ARMSTRONG
Estelle Easterby Armstrong, formerly of Henderson, died Sunday, Nov. 26, 2000, at the Brookridge Retirement Community in Winston-Salem after an extended illness. She was born July 18, 1923, in Laurens, S.C., to Ernest D. and Estelle Gregory Easterby. She graduated from Converse College. She was a longtime member of First Baptist Church in Henderson, where she served as chairwoman of the memorials committee and the missions committee, and was a member of the finance committee. She was a past president of the Hospital Guild at the Maria Parham Hospital and a member of the ALMA Book Club. She is survived by her husband, Jack W. Armstrong of Winston-Salem; a son and his wife, Bill and Margaret Armstrong of Denver, Colo.; three grandsons, Bill Jr., Brian and Spencer; and a sister, Harriett Easterby Faris of Laurens. A memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 30, 2000, at First Baptist Church, Henderson by Dr. Marion D. Lark. The family will receive friends immediately after the service in the fellowship hall. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Alzheimer's Association, 3420 Shamrock Drive, Charlotte, NC 28215. Arrangements are by the J.M. White Funeral Home.

BOYLES
KING -- Mrs. Carrie Creola Cook Boyles, 85, of 216 Holly Drive, widow of the late Leo Boyles, died Monday, Nov. 27, 2000, at Northern Hospital of Surry County in Mount Airy. Mrs. Boyles was born Nov. 17, 1915, in Surry County to the late Lee Franklin and Emma Lee Lawson Cook and was a member of Mount Carmel Baptist Church. Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Penny and Jerry Dodson of King; a grandson and wife, Mark and Renae Dodson of King; a great-grandchild, Anna, of King; a sister, Audrey Robertson, of Mount Airy; a niece, Betty Lynn Rigsbee, and husband, Chip; a nephew, Lee Franklin Cook, and wife, Cecelia; two great-nieces, Lauren and Jennifer Rigsbee; and two great-nephews, Eric and Tyler Cook. Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 29, 2000, at the Oakdale cemetery conducted by the Rev. Danny Culler. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Mount Carmel Baptist Church Building Fund, 1158 Mount Carmel Church Road, Mount Airy, NC 27030.

BRANDQUIST
NEW PORT RICHEY, Fla. -- Mrs. Olga Brandquist, 94, passed away Sunday, Nov. 19, at La Casa Grande in New Port Richey. She was born in Sweden and emigrated to the United States in 1927. She lived in Illinois and Florida. Preceding her in death was her husband Carl. She is survived by her son, Robert Brandquist, his wife Ruth and a grandson, Roland of Winston-Salem; a granddaughter, Mrs. Robin Richardson and a great-granddaughter, Kaylee of Peoria, Ill.; and a grandson, Richard, and great-grandchildren Dustin and Brittany of Wichita Falls, Texas. There will be no memorial service. Memorials may be made to Hernando-Pasco Hospice, 4422 Grand Blvd., New Port Richey, FL 34652.

BRINKLEY
PILOT MOUNTAIN -- Mrs. Bertie Pell Brinkley, 98, of West Dodson Mill Road died Nov. 26, 2000, at her home after months of declining health. She was born in Stokes County on Nov. 22, 1902, to the late Newell Franklin Pell and Ella Cook Pell. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jesse G. Brinkley; a sister, Odell Pell Wilson; and two brothers, Newell Franklin Pell Jr. and Henry Pell. Mrs. Brinkley was a homemaker and a member of Westfield Friends Meeting. Surviving are four daughters and sons-in-law, Rozella Brinkley Taylor and Orville Taylor, Lillian Brinkley Joyce and Bobby Joyce, Ethel Brinkley Mason and John Mason and Carol Brinkley Bottoms and Gray Bottoms, all of Pilot Mountain; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a stepgreat-grandchild; two great-great-grandchildren; three stepgreat-grandchildren; three sisters, Lettie Pell East of Petersburg, Va., Iva Pell Jessup and Stella Pell Vaughn of Westfield; and a brother, Lester Pell of Petersburg, Va. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Westfield Friends Meeting in Westfield with the Rev. James Parker officiating. Burial will be in the Pilot Mountain cemetery. Her body will be placed in the church Tuesday evening where the family will receive friends from 7 to 9 and other times at the old home place. After the visitation, her body will be taken to Davis & Son Funeral Home in Dobson to remain until time to be placed in the church 30 minutes prior to the services. The family has said that flowers are welcome and should be taken to the church Tuesday evening.

