DAVIS
Mrs. Alice Woosley Davis, 84, died Monday, Nov. 6, 2000, at Colonial Care Rest Home where she had been a resident for the past 12 years. She was born March 26, 1916, in Forsyth County to Charles Franklin and Mary Sink Woosley. She was a member of Bethany Baptist Church in Rougemont, N.C. She was preceded in death by her husband, Oscar Davis. Mrs. Davis is survived by a special niece, Carolyn S. Shore, and a nephew, Dorsey D. Stimson; two great-nieces, Beverly Shore and Buffy S. Disher; and a great-nephew, Darren Stimson. A graveside service will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Pine Grove United Methodist Church cemetery by the Rev. Stewart Roten. The family will receive friends after the graveside service and at other times at the home of niece Carolyn S. Shore. Memorials may be made to the charity of the donor's choice in memory of Alice W. Davis, or to the Pine Grove UMC cemetery Fund, 1130 Jonestown Road, Winston-Salem, N.C. 27103. The family wishes to extend a special "Thank You" to the staff of Colonial Care for the loving care given to Alice Davis. We will always remember your kindness to her.

GORSUCH
SAN DIEGO -- Barbara Boles Gorsuch, 65, of San Diego died Oct. 15, 2000. She was born in Stokes County, N.C. Mrs. Gorsuch was retired after working as a registered nurse. Survivors include her husband, William F. Gorsuch; sons, Stephan Kent Gorsuch of Las Vegas and William Phillip Gorsuch and Mathew Stuart Gorsuch of San Diego; stepdaughter, Phyllis Marie Clark of Calais, Maine; stepsons, William Scott Gorsuch of Escondido and David Lee Gorsuch of Brewer, Maine and seven grandchildren. Services will be private. Donations: Kaiser Hospice. Arrangements: Caring Cremation Services.

EINSTEIN
BERMUDA RUN -- Fred M. Einstein of 3322 Bermuda Village, Bermuda Run, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 7, 2000, in the Hospice Home in Winston-Salem after 82 wonderful years. He was born in Radford, Va., on April 19, 1918, to Fred and Bessie Lyle Einstein. The best day of his life was July 28, 1938, when he married Edna Earle (Nearle) Clinard, who preceded him in death in December 1994. Greg, his first grandchild, nicknamed him "Mo," which became Fred's name among his family and friends. Fred served 20 years, four active and 16 reserve, in the U.S. Army, retiring as a major in 1963. He worked at Salem Steel Company for 40 years, retiring from his sales manager's position in 1982. He was a founding member of the Pinebrook Country Club. He also belonged to the Junior Chamber of Commerce and the Lion s Club. After moving to Shallotte in 1985, Mo and Nearle were active in the Calvary Baptist Church, transferring their membership from the First Baptist Church in Winston-Salem. Mo made the best of a difficult situation during the past year, always appreciative of friends and family. He is now reunited with Nearle in heaven, which is a comfort to his family. Surviving are two sons, Freddy and Jimmy Einstein, of Winston-Salem and Bermuda Run, respectively; a daughter, Peggy Einstein Yountz of Cornelius ; a sister, Aurelia Einstein Norwood of Lynchburg, Va.; six grandchildren; four great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. The funeral will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 9, 2000, at Voglers Reynolda Road Chapel. The family will receive friends and family from 7 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 8, 2000, at Voglers. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the Juvenile Diabetes. HAMILTON
Mrs. Catherine Phillips Hamilton, 80, formerly of Greensboro, died Saturday, Nov. 4, 2000. Funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 8, 2000, at Christ United Methodist Church. Burial will be at Oaklawn cemetery, Asheboro. Mrs. Hamilton was a member of Christ United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Women and the Association of Minister's Wives, Western N.C. Methodist Conference. She was predeceased by her husband, the Rev. Emsley Paul Hamilton. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Karen Hamilton Bass and Jeffrey Bass of Odessa, Fla.; sons and daughters-in-law, Emsley Paul Hamilton Jr. and Rita Hamilton of Raleigh, Franklin Garfield Hamilton and Elizabeth Hamilton of Concord; a sister, Elizabeth Phillips; a sister-in-law, Oleene Lefler and husband Marvin Lefler, all of Greensboro; a grandson, Emsley Paul Hamilton III and wife Carie Hamilton; and grandson Mark Lee Hamilton, all of Raleigh. HAMPTON
Gilda Gray Hampton,75, died unexpectedly Monday, Nov. 6, 2000, at Forsyth Medical Center. She was born March 5, 1925, in Danville, Va. to Curtis L. and Mable Hayes Gray. Mrs. Hampton was predeceased by her husband, Clyde M. Hampton in 1997. She is survived by a daughter, Susan Hampton Grose and husband, Odell of Yadkinville; two sons, Stephen G. Hampton and wife, Kim of Statesville and Mike Hampton and wife, Sylvia of Clemmons; five grandchildren and a sister, Helen Peterson of Clemmons. Mrs. Hampton was retired from WFU Medical School and more recently with Neurosurgeons De La Torre, Pikula and Brown. A graveside service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Westlawn Gardens of Memory by the Rev. Norwood Green. The family will receive friends after the service at Mrs. Hampton's home. Arrangements by Vogler & Sons Clemmons Chapel.

