Flossie Nealey

THOMASVILLE - Flossie Lee Nealey, 79 passed away on Tuesdays July 29, 2008 at High Point Regional Hospital.

Flossie was born on July 26, 1929 in Columbus County to Dillon and Lilly Hinson Nealey.

Preceded in death by her parents, sisters Frosty Graves, Bernice Powell and brother Lacey Nealey.

Faithful member of the Thomasville Church of God, Flossie retired from Thomasville Furniture Industries.Survived by her loving husband Clarence Nealey of the home, sons; Larry Nealey and his wife Sandra of Trinity, Roger Nealey and his wife Sandra of Trinity, Dwight Nealey and his wife Becky of Thomasville, daughter Shannon Floyd and her husband Darrell of Thomasville, grandchildren; Jeffery Nealey, Katina Hooker, Leslie Hulin, Jennifer Burrow, Brian Nealey, Angela Nealey and Matthew Nealy, also 5 Great Grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 P.M. on Thursday July 31, 2008 at Family Funeral Care in Thomasville. A funeral service will be held 2:00 P.M. on Friday, August 1, 2008 at Thomasville Church of God with Pastor Ken Barnett and Reverend Avon Craven officiating, followed by interment in Holly Hill Memorial Park.

Bob Honbarrier Jr.

HIGH POINT - Robert Lee "Bob" Honbarrier, Jr., age 81, of 1528 Thornhill Drive, died early Sunday morning, August 17, 2008 at Pennyburn at Maryfield, where had been a resident for the past eight years and was known as the "King" and self proclaimed "Mayor" of Maryfield.

A resident of High Point most of his life, Bob was born June 1, 1927 in Denton a son of the late Robert Lee "Bob" Honbarrier and the late Daisy Daniel Honbarrier. After graduating from High Point Central High School, he joined the U. S. Army and served in Korea. Following military service he received his degree from High Point College (now High Point University). Bob first worked with Piedmont Airlines in Winston-Salem, where he met and later married Irene Bowers. He left Piedmont and returned to High Point to join the family business, Colonial Motor Freight Lines, retiring in 1983. A Mason and Scottish Rite Shriner, Bob was a member of Acacia Masonic lodge # 674 AF&AM, recently receiving his fifty year pin. He was a member of First Baptist Church, a past member of the High Point Civitian Club and a past member of the Exchange Club of High Point. A sister, Francis Honbarrier Davis, preceded him in death.

Surviving are his wife of fifty five years, Irene Bowers Honbarrier of the home; two sons, Reginald G. "Reggie" Honbarrier and his wife Mary of Wilmington and Roger B. Honbarrier and his wife Mary Scott of Wake Forest; two grandchildren, Britt Honbarrier Rimmele and her husband Ryan of Hoboken, New Jersey and Robert Scott Honbarrier of Wake Forest; two sisters, Roxie Honbarrier Workman of Charlotte and Carolyn Honbarrier White and her husband Jack of High Point; two brothers, Archie L. Honbarrier and his wife Louise of High Point and Billy Honbarrier of Baltimore, Maryland.

A funeral service, celebrating Bob's life, will be held at 3:00 pm Tuesday in First Baptist Church with Dr. Tim Cannon and Rev. David Goehring officiating. Burial will be in Floral Garden Memorial Park cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 pm until 8 pm at Cumby Family Funeral Service in High Point.

The family would like to express its appreciation to the sisters and staff at Maryfield.

Johnnie Mack

HIGH POINT - Mrs. Johnnie Mae Mack, 70, of 2004 Briarcliff Dr., entered eternal rest on Thursday, August 14, 2008 at her residence.

Mrs. Mack was born on November 30, 1937 to the late John and Louise Meeks Stroman in York County, South Carolina and she lived in Philadelphia, PA. over 30 years before returning here 15 years ago. She was a retiree of the Guilford County School System where she was employed as a cook. She joined in worship with Pearson Memorial A.M.E. Church where she was a faithful member of the Missionary Society.

Mrs. Mack was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, and grandmother.