BROWN
Great-Grandma Brown went to live with the angels Friday morning, Nov. 24, 2000. She graced this earth for 95 years. Lema Lillian Hensley Brown was born to Berta Lee Vest and Robert Lee Hensley Nov. 12, 1905, in Buena Vista, Va. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Odell Brown, in 1968; her son, Raymond Odell Brown, in 1984; her grandson, Jerry Raymond Brown Sr., in 1988; and her daughter-in-law, Rachel Peddycord Brown, in 1999. She spent most of her life loving her family and friends. Earlier in her life, she worked in cotton mills in Virginia and North Carolina. She and her husband owned and operated Brown's Grocery in Kernersville for many years. Surviving are three great-grandchildren, Gerri Dee Crummett of Winston-Salem, Donna Kay Odrosky of Salisbury and Jerry Raymond Brown Jr. (Ray) of Winston-Salem and their loving and devoted mother, Deanna Glascoe Brown; three great-great-grandchildren, Hope and Jonathan Peddle and Sarah Odrosky; a brother, Wayne Hensley and his wife, a very special sister-in-law, Glenna Hensley, of Concord; and a sister, Irene Caldwell, of Conway. The funeral will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 28, 2000, at Hartsell Funeral Home in Concord with the Rev. Roy Ellis officiating. Interment will be at Carolina Memorial Park in Kannapolis. A special thank you to the Nursing Center at Oak Summit for their loving care and concern while Lema was with them. Also a special thanks to the nursing staff on the seventh floor at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center for giving her such comforting care.

CALIGARI
KERNERSVILLE -- Brendan Scott Caligari, 12, died Nov. 24, 2000. He was born Aug. 16, 1988, the son of Gene C. and Karen G. Caligari. Brendan was a student of Triad Academy, Winston-Salem. He is survived by his mother, Karen G. Caligari of Kernersville; his father, Gene C. Caligari of Winston-Salem; and brothers Yuri Braun of Stockbridge, Mass., and Justin Caligari of Kernersville. A memorial service will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2000, at First Presbyterian Church of Kernersville. Memorials may be sent to the Triad Academy, 905 Friedberg Church Blvd., Winston-Salem, NC 27127. Arrangements by Hanes-Lineberry Pierce Chapel, Kernersville.

COX MOUNT
AIRY -- Mr. William Grey "Bill" Cox, 66, of 181 Laurel Lane, husband of Mrs. Polly King Cox, died at his home Monday afternoon, Nov. 27, 2000. Mr. Cox was born Jan. 14, 1934, in Surry County to William Lester "Bud" and Lettie Tolbert Cox. He was retired from Surrey Bank and Trust and started his banking career in 1955 with Surry Loan and Trust. He was past president of the Mount Airy Kiwanas Club and had served in the U.S. Army. Mr. Cox was a member of Grace Moravian Church where he had served several terms on the board of elders and the board of trustees. He was a teacher of the John Walker Sunday school class and was a lifelong member of the choir and band of Grace Moravian Church. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Polly K. Cox of the home; two sons and a daughter-in-law, John K. Cox and Tommy C. and Donna Cox of Winston-Salem; two grandchildren, Anna Jane Cox and Margaret "Maggie" Lena Cox of Winston-Salem; and his father, Mr. William Lester "Bud" Cox of Orange City, Fla. Mr. Cox was preceded in death by his mother, Mrs. Lettie Tolbert Cox. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 29, 2000, at Grace Moravian Church conducted by the Rev. Tim Byerly, Dr. Neil Routh and Donna D. Hurt. Burial will follow in God's Acre. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy where his body will remain until time to be carried to the church for the funeral service. CRUYWELS
Mrs. Berthe Marechal Cruywels, 98, of Winston-Salem passed away Nov. 27, 2000, at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. She was born in Liege, Belgium, on Oct. 28, 1902, to Jean Baptiste and Maria Paque Marechal. She was educated by the Sisters of the Cross, receiving her teaching degree. She survived two wars in Belgium. In 1950, she came to Winston-Salem to live with her daughter and son-in-law. Madame Berthe taught kindergarten and French at Our Lady of Mercy and later became the librarian, retiring at age 80. She was a member of Our Lady of Mercy Church. Mrs. Cruywels was preceded in death by her husband, Mathieu Cruywels, and her sister, Noemie Marechal. Surviving are a son, Pierre Cruywels and wife Pauline of Belgium; a daughter, Anne-Marie Cruywels Vandiver of Winston-Salem; four grandchildren, Libby O'Neal of Winston-Salem, Michael Vandiver and wife Glenda of Winston-Salem, Anne-Marie Wathelet and husband Frances of Belgium, and Sandy Doub and husband Gary of Pfafftown; and four great-grandchildren, Zachary O'Neal of Winston-Salem, Dustin Doub of Pfafftown and Damien and Aubrey Wathelet of Belgium. She had a strong faith in God and really enjoyed life. A funeral Mass will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 29 at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church by Father Jo Barry Angelini. Burial will follow at Oaklawn Memorial Chapel. A Rosary service will be 7 p.m. Tuesday at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with Deacon Joseph Schumacher officiating; visitation will immediately follow the Rosary service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice, 1100-C S. Stratford Road, Winston-Salem, NC 27103 or to Our Lady of Mercy School Library, 1919 S. Main St., Winston-Salem, NC 27127.

