
Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at the Little Brown Church in Lodge Grass where he and Ramona were married almost 46 years ago. Cremation will follow. Cremation or Funeral Gallery is in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be made to the Big Horn Co. 4-H Council, 121 W. 3rd St., Hardin, MT 59034.

Jack L. Tennant
Jack L. Tennant, 72, of Billings, passed away Friday, Oct. 23, 1998, at home of emphysema. He was born Aug. 21, 1926, in Wibaux, the son of Howard and Grace Rogers Tennant.
Jack enjoyed his many friends he was associated with in his tree and stump removal business.
He is survived by two daughters, Connie Emery of Billings and Randeen Cummings of Eugene, Ore.; seven grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Lee and Ted Tennant and two sisters, Helen Anderson and Delores Hager, all of Glendive; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruby; his father, Howard Tennant; his mother, Grace Serdotz; and two brothers.
A vigil will be held 7 p.m. Tuesday and Funeral Mass 1 p.m. Wednesday at Little Flower Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Holy Cross cemetery. Cremation or Funeral Gallery is in charge of arrangements.

Altha Bernice VanAken
LIVINGSTON - Altha Bernice VanAken, 78, died Friday, Oct. 23, 1998, at the Livingston Memorial Hospital.
Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 27, 1998 at Franzen-Davis Funeral Home in Livingston. Graveside committal and burial will be in Mountain View cemetery.

Henry 'Hank' Bull Chief Sr.
ST. XAVIER - Henry "Hank" Bull Chief Sr., 84, St. Xavier area resident, died Thursday, Oct. 22, 1998, in the Awe Kaalwaahe Care Center in Crow Agency.
He was born Sept. 20, 1914, near St. Xavier, a son of Michael Bull Chief and Susie Spotted. He grew up in the St. Xavier area and was raised by Bird Horse and Medicine Woman. He received his education at the War Man School.
During the 1930s, Henry worked for the Civilian Conservation Corps as a heavy equipment operator, building roads throughout the Crow reservation. During World War II, he worked in Washington state and later assisted with the construction of the Hanaford Nuclear Plant. Returning to the St. Xavier area, he worked on the construction of Yellowtail Dam and worked for the Bureau of Reclamation, retiring in 1964.
Henry married Elizabeth Gun Shows on April 14, 1940, in St. Xavier and the couple made their home in St. Xavier. Elizabeth died in 1988.
He was a born again Christian, who attended numerous Pentecostal churches in the area. He was a member of the Greasy Mouth Clan and a child of the Piegan Clan.
Henry was preceded in death by two sons, Roland and Harry Bull Chief; one sister, Marie Reed; and three brothers and one sister with whom he was raised, Josie Little Light, Paul Hill, Paul Nomee and Jim Carpenter.
Survivors include two daughters, Ramona (Chris) LaRance of St. Xavier and Doreen (Irving) Afraid of Bear of Fort Smith; four sons, Henry (Jamie) Bull Chief Jr. of St. Xavier, Lionel (Fany) Bull Chief of Salt Lake City, Utah, Jerry Dean (Lena) Bull Chief of Lodge Grass and Duane (Anita) Bull Chief of Hardin; his Tobacco Society adopted mother, Winona Plenty Hoops; one sister, Sarah Pretty Paint; one brother, Clem Goes Ahead; 17 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren; six adopted children, Nancy Dufrane, Peggy Polito, Ava Glenn, George Riddle, Tony Jean Plain Bull and Allen Plain Bull.
Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Saturday in the Bullis Funeral Chapel. Interment will follow in the Lodge Grass cemetery. Bullis Mortuary of Hardin has been entrusted with the arrangements.
