Fred Buerkle

PLEVNA - Fred Buerkle, 76, of Plevna, went to be with the Lord on Dec. 3, 1998.
As he requested, he died at home surrounded by his family.
Fred was born north of Plevna on May 11, 1922, the son of Wilhelm and Carolina (Krueg) Buerkle.
He attended Lincoln country grade school and graduated from the Plevna High School.
He worked at home during his father's illness and later at Great Falls Air Base.
He returned to this area to take care of his ill mother.
Fred was employed at Montana Dakota Utilities Co. where he met Norma J. Coons.
They were married on Sept. 28, 1949, and have made their home on a farm north of Plevna raising their children.
Fred held many positions in the community, including trustee and treasurer of the Emmanuel Evangelical Free Church for 26 years, a board member and secretary of the Plevna Grain Elevator, the county ASCS chairman and committeeman, Honorary FFA Chapter Farmer, school and church building committeeman, and board member for Farmer's Union Oil Co., Little Beaver Soil Conservation, Plevna School Board, Mid-Rivers Telephone Corp, Baker Livestock and Fallon County Hospital.
Survivors include: his wife, Norma of Plevna; his four children and their spouses: Kathy and Clyde Leischner of Miles City, Danny and Lana Buerkle of Plevna, Carol and Mike Larson of Plains, and Don and Lesley Buerkle of Baker; two brothers, Bill Buerkle and his wife, Martha of Sun City, Ariz., John Buerkle and his wife, Lorene of Plevna; and a sister-in-law, Betty Buerkle of Plevna; his grandchildren, Brent Leischner and his wife, Julie, Aaron Leischner, Bradn, Bryan, Britt and Brook Buerkle, Matt, Nate and Tessa Larson, Andrea and Brandon Buerkle, Shannon Hill, along with his great-granddaughter, Hannah Leischner were his special treasures.
Preceding him in death were his parents; an infant brother Jacob; a brother, Arthur; a sister, Rosa Fuchs; and a grandson, Matt Larson.
A Prayer Service will be held on Sunday, Dec. 6, at 7 p.m. at the Stevenson's Funeral Home in Baker.
A funeral will be held on Monday, Dec. 7, at 11 a.m. in the Emmanuel Evangelical Church in Plevna with Pastor Byrd Stillwell officiating.
Burial will be in the Community Union cemetery in Plevna.
Stevenson Funeral Home of Baker is in charge of the arrangements.

Nell M. Cloyd

LEWISTOWN - Nell M. Cloyd, 90, of Lewistown died early Friday morning in the Central Montana Medical Center of natural causes.
She was born Dec. 27, 1907, on the Cowan Ranch near Belgrade, the daughter of John P. and Nellie N. (Gray) Hahs.
She received her schooling in Manhattan, graduating from high school there.
In 1924 she was united in marriage to W.W. Cloyd.
They moved to Portland and she went to beauty school.
They returned to Montana, living in Sheridan where she operated a beauty shop until moving in 1936 to Livingston where he was a dentist.
In 1941, she moved to California and worked as a beautician. She retired in 1957 and moved back to Montana.
She lived in Sidney and worked for Turner Drug.
She later moved to Bozeman and worked for Roecher Drug retiring in 1973 when she moved to Lewistown.
Nell was a member of the United Methodist Church, Daughters of the Nile, Marie Chapter Order of Eastern Star and life member of Order of Eastern Star of Virginia City.
She is survived by one son, Jerry and his wife, Phyllis of Lewistown; one grandson, Rick and his wife, Betty in Pinson, Tenn.; two great-grandchildren: Stacey Hieb of Great Falls and Chris Cloyd of Pinson; and one great-great-grandson: Alex Cloyd of Great Falls.
Funeral Services for Nell M. Cloyd will be Tuesday at 1 p.m. in the Cloyd Chapel with interment to follow in the Lewistown City cemetery.
The Cloyd Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Friends may make memorials to the Community Cupboard or Central Montana Shrine Travel Fund and they may be left at the Cloyd Funeral Home.