HAUSER
Mrs. Evelyn Logan Hauser, 87, of Winston-Salem, died Tuesday, Nov. 7, 2000, at Salemtowne Retirement Community. She was born Sept. 9, 1913, in Forsyth County to Augustus Green and Ida Murphy Logan. Mrs. Hauser was a very active member of First United Methodist Church in High Point as long as her health permitted. She and her husband, Dallas Hampton Hauser who preceded her in death, were part owners and operators of Hauser and Marley Feed and Seed. She was a member of Oakview Garden Club in High Point and High Point Hospital Guild. Surviving are two daughters, Patricia Tyree and husband Gene of Fayetteville and Cecelia Shaver and husband Glenn of Clemmons; four grandchildren, Lynn Tyree, Dallas Tyree and wife Jamie, Ashley McCormick and husband Joe and Suzanne Shaver; a great-grandson, Nicholas; and a sister, Mary Tatum of Winston-Salem. A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Forsyth Memorial Park, with the Rev. Mark Curtis officiating. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel. Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church, 512 Main St., High Point, NC 27260.

JARRETT
Mrs. Judy Louise Brooks Jarrett, 94, formerly of 1425 E. 25th St . and the Winston-Salem Rehab. Center, departed this life on Nov. 4, 2000, at Wake Forest Baptist University Medical Center. She was a native of Stokes County, born on Oct. 13, 1906, and lived in Winston-Salem all her life. Mrs. Jarrett was a member of Goler Memorial AME Zion Church where she served on the gospel choir and the Parent Body Missionary #1. She was a member of the Roxie Baxter Sunday School class. She is preceded in death by her husband, Mr. Bynum Jarrett and two sons, Mr. Charles (Red) Jarrett and Mr. John (J.T.) Jarrett. She is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Ann Weaver, Mrs. Mary Henderson and Mrs. Ruby (Nathaniel) Hines all of Winston-Salem; two sons, Mr. Author H. (Angela) Jarrett of Chesapeake, Va. and Mr. Robert Gray (Claudette) Jarrett of Lexington, N.C.; 20 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; a great great-grandchild; a sister, Mrs. Mattie Brooks Wheeler of Winston-Salem; two sisters-in-law, Mrs. Callie Brooks and Mrs. Elizabeth (Dadie) Jarrett of Winston-Salem. Also several other relatives and friends. Family visitation will be from 2:30 to 3 p.m. (30 minutes prior to services). Service will be at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 8, 2000, in Goler Memorial AME Zion Church. The Rev . Seth O. Lartey will officiate. Clark S. Brown & Sons Funeral Home are in charge of arrangements.

KYSLINGER
Mr. Roland E. "Ron" Kyslinger, 54, died at his home in Winston-Salem Sunday afternoon following several months of illness. He was born in McKeesport, Pa. on April 15, 1946, to Stanley and Mary Danko Kyslinger. Mr. Kyslinger was a mechanical engineer and came to this area as a project manager on the RJR Tobaccoville Plant. He worked with U.S. Engineering for 10 years. He was very active with the North West Forsyth American League Little League and coached several different age-level teams. He was a member of Pilot Mountain Golf Club. Surviving are his wife, Jo Ann Kogel Kyslinger of the home; four sons, Daniel Kyslinger of Hartwell, Ga., Robert Kyslinger of Gaffney, S.C., William Kyslinger and wife Melissa of Charlotte, and Michael Kyslinger of the home. A memorial service will be held in the Mausoleum Chapel at Forsyth Memorial Park at 10 a.m. on Saturday with Father Herbert Burke as officiant. Visitation will be at 7 to 9 p.m. on Friday at Vogler Reynolda Road Chapel with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. Memorials may be made to either Hospice, 1100-C, S. Stratford Road, Winston-Salem, N.C. 27103 or to the National Kidney Foundation of N.C., 5950 Fairview Road St. 550, Charlotte, N.C. 28210.

