BRADDY
Mr. Charles Braddy Sr. passed away Tuesday evening, Dec. 5, 2000, at the Winston-Salem Rehabilitation Center after a brief period of illness. Mr. Braddy was born May 23, 1928, in Latta, S.C., to the late Henry and Annile Braddy. He was a retired employee of the City of Winston-Salem Street Division. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Hazel Jean Braddy. He leaves to cherish his memories his wife, Mrs. Mary Alice Braddy; their children, five daughters and a son, Ms. Eunicel Marie Braddy, Ms. Carolyn Hamer of Latta, S.C., Ms. Annie Mae Braddy, Charlie Braddy Jr. and wife (Dorene), Ms. Mirenda Flemming and Ms. Mary Reynolds and husband (Daire); two other daughters, Betty Allen of New York and Mrs. Emma Horne (Theodore) of Seller, S.C.; 15 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; four sisters, May Frances Braddy, Joy B. Braddy, Agres Cambell and Paulere B. Braddy of Latta, S.C.; four brothers and sisters-in-law; very close and devoted friends, Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Barrer Sr.; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends. Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 9, 2000, at Beasley's Chapel, 3001 Old Greensboro Road, Winston-Salem with Raymond Barrer Jr. officiating. Visitation will be at 1:30.

CAIN
MOUNT AIRY -- Mr. Kenneth "Bob" Cain, 68, of 464 Hersey Collins Road passed away Sunday, Nov. 12, 2000, at his home after a long illness. Mr. Cain was born in Surry County April 1, 1932, to John Sidney and Bertie Mary Moorefield Cain. Survivors include three sisters, Beatrice C. Tucker of Rural Hall and Stella Phillips and Lina Cowick of Pilot Mountain; three brothers, Wade Cain of Mount Airy, Bill Cain of Pinnacle and Jay Cain of Mount Airy; and some very special friends, Vickie Ogle, Kathy Ogle, Wanda and Dwight Crabb and Tony Tilley, all of Mount Airy. A graveside memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 9, 2000, at Westfield Friends Meeting cemetery conducted by the Rev. John Stephens. Memorials may be made to Northern Hospice, P.O. Box 6626, Mount Airy, NC 27030. Moody Funeral Home is serving the Cain family.

CANTY
Merita Carol Canty of 1510 Waughtown St. passed away Wednesday, Dec. 6, 2000, at Forsyth Medical Center. She was born Nov. 7, 1947, to William Anderson and the late Edith Anderson in Forsyth County. She attended the local public schools of Forsyth County. Mrs. Canty was a member of the Church of the Living God. She was preceded in death by her mother; a sister, Billie Jean Hardy; and a son, Billy Wayne Young Jr. She leaves to cherish her memory a daughter, Ms. Aisha Canty; a son, William Byrd Young; a sister, Mrs. Vera Goodman; five grandchildren; godmother Dorothy Gibson; nephews William Hardy Jr. and Jeremy Lipscomb; and three nieces, Jean Goodman, Dione Goodman and Jaymal Hardy. Funeral services will be conducted 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 10, 2000, at Gilmore Funeral Home where Bishop Fidel C. Martin will officiate. Interment will follow in Piedmont Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 2 to 2:30 p.m. at the Gilmore Funeral Chapel. The funeral cortege will assemble and leave from the residence. Arrangements entrusted to Gilmore Funeral Home. CLARK
Mr. John Devlin Clark Sr., 79, died Wednesday, Dec. 6, at Arbor Acres Health Care Center after a long illness. He was born in Hamlet Sept. 2, 1921, to Samuel Walton Clark and Gladys Cogburn Clark, one of seven children. At an early age, his family moved to Eutawville, S.C. He graduated from the University of South Carolina in 1943. He entered the U.S. Army Air Forces and served in World War II as a member of the Eighth Air Force, stationed in England. He received the Distinguished Flying Cross and later retired as a lieutenant colonel in the Air Force Reserves. He married Margaret "Peggy" Cunningham in December 1951. He began his 39-year career with Sears & Roebuck Co. as a trainee in Winston-Salem. After assignments in a number of different cities, he was made the store manager in Winston-Salem in 1966. He retired from Sears in 1986. John was very active in the community, serving on numerous boards, including Old Salem, Boy Scouts Old Hickory Council, Senior Services, American Red Cross, Winston-Salem State University, Goodwill Industries, United Way, Chamber of Commerce, Food Bank of Northwest N.C., Child Guidance Center, Winston-Salem Symphony, Salvation Army, Junior Achievement, Winston-Salem and North Carolina Retail Merchants Associations, Forsyth Medical Center and the Winston-Salem