WESTMORELAND
Mrs. Mary Alice Willard Westmoreland, 97, of 3207 Netherwood Drive, Winter Park, Fla, widow of John William Westmoreland, died on Saturday, Nov . 27, 1999 at the Mariner Health Care Center in Winter Spring, Fla. Mrs. Westmoreland was born in Surry County on July 10, 1902, daughter of the late George Washington Willard and Martha Sechrist Willard. She was a homemaker and member of Epworth United Methodist Church. Surviving are two daughters and sons-in-law, Norma and Don Lampron of Winter Park, Fla. and Edie and Arlyss Jackson of Maitland, Florida; one son, John William Westmoreland, Jr. of Winter Park, Fl a.; nine grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Westmoreland was preceded in death by a daughter and son-in-law, Ruby and Gifford Rigney; a daughter-in-law, Mary Elizabeth (Pete) Westmoreland; grandson, Sam Westmoreland; a great-great-grandson, Dylan Casstevens; three sisters, Rosie Dean, Etta Smith, and Georgia Deatherage; and one brother, Roy D. Willard. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, Dec . 1, 1999 at 2 p.m. at the Epworth United Methodist Church. The services will be conducted by Rev. Jackie Danley and Rev. Warren Hawks, with burial to follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 6 until 9 p.m at the Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy, N.C. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Epworth United Methodist Church Building Fund, Cana, Va. 24317.

ANDERSON
Mr. Edward T. "Nab" Anderson was born in McCormick, S.C., to Annie and Shert Anderson on April 20, 1913. He moved to Winston-Salem at an early age. Mr. Anderson was preceded in death by three brothers, Sherman T. Anderson and Freddie Anderson of Winston-Salem, and Willie Anderson of Detroit; and a sister, Annie Mae Talbert. Mr. Anderson leaves to cherish fond memories two brothers, William T. "Doub" Anderson and David T. Anderson of Winston-Salem; a devoted niece, Kathy Anne Randolph of the home; a great-niece, Ruth O. Jones II of the home; a devoted goddaughter, Juanita (Pinky) Simon of Winston-Salem; a very devoted friend for 45 years, Annie "Louise" Belcher of Winston-Salem; a devoted caretaker, Minnie Wooten of Winston-Salem; and a host of other nieces and nephews in Detroit and Bethesda, Md. Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 30, 2000, at the Frances S. & Jerry C. Gilmore Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Lewis Devlin officiating. Visitation will be from 1:30 to 2 p.m. at the chapel. Burial will be in the Evergreen cemetery. Arrangements entrusted to Gilmore Funeral Home. (GILMORE)

ARMSTRONG
Estelle Easterby Armstrong, formerly of Henderson, died Sunday, Nov. 26, 2000, at the Brookridge Retirement Community in Winston-Salem after an extended illness. She was born July 18, 1923, in Laurens, S.C., to Ernest D. and Estelle Gregory Easterby. She graduated from Converse College. She was a longtime member of First Baptist Church in Henderson, where she served as chairwoman of the memorials committee and the missions committee, and was a member of the finance committee. She was a past president of the Hospital Guild at the Maria Parham Hospital and a member of the ALMA Book Club. She is survived by her husband, Jack W. Armstrong of Winston-Salem; a son and his wife, Bill and Margaret Armstrong of Denver, Colo.; three grandsons, Bill Jr., Brian and Spencer; and a sister, Harriett Easterby Faris of Laurens. A memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 30, 2000, at First Baptist Church, Henderson by Dr. Marion D. Lark. The family will receive friends immediately after the service in the fellowship hall. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Alzheimer's Association, 3420 Shamrock Drive, Charlotte, NC 28215. BOLES