LANDINGHAM
Mr. Roy Preston Landingham, 78, formerly of 1218 E. 15th St., departed this life Nov. 4, 2000, at the home of his daughter. He was born March 7, 1922, in Martinsville, Va., to the late Fannie Preston and Leroy Landingham. He moved to Winston-Salem at an early age. He was a member of the Masonic Temple, Order Sethos 170. He retired from R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co. after 26 years of service. He is survived by two sons, Mr. Mileard (Robin) Landingham of Charlotte and Mr. Jay L. Campbell of Greensboro and a daughter, Mrs. Jerri (Rodney) Evans of Winston-Salem. He leaves to rejoice life 11 grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends. He will be truly missed. Funeral services will be held in the chapel of Clark S. Brown and Sons Funeral Home at 2 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 9, 2000. Family visitation will be held an hour before services from 1 to 2 p.m. The Rev. Austin of Greater Christian Fellowship Church in Greensboro will officiate. Burial will be in Evergreen cemetery. Clark S. Brown & Sons Funeral Home are in charge of arrangements.

LONG
KING -- Martha Frances Allen Long, 58, of Denny Park Circle, died Monday, Nov. 6, 2000, after a lengthy illness. She was born Aug . 19, 1942, in Forsyth County to Jacob Franklin and Alma Mae Jordan Allen. Surviving are her husband, Kenneth Wayne Long Sr. of the home; three daughters, Robin (Sammy) Hoffman of Lexington, Kay (Thomas) Keller of Pfafftown and April (Ray) Keller of King; a son, Kenneth Wayne (Susan) Long Jr. of Pfafftown; a sister, Kathryn Allen of Kernersville; two brothers, Donald F. (Jane) Allen of Moyock and James R. (Kathy) Allen of Winston-Salem; nine grandchildren; special friends, Faye Crouch and Mae Lester of King. The family will receive friends today from 1 to 3 p.m. at Slate Funeral Home in King with funeral services immediately following in the chapel with Pastor Dwayne Johnson officiating. Burial will be in the Gospel Mission Baptist Church cemetery in Tobaccoville. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Forsyth County, 1100-C S. Stratford Road, Suite 201, Winston-Salem, N.C. 27103.