Robert 'Bob' Dauenhauer

SPOKANE, Wash. - Robert "Bob" Dauenhauer, 48, passed away on Sunday, Nov. 8, 1998, in Spokane, following a heart attack.
Bob was born in Mott, N.D., on May 7, 1950, the son of John and Ann Dauenhauer.
He was raised and educated in Billings.
Following his graduation, Mr. Dauenhauer enlisted in the army and served in Vietnam.
He returned to Montana following his discharge and attended college at Missoula, later moving back to Billings where he lived and worked for many years.
Bob had lived in Spokane for the last several years.
Survivors include his mother, Ann Kuntz; brothers, Larry, Stan, Tim and Randy; and two sisters, LaVonne Bailey and Rose Hedrick.
He was preceded in death by his father, John Dauenhauer, and his stepfather, Bennie Kuntz.
Cremation has taken place. A funeral mass will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 9, at the St. Pius X Catholic Church with military honors to follow.
Private entombment of the urn will take place at a later date.

Oren J. Forthun

SIDNEY - Funeral services for Oren J. Forthun, 79, Sidney, will be 10 a.m. Monday, Dec. 7, 1998, at the Sidney Lutheran Brethren Church, with Pastor Bruce Vallevik officiating. Interment will be in the Riverview cemetery, Williston, N.D., under the direction of Fulkerson Funeral Home of Sidney.
Oren Julius Forthun was born on Feb. 11, 1919, to Julius and Golda "Slagle" Forthun on the family farm by Alexander, N.D., graduating in 1936.
While going to school in Alexander, he and three other boys boarded with Eva Stevenson.
When Oren was 15 he started working summers for Anders Madson on the Bird Head Ranch at the Fort Berthold Reservation.
He went on to further his education at Billings Poly Tech in Billings and North Dakota State University in Fargo.
Oren married Bernada Madson on Oct. 22, 1939, in Fargo.
They made their home on the Bird Head ranch. Oren and Bernada were members of the drill team for the Badland Saddle Club, performing all over the state.
They raised and showed registered Hereford cattle. Oren had three children, Barbara Bernada (Martin) and James Oren Forthun and Helen Slagle (Verhasselt).
Bernada passed away in 1958.
Oren sold the ranch in 1972 after the Garrison Dam flooded the ranch.
He moved to Sidney where he worked for the ASC office and did census for Richland County.
Oren also worked several years at the Sidney sales ring. He and his brother Bill had a business, Forthun Feed and Lumber, for several years.
Oren enjoyed his garden and loved to make sauerkraut. He always shared his vegetables with all of his friends.
For a couple of years Oren helped Bud Starr with his three-acre garden, loved every minute of it.
He loved picking choke cherries every summer and making syrup.
Oren also enjoyed hunting and bowling.
He attended the Lutheran Brethren Church in Sidney.
Oren died Thursday, Dec. 3, 1998, at the Home Sweet Home, assisted living, Sidney.
Oren is survived by his children, Barbara (Paul) Martin of Coleman, Okla., James Oren (Jane) Forthun of Lyman, Wyo., and Helen Slagle (Duane) Verhasselt of Bismarck, N.D.; brother, William (Edna) of Alexander, N.D.; sister, Eula Vaughn (Ed) Tangsrud of Minot, N.D.; seven grandchildren, Shawn (Gwen) Martin of Watford City, N.D., Shannon Martin of Atoka, Okla., Scott (Janelle) Martin of Durant, Okla., Aaron Forthun of Helena, Austin, Aspen and Anthony Verhasselt of Bismarck; and five great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Bernada; his brothers, Vernon and Stanley.

Lucille E. Hunter

Lucille E. Hunter, 74, died Thursday, Dec. 3, 1998, at Aspen Meadows Retirement Community.
Cremation will take place and graveside services will be at a later date in Mountview cemetery.

