BOWERS
YADKINVILLE -- Mrs. Alma Clodfelter Shoaf Bowers, 77, died Thursday, October 21, 1999 at Hoots Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Bowers was a native of Forsyth County, born June 20, 1922 to the late R. Bernie and Mary Della York Clodfelter. She was a member of Christ Lutheran Church in Jonesville. Mrs. Bowers was twice married, first to Henry Lee Shoaf, who died in 1968, and later, to William Henry Bowers, who died in 1980. She was also preceded in death by a son, William Starling Shoaf. Surviving are two sons, R.A. Shoaf, of Gainesville, Fla. and David W. Shoaf, of Yadkinville; five grandchildren; and one brother, Vance York Clodfelter, of Clemmons. Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 p.m., Sunday, October 24 at Vogler & Sons Main Street Chapel by Rev. Don Herb. Interment will follow in Waughtown cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday from 7:00-9:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

BROWN
Mrs. Ada Margaret Settle Brown, of 4101 Carver School Road, was born in Winston-Salem to the late James and Willeane Grier Settle. She was a lifelong resident of Winston-Salem and a graduate of Winston-Salem Teachers College (now Winston-Salem State University), receiving a Master's degree from North Carolina A&T State University. She retired from the Winston-Salem Forsyth County Public Schools after 34 years of service. Mrs. Brown was a member of Lloyd Presbyterian Church, where she served as an elder. In the community, she was active in the Columbia Heights Chapter of the Winston-Salem State University Alumni Association, and the Atkins High Reunion. She was also a member of the University Women. She departed this life Tuesday, October 19, 1999 at Forsyth Medical Center following a period of illness. Funeral services will be held Sunday, October 24 at 3:00 p.m. at Lloyd Presbyterian Church, with Rev. Laura Spangler officiating. Interment will follow in Piedmont Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends thirty minutes prior to the service at the church. She leaves to cherish her memory, her husband, of the home, Robert Brown; one son, Norman Brown, of Winston-Salem; two sisters, Roxie Settle, of Winston-Salem and Gladys Bailey, of Baltimore, Md.; one brother, Vincent Settle, of Winston-Salem; one sister-in-law, Fannie Gerald, of Winston-Salem; one brother-in-law, Albert (Jimmie) Brown, of Columbia, Md.; and several nieces; nephews; other relatives; and friends. The cortege will assemble and leave from the residence at 1:45 p.m. Sunday. (HOOPER)

CAUDILL
GLADE VALLEY -- Mrs. Alma Blevins Caudill, 86, of 20 Caudill Road, Glade Valley, N.C., died Friday, October 22, 1999 at her residence. Born October 13, 1913 to Quincy and Emma Combs Caudill, she was a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her husband, Sherman Caudill. Surviving are one son and daughter-in-law, Bob and Avalee Caudill, of Winston-Salem, N.C.; one brother and sister-in-law, Wayne and Reba Blevins, of Glade Valley; two grandchildren and their spouses, Rick and Lynn Caudill, of Mt. Airy and Kelly and Dale Higgins, of Rural Hall; four great grandchildren, Lisa and Amber Caudill, of Mt. Airy and Lauren and Lindsey Higgins, of Rural Hall; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m., Monday, October 25 at Grandview Memorial Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Fred E. Jennings and Rev. Everett Shaw. Interment will follow in Whitehead/Joines cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday from 7:00-9:00 p.m. at the funeral home, and other times, at the residence. CRATER
Mrs. Ruth Lashmit Crater, 84, of Winston-Salem, passed away Friday, October 22, 1999. She was born October 3, 1915 in Forsyth County to Lee and Mary Spaugh Lashmit. Mrs. Crater was a member of Hope Moravian Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Mr. Coy S. Crater, in 1983; one sister, Nellie Livengood; and a brother, Edgar Lashmit. Surviving are three daughters, Linda Smith (Dewey), of Winston-Salem, Doris Moore (Everette), of Thomasville, and Annette Wagoner (Billy), of Winston-Salem; two sons, Richard Crater (Brenda), of Mocksville and Terry Crater (Brenda), of Winston-Salem; 15 grandchildren; and 12 great grandchildren. A funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m., Sunday, October 24 at Hope Moravian Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday from 7:00-9:00 p.m. at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel.