Urban League. He received numerous awards and recognitions for his service to the community, including the Silver Beaver, Sertoma Club Service to Mankind and the National Conference of Christian and Jews Brotherhood of Man. He was a member of the Rotary Club of Winston-Salem. He was an active member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church and served the Episcopal Church in many ways, including the vestry and a board member of the Kanuga Conference Center and the Thompson Children's Home. He is survived by his wife, Peggy of the home; three sons, John Devlin Clark Jr. and Robert C. Clark and his wife Debbie of Winston-Salem and Walton V. Clark and his wife Deedy of Cresskill, N.J.; two sisters, Anne Blincow of Greenville, S.C., and Mary Dressel of Atlanta; and eight grandchildren, Ross, Wesley, Kathryn, Sarah, Melissa and John of Winston-Salem and Walton Jr. and Patricia of Cresskill. The funeral service will be 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 8, at St. Paul's Episcopal Church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be sent to Kanuga Conference Center, P.O. Box 250, Hendersonville, NC 28793, or to Senior Services, Williams Alzheimer's Adult Day Care Center, 836 Oak St., Suite 320, Winston-Salem, NC 27101-1445. Vogler's Reynolda Road Chapel is serving the family.

CRENSHAW
MARTINSVILLE, Va. -- Mr. Carlton C. Crenshaw Sr., 75, died Monday, Dec. 7, 2000, at Blue Ridge Rehab Center. He was born in South Boston, Va. June 13, 1925, to William S. Crenshaw and Harriett Crowder Crenshaw. He attended the University of Richmond and retired from Crestar Bank as a cashier. He was a member of Starling Avenue Baptist Church where he had served as treasurer and deacon. He was active in and served as treasurer of the Dyers Store Ruritan Club and had also served as treasurer of the Salvation Army. Surviving are a daughter, Cheryl T. Crenshaw of Kernersville; a son, Carlton C. Crenshaw Jr. of Martinsville; two brothers, William S. Crenshaw Jr. of Towson, Md. and A. Bruce Crenshaw of Birmingham, Ala.; and two grandsons. He was preceded in death by his parents and in October 1992 his wife, Ollie Minter Crenshaw. Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 9, 2000, at Starling Avenue Baptist Church with Dr. David Adkins, the Rev. George Agnew and the Rev. Dale Darley officiating. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 8, 2000, at McKee-Stone Funeral Services in Martinsville and other times at the home of Carlton Crenshaw Jr., 300 Lees Ridge Road, Martinsville. EVANS MOCKSVILLE -- Mrs. Virginia Dorman Hutchins Evans, 89, of Wilkesboro Street died Thursday morning at Meadowbrook Terrace of Davie. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Saturday in Center United Methodist Church with the Rev. William Wombough, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The family will be at Eaton Funeral Home Friday night from 7 to 9. They requests memorials be made to the Center United Methodist Church Building Fund, c/o Mrs. Linda Owings, church treasurer, 728 Wilkesboro St., Mocksville, NC 27028. Mrs. Evans was born in Glenville, Ga., Oct. 19, 1911, to the late Walter B. and Blanche Strain Hutchins. She was a practical nurse and a graduate of the Old City Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in Winston-Salem. She retired from the nursing profession after 49 years. She was a member of Twin-City Eastern Star in Winston-Salem and a member of the Camel City Chapter of the White Shrine of Jerusalem, where she was also a past Worthy High Priestess. She was one of the original seven charter members of the Mocksville Women's Club, a member of the Mocksville and Center Senior Citizens and a member of the Mocksville Senior Trotters Band. She was an active member of the Center United Methodist Church, where she was a charter member of the United Methodist Women. She was a well known award-winning artist in mediums of pencil and chalk. In 1990, the Davie County Commissioners appointed her to the Senior Center Advisory Board. Her hobbies included crocheting and cooking and benevolences extended to her community through her gifts of food and fellowship. Her husband, the late E.P. "Fuzzy" Evans, preceded her in death in July 1984. They moved to Davie County in 1960 from Winston-Salem. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Laura Markland of Winston-Salem and Mrs. Russell (Nancy) Hodges of Norfolk, Va.; a granddaughter, Crystal Markland; three grandsons, Jim Hodges, Bob Hodges and Scott Markland; and four great-grandchildren.

