Floyd J. Jarvis

LEXINGTON - Floyd Jackson Jarvis, 85, of Little Rock Ave. died June 5, 2008, at Lexington Memorial Hospital.

Funeral will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday at Freedom Baptist church. Visitation will be from 1:30 to 3 p.m. Sunday at the church.

Davidson Funeral Home of Lexington is assisting the family.

Helen Anderson

LEXINGTON - Helen Louise Anderson, 95, left this earthly world on Thursday, June 5, 2008.

Funeral Services will be 3:00 PM Sunday, June 8, 2008 at First United Methodist Church, where she was a devoted lifetime member, conducted by Dr. Jim Martin. Interment will follow in Forest Hill Memorial Park.

Helen was born in Lexington on May 20, 1913 to the late Leonard C. Anderson and Sue Myers Anderson. She was one of eight children. She graduated from Lexington High School in 1930, where she starred on the girl's basketball team. She retired from working as a law secretary for P.V. Critcher. After retirement, she resumed her career at Davidson County Court House, retiring again in her seventies. Several weeks ago, over 50 friends and family, ages two to 90, helped celebrate her 95th birthday, complete with a clown. She absolutely loved it and said it was the best birthday of her life. Helen was a talented, active, independent woman. She loved to crochet and knit, making Christmas stocking and ornaments for her entire family. Helen loved and helped care for her many nieces and nephews, as well as their children and grandchildren. She remained active in the lives of the little ones in her neighborhood. She was tenderly cared for her by her special sister in law, Cloie Anderson, and Wanda and Autumn Cox. Many will miss her.

Helen is survived by a sister, Ruth Anderson Murray of Cuyahoga, Ohio.

The family will receive friends Sunday one hour prior to the service in the Fellowship Hall of First United Methodist Church.

In lieu of Flowers, Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church, 310 South Main Street, Lexington, NC 27292 or to Davidson County Cancer Services, 503 West Center Street, Lexington, NC 27292.

Arrangements are under the Direction of Piedmont Funeral Home.

Paul O. Lanier

LEXINGTON - Paul Odell Lanier, 75, of Bethesda Drive died June 5, 2008, at his home.

Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Bethesda United Methodist Church. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 tonight at Davidson Funeral Home, Lexington.

Paulette Johnson

TRINITY - Mrs. Paulette Henderson Johnson, 85, resident of 200 Maynard Drive, died Friday, June 6, 2008, at the Evergreens Nursing Center. A native of Union County, SC, she was born January 14, 1923, a daughter to George W. and Alice Willard Henderson. She had lived most of her life in this area and was a member of Eastchester Church of Christ. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Allen G. Johnson in 1963, a daughter; Betty Kennedy in 2007 and a grandson; David Kennedy in 2000.

Paulette is survived by three children; Mary Ingram and husband Richard of Trinity, Virginia Elliott and her husband Horace and Elizabeth Brewer and her husband Ray all of Thomasville and a son-in-law; Jimmy Kennedy of Archdale. Eight grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren, also survive her.

Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Monday, June 9, 2008 in the chapel of Cumby Funeral Service in Archdale with Rev. Jack Johnston officiating. Burial will follow in Floral Garden Park cemetery. The family will receive friends and relatives Sunday from 4:00 to 5:30 p.m. at the funeral home.

Milton Huggins

NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. - Mr. Milton Huggins, age 63, died Tuesday June 3, 2008, following a sudden illness. Born November, 15, 1944, in Loris, SC, he was the son of Mr. Samuel Eugene Huggins and Mrs. Ivran Mae Graham Huggins. Mr. Huggins retired from retail furniture sales and was of the Baptist Faith.

Survivors include his wife: Pam Huggins of North Myrtle Beach, SC; two sons: Greg Huggins and wife Megann and Jeffrey Huggins and wife Liz all of High Point, NC; one grandson: Caleb Huggins of High Point, NC; one brother: J. E. Huggins of Loris, SC; four sisters: Carolyn Holmes of Columbia, SC, Candy Fowler of Loris, SC, Joyce Register, and Dot Gore both of Whiteville, NC.

Mr. Huggins was predeceased by his parents and one brother Ernest Huggins.

No services are planned at this time.

Perry Floyd Jr.

