BYRD
PINNACLE -- Mrs. Cletis Irene Byrd, 80, of 353 Stoney Ridge Road, Pinnacle, N.C., passed away Wednesday, Nov. 22, 2000, at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem, N.C. Mrs. Byrd was born Sept. 10, 1920, in Wilkes County to Lonnie Ambrose and Dora Estelle Woods Wiles. She was a homemaker and a member of Mt. Zion United Methodist Church. She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Jessie and Bill Brooks, Mount Airy, N.C., and Stephanie and Garry Hicks, Pinnacle, N.C.; a son, Randy Byrd, Pinnacle, N.C.; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two sisters, Judy Richardson, Traphill, N.C. and Madge Burchette, Lenoir, N.C.; two brothers, Edsel Wiles, Traphill, N.C. and Tony Wiles, Fairview, N.C. Mrs. Byrd was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Dallas Byrd; a sister, Justin Days; two brothers, Bobby Wiles and Buiel Wiles. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 25, 2000, at Mount Zion United Methodist Church by the Rev. Kristen Bargeron and Dr. Joe Myers. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. at Cox-Needham on Friday evening, Nov. 24, 2000. Mrs. Byrd is at Cox-Needham Funeral Home and will be taken to the church 30 minutes before the services. The Byrd family is being served by Cox-Needham Funeral Home in Pilot Mountain.

CAVE
BOONVILLE -- Mr. Benny Harrison Cave, 58, of 3633 Pendry Road died Nov. 21, 2000, at his home. He was born in Surry County Nov. 20, 1943, to Harrison and Edna Hodge Cave. Mr. Cave was preceded in death by his mother and father, Harrison and Edna Hodge Cave; a grandson, Trevor "T.J." Cave; and a sister, Naomi Hudspeth. Surviving are his wife, Hazel Marler Cave of the home; a daughter, Kathy (Richard) Comer of Sheyenne, N.D.; two sons, Darrell (Mary) Cave of Yadkinville and Scott (Wendy) Cave of East Bend; three grandchildren, Briar Porter of Sheyenne, Scottie Cave and Valarie Cave, both of East Bend; four sisters, Annie Lee (Alfred) Leatherman of Yadkinville, Margie Joyce of Mount Airy, Myrtle Fowler of Boonville and Ruby (Bud) Dalton of Mooresville; three brothers, Leo (Mildred) Cave of Dobson, Jim Cave of State Road and George (Dorothy) Cave of Dobson; and numerous very special nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 26, 2000, at Huff Funeral Home Chapel in East Bend by the Rev. Junior Royall. The body will lie in state from 1:30 to 2 p.m. Burial will follow in the Stony Knoll United Methodist Church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

CLINE
ADVANCE -- Mrs. Brenda Potts Cline, 54, died Wednesday night, Nov. 22, 2000, at Forsyth Medical Center. She was born April 2, 1946, in Forsyth County to Paul Archie and Mary Jane Myers Potts. Mrs. Cline was a member of Turners Creek Baptist Church. Surviving are her husband, Jimmy Wayne Cline of the home; her father, Paul A. Potts of Advance; a son, Richard Cline of Advance; two daughters, Glenda Lane and Sandra Micozzi, both of Advance; a sister, Shirley Walls of Advance; and three grandchildren, Dawn and Josh Cline and Angelo Micozzi. A funeral service will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at Turners Creek Baptist Church by Pastor Curtis Gibson and Brother Allen Barker. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at Hayworth-Miller Kinderton Chapel. CUTHRELL

Our beloved, Mr. Lloyd McKindley Cuthrell, Sr., 62, of 735 Pitts St., was born in Arcadia, N.C. to George P. Cuthrell, Sr. and the late Elizabeth Cuthrell on Nov. 30, 1937. He was called from this earthly life on Nov. 19, 2000. He attended public schools in Midway and Forsyth County. He was a graduate of Dumbar High School. He retired from P.H. Hanes Co. and Norman Stockton Clothing Store. He was a member of Goodwill Baptist Church, were he was part of the Mighty Men of Valour. He was a member of the Olympia #795, the High Hiram Tyre-Royal Select Masters #1 of Walkertown, the Royal Arch #68, the Knights of Temple #10 and the Consistory #64. Serving as president of the Happy Hill Association, he was committed to working to revitalize the community. He leaves to cherish his precious memory his wife, Virginia Cuthrell; his father, George P. Cuthrell, Sr.; three sons, Lloyd M. (Felicia) Cuthrell Jr. of Walkertown, N.C., Gregory D. (Denise) Cuthrell of Winston-Salem and Kenneth W. (Shelby) Cuthrell of Austin, Texas; Four brothers, George P. (Mary) Cuthrell, Herman (Pecolia) Cuthrell of Winston-Salem, Rufus (Alberta) Cuthrell of Advance, N.C. and Matthew (Janie) Cuthrell of El Paso, Texas; two aunts, Juanita Brown and Edith Cuthrell; an uncle, Claude Cuthrell; a grandson whom he truly adored, D'Andre' Cuthrell and a grandbaby who is on its way; and a host of nieces, newphews, cousins and friends. Special thanks to all the staff at the Sa lem Kidney Center and all the doctors and nurses that helped Lloyd through the years. We appreciate all you have done. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 25, 2000, at Goodwill Baptist Church, with the Rev. P.A. Samuels officiating. The visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m. prior to the funeral service. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Clark S. Brown & Sons funeral home is in charge of services.

