William Zack Hogan
William Zack Hogan, age 76, of 860 Troy-Candor Rd., Troy died Sunday, June 12, 2005 at his home.
Mr. Hogan was born June 18, 1928 in Montgomery County, NC, the son of the late Henry and the late Lola (Yarboro) Hogan. He was an active member of Laurel Hill Baptist Church and retired as maintenance supervisor from NC DOT after 32 years of service.
He is survived by his wife Grace Batten Hogan of the home; one daughter, Joyce Hinson of Salisbury and one son, Billy Hogan of Troy; two sisters, Carol Clark of Troy and Doris Richardson of Mt. Gilead; two brothers, Ralph Hogan of Winston Salem and Harold Hogan of Candor; 4 grandchildren, Skip Hinson of Salisbury, Michael Hinson of US Army, Fort Jackson, SC, Lori Beth Hogan of Pigeon Forge, TN and Benny Hogan of Troy.
The family will receive friends Monday, June 13, 2005 from 6:00-8:00 pm at Laurel Hill Baptist Church, 1569 Troy-Candor Rd., Candor; other times at the home. The funeral will be Tuesday, June 14, 2005 at 2:00 pm at Laurel Hill Baptist Church with Rev. Wayne VunCannon officiating. Burial will be in Laurel Hill Baptist Church cemetery.

Viola Mae Brady Miller
Viola Mae Brady Miller, age 93, of Asheboro died Sunday, July 31, 2005 at Mariner Health Care, Asheboro.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, August 3, 2005 at 2:00 PM at Pugh Funeral Home Chapel, 437 Sunset Avenue, Asheboro with Rev. Jim Honeycutt officiating. Burial will follow in Randolph Memorial Park, Asheboro.
Mrs. Miller was a native of Randolph County and was of the Baptist faith. She was retired from Cetwick Hosiery and was preceded in death by her husband, Olin Miller.
She is survived by her daughter, Linda Miller Martin and her husband Hershel of Asheboro, NC; grandson, Jerry Paul Lewis of Asheboro, NC; half sisters, Cary Gray and Lillie Owens both of Asheboro, NC.

Donnie Ray Hurley
Donnie Ray Hurley, age 54, of 740 Flint Hill Rd., Star (Abner Community) died Saturday, October 8, 2005 at his home.
Mr.Hurley was born August 5, 1951 in Montgomery County, the son of Martha Almeda Robbins.
He was retired from Sara Lee and a member of Flint Hill Church of God.
He is survived by daughters: Sharon Denise Hurley and Kimberley Ann Hurley of Abner, NC; son: Rocky Jason Hurley of Abner, NC; brother: James Frank Hurley of Abner, NC; Six grandchildren.

Lois Hazel Poindexter Henson
Lois Hazel Poindexter Henson, age 70, of 1820 Levance St., Asheboro died Saturday, October 8, 2005 at Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital, Greensboro.
Mrs. Henson was born November 4, 1934 in Surry County, NC, the daughter of J. E. and Sarah Belle (Powell) Poindexter.
She was formerly employed with Burlington Industries and retired from Galey and Lord.
She is survived by her husband: William Henson of the home; Daughter: Sue Henson Henley of Archdale, NC; Son: Michael Henson of Asheboro, NC; Three Grandchildren; Brother: Emery Bonson Poindexter of Asheboro, NC.

