Grandma Jo
(Josephine O'Leary)
We believe Josephine's time in Billings was all about her knowing and loving her Grandchildren Patrick, (Mr. Patrick), Bridgett, (her princess) and Kelly, (her sunshine). They have provided this summary of their memories of Grandma.
About my Grandma Jo O'Leary's death. Jo was a nice person. She had chocolate bars, Butterfingers and Nestley bars. She wanted to die so she could be with Grandpa Mike. She had fun toys that she gave us after Grandpa Mike died. And when she died we got the things that we gave her. Grandma yelled at Charlie, her dog in Butte, when I let him loose. Grandma Jo was really, really funny. And she was sometimes cranky. Mom said when we visited Grandma we had to ask Grandma two questions about her life before we went home. My Mom started crying when Dad came home and told us that Grandma died. That's all I have to say. Written by Kelly Lea O'Leary, age 7.
My Grandmother. My Grandmother died two days after Christmas. She lived in a nursing home down the street from my house. Whenever we walked the dogs down there we'd always get a Kit Kat bar. Whenever we got her a gift she always acted like she knew that it would not work for her. One time when I was just about to leave her house in Butte I noticed that I had the hiccups. She told me how to get rid of them by taking a glass of water, putting a washcloth over it and drink it with the washcloth over it. But you have to drink the whole glass of water. It worked! Written by Bridgett Marie O'Leary, age 9.
A Small Afterthought. Grandma Jo always seemed to want or need something, but she made it clear that she didn't need it right away. She was never crabby at anyone else but herself (or her health) and was always nice and loving when children were around. A nice thing that she said was "If you bless yourself from head to toe three times before you go to bed you will not have nightmares." I've never had one since. I will miss you, Grandma. Patrick Michael O'Leary, age 13.
We will all miss you, Josephine. Say "hi" to Grandpa. God bless you.
Memorials in lieu of flowers to Big Sky Hospice.