She leaves to cherish precious memories a loving husband, John L. Mack of the home; one son, Elder Gregory Burris of High Point; two daughters, Barbara Meeks of Philadelphia, PA, and Gwendolyn Burris of High Point; six grandchildren; ten great grandchildren, one brother, Robert Lindsay of Philadelphia, PA; one sister, Mildred Gordon of McConnell, S.C.; special friend, Linda Fortson, of Philadelphia, PA, a host of adopted grandchildren, cousins, nieces, nephews, and treasured friends.

Funeral service will be 2:00 p.m. Tuesday at Pearson Memorial A.M.E., 805 E. Washington Drive with the Reverend Gwendolyn Benjamin officiating. Burial will follow at Oakwood Memorial Park. Family visitation will be at the church Tuesday, 1:30 to 2:00 and other times at the residence. Public viewing will be at Haizlip Funeral Home today from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.

George Marsh

HIGH POINT - Mr. George McCann Marsh died August 17, 2008.

George was born on September 4, 1921 in High Point, the son of J. Everette Marsh and Anne Carter Marsh. He graduated from High Point High School in 1938 and Davidson College in 1942 where he was a accomplished student/athlete and played both football and basketball. During World War II, he served in Italy, France and Germany, returning home in 1946 to marry Mollie Iceman Bowie from Monroe, NC. and to begin a 56-year career at Marsh Furniture Company. From a starting position in the company's Receiving Department, he became President of Marsh Furniture in 1978 and ultimately Chairman and CEO. He continued to be a member of its board of directors until 2002.

As devoted to the community as he was to his family and to Marsh Furniture, he was a life-long member of Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church. He served as board member of the YMCA from 1961 to 1967 and 1986 to 1992 and trustee in 1993. He served on the local board of NCNB from 1964-1989, the Chamber of Commerce Board from 1969-1975, the United Way Board, the advisory board of Cities In Schools, the board of the Presbyterian Home and as a trustee of the High Point Community Foundation. He had great love for Willow Creek Golf Club, which he helped organize in 1964, and a strong commitment to the High Point Regional Hospital on whose board he served off and on from 1975 through 1992, including years as Vice-Chairman and Chairman of the Board. He was one of the inaugural members of the High Point Community Foundation Board of Trustees. He was recognized as High Point's Citizen of the Year in 2002.

He is survived by Mollie Bowie Marsh, his wife and the love of his life for 62 years; his daughter Mollie Marsh Brugh and husband Pat of Charlotte; his daughter Anne Marsh Bernholz and husband Martin of Harkers Island; his daughter Nancy Marsh Johnson and husband Jay of Hickory; and grandsons George Graham Brugh, William Patton Brugh, Jr. and Jay Eulan Johnson III.

A memorial service will be held Wednesday at 11:00 in the sanctuary of Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church with Bishop Dr. Thomas B. Stockton and the Rev. Barry Osborne officiating. Visitation with the family will be held on Tuesday from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. in the Asbury Room of the church.

Doris Marquis

DARLINGTON, S.C. - Doris Robinson Marquis of 102 Woodhaven Drive, Darlington, South Carolina, died Sunday, August 17, 2008 at the home.

She was born in St. Albans, West Virginia, on 2 February 1927 and is predeceased by her parents, William H. Robinson and Odessa W. Robinson and by her husband, John Neilson Marquis, MD. She is survived by a sister, Phyllis Robinson Phillips of Charleston, West Virginia, a son, Amos A. Workman and his wife, Cecile B. Workman of Greenville, South Carolina, and a daughter Stephanie W. Pavik and her husband Steven G. Pavik of High Point, North Carolina. Also surviving are four grandchildren, Alan Workman and his wife Crystal M. Workman, John Parks Workman and his wife Rachel W. Workman, William J. Workman and John Stephen Pavik.

Mrs. Marquis was an active member of the Darlington Presbyterian Church. She was a social member of the Darlington Country Club and member of the Castallian Book Club. She was an accomplished organist and pianist. She played for years at churches in West Virginia and South Carolina. She also is well known for her annual blueberry harvest, where she regularly picked blueberries grown at her home and gifted them to her countless friends.