GREENSBORO - Mr. Perry Jasper Floyd, Jr., 62, a resident of 4331 Hewitt St. passed away on Wednesday, June 4, 2008, at his home. Born in Davidson County on January 22, 1946 to Perry Jasper and Ninevah Goad Floyd, he had made his home in this area for his entire life. He was a US Navy veteran and was an employee in the meat department at Costco.

Surviving are his daughter, Kimberly R. Floyd of High Point, son, Perry J. Floyd , III and his wife Shaun of Kernersville, sisters, Linda S. Hancock and husband Raymond, and Donna F. Tester and husband Donald all of Thomasville, and Pam Reynolds and husband Tim of Pfafftown, three grandchildren, Peiper R. Floyd, Halley Barfield, and Hunter Barfield.

Graveside services will be on Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. at The Veterans National cemetery in Salisbury with a military chaplain officiating. There will be no formal visitation but friends may pay their respects at their convenience at J.C. Green and Sons Funeral Home in Thomasville.

John Farrington Jr.

GREENSBORO - Mr. "Johnny" A. Farrington, Jr., 69, passed away in the early morning hours of Sunday, June 8, 2008 at his home with his family by his side.

Funeral service will be held Tuesday, June 10, 2008 at 2 p.m. at Community Baptist Church with Pastor J.R. Gossett officiating. Burial will follow the service at Burnett's Chapel United Methodist Church.

Born July 6, 1938 to the late Cora and Alex Farrington, John served his country proudly from 1956-1959 in the United States Army. He was employed as a driver for Tip Top Bakery and Coca Cola USA.

Mr. Farrington was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Arville, Ted, and Wayne; sisters Ila Mae Smith and Betty Hyatt; and two infant sisters.

John is survived by his wife of 48 years, Becky Tucker Farrington; daughter Ann Teague (Jimmy); son Bobby Farrington (Sue); grandsons James Kelly and Erik Lee Teague; brothers Tommy Farrington (Jewel), of Greensboro and Clarence Farrington, of Florida; sisters Dorothy Lee Highfill (Ray), of Level Cross and Cleo Johnson (Randall), of High Point; and foster sister Trudy Trogdon (Dalton), of Franklinville.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. today at George Brothers Funeral Service.

A special "Thank You" is extended to Dr. Phillip Nahser and his nurse Beth, as well as Hospice nurse Wendy Graham.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of Greensboro, 2500 Summit Ave., Greensboro, NC 27405, 336-621-2500.

Phyllis Hill

LEXINGTON - Phyllis Poston Hill, 61, of Hampton Road died Saturday, June 7, 2008, at Forsyth Medical Center.

A graveside service will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Forest Hill Memorial Park. Family will receive friends at the home of the son, Keith Hill, in Winston-Salem.

Davidson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

David Steele

HIGH POINT - Mr. David J. Steele, 63, died Saturday, June 7, 2008, at High Point Regional Health System. People's Funeral Service Inc. is in charge of arrangements.

Eddie Oneil Dawkins

HIGH POINT - Mr. Eddie Oneil Dawkins, 77, of 1203 Camden Avenue, was born on August 13, 1930, in Newberry, S.C., to the late Eddie and Florence Dawkins Sr.

After three years of declining health, he went to his heavenly home on June 4, 2008.

"Neil," as he was affectionately known to his family and friends, attended public schools in Dillon, S.C., and later moved to High Point. He was married to the former Melinda Jane Carmichael, and from this union, four children were born. After fifty years of unemployment, he retired from APAC Paving, formerly known as Thompson Author Paving Co.

Mr. Dawkins Loved the Lord and was a faithful member of First Emmanuel Baptist Church, where he served on the Senior Usher Board No. 1, Junior Deacon Board and United Usher Board.

In addition to his parents, his wife, two sons, Dwight and Roy Dawkins, sister Annie Laura McFadden and brother, Jim Chaplin preceded him in death.

Surviving to cherish his memories are one son, Carl (Tracy) Dawkins of Brooklyn, N.Y.; one daughter, Maggie (Harry) Gray of the home; 14 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and 8 great-great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral service will be held today at 1 p.m. at First Emmanuel Baptist Church, 831 Leonard Ave., with Pastor Lawrence Curtis officiating and eulogist. Burial will follow at Carolina Biblical Gardens. Visitation will be held 30 minutes prior to the service at the church and other times at the residence.