DUNCAN
WILKESBORO -- Miss Anne Mae Duncan, 96, of Moravian Falls Road, Wilkesboro died Monday, Nov. 27, 2000, at Wilkes Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Nov. 29, 2000, at 11 a.m. at Reins-Sturdivant Chapel, with Dr. N. Nelson Granade Jr. officiating. Burial will be in the Moravian Falls cemetery. Miss Duncan was born July 9, 1904, in Wilkes County to William Madison and Roxie Lou Ferguson Duncan. Early in life she joined Moravian Falls Baptist Church but later moved her membership to First Baptist Church of North Wilkesboro. After graduating from Wilkesboro High School, she attended the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, receiving a grammar grade certificate. She taught for a very short time but that was not her field. Her advice to young people always was "Be sure to choose a profession you really like or change until you find the right one." Miss Duncan received a business certificate and was a secretary for several years with the Deposit and Savings Bank in North Wilkesboro which later merged and became the Northwestern Bank. One of the few women to become a bank executive in North Carolina at this time, Anne held the position as assistant cashier with the Northwestern Bank until her retirement in late 1971. She served in many departments in the bank from keeping the general ledger by hand to consolidating the branch reports. Anne's honesty and pleasing personality gained many friends for both her and the Northwestern Bank. She loved her work and was always ready to serve her customers. Anne was a member of the National Association of Bank Women, Inc. Since her retirement Anne had traveled extensively touring nine countries in Western Europe, Canada, Mexico and all of the USA except Alaska. She has been active in the North Wilkesboro Woman's Club having served as treasurer. A brother, Morse Duncan and two sisters, Mrs. Nell Baldock and Mrs. Vern Duncan Moser preceded her in death. She is survived by a sister, Wren Duncan of Wilkesboro; a sister-in-law, Mary Duncan of Wilkesboro; a niece, Beth Duncan Bates of Winton-Salem and a nephew, William M. Duncan of Wilkesboro. Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home in North Wilkesboro is in charge of arrangements.

GALLMAN
Mr. James Boyd Gallman, 86, of Winston-Salem died Monday, Nov. 27, 2000, at Forsyth Medical Center. He was born Sept. 19, 1914, in Spartanburg, S.C., to Joe and Emily Etta Lancaster Gallman. Mr. Gallman was retired from Greyhound and was a member of Oak Forest United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Eva Alexander, Mickie James and Ruth Salter; and three brothers, Otis, Claude and Owen Gallman. Surviving are his wife, Dorothy Gallman of the home; a daughter, Judy G. Wilhelm of Winston-Salem; a brother, Fred Gallman of Greensboro; and a grandson, Timothy Edward Wilhelm of Winston-Salem. A graveside service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Parklawn Memorial Gardens with the Rev. James T. Webb officiating. Memorials may be made to Oak Forest United Methodist Church Building Fund, 11461 Old US Highway 52, Winston-Salem, NC 27107. (Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel is in charge of arrangements.)

HAYNES
SALISBURY -- Mrs. Lois Brown Haynes, 68, of 101 Overhill Drive, Salisbury died Monday, Nov. 27, 2000 at Rowan Regional Medical Center in Salisbury. She was born Dec. 31, 1931, in Salisbury to Johnnie Heilig Brown and the late Dodd Addison Brown. She was a graduate of Boyden High School and the UNC-Greensboro where she received her degree in education. In her early years she taught school in Raleigh and later was employed with the Salisbury city schools. She was still active and served as vice-president of W.A. Brown and Son, Inc. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church where she was a member of the United Methodist Women, served on the administrative board and financial committee and presently served as church treasurer. She had been an active alumni and past president of the alumni association at UNC-Greensboro, a member and past president of the Junior Women's Club, was active in the Delta Kappa Gamma Society, the Rowan Museum where she served as a past board member and was treasurer, a member of the Book Marker Book Club and past chairwoman of the Salisbury Housing Authority. She is survived by her husband, J. Earl Haynes, whom she married Nov. 3, 1956; two sons, Steven Haynes of Winston-Salem and Dodd Haynes of Charlotte; a brother, Edward A. Brown of Salisbury and five grandchildren. A memorial service will be held Wednesday, Nov. 29, 2000, at 2 p.m. at First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Thomas Griffis, minister, the Rev. Sherri E. Barnes, associate minister and the Rev. Don Haynes officiating. Burial will be held in Rowan Memorial Park. The family will see friends after the memorial service Wednesday at the First United Methodist Church. At other times the family will be at the home. Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church Capital Fund, 217 S. Church St., Salisbury, NC 28144, Rowan Museum, 202 N. JARRELL
Mr. Herbert Clark Jarrell, 71, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, Nov. 26, 2000. He was a devoted and faithful husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, friend and servant of the Lord. He was a treasured member of Trinity Friends Meeting. Mr. Jarrell was preceded in death by two brothers, Preston Jarrell and William Jarrell, and a sister, Katie Burris. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Sylvia; his four daughters, Gwen Scott, Wendy Shockley, Cindy Polley and Renee Richarde; four granddaughters, Michelle Sener, Jamie Flaherty and husband David, Crystal Scott and Jennie Shockley; a very special great-grandson, Alexander Smith; a brother, Graham Jarrell and wife Evelyn; a very special nephew, Squeek Jarrell; and countless other family members and friends. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Trinity Friends Meeting, Lewisville, with the Rev. Robin G. Dixon Sr. and the Rev. Jake Penley officiating. Burial will follow in Forsyth Memorial Park with full military rites. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Trinity Friends Meeting, 819 Williams Road, Lewisville, NC 27023.