James F. “Jimmy” McDaniel
James F. “Jimmy” McDaniel, age 59, of 1919 W. Hickory Place, Holden Beach, formerly of 2022 Old Liberty Rd., Randleman, died Monday, October 10, 2005 at Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital, Greensboro.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, October 13, 2005 at 2:00 PM at the Pugh Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Randy Kelley and Rev. John Sides officiating. Burial will follow in Randolph Memorial Park, Asheboro.
Mr. McDaniel was a native of Moore County, NC and was employed as a driver with UPS for 21 years. He was a Mason, was a member of Hanks Lodge #128 Masonic Order, and was preceded in death by his father, Willie McDaniel.
He is survived by his wife, Charlene Williams McDaniel; daughter, Jeri McDaniel Arrington and her husband Charles of Randleman, NC; daughter, Jodi McDaniel Hildreth and her husband Chad of Sophia, NC; son, James F. Ila Mae Bunting Hamilton
Ila Mae Bunting Hamilton, age 88, formerly of 509 North Church St., Asheboro died Tuesday, October 11, 2005 at Clapp’s Convalescent Nursing Home, Asheboro.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, October 14, 2005 at 11:00 AM at Fayetteville Street Baptist Church, 901 North Fayetteville Street, Asheboro with Rev. Adrian Pugh and Rev. Joseph Hamilton officiating. Burial will follow in Oaklawn cemetery, Asheboro.
Mrs. Hamilton was a native of Randolph County and retired from General Electric. She was a charter member of Ward Street Baptist Church which later became Fayetteville Street Baptist Church, was a Sunday School teacher and worked in various areas of the church. She was a member of the Adult Bible Sunday School Class. Ila was preceded in death by her husband, John Earl Hamilton, her son, David Earl Hamilton, her daughter, Norma Hamilton Lewallen, and her parents, Henry and Ora Bunting.
She is survived by five sons, Stephen Hamilton of Kernersville, NC; Jerry Hamilton of McLeansville, NC, Rev. Joseph Hamilton of Martinsville, VA, Harrell Hamilton of Asheboro, NC, Darrell Hamilton of Asheboro, NC; one daughter, Martha Poitevent of East Palatka, FL; 12 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren; and one brother, Raeford Bunting of Seagrove, NC.

James F. Koontz
James F. Koontz, age 74, of 450 Mountain Top Drive, Asheboro died Tuesday, October 11, 2005 at Clapp’s Convalescent Nursing Home, Asheboro.
Mr. Koontz was a native of Davidson County, a graduate of High Point College where he majored in accounting and an Army veteran of the Korean Conflict.. He was retired from Hospital Services, Inc. in Columbus, SC and was a member of St. John´s Lutheran Church.
A Memorial Service will be held Thursday, October 13, 2005 at 1:00 PM at St. John's Lutheran Church, 505 S. Park St., Asheboro with Rev. Ralph Kraft officiating.
He is survived by his wife, Norma M. Mrs. Woodie was a native of Randolph County and formerly worked for Blue Bell Manufacturing of Asheboro.

Ethel Craven Cox, age 94, of 500 Mountain Top Dr., Asheboro died Monday, October 17, 2005 at Clapps Convalescent Nursing Home, Asheboro.
Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, October 19, 2005 at 2:00 PM at Franklinville United Methodist Church, 227 W. Main St., Franklinville with Rev. Robert E. Dowling officiating. Burial will follow in Gray's Chapel United Methodist Church cemetery.
Mrs. Cox was a native of Cedar Falls, was retired from Randolph Hospital, and was a member of Franklinville United Methodist Church. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, was a past Worthy Matron of the Virgin Chapter of Franklinville, and was a past Worthy Matron of the Weatherly Chapter Number 271 of Ramseur.
She is survived by her daughter, Rebecca Craven of Franklinville, NC; stepson, Thomas C. Cox of Sophia, NC; step daughter, Jewell Dorsett of Thomasville, NC; grandchildren, Phil Craven of Greeneville, TN, Lisa Craven Kass of Kinston, NC, Maria Craven of Holden Beach, NC, Randy Julian of Farmer, NC; daughter-in-law, Rebecca Presnell Craven of Holden Beach, NC; 6 great grandchildren; 2 step grandchildren; 4 step great grandchildren.

Memorial service will be 2:00 PM Friday, October 14, 2005 at Dogwood Acres Presbyterian Church, Asheboro with Rev. Joseph T. Brown officiating.
Mrs. Ward was a native of Sodus, NY. She retired from Sprint and was a member of Dogwood Acres Presbyterian Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Z. Ward.

Steve Landon Chappell, age 69, of 945 South Church St., Apt. 210, Asheboro, formerly of Randleman, died Monday, October 10, 2005 at Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital, Greensboro. He was born March 16, 1936, the son of Alvin and Margaret McCollum Chappell.
Graveside service will be 11:00 AM Thursday, October 13, 2005 at Randolph Memorial Park, Asheboro with Rev. Rex Pollard officiating.
Mr. Chappell was a native of Montgomery County and was retired from Laughlin Hosiery Mill. He was a member of Friendship Baptist Church and was preceded in death by wife, Edith Chappell.
Survivors include: son, Randy Chappell of Myrtle Beach, SC; daughter, Kathy Chappell Bassett of Randleman, NC; 5 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; and two brothers: Larry Russell of Mt. Gilead, NC, and J. W. Gale of Candor, NC.