DAVIS
WILKESBORO -- Ruby M. Davis, 61, of Overlook Drive, Wilkesboro, died Friday, October 22, 1999 at her residence. She was born September 8, 1938 to Monroe and Lillie Taylor Mathis. She was a case worker for the Wilkes County Department of Social Services and a member of the Lutheran Church of the Atonement. She is survived by one daughter, Quinn Bowman, of Dobson; two sons, Michael B. Davis and his wife, Corene, of East Bend and Randy Davis, of Sparta; one brother, Buford Thomas Mathis, of Wilkesboro; and three grandchildren, Sarah Brianne Davis, Megan Bowman, and Ashley Bowman. The funeral service will be conducted 4:00 p.m., Sunday, October 24 at Lutheran Church of the Atonement in Wilkesboro, with Pastor Matthew Miller officiating. Burial will be in Mountlawn Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, P.O. Box 2361, North Wilkesboro, N.C. 28659.

DILLON
WALKERTOWN -- Mr. Eugene Edward Dillon, 65, of Walkertown, N.C., died Friday, October 22, 1999 at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center. Born June 27, 1934 to Jesse Woodson and Hattie Woods Dillon, he was a retired salesman and of the Primitive Baptist faith. He is survived by his wife, Jackie Dillon, of the home; two sons, Johnnie Dillon and wife, Jill, of Pfafftown and Ken Dillon and wife, Stacy, of Kernersville; four sisters, Clarice Fulk, of Walkertown, Emma Delapp, of Walnut Cove, Adis Ogburn, of King, and Anise Mabe, of Walkertown; two brothers, John Dillon and wife, Joan, and Jack Dillon and wife, Marie, all of Walkertown; and three grandchildren, Zachary Dillon, Sarah Dillon, and Amy Dillon. Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m., Sunday, October 24 at Burroughs Funeral Home, conducted by Elder William Dodson and Elder Millard Shelton. Burial will follow in Gardens of Memory in Walkertown. The family will receive friends Saturday from 7:00-9:00 p.m. at Burroughs Funeral Home.

HOLLAND
NORTH WILKESBORO -- Mr. Joe Ralph Holland, 83, of Hunter Road, died Thursday, October 21, 1999 in Siler City. Born on March 6, 1916 to George and Dora Henderson Holland, he was the owner of Holland Lumber Company and a member of Fishing Creek Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Fern Thompson Holland. Mr. Holland is survived by two daughters, Janet Hartley, of Wilkesboro and Marcia Holland, of the home; three sons, Brent Holland, of Mooresville, Jeff Holland, of Hickory, and Marc Holland, of the home; one brother, Archie Holland, of North Wilkesboro; five grandchildren, Stephen Hartley, Laura Hartley, Scott Holland, Eric Holland, and Christopher Holland; and one great grandchild, Bradley Shumate. Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m., Sunday, October 24 at Fishing Creek Baptist Church, with Rev. Charles Edwards and Rev. Paul Laws officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home in North Wilkesboro. Memorials may be made to Ebenezer Gardens Christian Children's Home, P.O. JESSUP
MT. VERNON, N.Y. -- Mabel Sullivan Jessup died Thursday, October 21, 1999 at Sound Shore Medical Center after a long illness. She was 82 years old. Born June 10, 1917 to Calvin Sullivan and Frannie McCall in Darlington, S.C., Mrs. Jessup was the beloved mother of two daughters, Carole J. Morris, Founder, C.E.O. of the Mt. Vernon Neighborhood Health Center and Janice Christian, a retired attorney and judge, of Atlanta, Ga.; and two sons, Michael Jessup, a retired attorney and professor of Raleigh, N.C. and Sherman Jessup, Jr., an artist from Central Islip, Long Island. Mrs. Jessup, an ordained metaphysical minister, graduated from Winston Salem Teachers College and was a Doctor of Metaphysics; Doctor of Psychology in Metaphysics, and a Doctor of Divinity. Mrs. Jessup is predeceased by her husband, Samuel Jessup, who passed away in 1989. She spent her life help ing others. A retired school teacher in Winston-Salem, she was an ordained minister and founder of the Anagosian Church in Winston-Salem. She also founded the Anagosian Metaphysical College, where she inspired many through her metaphysical teachings. After 40 years of service in the Winston-Salem community, Mrs. Jessup returned to Mt. Vernon in 1997 to spend her final years in the care of her daughter, Carole Morris. Mrs. Jessup was an inspira tion to her loving family and the many people whose lives she touched. She lived to see and share the lives of 12 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at Camelot Funeral Home, Mt. Vernon, N.Y. on Saturday, October 23, at 4:00 p.m.