GERMANTON -- Mr. Harold Taft Boles, 63, died Monday, Nov. 27, 2000, at his home. He was born in Stokes County to the late Raymond T. and Myrtle Stewart Boles. He was a member of Peace Baptist Church and was employed by McLean Trucking Co. He was preceded in death by a brother, Carlton L. Stewart. Surviving are his wife of 32 years, Faye Stewart Boles of the home; a daughter, Vicki Gail Brown of Germanton; a son, Ricky L. Boles and wife Vanessa of King; a sister, Lola White and husband Ronald of Pickerington, Ohio; two brothers, Donald G. Boles and wife Margie, and Horace H. Boles and wife Brenda, all of Germanton; four grandchildren, Derrick and Darrell Boles, and Amanda and Joey Williams; and several nieces and nephews. A 7 p.m. funeral service will be held Wednesday, Nov. 29, 2000, at Burroughs Funeral Home Chapel with visitation immediately following the service. An 11 a.m. graveside service will be held Thursday, Nov. 30, 2000, at Friendship Baptist Church cemetery, Germanton. The Rev. Roger Palmer will officiate. CHANDLER
WILMINGTON -- Mrs. Beatrice Morrison Chandler, 81, died Tuesday, Nov. 28, 2000, at New Hanover Regional Medical Center. She was born Aug. 1, 1919, in Marshall County, Ala., to Henry and Ida Brown Morrison. Mrs. Chandler was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by a brother, Tillman Morrison. Surviving are her husband, James H. "Jim" Chandler of Wilmington; a son, Charles Chandler and wife Linda of Gadston, Ala.; a daughter, Judy Jeremias and husband Steve of Wilmington; three grandchildren, Tammy Burkhart, Justin and Jordan Jeremias; a sister, Leona Garmary; three brothers, J.C. Morrison and wife Kathleen, James Henry Morrison and wife Nellie and Billy Morrison and wife Darlene; a sister-in-law, Altus Harper; and a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 30, 2000, at Calvary Baptist Church by Dr. Gary Chapman. Burial will be in Parklawn Memorial Gardens. CRUYWELS
Mrs. Berthe Marechal Cruywels, 98, of Winston-Salem passed away Nov. 27, 2000, at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. She was born in Liege, Belgium, on Oct. 28, 1902, to Jean Baptiste and Maria Paque Marechal. She was educated by the Sisters of the Cross, receiving her teaching degree. She survived two wars in Belgium. In 1950, she came to Winston-Salem to live with her daughter and son-in-law. Madame Berthe taught kindergarten and French at Our Lady of Mercy and later became the librarian, retiring at age 80. She was a member of Our Lady of Mercy Church. Mrs. Cruywels was preceded in death by her husband, Mathieu Cruywels, and her sister, Noemie Marechal. Surviving are a son, Pierre Cruywels and wife Pauline of Belgium; a daughter, Anne-Marie Cruywels Vandiver of Winston-Salem; four grandchildren, Libby O'Neal of Winston-Salem, Michael Vandiver and wife Glenda of Winston-Salem, Anne-Marie Wathelet and husband Frances of Belgium and Sandy Doub and husband Gary of Pfafftown; and four great-grandchildren, Zachary O'Neal of Winston-Salem, Dustin Doub of Pfafftown and Damien and Aubrey Wathelet of Belgium. She had a strong faith in God and really enjoyed life. A funeral Mass will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 29 at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church by Father Jo Barry Angelini. DANCY
WILKESBORO -- Mrs. Loretta Bell Dancy, 36, the wife of Phillip Dancy of South Recreation Road, died Monday, Nov. 27. Mrs. Dancy was born Nov. 8, 1964, in Iredell County to J.C. and Ethel Reeves Bell. She was a member of Mount Pleasant Baptist Church. Surviving, in addition to her husband, are her father and stepmother, J.C. and Hallie Belle of North Wilkesboro, and a brother, Ronnie Faw of Millers Creek. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 30, at Miller Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Dale Millstead officiating. Burial will be in the Mountlawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at Miller Funeral Services in North Wilkesboro from 6:30 to 8:30 tonight (Wednesday).