MITCHELL
Mr. Arvin Carston Mitchell, 58, of 6606 Spanish Oak Drive, Rural Hall, known to family and friends as "A.C.," passed away Saturday, Nov. 5, 2000, at Forsyth Medical Center. He was born July 23, 1942, in Rural Hall to Mrs. Marie Ervin Mitchell and the late Mr. Herbert Otto Mitchell. He was a graduate of Carver High School, Class of 1960. He was a member of the St. James United Methodist Church, where he was the church secretary, trustee, church treasurer, lay speaker, custodian and a dedicated Sunday-school student. He was a retired employee of Forsyth County. He was preceded in death by a brother and sister, Herbert Mitchell and Rebecca Hampton. He is survived by his wife, Deloise Withers Mitchell of the home; his mother, Mrs. Marie Mitchell of Rural Hall; two brothers, Daniel Mitchell and Robert (Margaret) Mitchell; a devoted niece, Sharon Myers, and other nieces, Princella Quiston and Shannon Mitchell, both of Winston-Salem; an aunt, Evangelist Mary Abbott; three uncles, J.W. (Minnie) Ervin, Joseph (Anna) Ervin, both of Winston-Salem, and the Rev. Wilson Ervin of Cambridge, Md.; and a host of cousins, other relatives and friends. Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 9, 2000, from the Crestview Memorial Park, Rural Hall, with Joseph Mitchell presiding. NICHOLS
MOUNT AIRY -- Mr. James William Lafayette Nichols, 77, of 153 Combs Street, Mount Airy (Toast community) widower of Rachel Pauline Gruble Nichols, passed away Monday, Nov. 6, 2000, at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem. Mr. Nichols was born in Surry County on May 10, 1923, son of the late James Arthur and Nancy Catherine Johnson Nichols. Mr. Nichols was a veteran of the United States Marines having served during World War II, and was a self-employed building contractor. He also attended Midway Baptist Church and White Plains Baptist Church. Survivors include three daughters and two sons-in-law, Deborah Ann and Dean Watson of Mount Airy, N.C., Terr Lynn Nichols of the home and Alicia Jane and Larry Wayne Easter of Lowgap, N.C.; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Mark William and Norma Nichols of Elkin, N.C. and Gregory John Nichols of Winston-Salem, N.C.; 12 grandchildren; two step grandchildren; two step great grandchildren; five sisters and three brothers-in-law, Louise Jones of Toast, N.C., Pauline Combs of Winston-Salem, N.C. Josephine and George "Bud" Snyder of Mount Airy, N.C., Berdine and Jack Johnson of Atlantic, N.C. and Nancy and Roy Cockerham of Morehead City, N.C. and a sister-in-law, Kaye S. Nichols of Mount Airy, N.C. In addition to his wife and parents, Mr. Nichols was preceded in death by a sister, Maude Tickle and a brother, Donald Lee Nichols. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 9, 2000, at Moody Funeral Home Chapel of Mount Airy conducted by the Rev. Larry Phillips and Mr. Harold Stone with burial to follow in Skyline Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday night at Moody Funeral Home of Mount Airy where his body will remain until the hour of the service. POINDEXTER
KING -- Mrs. Erma Melissa Scott Poindexter, 88, widow of Mr. Ralph Ray Poindexter of Route 2, Box 139, Pinnacle, N.C. passed away Monday, Nov. 6, 2000, at Village Care of King. Mrs. Poindexter was born in Surry County, Feb. 25, 1912, to Perry Gray and Delia Hobson Scott. Mrs. Poindexter was a retired farmer and a lifelong member of Shoals Baptist Church. She is survived by a son, Jesse Ray Poindexter of Pinnacle, N.C.; two grandsons, Jesse (June Bug) Poindexter of Germanton, N.C. and Charles (C.R.) Poindexter of Pinnacle, N.C.; four great-grandchildren, Devin, R.J., Chris, and Stephanie Poindexter; a special niece, Nelda S. Brown of Pinnacle, N.C.; a sister, Ozell Scott of Pinnacle, N.C.; a brother and sister-in-law, Grover and Lizzie Scott of Siloam, N.C. Mrs. Poindexter was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Ray Poindexter, her parents, and a loving sister, Elsie Scott Spainhower. Funeral services for Mrs. Poindexter will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 9, 2000, at Shoals Baptist Church by the Rev. Bailey Elmore Sr. and the Rev. Van Brindle. Burial will follow at Shoals Baptist Church cemetery. The family will receive friends at Cox-Needham Funeral Home from 7 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 8, 2000. ROSEBORO
Mrs. Velma Yvonne Watts Roseboro of 47 Lacrosse Street, Hampton, Va., passed away Thursday, Nov. 2, 2000, at the Riverside Regional Medical Center unexpectedly. She was born July 20, 1946, to Mrs. Adeline McCullough Watts Hynes and the late John D. Watts Sr. She attended the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County schools. After graduation from Atkins High School, Velma attended N.C. A & T State University in Greensboro where she received a BS degree in business administration. Velma moved to Virginia and attended Golden Gate University of Langley Air Force Base in Hampton, Va., where she received her master's degree in business administration. She was employed as a purchasing agent for the U.S. Navy in Richmond, Va. Velma was active in her community and was a dedicated member of the graduate chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. She leaves to rejoice in her homegoing, two sons, James Randolph Roseboro Jr. and John Randell Roseboro; four granddaughters, Shantia, Bianca, Kayla and Reagan Davis; her mother, Adeline McCullough Watts Hynes; eight sisters, Margaret Ross, Blondelia Beard, Barbara Macon (Boris), Annie R. Smith Jones, Betty Johnson (Willie), Ernestine Shelton (John), Jacqueline Adams (Richard), Cynthia Timmons (David), and a brother, John D. Watts Jr.; two devoted childhood friends, Marjorie "Tootie" Brannon and Florestine Smith; her sons' special friends, Mia Monroe and Terrell Davis; a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, other loving family members, friends and co-workers. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 8, 2000, from the Bethlehem Baptist Church with the Rev. Richard Adams officiating. Interment will be in the Evergreen cemetery. SIZEMORE
Fanny Winona Sizemore, 78, formerly of Pineville, W.Va., died Nov. 5, 2000, at the home of her daughter after a lengthy illness. She is survived by a daughter, Darlena A. Mixon of Winston-Salem. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Pineville, W.Va.