EVERHART
THOMASVILLE -- Mr. Arthur Lee Everhart Jr., 79, of 2313 Ball Road died Wednesday at High Point Regional Hospital. Mr. Everhart was born Nov. 8, 1921, in Davidson County, a son of Arthur Lee Everhart Sr. and Daisy Long Everhart. Mr. Everhart was the owner and operator of Everhart's Grocery. He was a member of Heidelberg United Church of Christ, where his mother was one of the original charter members of the church. He served in the U.S. Army Air Forces during World War II. He was married to Mary Grey Ward Everhart, who died Oct. 23, 1986. He then married Treva Lamb Clinard Everhart, who also preceded him in death March 6, 1999. Survivors of Mr. Everhart are a daughter, Miss Reatha Jo Everhart of Thomasville; a son, Robert Lee Everhart, of Winston-Salem; granddaughter Miss Kristen Michelle Everhart of Winston-Salem; and stepdaughter Ms. Marsha Reddick of Thomasville. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 9, 2000, in the J.C. Green & Sons Chapel with the Rev. Jamie Fonville and the Rev. Jim Staunton officiating. Interment will be in Holly Hill Memorial Park cemetery. The family will be at the funeral home from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Friday and other times at the home, 2313 Ball Road, Thomasville, NC 27360. FRAZIER
Mr. Bernie L. Frazier Jr. of 981 Foxhall Drive, Winston-Salem, died Thursday, Dec. 7, 2000, at Forsyth Medical Center after a short but courageous battle with lung cancer. Mr. Frazier was born March 4, 1930, in Greensboro, the son of the late Bernie L. Frazier and Grace C. Frazier. He was the owner of Bernie Frazier Construction Co. and the builder of many fine homes in the Winston-Salem area. He moved to Winston-Salem from Charlotte his senior year in high school and graduated from Reynolds High School in 1948 and was a 1952 cum laude graduate of Wake Forest University where he was a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity and was later a founding member of the Alumni Board of N.C. Sigma Phi Epsilon Chapter. He was a former member of Forsyth Country Club, Twin City Club, Piedmont Civitan Club and the Jaycees. Mr. Frazier was the devoted and loving husband of Phyllis R. Frazier, who survives him along with his daughter, Jean Anne Frazier and his beloved grandchild, Barbie Anne Fogg of Sarasota, Fla. He is also survived by his brother Tom H. Frazier and wife Millie of Bermuda Run and several cousins, nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends at Vogler's Reynolda Road Funeral Home at 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 8. Funeral services will be held 3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 9, at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Forsyth Memorial Park. GARDNER
DOBSON -- Mr. Carl Roosevelt Gardner, 66, of 394 Pratt Road, husband of Nancy Harbour Gardner, passed away Wednesday evening, Dec. 6, 2000, at Northern Hospital of Surry County. Mr. Gardner was born July 11, 1934, in Surry County to the late Floyd McCoy and Lela Stone Gardner. He was a retired tobacco farmer, a veteran of the U.S. Army, member of Pilot Mountain BB&T Bank Board and was of the Primitive Baptist faith. Carl was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and neighbor. He was always there when we needed someone to help with anything, whether it be a golf swing, a car or just advice. You never would have met him without seeing a glowing smile on his face. God has gained a special person today. He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Nancy Harbour Gardner, of the home; a daughter and son-in-law, Carla and Keith Marshall of Clemmons; a son and daughter-in-law, Todd and Greta Gardner of Dobson; four grandchildren, Kirstin Gardner, Scott Marshall, Karmen Gardner and Nate Marshall; a sister and brother-in-law, June and Warren Fulk of Dobson; and two brothers and sisters-in-law, John and Pansy Gardner and Carroll and Barbara Gardner, all of Mount Airy. Mr. Gardner was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Paul and Floyd Gardner. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 9, 2000, at Cedar Hill Primitive Baptist Church conducted by Elder Vance Jones and Elder David Edwards. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The Gardner family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday evening, Dec. 8, 2000, at Cox-Needham Funeral Home and other times at his home, 394 Pratt Road, Dobson. GOUGH
HAMPTONVILLE -- Mrs. Nina Sizemore Gough, 89, of West Yadkin School Road passed away Wednesday, Dec. 6, 2000, at Hoots Memorial Hospital. She was born Feb. 5, 1911, in Yadkin County to the late Barnet Sizemore and Mary Sizemore Shermer. Mrs. Gough was retired with 27 years of service from West Yadkin Elementary School Cafeteria and was a member of Flat Rock Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, John M. Gough, on March 31, 1994; three sisters; a brother; and a great-great-granddaughter, Lauren Brown. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Mary (J.C.) Wilmoth of Boonville and Mrs. Lois (Carlie) Pardue of Hamptonville; five sons, Gilbert (Phyllis) Gough, of Mocksville, W.L. "Buddy" (Ellen) Gough and Paul Gough of Winston-Salem, Jerrell Gough, of Hamptonville and Bobby (Jackie) Gough of Mount Pleasant, S.C.; a sister, Hattie Beck, of Yadkinville; 19 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; six stepgreat-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. Her funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Flat Rock Baptist Church by the Rev. Tim Cannon and Mr. Reid Lowder. She will lie in state 30 minutes prior to the service. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Friday at Gentry Family Funeral Service, Highway 601 N., Yadkinville. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Flat Rock Baptist Church Building Fund, P.O. Box, Hamptonville, NC 27020. GRAHAM
BLOWING ROCK -- Dr. Ray Logan Graham was born July 1, 1934, in Plainview, Texas to George Logan and Mildred King Graham and passed away Dec. 1, 2000, at Memorial Medical Center in Las Cruces, N.M. Dr. Graham received his bachelor's degree in mathematics from West Texas State University in 1956. He went on to earn a master's degree in mathematics education in 1960 and his doctorate in mathematics in 1968 from New Mexico State University. Dr. Graham spent 2 1/2 years as a mathematician at White Sands Missile Range in New Mexico, where he also wrote several technical papers on missile flight simulation. He taught high school math in New Mexico and was an instructor at Hardin-Simmons University from 1959 to 1962 and New Mexico State University from 1962 to 1963 before joining Appalachian State as an assistant professor of mathematics in 1963. He was promoted to associate professor in 1968 and to professor in 1971. Dr. Graham retired from the university in June 1995 and was awarded emeritus status by the Board of Trustees in December 1995. Surviving Dr. Graham are his wife, Mary Daye Graham, of the home; three sons, Kelly Graham, of Hilton Head, S.C., Kyle Graham, of Boulder, Colo., and Kent Graham of Blowing Rock; his mother, Mildred King Graham, of Blowing Rock; a sister, Peggy Sheretz, of New York City; a foster brother, Dr. Pat Sullivan, of Canyon, Texas; three stepchildren, Brenda Farris, of Walnut Cove, Calvin Johnson Jr., of Winston-Salem and the Rev. Timothy Johnson, of Great Falls, Mont.; and nine grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Kara Graham, and his father, George Logan Graham. Memorial services will be conducted at 10:30 Saturday morning at the First Baptist Church in Boone officiated by Dr. Lamar King, the Rev. Bill Rogers and the Rev. Timothy Jackson. JACKSON