DANNER Mrs. Madge Danner, 78, of Winston-Salem passed away Friday, Nov. 17, 2000. She was born to the late Munzie Danner and Clara Heath Danner on Oct. 5, 1922, in Harmony. She had been a resident of Winston-Salem since 1941. She worked at Carbon Plant, Western Electric for over 30 years and as a certified nursing assistant. She was a member of Shiloh Methodist Church. She served as the local president and state vice president for World War I Auxiliary #555. She was a member of Telephone Pioneers and served as an assistant chaplain for the Salvation Army Home League. She is survived by a son, Robby Boyles Jr. and his wife Jo Beth of Germanton; two grandchildren, Katie Elizabeth Boyles and Robert E. Lee Boyles both of Germanton; a sister, Betty Beeding of Mocksville; a brother, Richard Danner Jr. of Statesville; two nephews, Billy Beeding and his wife Jane and Gary Danner and his wife Becky; and two nieces, Judy Ledford and her husband Lanny, and Cathy Johnson and her husband Larry. Also surviving are numerous great and great-great-nieces and nephews and her beloved dog, Liza. Special thanks to those in the Baux Mountain Community who gave Madge support: her doctors, Dr. Meyer, Dr. Shih and Dr. Mbaomia; and to our angels at Personal Care Services. Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 24, 2000, at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens. A procession will depart from Vogler's Main Street Chapel to the cemetery at 1:45 p.m. The Rev. DEARMON
Mr. Elmer James Dearmon, 63, of 1148-B E. Fifth St., known to family and friends as "Dad," passed away Wednesday, Nov. 22, 2000, at the Winston-Salem Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center following a period of illness. He was born in Stokes County May 22, 1937, to the late William and Louise Dearmon. Mr. Dearmon lived in Winston-Salem for many years and was a retired farmer. He was a member of the Rock Hill Baptist Church in Stokes County. He was preceded in death by a brother, Lester R. B. Dearmon and a sister, Glenda D. Hill. He leaves to cherish his memory three children, Elaine Strickland and spouse of Mount Airy, James (Wyteria) Dearmon and William Dearmon; a grandson of Mount Airy; four sisters, Frances Dearmon, Diane Dearmon and Peggy Dearmon, all of Winston-Salem and Virgie (Ronald) Hawkins of Lewisville; two brothers, Robert (Carol) Dearmon and Kenneth Dearmon of Winston-Salem; two aunts, Verna Hatcher of Winston-Salem and Rachel Moore of New York, N.Y.; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many friends. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 25, 2000, in the chapel of Russell Funeral Home, with the Rev. Billy Ray Smith officiating. Interment will be in the Rock Hill Baptist Church cemetery. The family visitation will be from 12:30 to 1 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. ELY
We rejoice that our "Papa Dave" has gone to be with Jesus.
David L. Ely, 87, of Winston-Salem died Wednesday night at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. He was born Jan. 3, 1913, in Cairo, Ill. and was a native of Memphis, Tenn. For 30 years, he was the beloved husband of Nina Crutchfield Ely who survives. Also surviving are a son, David E. Ely and wife Diann; five stepdaughters, Carolyn H. Davis, Joann H. Yokley, Jacquelyn H. Stewart, Donna H. Wickstead and Judy O. Harrold; nine grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. During a 45 year membership in the Winston-Salem Host Lions Club, he served a term as president and 18 years as secretary. Memorials may be made to the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home, 1100-C S. Stratford Road, Winston-Salem, NC 27103. The family would like to recognize the love shown by Hospice to the family. A memorial service will be held Saturday at Fries Moravian Church, 251 N. GRIESER
GREENSBORO -- Carol Ann "Bitty" Daniels Grieser, 72, of 5015-C Lawndale Drive died Nov. 21, 2000. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at First Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Chris East officiating. A native of St. Lawrence County, N.Y., Mrs. Grieser grew up in Winston-Salem. She was the daughter of the late William Henry Harrison Daniels and Charlotte Elizabeth Way Daniels. Mrs. Grieser attended Reynolds High School and graduated from Salem College in 1950. She retired from the Guilford County Courts, First Offender Program in 1998. Mrs. Grieser was heavily involved with the Republican Party and was a member of the campaign staff for Sens. Helms and Broyhill. She was also a staff member of the 1988 presidential campaign of Sen. Bob Dole. Mrs. Grieser was a past member of the Guilford County Kendall Center's Board of Directors and a volunteer with the Horsepower Therapeutic Learning Center, which uses horses to aid handicapped children. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Greensboro. Surviving are a son, Bill Grieser and wife, Andrea, of Ashburn, Va.; her mother, Charlotte Way Daniels of Winston-Salem; and two grandsons, Alexander Grieser and Joseph Grieser of Ashburn. The family will receive friends at the church after the memorial service Saturday. Memorials may be made to Horsepower Therapeutic Learning Center, 8001 Leabourne Road, Colfax, NC 27235.