DORSE
BOONVILLE -- Mr. William Terry Dorse, 83, of U.S. Highway 67 W. passed away Monday, Nov. 27, 2000, at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home in Winston-Salem. He was born March 18, 1917, in Lewisville to the late William Henry and Susie Tuttle Dorse. Mr. Dorse was retired from Chatham Manufacturing in Elkin with 46 years of service and worked for several years with Boonville Home Furnishings. He was a member of Boonville Baptist Church. He was a devoted husband to Mary Poindexter Dorse, who preceded him in death in 1994. Surviving are his daughter and son-in-law, Linda D. and Carroll Oakes of Boonville; grandchildren Glenn C. Jr. and Luonna Oakes and Billy and Kirsten Oakes; great-grandchildren Phillip Riley Oakes and Cameron Elizabeth Oakes; and two brothers, Bahnson (Katherine) Dorse of Lewisville and Worth (Iva) Dorse of Mocksville. Mr. Dorse was also preceded in death by two sisters, Cecil Ketner and Elizabeth Barkley. His funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Boonville Baptist Church by the Rev. Larry Thompson. He will lie in state 30 minutes before the service. Burial will follow in the Boonville cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Gentry Family Funeral Service, Highway 6-1 N., Yadkinville. JOHNSON
Ms. Esther Regina Johnson, 75, of 225 Styers Road, Winston-Salem, passed away at home Saturday, Nov. 25, 2000, at 3:26 p.m. A native of the city, she was educated in the public school system and was a graduate of Hunter Junior College, New York City. She was a self-employed certified tax preparer. Ms. Johnson was a member of Mount Zion Baptist Church from childhood and was also a member of the Missionary Circle, the love of her life. She belonged to the Hunter Hill Community Club and was, when her health permitted, a volunteer at Reynolda Health Center. She was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Johnson, and a brother, Johnny Johnson. She leaves to cherish her memory a sister, Ms. Delois K. Rader of the home; a brother, Mr. Daniel B. Todd of Winston-Salem; two nieces, Angela and Esther Johnson of Washington, D.C.; and two devoted friends, Mrs. Sarah Lucille Evans and Ms. Pauline Jackson, both of Winston-Salem. Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 3, 2000, at Mount Zion Baptist Church with the Rev. Churn officiating. Burial will follow in Evergreen cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2:30 to 3 p.m. at the church. The body will be placed in the church at 2 p.m. to lie in state until the service hour. KUTASSY
Mrs. Esther Szekely Kutassy, 97, of Winston-Salem died Monday, Nov. 27, 2000, at Meadowbrook Terrace of Davie. She was born July 20, 1903, in Hungary to the late Louis and Theresa Viragos Szekely. She came to the United States with her parents at the age of three, and they resided in Detroit. Mrs. Kutassy was an active member of the Clemmons Chapter of the Eastern Star and was a member of King of Glory Lutheran Church in Clemmons. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest Kutassy, in 1963. She is survived by her daughter, Audrey, and husband, Norman Drouillard of Winston-Salem; four grandchildren, Alan, Norman Jr., Rachelle and Doreen Drouillard; six great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. A funeral service will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel by the Rev. Phillip Squire. Burial will be in the Cadillac Memorial Gardens East in Mount Clemens, Mich. The family will receive friends following the service Wednesday evening. Memorials may be made to the King of Glory Lutheran Church, 2580 Old Glory Road, Clemmons, NC 27012.

LEWIS
ORMOND BEACH, Fla. -- Mr. Fred Eugene Lewis, 81, of S. Orchard St. died Thursday, Nov. 23, 2000, at the Coquina Center in Ormond Beach. He was a native of Winston-Salem. Mr. Lewis was a retired manufacturer's representative for Seilig Chemical Co. in Atlanta and an Army Air Force veteran of World War II. He enjoyed golfing and playing the piano. Surviving are his wife of 58 years, Bonnie Lewis; a son, Fred Lewis Jr. of Winston-Salem; and a daughter, Susan Bamford of Keystone Heights, Fla. Memorials may be made to the charity of the donor's choice. Volusia Memorial Funeral Home, Ormond Beach, is serving the family.

MAYHEW
Hubert "Buster" Mayhew died at his home Monday, Nov. 27. He was a wonderful husband and a great father. Survivors include his wife, Lynn Culler Mayhew; four daughters, Tobie Ingol and husband Marty of Yadkinville, Kelly Church and husband Ralph, Stacey Mayhew and Kayla Hinshaw, all Winston-Salem; his mother, Mary L. Mayhew of Stony Point; five sisters, Betty Anderson of Centerville, Ga., Aileen Pope of Statesville, Dot Brown of Winston-Salem, Pat Stewart of Statesville and Linda Stewart of Long Island; three brothers, Don Mayhew and Steve Mayhew, both of Stony Point, and Michael Mayhew of Statesville; and three grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Union Gospel Baptist Church in Germanton. The family will receive friends at the church for one hour before the service. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Arrangements by Memorial Funeral Chapel.