Following a private interment service, a memorial service will be held at the Darlington Presbyterian Church on Tuesday, August 19 at 2:00 p.m. directed by Belk Funeral Home. The family is at the home, 102 Woodhaven Drive, Darlington SC and will receive family and friends Monday, 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. The family asks that any memorials be made to the Darlington Presbyterian Church, 311 Pearl Street, Darlington, SC 29532 or the Lupus Foundation of America., SC Chapter, Post Office Box 1427, Easley, SC 29641.

Julie Wall

ARCHDALE - Ms. Julie Christine Wall, 41, resident of 10400 S. Main St. died August 16th, 2008 at High Point Regional Hospital.

Ms. Wall was born December 7th, 1966 in Rowan County, a daughter to J.D. and Elaine Efird Wall. A resident of this area most of her life, she had worked in child care with Gospel Baptist Church and John Lawrence Elementary School. Ms. Wall had a zest for life and a great sense of humor. She loved working with children and was a wonderful teacher. She loved her family greatly and though she battled illness she never quit fighting.

Surviving are her parents of Archdale; a brother, Ray Wall and wife Marcia of Shelby; a sister, Sharon Wilson of Randleman; two nephews, Steve Wilson and wife Kristy and Chris Wilson and wife Toni; a niece, Casey Vess and husband Nathan; a great niece, Anna Grace; a great nephew, Aiden; and Elizabeth Fragia affectionately know as Izzy, who was like the daughter she never had. She was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Charlie Wilson.

Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday at Gospel Baptist Church in High Point with Rev. Frank Gribble, Rev. Bobby Edwards and Rev. John Ferguson. Interment will follow in Floral Garden Park cemetery. Visitation will be 7-9:00 p.m. Monday at the Cumby Family Funeral Service in Archdale and other times at her parents home, 4906 Westhaven Ln. Trinity NC 27370.

Thomas Bonney

GREENSBORO - Thomas R. Bonney, 48, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, September 2, 2008, after a very courageous battle with cancer, in Greensboro, NC.

Born in Easton, PA, December 22, 1959, he was the son the late Ralph D. Bonny and Jean L. (Schlegel) Bonney of Bangor, PA.

He was a graduate of Bangor Area High School, class of 1977. He earned a Bachelor of Social Work in 1981 from Eastern College, St. David's, PA and a Masters of Social work in 1986 from Temple University, Philadelphia, PA. He received his certificate in Nonprofit Management from the University of Michigan.

He was President and CEO of Family Services of the Piedmont, with offices in Greensboro, Jamestown, and High Point, NC. Previously, he had been Chief Operating Officer of Family Service Association, a non-profit agency operation in seven counties in southern New Jersey.

His memberships included Board of Trustees of Children and Family Services of North Carolina, High Point Children's Cabinet, I Am Now Board of Directors, High Point Children's Initiative Council, High Point Arts Council, Rotary Club of Greensboro, the Nonprofit Consortium of Guilford County and the National Association of Social Workers. He was a lifelong member of Crossroads Baptist Church, formerly Mackey Memorial Baptist Church, Bangor, PA.

A Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Tom endeavored to administer programs that would positively impact children and families. He was a constant advocate for putting the needs of clients first.

He is survived by his mother Jean L. Bonney of Bangor, PA, his sister Ann L. Smith and her husband Richard C. of Bangor, and his beloved nephews, Dr. Ryan Smith and his wife Beth of Nazareth,PA and Michael Smith, Esq. and his fiancé Becky of Easton.

Graveside services will be held Sunday, September 7, 2008, at 1PM at East Bangor cemetery, East Bangor, PA. The Guerro & Ruggiero Funeral Home, 126 E. Pennsylvania Ave. Pen Argyl, PA is in charge of the arrangements.

It was Tom's wish that in lieu of flowers, any donations or expression of sympathy be sent in care of Family Services of the Piedmont, 902 Bonner Drive, Jamestown, NC, 27282.

Kimberly Dowell

WINSTON-SALEM - Kimberly Dawn Dowell, 27, of Winston-Salem, died Wednesday, September 3, 2008, as result of an automobile accident. She was the daughter of Nancy Houseman Bridge and the late Calvin Earl Dowell Sr.

Ms. Dowell was a 1999 graduate of Trinity High School, where she was a band member. She attended East Carolina University and was employed by Physicians Eldercare of Winston-Salem as a medical billing clerk.