HAMLIN
Mrs. Madge Elizabeth Danner Hamlin -- On Friday, Nov. 17, 2000, God saw a need to call our loved one home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus. She was 78 years old. She was born to Munzie Danner and Clara Heath Danner on Oct. 5, 1922, in Harmony. She was a resident of Germanton. She was retired from Western Electric with more than 31 years of service. She loved her fellow Christians, and was an active member of Shiloh Methodist Church when her health permitted. She served as the local president and state vice president for World War I Auxiliary #555. She was a member of the Telephone Pioneers; the Salvation Army Ladies Home League for more than 45 years; and a member of the American Legion Post 55 Ladies Auxiliary for more than 20 years. She is survived by her husband, George D. Hamlin of the home; a stepdaughter, Kathy Davis and her husband, Ted, of Winston-Salem; two granddaughters, Melissa Ann Davis and Yasmeen "Little Miss Fussy" Davis both of Winston-Salem; two sisters-in-law, Mona Hewett of Winston-Salem and Edith Lindley of Coco Beach, Fla.; and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Friday, Nov. 24, 2000, at Vogler and Son's Main Street Chapel, with the Rev. Doug Butler officiating. Madge was loved and will be missed greatly, but she is at home in heaven. She is now free from this world; no more pain, no more suffering. She is resting peacefully until the resurrection day. God has also permitted her to be rejoined with her three infant sons, whom God chose to take at birth. Our loss is heaven's gain. Special thanks go out to the many people who prayed for Madge while she was sick.

HARDY
BURLINGTON -- Mr. Labin Palus Hardy, 83, died Wednesday, Nov. 22, 2000, at the VA Medical Center in Raleigh. He was born in Surry County to the late John Wesley Hardy and the late Senia Brindle Hardy. Mr. Hardy was a former textile worker, was of the Baptist faith and a veteran of the U.S. Army in World War II who fought in the Battle of the Bulge. He received four Bronze Stars. A graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 25, 2000, at Alamance Memorial Park. Dr. Don Carter, pastor of Baptist Temple, will officiate and the Rev. Charles W. "Chuck" Perkins Jr., pastor of Eastside Baptist Church in Mebane, will assist. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Stella N. Hardy of the home; three daughters, Mrs. Christine (Harold) Perkins of Mebane, Mrs. Linda E. (Madison) Howard of Graham and Miss Mary Sue Hardy of Butner; three sons, Michael L. Hardy of Raleigh and David L. Hardy and James W. (Kami) Hardy of Burlington; six grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Alma Hardy Mounce of State Road; and two brothers, Roger Hardy of Dobson and Leo W. Hardy of Elkin. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Mrs. Gertha Hardy Stanley and Mrs. Lillian Hardy Mendenhall and a brother, Homer Hardy. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Lowe Funeral Home & Crematory and other times at the home. Mr. Hardy will remain at the funeral home until taken to the cemetery for the service.

HILL
KERNERSVILLE -- Mr. Harry W. Hill, 66, died Wednesday, Nov. 22, 2000, at Florida Hospital, Altamonte, Fla. A native of Kinston, Mr. Hill lived in Kernersville, where he was captain of the Kernersville Rescue Squad and the Forsyth County Rescue Squad, a member of the V.F.W., the Sertoma Club and the Jaycees. Mr. Hill was vice president account executive of a marketing company and had served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean conflict. Mr. Hill moved to central Florida in 1982. He was preceded in death by his son, Rusty Hill. Survivors include his wife, JoAnne B. Hill of Mount Dora, Fla.; daughters Debra H. Bogardus of Dalton, N.Y., and Kelly H. Buckley of Apopka, Fla.; sons Alex F. Hill of Winter Springs, Fla., and Tim W. Dehart of Atlanta; brother Eugene Hill of Cairo, Ga.; sisters Edna Lee and Helen VanZant of Mount Dora; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 26, 2000, at Sedge Garden United Methodist Church, where he was a member. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 25, 2000, at Hanes-Lineberry Pierce Chapel, Kernersville.