MILLER
Mrs. Francine Truesdale Miller was born April 25, 1919, in Chester, S.C., to the late Otis Bradford and Sadie McClinton Truesdale. She departed this life quietly and serenely Friday, Nov. 24, 2000, at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center. She was married to the late Raymond Preston Miller and to this union seven children were born. She was a retired employee of the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County School System, where she was a dietitian. She was a member of St. John CME Church for more than 60 years, where she was a member of the Bible study group, Pastor's Aide and the Gospel Choir, which she thoroughly enjoyed. Mrs. Miller leaves to cherish her memories four daughters, Barbara A. Lash (William) of Wilmington, Del., Patricia L. Simon (Herbert) of New Haven, Conn., Marlene D. Howard (Arnold) and Frances E. Townsend (Terry) of Rural Hall; three sons, Raymond P. Miller Jr. (Marjorie) of New Haven, Conn., Richard B. Miller (Faye) and Michael E. Miller (Cheryl) of Winston-Salem; three sisters, Annie L. Williams, Millie J. Davidson and Carolyn R. Higgins all of Winston-Salem; two brothers, Jimmy K. Truesdale (Beatrice) of Winston-Salem and Henry (Stephanie) Rochelle of Pontiac, Mich.; 18 grandchildren; six nieces; two nephews; a host of great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins; a devoted and dependable neighbor and friend, Wilma Dobson; and other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 30, 2000, at the St. John CME Church with the Rev. Bobby Best, Pastor, officiating. Interment will follow in Piedmont Memorial Gardens. PINGUE
GREENSBORO -- Mr. Larry Pingue, 55, died Monday, Nov. 27, 2000, at Moses Cone Hospital in Greensboro. A Mass of Christian burial will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 30, 2000, at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church. Mr. Pingue was a design engineer with AMP-Tyco International. He was a member of St. Paul the Apostle Church and a Eucharistic minister. He is survived by his wife, Pat Pingue, and his children, Laura and Michael, of the home; sisters Loretta Hass and her husband Howard, and Hilda Le Masney of Philadelphia; and several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 29, 2000, with a rosary service at 7 p.m. at Forbis & Dick Guilford Chapel on West Friendly Ave. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Laura & Michael Pingue Scholarship Fund, 4914 Riding Ridge Drive, Greensboro, NC 27410, or to Hospice of Greensboro, 2500 Summit Ave., Greensboro, NC 27405.

RARING
PFAFFTOWN -- Mr. Andrew M. Raring passed away at his residence Nov. 27, 2000. Mr. Raring was born May 24, 1945, in Amityville, N.Y., and raised in Glastonbury, Conn., before moving south to attain a B.S. degree in geology from Washington and Lee University in 1967. There he was a member of Lambda Chi Alpha, a Robert E. Lee Research Scholar, a National Science Foundation Grant recipient and worked for the school paper and radio station. He continued his education at Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pa., attaining his M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in geology. In 1970, prior to completing Ph.D. studies, Mr. Raring worked at Lamont Doherty Research Center as a core specialist and traveled for nine months on the research vessel "The Vema." On April 3, 1971, he married Sue Ann Stewart. In 1973 they moved to Bartlesville, Okla., where he began his career in the oil and gas industry with Phillips Petroleum. His career opportunities continued in Texas at Gulf Oil Co. (Houston) and later to Geotronics Corp. (Austin). As a resident of Bastrop, Texas, he was honored as a write-in candidate for mayor. From 1979 to 1985, he worked as district geophysicist and manager for Placid Oil Co. and later as vice president of geophysics for Petrolero Corp., both in San Antonio. During this time he also served as president of the San Antonio Geophysical Society. In 1985, Mr. Raring became a self-employed oil and gas consultant and throughly enjoyed the challenge of exploration. The family moved in 1990 to Pfafftown where Mr. Raring worked as the regional hydrogeological supervisor with the N.C. DEHNR Groundwater Division and then as a senior geologist with Engineering Tectonics. Since 1993 he enjoyed the professional and personal friendships that developed while helping numerous clients as a self-employed environmental consultant. Mr. Raring was an avid tennis player as a member of the "Kourt Katz" and was active in his community, serving as president of Brookcliffe Community Club. He was also a member of the Winston-Salem Friends Meeting and recently chaired the Peace and Social Concerns Committee. In January 2001 he was to have begun a three-year term as an elder of the Meeting. His gifts will be missed by the Friends Meeting. Above all, he will be remembered as a family man. Mr. Raring is survived by his parents, Mike and Cornelia Raring of Fredricksburg, Va.; his wife, Sue Ann; sons Otis Michael Raring of Austin, Texas, Alexander DeSilva Raring of Arlington, Va., and Stewart Arlen Raring of Blacksburg, Va.; a brother, David Raring of Battleground, Wash.; as well as other loving family members. The fam ily would like to extend their love and gratitude to numerous friends, and to Diane Morrow, M.D.; the WFUBMC Oncology Department, in particular Dr. Bayard Powell and Liz Ferrell, P.A.; Pat DeChatelet; the 7th floor Outpatient Clinic staff; the Cancer Support Group facilitat ed by Gail Hurt, R.N.; Hospice of Winston-Salem; Ginny Hen dren, the Casket Co.; Bettye Howell, Pastoral Care and Ju dith Dancy, pastoral minister of Winston-Salem Friends Meet ing. Immediately following the service, the family will receive friends in the fellowship hall. TILLOTSON
Ms. Mary Lee Tillotson, 78, of 2642 Fairlawn Drive died Monday, Nov. 27, 2000, at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. Ms. Tillotson was born March 19, 1922, to John Henry and Mary Alice Shore Tillotson. She lived her life in Forsyth County and was a member of Burkhead United Methodist Church. She was retired from Forsyth Medical Center. Surviving are two brothers, Harold Jones Tillotson of Winston-Salem and John Henry "Bud" Tillotson Jr. of Sanford; a number of nieces and nephews; and many friends. A graveside service will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Woodland cemetery with Rance Tillotson officiating. Memorials may be made to the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston-Salem, NC 27103 or to Hospice of Winston-Salem/Forsyth County, 1100-C S. Stratford Road, Winston-Salem, NC 27103.