JOHNSON
WILKESBORO -- Mrs. Cordia Hayes Johnson, 97, of East Main Street, widow of George Parks Johnson, died Sunday, Nov. 26, 2000, at Villages of Wilkes. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 29, at Wilkesboro Baptist Church with the Rev. Roy Dobyns and the Rev. Bob Franklin officiating. Burial will be in Mountlawn Memorial Park. Mrs. Johnson was born in Wilkes County on May 8, 1903, to James Harold and Mary Jane Moore Hayes. She was a member of Wilkesboro Baptist Church and was retired from Smithey's Department Store. Mrs. Johnson is survived by several nieces and nephews. The family will receive at Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home in North Wilkesboro from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 28. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to the donor's choice.

KEMP
MOUNT AIRY -- Mr. Eldon Lewis Kemp, husband of Josephine Horton Kemp, died Nov. 27, 2000. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 29, 2000, at Northside Baptist Church. Arrangements are being handled by Howell Funeral Service in Mount Airy.

KILCULLEN
SWANNANOA -- Donna Marie Healy Kilcullen, 48, of 84 Bryant Road, formerly of Neptune Beach, Fla., died peacefully Nov. 27, 2000, at the Mountain Area Hospice Solace Center in Asheville. She was born in Philadelphia to John F. and Joyce Healy. She was preceded in death by her father, John F. Healy. She is survived by her three children, Thomas Patrick Kilcullen V, Mary Theresa Kilcullen and Steven Michael Kilcullen; three grandchildren, Tyler, Amanda and Carly; her mother, Joyce E. Healy; three sisters, Patricia Healy of Swannanoa, Kathleen Campbell of Pottstown, Pa., and Theresa; and three brothers, Thomas Healy of Bridgeport, Pa., Michael Healy of Middleburg, Fla., and John F. Healy Jr. of Norfolk, Va. A memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11:30 a.m. Dec. 2, 2000, at St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Hickory, with the Rev. Edward Sheridan officiating. The family will receive friends at a reception immediately after Mass. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Mountain Area Hospice, P.O. Box 16, Asheville, NC 28802, in memory of Donna.

MCGEE
WILMINGTON -- Mrs. Sylvia Ford McGee, loving sister, wife, mother, grandmother and aunt died Sunday, Nov. 26, 2000, at Chapel Hill Memorial Hospital in Chapel Hill. The funeral will be 1 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 29, 2000, at Calvary Baptist Church in Wilmington. Burial will follow at Oleander Memorial Gardens located at 306 Bradley Drive in Wilmington. Mrs. McGee was born Dec. 2, 1916, in Winston-Salem, a daughter of the late John Thomas and Emma Boyd Ford. Throughout her life, she faithfully served the Lord as the wife of the Rev. Aster Lee McGee, who preceded her in death by 12 days. She is survived by two daughters, Janet and son-in-law Charles Edens of Hampstead and Kathy and son-in-law Leon Turner of Raleigh; sons Johnny McGee of Summerfield and Phil and daughter-in-law Charlie McGee of Wrightsville Beach; seven grandchildren, David and Chris Murray of Atlanta and Charlotte, respectively, Philip, Samantha and Hunter McGee of Wrightsville Beach and Kristen and Rachel Turner of Raleigh; and "adopted" children, Peggy and Shelton Evans of Castle Hayne, their daughter Kim and son-in-law Wayne Moser, and their son Kyle Moser of Hope Mills. Also surviving are dear friends of the family, Bruce Thede of Greensboro and Jeff Parks of Roanoke Rapids; and a sister, Aima Lynch of Winston-Salem; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives in the High Point, Winston-Salem and Thomasville areas of North Carolina. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 28, 2000, at Andrews Mortuary located at 1617 Market St., Wilmington. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Calvary Baptist Church Elevator Fund, 423 N. 23rd St., Wilmington, NC 28405.