McCLAIN
GREENSBORO -- Ruth Huff Styers McClain, age 79, passed away Friday, October 22, 1999. She was a resident of Greensboro, N.C. most of her life, but was born and spent much of her youth in East Bend, N.C. She is survived by her husband, Raymond; daughters, Jackie Lockerman and Barbara Emery; and son, Dallas McClain, all of Greensboro. She is also survived by her sister, Mattie Sue Holder, of Sterling, Va.; six grandchildren; and 10 great grandchildren. The family will have visitation at Huff Funeral Home in East Bend on Saturday, October 23 at 7:00 p.m.

WEAVER
LEXINGTON -- Mr. Fred Edward Weaver, 83, of Golden Age, and formerly of Welcome-Arcadia Road, died Thursday, October 21, 1999 at Golden Age, following declining health of eight months. He was born on March 4, 1916 in Davidson County to Rome Lee Weaver and Lettie Elizabeth Leonard Weaver. He retired from Lexington Furniture Industries and was a member of Center United Methodist Church. Mr. Weaver served in the U.S. Army during WWII. Surviving are his wife, Rachel Charles Weaver, of Golden Age; two sons, Gene Edward Weaver and George Reid Weaver, both of Welcome; two daughters, Shirley Ann Weaver, of Welcome and Janice W. Kimel, of Winston-Salem; three grandchildren, Richard Edward Weaver, of Welcome, Michael Kimel of Arcadia, and Staci Kimel, of Greenville, N.C.; three brothers, Ray Von Weaver, Grover Weaver, and John Henry Weaver, all of Welcome; one sister, Alma Elaine Linville, of Welcome. Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 p.m., Sunday, October 24 at Davidson Funeral Home Hickory Tree Chapel by Rev. Larry Jent. Burial will follow in Center United Methodist Church cemetery. Memorials may be directed to Center United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 179, Welcome, N.C. 27374.