SMITH
Mrs. Ona Estelle Massey Smith, 93, died Nov. 7, 2000, at Forsyth Medical Center. She was born in Barwick, Ga., Nov. 1, 1907, to John Warren Massey and Minnie Adelia Culbreth Massey. She was married to Edward LeVert Smith from 1944 until his death in 1957. Mrs. Smith graduated from Barwick High School in Barwick, Ga. She received her associate's degree from Mitchell Junior College in Statesville; her bachelor's degree from Catawba College in Salisbury and her master's degree in education from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. She taught elementary school in Broxton, Ga., Nashville, Ga., Mooresville and Winston-Salem. In Winston-Salem she taught at Wiley and Ardmore Schools when they were elementary schools. She retired from teaching in 1973. She was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church in Winston-Salem. Surviving are a daughter, Lilona Massey Smith Schiro; a granddaughter, Loryn Delaine Schiro; a son-in-law, Gregory W. Schiro; and a brother, Jack U. Massey. Funeral services will be held at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel at 11 a.m Thursday. A graveside service will follow at New Perth Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church cemetery in Troutman. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 8, 2000, at the funeral home.

ANGEL
GREENSBORO -- Mrs. Evelyn Moran Angel, 89, of 2206 Pisgah Church Rd., died Saturday, November 6, 1999 at Wesley-Long Hospital. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, November 9, 1999 at 2:00 p.m. at Mount Pisgah United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Mrs. Angel had been a member of Mount Pisgah United Methodist Church since 1943, she was also a member of the Missionary Society, the Loyal Workers Sunday School Class, and the Eastern Star Chapter 14. She was retired from Belk Department Store after 30 years of service in the alterations department. Mrs. Angel was predeceased by her husband, Roy Angel; and brother, J.H. Morgan. Surviving are her daughters and sons-in-law, Ernestine and Charles Beal of Greensboro, Maxine and Tommy Cole of High Point, Melvine and Snow Adams of Asheville, and Rebecca and Chuck Ernest of Greensboro; brothers, Lonnie Morgan of Winston-Salem and Eugene Morgan of Walnut Cove; eight grandchildren; and 9 great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Monday evening at Hanes-Linebery Funeral Home, N. Elm Chapel. BLEDSOE
STOKESDALE -- Mrs. Ava H. Bledsoe, 78, of 237 Middleton Road, died Friday afternoon, November 5, 1999 at her residence. A graveside service will be held Monday, November 8, 1999 at 11:00 a.m. at Schodfield cemetery in Danville, Va. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jessie M. Bledsoe. Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Rev. Dr. Jessie W. and Brenda Bledsoe of First Presbyterian Church in Pilot Mountain; one daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Richard Mitchell of Stokesdale; two sisters, Nannie Perkins of Greensboro and Juanita Combs of Lancaster, S.C.; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren, Christopher and Brianna Mitchell. The family will receive friends Sunday evening from 7-9 p.m. at Brooke Funeral Home in Stokesdale. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Hospice of Rockingham County.

BREEZE
KING -- Karen Breeze, 60, of King, died Friday, November 5, 1999 at Forsyth Medical Center after a long illness. She is survived by her granddaughter, Katie Hill of the home; one son, Michael Breeze and wife, Peggy of Texas; and two daughters, Rebecca Webb and husband, Mike of King and Cindy Hill of Tenn. A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, November 7, 1999 at Crestview Memorial Park, Rural Hall. The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Saturday, November 6, 1999 at 1529 Chestnut Grove Rd. in King. Arrangements by Memorial Funeral Chapel.

BYRD
KING -- William Emmett (Bill) Byrd, 87, of YMCA Camp Road, died unexpectedly at his home Friday, November 5, 1999. He was born March 5, 1912 in Surry County to Walter Emmett and Celia Bartley Byrd. Bill was a retired Maintenance Director for YMCA Camp Hanes. He was preceded in death by his wife, Nellie Stanley Byrd in 1991. Surviving are one daughter, Carol Sams of King; two grandsons, David Sams and wife, Shelley of King and Mark Sams of Winston-Salem; one granddaughter, Catherine Quigley of Raleigh; and one great-grandson, Grant Wayne Sams. He was a member of Capella Church of Christ, where funeral services will be held Monday, November 8, 1999 at 11 a.m. Lamar Tillman, Minister, will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m Sunday at Capella Church of Christ and at other times at his home. (Slate Funeral Home)