TIRRELL
CLEMMONS -- Carol Jean (Claycamp) Tirrell, 58, died Friday, Nov. 17, 2000, at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home after a yearlong battle with pancreatic cancer. She was born Aug. 13, 1942, in Harper, Kan., to Ella Marie (Parker) Claycamp and the late Leslie Clarence Claycamp. She spent a cherished childhood on a farm between Ames and Rice in Cloud County, Kan., and in the community of Benton, Kan., with her parents and four siblings. After graduating from Benton High School in 1959, she entered Kansas State Teachers' College in Emporia where she received her bachelor's degree in elementary education. In September of 1963, at the age of 21, she began her lifelong teaching career at Heusner Elementary School in Salina, Kan. Carol wed the late Dr. Richard Irving Tirrell, at that time a second lieutenant at Schilling Air Force Base, on Oct. 9, 1965. She received her master's degree in elementary education from Kansas State Teachers' College in 1967. Carol had been with the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools since 1974 and had worked as the curriculum coordinator at Old Richmond Elementary in Tobaccoville for 25 years. She was a devoted wife and mother and had many interests, hobbies and friends. Carol enjoyed traveling domestically and abroad, singing in the Messiah, collecting antique children's books and volunteering for the Ronald McDonald house and other charitable organizations. She was an accomplished pianist and would often play piano during the Sunday service at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship where she was a longtime member and past president. She is survived by two sons, Mark Allen Tirrell (Anna) of Winston-Salem and Gregory Richard Tirrell of Clemmons; her mother, Ella of Augusta, Kan.; her brother, Leslie Duane Claycamp (Trudy), also of Augusta; her sister, Janet Marie Duncan (Gerald) of Girard, Kan.; her brother, Dean Ray Claycamp (Paula) of Wichita, Kan.; her sister, Diane Kay Hraban (Tom) of Ponca City, Okla.; her sister-in-law, Jean Prescott (Tirrell) Pratt (Don) of Springfield, Pa.; and many beloved cousins, nieces and nephews. TROXLER
Mr. Charles Alexander Troxler, 92, of Heritage Woods died Monday morning, Nov. 27, 2000, at Forsyth Medical Center after a short illness. He was born June 27, 1908, in Greensboro to Alexander Monroe Troxler and Ann Williams Troxler. He married Ethel Brandon of Winston-Salem in 1929. She preceded him in death in 1993. His parents; two sisters; a brother; and a grandson, Jeffery T. Clubb also preceded him in death. He had worked as a stereotyper in the pressroom of first the High Point Enterprise, then the Winston-Salem Jour nal and Sentinel before moving to New York, where he worked for the Herald-Tribune and The New York Times. Mr. Troxler was a member of Calvary Moravian Church and the Winston-Salem Odd Fellows Lodge, active in both as long as his health permitted. He is survived by his daughter, Shirley T. Clubb and her husband Charles V. Newman of Bermuda Run; a granddaughter, Robin C. Whitley and her husband David of Clemmons; a grandson, Charles Brian Clubb and his wife April of San Diego; two great-granddaughters, Brooke and Christy Whitley of Clemmons; and two sisters, Elizabeth Crawford of Kernersville and Frances Chniel of High Point. Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Thursday at Calvary Moravian Church by the Rev. Lane Sapp and the Rev. David Merritt. Burial will follow in the Moravian Graveyard. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Vogler & Sons Main Street Chapel. Memorials may be made to Calvary Moravian Church, 600 Holly Ave., Winston-Salem, NC 27101.