Mrs. Lela Elizabeth Cockerham Jackson, a resident of The Oaks at Forsyth, formerly of 124 Pine Tree Road and Independence Village, died Dec. 7, 2000. She was born in Surry County on Oct. 2, 1909, to W.R. and Myrtle Felts Cockerham. She was preceded in death by a brother, Bernie Cockerham; sisters Ethel Thomas, Maggie Cockerham and Helen Bailiff. She was married to the late Cecil Lee Jackson Sr. on Dec. 18, 1929. Surviving are three children, Cecil Lee Jackson Jr. and wife Barbara McInnis of Fayetteville, Jean Jackson Holt and husband Dewey L. Holt of Winston-Salem and Lucy Jackson Brickhouse and husband Jimmy of Morehead City; five grandchildren, Dewey L. "Ed" Holt Jr. and wife Sherry of Goodlettsville, Tenn., Nicki Holt Angell and husband Mike of Winston-Salem, Kate Holt Holeman and husband Jamie of Hurdle Mills, Pamela Jackson and Jeffrey Jackson and wife Cathy of Fayetteville; a great-grandchild, Ashley Nicole Angell of Winston-Salem; and two stepgrandchildren, Lee Anne McCollum and Vance McCollum of Goodlettsville, Tenn. Mrs. Jackson worked 32 years at Hane Knitting in the T-shirt department and was a member of Parkway Presbyterian Church. She was also a member of the White Rock Home Demonstration Club. LYON
DURHAM -- Mr. Robert Landis Lyon, 87, died at home Tuesday afternoon. He was born in Durham to the late Wortham Clarence and Mary Hinton Lyon. Mr. Lyon was a member of Duke Memorial United Methodist Church and the Spence Kale Sunday-school class. He was a graduate of Fishburne military Academy in Waynesboro, Va., and later attended Duke University. Mr. Lyon served as the president of W.C. Lyon Hardware of Durham for 42 years. He was president of the Durham Merchant Association and a past board member of Central Carolina Bank. Mr. Lyon was an active member of the Durham community and was one of the Five Men of Vision who founded Durham Technical Institute, which is currently named Durham Technical Community College. He served as the chairman of the board of Durham Technical Community College from 1963 to 1971 and a trustee until 1980. Mr. Lyon was past member of the N.C. Senior Golf Association and was involved with the Durham Rotary and Salvation Army. Mr. Lyon is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Elizabeth Reeves Lyon; two daughters, Mary Elizabeth Lyon-Smith and her husband Thomas Franklin Smith of Sparta and Linda Lyon Turner and her husband Mebane Ewing Turner of Winston-Salem; four grandchildren, Mary Lyon Cimmet, Reeves Turner, Hannah Smith and Worth Smith; and two great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held 11:30 a.m. Friday, Dec. 8, at Hall-Wynne Funeral Chapel, 1113 W. Main St., Durham, with the Rev. Ruth Harper Stevens of Duke Memorial United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be private. The family will receive friends after the service in the chapel. McCLOUD
Bishop Alonzo Watson McCloud, Sr., 60, of 306 Clayton St. departed this life Tuesday, Dec. 5, 2000 at the Forsyth Medical Center. He was born in Winston-Salem Oct. 16, 1940, to the Rev. Amzie Cook McCloud and Annie Bell Watson McCloud. He was a 1959 graduate of Atkins High School and was an all-time varsity basketball player on a team that won a state championship in 1959. He was most famous for his jumpshot "shot on a dime." On the same team were "Happy" Hairston, George Archie and many more. He was married to Brenda Delores Johnson McCloud. He attended Winston-Salem State University and Piedmont Bible College. He was the founder and the pastor of the Tabernacle of Faith Church of Winston-Salem for more than 19 years and