JOHNSON
EAST BEND -- Mrs. Evelyn Elizabeth Doub Johnson, 85, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 21, 2000, at the Brian Center in Winston-Salem. She had been in declining health for some time. Mrs. Johnson was born Jan. 5, 1915, in Forsyth County to Aldine Speas and Margaret Lineback Doub. She was a devoted and loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was a member of Faith Community Church. Preceding her in death were her parents, husband Ray James Johnson; a son, Vernon H. Johnson; a granddaughter, Allison Beth Johnson; and two brothers, Nelson and Talmadge Doub. Surviving Mrs. Johnson are five daughters, Opal Southern, Mildred (Elmer) Martin, Carol (Robert) Matthews and Sherry (Mike) Poindexter, all of East Bend, and Betty (George) Shrek of Winston-Salem; four sons, Bobby (Martha) Johnson, Wayne (Shelby) Johnson of East Bend, Jerry (Gladys) Johnson of Newland and Paul (Amy) Johnson of Tobaccoville; a sister, Edith Smith of Winston-Salem; 20 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren. Services for Mrs. Johnson will be conducted 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 25, 2000, at Huff Funeral Home Chapel; the body will lie in state from 1:30 until time for the service. Burial will follow in the Union Hill Methodist cemetery. The Rev. Elisha Robertson and the Rev. Larry Walker will be conducting the service. KIPORUS
Geraldine Veronica Kiporus returned to the fold through Jesus Christ on Nov. 22, 2000, at 7:35 p.m.
She is survived by two daughters, Mary Ann Parks of Winston-Salem and Geraldine Remington of Everette, Mass., and three sons, Mike Sauvageau of Kittery, Maine, David Sauvageau of Massachusetts and Joe Sauvageau of King.
A memorial service will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 25, at Memorial Funeral Chapel, 5980 Kinney Road, 765-2793.

MILLER
Mrs. Ruth Elizabeth Miller, 77, of Mineola St. died Nov. 22, 2000, at Forsyth Medical Center. She was born in Johnston County Feb. 20, 1923, to Arthur G. and Mary Holsclaw Pennell. Mrs. Miller retired from AT&T with over 30 years of service and was a member of the Church of God Prophecy. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph W. Miller. Surviving are two nephews, David and Michael W. Marshall; a great-niece, Angela K. Marshall; a great-nephew, Ronald E. Marshall; a sister-in-law, Dorothy Pennell; very special friends, Gladys Wagner, Betty Bourne and Annette Hobson; two great-great-nephews, Steven Sweat and Michael Powell; and several nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 25, 2000, at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Stanley Glover officiating. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the American Heart Association, P.O. MITCHELL
Mr. Nicholas Worth Mitchell Sr., 87, died Thursday, Nov. 23, 2000, at Brookridge Retirement Home.
N.W. Mitchell was born in Winston-Salem May 31, 1913, the oldest son of Nicholas Mitchell and Annie Walker Mitchell.
At the time of his death, he was chairman of the board of Piedmont Federal Savings and Loan Association.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Meriel Bull Mitchell; son Nicholas Worth Mitchell Jr. and wife Caroline of Winston-Salem; daughter Meriel Mitchell Gregory and husband Richard of Atlanta; four grandchildren; brother McLean Mitchell of Winston-Salem; and sisters Marion M. Daves of Spartanburg, S.C., Geraldine M. Warren of Upperville, Va. and Emily M. Williamson of Bermuda Village.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Wilson W. Mitchell.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete.

GREENSBORO -- Mrs. Della Mae Holbrook Norman, 68, of 1588 Academy St., Franklinville, died Thursday, Nov. 23, 2000, at Moses Cone Hospital. Funeral services for Mrs. Norman will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 25, 2000, at Philadelphia Baptist Chapel. Interment will follow at Lakeview Memorial Park. Mrs. Norman was a native of Elkin. She was a member of Philadelphia Baptist Chapel. Mrs. Norman is survived by husband Frank A. Norman of the home; daughter Denise Compton of Franklinville; sons Eddie Norman of Asheboro, Kenneth Norman and wife Carolyn of King, Mark Norman of Franklinville, and Robert Norman and wife Teresa of Jonesville; brother Charles Holbrook and wife Sharon of Greensboro; sisters Rosita Holbrook and husband Ed of McLeansville, and Minnie Ruth Haynes and husband Alton of Jonesville; and six grandchildren, Jennifer Compton, Wesley, Brantley and Cassidy Norman, and Joey and Scott Spainhour. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, Nov. 24, 2000, at Forbis & Dick North Elm Chapel and other times at the residence of Mr. Ed Holbrook, 2215 Huffine Mill Road, McLeansville.