Survivors include her mother, Nancy Bridge, and stepfather, Eric Bridge, of High Point; two sisters Paula Castle, Karla Bridge and five brothers Alan Dowell, Calvin Dowell Jr. George Dowell, Stephen Bridge, Andrew Bridge; her Aunts, Ada Houseman, Yetta Hoover, and Barbara Graham; one Uncle, Theodore Graham, Great-Aunt & Uncle Marie and Leroy Pulliam, and Cousins Angela Hoover, Chuck Hoover, Larry Houseman, Kristina Graham, Ted Graham, and many friends.

The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 pm Saturday at Sechrest Funeral Service of Archdale. The funeral will be held in the chapel of Sechrest in Archdale on Sunday at 2:00 pm, officiated by Father Jack Kelly. Burial will follow in Floral Garden Memorial Park in High Point.

Joe Vaughan

HIGH POINT - Mr. Joe E. Vaughan died September 4th, 2008 at Moses Cone Memorial Hospital.

He is survived by his wife Jane of High Point; two children, Angela Fary of Thomasville and Timothy Vaughan of Boiling Springs SC; three sisters; and four grandchildren, Megan and Matthew Fary of Thomasville and Brandon and Allyson Vaughan of Boiling Springs SC.

Funeral will be at 2:00 p.m. Sunday at Gate City Baptist Church in Jamestown. Interment will follow in Guilford Memorial Park cemetery. Visitation will be 7-8:30 p.m. Saturday at the Cumby Family Funeral Service in High Point. Memorials may be directed to Gate City Baptist Church Joy Group, 5250 Hilltop Rd. Jamestown NC 27282.

ASHEBORO - Ralf Meaded Hopper, 81, died Sept. 2, 2008.

Funeral will be held Sunday at 4 p.m. at West Asheboro Church of God. Visitation will be held Sunday from 3 to 4 p.m.

HIGH POINT - Ms. Annie Primus, 47, of High Point, died Sept. 5, 2008, at Moses H. Cone Hospital in Greensboro.

Rebecca Scott

HIGH POINT - Ms. Rebecca Ann Transeau Scott, 43, resident of 425 Friddle Dr. died September 4th, 2008 at her home.

Ms. Scott was born June 19th, 1965 in Guilford County, a daughter to Rev. Lee Roy and Imogene Brown Transeau. A resident of this area all her life, she was of the Baptist faith and worked as a cosmetologist. She was preceded in death by her father and a brother, Jesse Lee Transeau. Surviving is her mother, Imogene Pruitt and step-father Claude of Trinity; three children, Daylen Riley Scott and Brantley Ross Scott both of Burlington and Tristen Shane Carter of High Point; two sisters, Jeanette Transeau Kennedy of High Point and Susan Transeau Carroza of Trinity; and four brothers, Roy Michael Transeau of High Point, Roger Dale Transeau of Thomasville, Edwin Lafayette Transeau of Lexington and Rev. David Wayne Transeau of Daytona Beach FL.

Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday at Shady Grove Baptist Church in Trinity with Rev. Bobby Blackburn and Rev. Roger Williams officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be 7-9:00 p.m. Sunday at the Cumby Family Funeral Service in Archdale and other times at 2416 Wildwood Rd. Trinity.

ASHEBORO - Dolen L. "Tom" Hill, 95, died Sept. 4, 2008.

Funeral wil be held Monday at 11 a.m. at West Bend United Methodist Church. Visitation will be held Sunday from 3 to 5 p.m. at Ridge Funeral Home.

Ginny (Jenny) Sherrod

HIGH POINT - Clara Virginia Sherrod of High Point died Friday, September 05, 2008 at Maryfield where she had been a resident for many years. Ginny was born on November 27, 1946 to Virginia Rogers Sherrod and David Stanton Sherrod.