ANDREWS
CLEMMONS -- Mr. Everette Wayne Andrews, 68, formerly of the Arcadia community, passed away Oct. 20, 2000, at the VA Hospital in Salisbury, where he had resided for the past eight years. Mr. Everette was preceded in death by his wife, Hazel S. Andrews; his mother and father, Mr. Dewey M. Andrews and Mrs. Marie S. Andrews of Ennice, N.C.; and a step-grandchild, Kenny Potts. Surviving are one daughter, Ellen Andrews of Yadkinville; one stepdaughter, Gail Potts of High Point; one stepson, Gary Strader of High Point; one grandson, Justin Harrison; two step grandchildren; two brothers, Dennis M. Andrews of Statesville and Bain R. Andrews of Millers Creek, N.C.; two sisters, Wilma A. Tedder of Sparta, N.C., and Thelma A. Bauguess of Lexington; two nephews, Bobby Tedder and Ryan Andrews; four nieces, Lori Walton, Debbie Bare, Rebecca Vires and Sharon Sluder. Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 22, 2000, at Parklawn Memorial Gardens Mausoleum Chapel. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the mausoleum chapel. BRACKEN
Mr. Roy Bracken, Sr., 89, of 1356 McPhail Road, Salemburg died Friday at his home. The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Liberty Baptist Church in Harmony, N.C., with the Rev. Marvin Blackburn officiating. Burial will follow in the Liberty Baptist Church cemetery. He was a native of Davie County, the son of the late Johnny G. and Annie Eliza O'Neal Bracken. He was a carpenter. He is survived by one son, Jesse William Bracken of Newport News, Va.; two sisters, Mrs. Ada Cleary of Mocksville, N.C., and Mrs. Isabell Tolley of Winston-Salem, N.C.; two brothers, the Rev. Albert Bracken and James Bracken, both of Mocksville, N.C.; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends at Reavis Funeral Home in Harmony from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday evening and at the residence of Terry (Tab) Bracken, 227 Claude Ratledge Rd.