Helen Maxwell

THOMASVILLE - Mrs. Helen Lucille McGee Maxwell, 79, a resident of 711 English St., died Saturday, June 7, 2008 at Britthaven of Davidson. She was born on March 10, 1929 in Davidson County to Henry Lee McGee and Mary Hedrick McGee. She retired from G & M Floor Covering and was a member of Hillside Park Baptist Church.

On February 21, 1948, she married Donald Maxwell, who survives of the home; also surviving are her son, Michael Lee Maxwell and his wife Sheila of Thomasville; and a granddaughter, Heather Maxwell Adams and her husband Chris of Lexington.

A funeral service will be on Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. at the J.C. Green & Sons Funeral Home Chapel in Thomasville with Dr. Steve Chipps and Rev. Donnie Lunsford officiating. Interment will follow in Holly Hill Memorial Park cemetery. The family will be at the funeral home today from 6-8 PM and at other times at the home.

Emma Lou Fraylick

THOMASVILLE - Emma Lou Jarvis Bass Fraylick died June 5, 2008, at the home of her granddaughter, Marsha Lou Bolen.

She was born Aug. 16, 1908.

Family will greet well-wishers at Park Place Baptist Church, 210 Kern St., 6:30-8:30 p.m. Friday. A memorial service will be held there at 2 p.m. Saturday.

Christopher S. Moore

TRINITY - Mr. Christopher Stephen "Chris" Moore, 35, of 3841 Greenway Drive, died Friday, June 6, 2008. A native of Florence, South Carolina, he was born on December 18, 1972, a son of Stephen B. Moore and Charlene Barefoot Schneider. On April 9, 1994, he married the former Debra Nicole French. Chris attended Trinity Schools was employed with Valspar and was a member of Trindale Community Church. He enjoyed outdoor activities including scuba diving and fishing and time with his children.

He is survived by his wife; Nikki Moore, children; Hayley Nicole, Brittani Christina and Mia Kaydith all of the home, mother; Charlene B. Schneider and stepfather Greg of Jefferson City, Missouri, father; Stephen Moore of Archdale, maternal grandmother; Frances Barefoot of Columbia, South Carolina, sister; Stephanie McDonald and her husband Brian of Archdale, brother Patrick Moore and his fiancée Lisa Banks of Lexington; nieces Grace Anna McDonald, Sophie Marie McDonald and Keira Reese Moore; an aunt, Babs Farmer, and her husband John of Columbia,

S.C.; and uncle Jerry Moore and his wife Ann of Lexington, S.C.

Funeral services will be conducted 3 PM Tuesday at Trindale Community Church with Rev. Ottis Collins officiating. Burial will follow in Gray's Chapel cemetery. The family will receive friends and relatives 6:00-8:00 PM tonight at Cumby Family Funeral Service in Archdale. Pallbearers will be Brian McDonald, Andy Clodfelter, Ben Warren, Chris Bender, Rodney Harris and Andre' Johnson.

Memorials may be directed to Victory Junction Gang Camp, 4500 Adam's Way, Randleman, NC 27317, or to the charity of the donor's choice. Arrangements by Cumby Family Funeral Service in Archdale.

Dale Roger Hill

LEXINGTON - Mr. Dale Roger Hill, 63, of Old N.C. 109 died Saturday, June 7, 2008, at his residence.

Family will see friends 1-2 p.m. Tuesday at Briggs Funeral Home in Denton. Funeral will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Briggs Funeral Home Memorial Chapel. Burial will follow at Walters Grove Baptist Church cemetery.

Aldine Hicks

HIGH POINT - Mrs. Aldine Linthicum Hicks, 90, of High Point died Saturday at her home. Born January 11, 1918 in Guilford County, Mrs. Hicks is a daughter of the late William Beamer Linthicum and Wilma Crisco Linthicum. She was a longtime member of Hayworth Wesleyan Church where she sang in the choir, taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School. Mrs. Hicks was also a charter member of Greenwood Hills Wesleyan Church. She will be remembered as a loving mother and grandmother and a nonjudgmental listener to family and friends. Mrs. Hicks was married to Sherman Lee Hicks on April 20, 1935. After 67 years of marriage, he preceded her in death in 2002. She was also preceded in death by a son Toby Lee Hicks in 1994.

