Benjamin Lee Thomas
ROUNDUP - Benjamin Lee Thomas, 71, passed away March 20, 1999, at Roundup Memorial Hospital.
He was born Oct. 30, 1927, at Post, Texas, the son of Toliver and Innis Thomas. He attended school at Post, graduating in 1945. He joined the U.S. Army in 1946 and upon completion of Surgical Tech School at Denver, he served with the 183rd General Hospital, Fort Richardson, Alaska. While there he met Dulcie Darlene Rabern and they were married in Anchorage on May 11, 1947. She was his lifelong mate and favorite dancing partner - an activity they both greatly enjoyed.
After an honorable discharge in 1947, Ben spent most of his life as a cowboy, riding bulls, operating many ranches - including the Nebraska Feeding Co. - and later owning and training race horses.
He loved to make people laugh with his humorous way of telling stories of the old west, its heroes, and of the ordinary people he knew. Among his favorite things to do were gardening, fishing, reading and cheering for his "Braves" and "Cowboys." Ben will always be remembered by his family and friends for his generous nature and kind heart.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Dulcie; one son, Richard "Dusty" Thomas; his parents, Toliver and Innis; and a sister, Lois. Survivors include three daughters, Sandi (Mickey) Schmidt of Bessemer, Ala., Ginger (Steve) Moore of Winnett, Sheridan (Jon) LaFramboise of Rapid City, S.D.; one son, Scott (Angie) Thomas of Laurel; three brothers, Jim of Hereford, AC of Amarillo, Wayne of Post; one sister, Kat of Post; one brother-in-law, Bud Rabern of Winnett; 13 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, March 25, 1999, at 11 a.m. at the Wier Funeral Chapel in Roundup. Interment will follow at the I.O.O.F. cemetery. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or charity of choice. Wier Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
On parting or ending a phone call, Ben never said "Goodbye, " so it's appropriate to say farewell the way he always did.
Adios Gramps!