Gladys Hatty Janes

GREYBULL, Wyo. - Gladys Hatty Janes, 91, died Thursday, Dec. 3, 1998.
Cremation has taken place.
Memorial funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday, Dec. 7, at the First Baptist Church in Basin.
Interment of the cremated remains will be at a later date in the Pilot Butte cemetery in Bend, Ore.
Atwood Family Funeral Directors Inc. are in charge.

Albert L. Pyle

Albert Louis Pyle, 77, died Tuesday, Dec. 1, 1998, at his home.
Memorial and interment of cremated remains will take place later in Whatcheer, Iowa.
Cremation or Funeral Gallery was in charge.

M. Doreen 'Dee' Rhodes

M. Doreen "Dee" Rhodes, 72, of Billings, passed away Friday morning, Dec. 4, 1998, at Saint Vincent Hospital.
The daughter of Thomas and Euphemia Robinson Mason, she was born in Alberta Canada, June 7, 1926.
She lived in Cut Bank for 18 years, where she taught third and fourth grade elementary school.
While in Cut Bank, Dee was active in various community services and activities.
In 1953, she married Robert Rhodes in Red Deer, Alberta, Canada.
They moved to Billings in 1971, where Dee taught elementary schools in Shepherd while earning her master's in Special Education from Eastern Montana College.
Dee retired from teaching in 1988.
Throughout her teaching career, she taught in Alberta, Canada; Honduras and Montana.
She was a member of P.E.O. Among her many hobbies, she was an avid golfer and enjoyed playing bridge and bowling.
Survivors include her husband, Bob of Billings; her daughter, Liane Forrester and her husband, Bill of Dillon; her sons, Thomas R. Rhodes and his wife, Laura of Redwood City, Calif., and Gregg D. Rhodes and his wife, Christina of Renton, Wash.; and her six grandchildren, Tyler and Bob, Michael and Steven, and Marina and Alanna.
Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held 1 p.m. Monday, Dec. 7, at Michelotti, Sawyers & Nordquist Alderson Chapel.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Northern Rockies Cancer Center, 1041 N. 29th, Billings, MT 59101 or Big Sky Hospice, P.O. Box 35033, Billings, MT 59107.

Mary Ann Rodriguez

Mary Ann Rodriguez, 84, of Billings, passed away Thursday afternoon, Dec. 3, 1998, at Parkview Convalescent Center.
She was born in McQueeney, Texas, on March 25, 1914.
Mary was raised and educated in McQueeney, and following her education, worked as a seamstress with her grandmother.
On Aug. 16, 1940, she married Manuel Rodriguez Sr. Mary and Manuel moved to Fromberg in 1968 and on to Billings in 1972, where they resided since. Manuel preceded her in death on Aug. 22, 1991, in Billings.
Mary was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother and her family meant everything to her.
She loved her flowers and her yard and enjoyed keeping her home very neat and tidy.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by several brothers and sisters.
Survivors include her sons, James Rodriguez Sr., Frank Rodriguez and John Rodriguez, all of Billings, and Manuel Rodriguez Jr. of New Mexico; her daughters, Rosa Whitcher of Billings and Mary Espinosa of Fromberg; 24 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held 3 p.m. Monday, Dec. 7, at Michelotti, Sawyers & Nordquist Alderson Chapel with interment in Holy Cross cemetery.

Ariana Graciella Gaytan

Ariana Graciella Gayton, infant daughter of Tami (Schaaf) and Manuel Gaytan, died on Thursday, Dec. 3, 1998, at St. Vincent Hospital.
She is survived by her parents; grandparents, Loren and Connie Schaaf, Evie and Bob Erickson and Xavier and Graciella Gaytan; and numerous aunts and uncles. She will live in our hearts forever.
Graveside services will be held 10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 4, 1998, at Holy Cross cemetery.
Dahl Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Fred Buerkle

PLEVNA - Fred Buerkle, 76, died Thursday, Dec. 3, 1998, at the family farm north of Plevna of cancer.
A prayer service will be at 7 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 6, at Stevenson's Funeral Home in Baker.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 7, at the Emmanuel Evangelical Church with interment in the Community Union cemetery.