BUZZARD
PFAFFTOWN -- Mrs. Carol Marie Herberger Buzzard, 61, of Millwheel Rd, Pfafftown, died Friday, Oct. 20, 2000, at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. She was born Dec. 22, 1938, in Swormville, N.Y., to Edward J. and Marie Popp Herberger. She was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church. Surviving are her husband Donald L. Buzzard of the home. Three daughters, Cheryl A. Bartlett of Winston-Salem, Donita M. Moore and husband Jack of Winston-Salem, Cynthia J. Wooten and husband Randy of King; three sons, Donald . Buzzard and wife Nicole of Vincennes, Ind., Roy E. Buzzard and wife Ilona, of Loudon, Tenn. and Mark F. Buzzard of Pfafftown; 17 grandchildren; a sister, Loraine Galley of New York; seven brothers, Father Edward Herberger of the West Indies, Thomas Herberger of California, Richard Herberger, Donald Herberger, Leonard Herberger, Kenneth Herberger and Gerald Herberger, all of New York. A funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 24, 2000, at Holy Family Catholic Church by Father Frank O'Rourke. Burial will follow in Westlawn Gardens of Memory. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday and Monday at Vogler's Reynolda Road Chapel. Memorials may be made to Kate B. COX
JONESVILLE -- Mr. J. B. Cox, 66, of Jonesville, N.C., went home to be with the Lord, Friday, Oct. 20, 2000, at N.C. Baptist Medical Center. Mr. Cox was born May 16, 1934, in Wilkes County to Walter and Ethel Smoot Cox. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and was a retired truck driver with Pilot Freight and Brendles. Mr. Cox was a member of Marler Road Baptist Church, a member of the Elkin Masonic Ledge No. 454 AF & AM and a member of the Shrine. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and two sisters. Mr. Cox is survived by his wife, Shelby Bryant Cox of the home; two daughters, Dawn Beckerdite of Siloam, N.C., and Michelle Martin of Pfafftown, N.C.; six grandchildren; Celia, Casie, Carley, Kati, Ethan and Hannah; five sisters, Rosa Lee Barker of Benham, N.C., Anna Lee Spivey, Bernice Cox and Mildred Johns, all of Florida, and Kathleen Smith of Elkin, N.C.; four brothers, Ed Cox of Florida, Ira Cox of Traphill, N.C., Sam Cox of Benham and Roger Cox of North Wilkesboro, N.C. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Oct. 23 at Marler Road Baptist Church by the Rev. Randy Johnson. The body will lie in state from 1:30 p.m. to 2 p.m. before the service. DAVIS
EAST BEND -- Mr. John Dee Davis, 68, of 2813 Richmond Hill Church Road died Saturday, Oct. 21, 2000, at his home. He was born in Yadkin County July 17, 1932, to Fred D. and Goldie Mae Hobson Davis. Mr. Davis was a member of Union Grove Baptist Church. He was a retired manufacturer's sales representative. Surviving are a daughter, Jacqueline Mae Davis of Mr. Airy; two sons, Michael Barry (Corene) Davis of East Bend and Randall Dee Davis of Sparta; two sisters, Freddie Wall and Barbara (Denny) Hobson, both of East Bend; three grandchildren, Sarah Brianne Davis, Ashley Elizabeth Bowman and Megan Alexandra Bowman. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, Oct. 24, 2000, at 2 p.m at the Union Grove Baptist Church by the Rev. Kenny Gooden. The body will be placed in the church at 1:30 p.m. to lie in state. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday evening at Huff Funeral Home in East Bend. Memorials may be made to the Union Grove Baptist Church Building Fund, c/o Clay Hobson, 2633 Snider Rd., Yadkinville, N.C. 27055. EARHART
KERNERSVILLE -- Mrs. Nancy (Ann) Earhart, 62, died Oct. 20, 2000, at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home in Winston-Salem. She was born in Scranton, Pa., on April 11, 1938, lived in Miami, Fla., from 1960 to 1983, and then moved to Kernersville with her husband and three sons. She was a member of the Holy Cross Catholic Church and a member of the Columbettes. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Jim, in 1994; her brother, Joe Crasner; and parents, Beatrice and Joseph Crasner. Surviving are three sons and daughters-in-law, Robert and Rosemary of Jamestown, Jimmy and Tracy of Kernersville, Marty and Angie of Charlotte; a sister and her husband, Sharon and Max Sturman of Miami, Fla.; grand-daughters, Bethany, Megan, Kacey and Jessica of N.C.; nephews, Adam, Daniel and Jonathan of Miami, Fla.; an aunt and uncle, Mary Louise and John Haggerty of Scranton, Pa.; and loved cousins and friends. A Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Monday at the Holy Cross Catholic Church by the Rev. Joe Tustin with interment to follow in the Eastlawn Gardens of Memory. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the Hayworth Miller Cain Funeral Home and a Rosary at 8 p.m. Memorials may be directed to the Building Fund c/o Holy Cross Catholic Church 616 S. GATTIS
Mr. Keithly Yates Gattis, 75, of Dogwood Dr., Winston-Salem, N.C., died Friday, Oct. 20, 2000, in Forsyth County. He was born in Lincoln County, Tenn., on March 12, 1925, to the late Clark and Bernice Fincher Gattis. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mrs. Faye Douglas Gattis. He was a retired employee of Western Electric in Winston-Salem, N.C., and a member of the former South Main Church of Christ in Winston-Salem. Surviving are one daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Steve Kimel, of Shoals, N.C.; one son, Doug Gattis, of Rt.1, Elkin, N.C.; and one grandson, Jesse Dalton Kimel, of Shoals, N.C. A graveside service will be held Monday morning Oct. 23, 2000, at 11 a.m. at the Zephyr cemetery. There will be no formal visitation at the funeral home. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to the charity of the donor's choice. Davis & Son Funeral Home in Dobson is serving the Gattis family.

GERATY
BOSTON, Mass. -- Mary Littler Geraty died Sept. 25, 2000. She was 88. Mary was a nurse and mother of two. She was born in Rutland, Vt., and was a nurse at Children's Hospital in Boston, Cornell Hospital in New York City and Baptist Hospital in Winston-Salem, where she lived for 48 years. For the last five years she lived in Boston. She was married to Donald Francis Geraty, who died in 1986. Surviving are her sons, Thomas, his partner, Stuart Walker, and their son, David Walker; and Peter, his wife, Daphne Lowell, and their daughters, Lily and Meara Geraty. There will be a memorial service at 10 a.m. Nov. 4 at Augsburg Lutheran Church in Winston-Salem.