Ginny defied the odds and doctor's predictions by living to be 62. Her father died in 1947 and when her mother died in 1980, Ginny's Aunt Clara Sherrod Millis Parham (Tootsie) became her guardian and remained so for 27 years. For the last 16 years, Ginny's home was at Maryfield where she found security and contentment. Her favorite pastime was watching NASCAR racing and other sporting events on television and she loved to converse on those subjects. She looked forward to weekly shopping excursions and making carefully chosen purchases. Ginny's sweet nature, pure spirit and innocent sense of humor will always be remembered by those who knew her. Ginny's family is grateful to the staff at Maryfield who have so lovingly cared for Ginny all of these years and especially during her recent decline in health. Special thanks go to the nursing staff in Hayworth House, Taylor Village and to Sarah Shelton, Elizabeth Gloster, Janet Golden and Meg Hemauer, all of whom had long standing friendships with Ginny. The family also wishes to express appreciation to Hospice of the Piedmont for caring for Ginny during her final days.

Ginny is survived by her cousins David and Janet Millis of High Point, Hank and Callie Millis of Macon, Georgia, Sherry Millis of Graham, NC and Liz and Jerry King of Parkton, NC.

A service of remembrance will be held in the Chapel at Pennybyrn at Maryfield at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, September 8, 2008 conducted by Pastor Sue Gamelin. Ethel Overcash

SOPHIA - Mrs. Ethel Beatrice Tysinger Overcash, 85, of Sophia passed away September 4, 2008 at Westchester Manor in High Point. Mrs. Overcash was born April 27, 1923 in Davidson County to Roby and Rosa Yates Tysinger.

Mrs. Overcash was retired from Alma Desk Company in High Point. She was a member of Sophia Baptist Church and the Young at Heart Sunday School Class. Mrs. Overcash had been active in the Randolph County Senior Adult Center in Archdale.

On August 29, 1941 Mrs. Overcash was married to Herbert Edward Overcash who preceded her in death on September 15, 2000. She was also preceded in death by a son, Roby Lee Overcash, three brothers, Floyd Tysinger, Alford Tysinger and Raymond Tysinger and a sister, Zelma Hall.

Mrs. Overcash is survived by two sons, Larry Overcash and wife, Donna of Trinity and Michael Overcash and wife, Diann of Thomasville, four grandchildren, Jessica Overcash, Benji Overcash, Christy Overcash and Cindy Neal. Also three great-grandchildren, Catie, Alec and Zachery Neal.

The Funeral will be at 2:00 P.M. Sunday at Sophia Baptist Church by Reverend Bill V. Barnes. The interment will be in Unity United Methodist Church cemetery in Thomasville. A visitation will be from 6:30 until 8:00 P.M. Saturday at Cumby Family Funeral Service in Archdale. At other times the family will be at the residence.

Memorials may be directed to Sophia Baptist Church, P.O. Box 27, Sophia, N.C. 27350.

Joseph Wood

LINCOLNTON - Mr. Joseph Fleming Wood, Jr., age 84, of 3620 Asbury Church Road, Lincolnton died peacefully Friday, September 5, 2008.

His funeral service will be 3:00 pm Sunday, September 7, 2008 at Antioch Baptist Church with Rev. Todd Garren officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday from 1:00 until 2:30 pm at Warlick Funeral Home.

Mr. Wood was born June 30, 1924 in Guilford County to the late Joseph F. and Annie Tinsley Wood. He worked in the tax office in High Point and as a comptroller at Hawley Lumber Company in Stanley, NC, and as a homebuilder. Mr. Wood served as a Sunday school teacher at High Point First Baptist Church for many years and was a long-time member of First Baptist Church, Mt. Holly and a Sunday school teacher there as well. He was promoted to Heaven from Antioch Baptist Church in Lincolnton. He served in the United States Army, 3rd Armor Division during World War II. Mr. Wood was a member of the VFW Posts in Mt. Holly and Denver.

He is survived by his wife, Maude Wood of the home; two daughters, Janie Cole and husband Mike of Raleigh and Elizabeth Weikle and husband Roger of Rock Hill, SC; one sister, Elizabeth Shufelt of High Point; three grandchildren, Anna Cole and Amanda Cole of Raleigh and Claire Weikle of Rock Hill, SC; as well as several nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Antioch Baptist Church, 3387 Highway 150, East, Lincolnton, NC 28092, or to Asbury United Methodist Church, P. O. Box 676, Lincolnton, NC 28093. Warlick Funeral Home is serving the Wood Family.