Mrs. Hicks is survived by four children; Eric Martin "Ricky" Hicks and wife Kathy of Asheboro, Pamela Hicks Gilbert and husband Gary of High Point, Bonnie Hicks Hedgecock and husband Thomas of High Point and Melodie Field Dunigan and husband Michael of Oak Ridge. She is also survived by ten grandchildren; Brian Hicks and wife Michelle, Eric Hicks, Kevin Hicks and wife Cheryl, Gary Gilbert, Jr., Gennifer Hepler and husband Andrew, Carrie Ann Lambert and husband Jeromy, Kimberly Hedgecock, Kayla Hedgecock, Hanna Dunigan, Brock Dunigan and three great grandchildren; Jordan Keith Hicks, Austin Lee Hicks and Abigail Leighann Hicks and her two best friends Charlie and Molly.

Funeral services for Mrs. Hicks will be held 11 am Tuesday at Hayworth Wesleyan Church with the Rev. Kim Fowler officiating. Interment will follow in Floral Garden Memorial Park. The family will receive friends tonight from 6:00 until 8:00 pm at Cumby Family Funeral Service in High Point.

The family requests that memorials be given to the Building Fund at Hayworth Wesleyan Church, 1696 Westchester Drive, High Point, NC 27262 or in memory of Sherman Lee Hicks to the Alzheimer's Association, 3800 Shamrock Drive, Box 999, Charlotte, NC 28215. Ralph D. Gibson

ASHEBORO - Ralph Donald Gibson, age 70, of 320 Vancroft St., Asheboro died Monday, July 28, 2008, at High Point Regional Hospital.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, July 31, 2008, at 11:00 a.m. at Maple Springs Baptist Church, 6012 Maple Springs Rd., Seagrove with the Rev. Howard McNeill and the Rev. Mark Hollar officiating and with military honors by the Randolph County Honor Guard.

Mr. Gibson was a native of Randolph County and was a U.S. Army veteran. He was a member of Maple Springs Baptist Church and was retired from the U.S. Postal Service after 30 years of service. He was preceded in death by his parents, John Wesley and Victoria Smith Gibson, brother, John Howard Gibson, and sister, Rachel Iris Gibson. Ralph was a loving husband, devoted father, and proud grandfather. He was always willing to lend a helping hand.

He is survived by his wife, Scottie Livingston Gibson; sons, Stephen Neal Gibson and his wife Kay of High Point, NC; Randy Wayne Gibson of Springfield, VA; daughter, Heather Gibson Marsh and her husband Tracy of Asheboro, NC; grandchildren, Jessica Gibson and Jordan Gibson both of High Point, NC; Blake Marsh of Asheboro; brothers, Stephen Leonard Gibson of Greensboro, NC; James Roger Gibson and his wife Ruth of Hickory, NC; sisters, Mary Rowan of Baltimore, MD; Laura "Avis" Gibson of High Point, NC; Ella Hayworth and her husband Hubert of Burlington, NC; and Lucy Varker and her husband Bill of Chesapeake, VA.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, July 30, 2008, from 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. at Pugh Funeral Home, 437 Sunset Avenue, Asheboro, NC.

Margaret Everhart

LEXINGTON - Margaret Whitlock Everhart, 85, of Hege Drive, formerly of Bethesda Road, died July 27, 2008, at her son's home.

Graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Thursday at Bethesda United Methodist Church cemetery. Visitation will follow the service in the Church Family Life Center.

Roy Clyburn

HIGH POINT - Mr. Roy Clyburn, 82, a residence of 420 Meredith Street, died Friday, July 25, 2008, at High Point Healthcare.

Mr. Clyburn was born December 2, 1925, in Union County. He was the grandson of Weary Clyburn, a slave from South Carolina, who also was a veteran of the Civil War, having fought with Confederate soldiers alongside his master's son. Roy attended The Governor Morehead School in Raleigh, and was formerly employed at the YMCA. A member of St. Christopher's Episcopal Church, he was supportive of the various programs there. His wife, Virginia Rice Clyburn, preceded him in death on March 7, 2006.

A host of relatives and friends join his aunt, Mattie Rice Clyburn, in mourning.

Funeral service will be conducted 10:00 a.m. Friday, August 1, 2008, at St. Christopher's Episcopal Church, 303 Eastchester Dr., with Rev. Kenneth C. Kroohs officiating. Entombment will follow at Piedmont Memorial Gardens, Winston Salem. Family visitation will be at the church Friday, 9:30 until 10:00 a.m. Public viewing will be at Haizlip Funeral Home Thursday, 9:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m.