was the president of the United Evangelical Outreach Ministry Inc., which services every capacity of ministries throughout the world. He is survived by his wife, Eldress Brenda Delores Johnson McCloud of the home; three daughters, Missionary Pamela McCloud, Katrina McCloud-Miller (Kevin), both of Winston-Salem and Minister Cassaundra C. McCloud; two sons, Alonzo Watson McCloud Jr. (Bridget) and Elder Phillip Gerald McCloud Sr. (Michelle), both of Winston-Salem; six grandchildren, La'Nessa, Gerald, Phillip, Jr. Dela, Alonzo III and Brenia McCloud; a sister, Ezella M. Bellamy (Elmore) of Longs, S.C.; a devoted brother and sister-in-law, Deacon Roger and Veronica Johnson; other relatives and many friends. Bishop McCloud was called a father by many. Homegoing services will be held at noon Saturday, Dec. 9, 2000, from the Saint Stephen Missionary Baptist Church, with the Rev. Joseph R. Samuels officiating. Interment will be in the Piedmont Memorial Gardens. The family visitation will be from 11 a.m. to noon Saturday at the church. (RUSSELL)

METCALFE
Mrs. Jeannette "Jeanne" Reiland Metcalfe of Winston-Salem passed away Wednesday, Dec. 6, 2000. She was born Sept. 18, 1926, in Orangeburg, S.C., to Harold J. and Jeannette Murrell Reiland. Mrs. Metcalfe worked with the ESPN network in the '80s and early '90s providing scoring information. She was a volunteer for various projects in the community. Surviving are her husband, Morris L. Metcalfe of the home; a daughter, Laura Boblitz and husband, Robert, of Winston-Salem; a son, Lee Metcalfe and wife, Sharon, of Spruce Pine; five grandchildren, Trevor Edward Metcalfe, Rachel Jeannette, Jessica Lorraine, Sarah Elizabeth and Emily Rebecca; a brother, Harold J. Reiland Jr. of Simpsonville, S.C.; a sister, Irma Lorraine Harmon and husband, Allie, of Knoxville, Tenn.; and four nieces and a nephew. A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 8, 2000, at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with Chaplin Linda Lewis officiating. The family will receive friends after the service.

MOFFITT
Elizabeth Barber Sickles Moffitt, formerly of Lexington and Charlotte, passed away Thursday, Dec. 7, 2000. Mrs. Moffitt was born in Raleigh Dec. 17, 1907, to the late Dr. Milton Augustus Barber and Harriet Winfield Barber. Mrs. Moffitt graduated from Saint Mary's School and Junior College and the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill. She married Arthur deLoss Sickles from Rochester, N.Y., in 1932. After Mr. Sickles' death, she married the late Joseph Vestal Moffitt, Jr., from Lexington, where she lived for 38 years. While residing in Charlotte, Mrs. Moffitt was very active in the Charlotte Junior League, Charlotte Debutante Club and Christ Episcopal Church. She was a member of Charlotte Country Club. While in Lexington, she was a member of Grace Episcopal Church, the Dutch Club and her book club. Mrs. Moffitt is survived by her daughter, Betty S. McCann, and her husband, John L. McCann, of Charlotte; two sons, Arthur deLoss Sickles Jr. of Raleigh and Richard Winfield Sickles of Winston-Salem; 11 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a stepdaughter, Mary Hill Lender. Services will be private. Those who wish may make memorials to Christ Episcopal Church, 1412 Providence Road, Charlotte, NC 28207, Thompson Children's Home, P.O. Box 25128, Charlotte, NC 28229, Grace Episcopal Church, Lexington, NC 27292 or to the charity of the donor's choice. Harry and Bryant Co. is serving the family.

PATTERSON
ALBEMARLE -- Mrs. Vivian Esther Gardner Patterson, 83, of 427 Park Ridge Road, widow of Escar Floyd "Bob" Patterson Jr., passed away Tuesday, Dec. 5, 2000, at Stanly Memorial Hospital in Albemarle. Mrs. Patterson was born in Surry County Jan. 22, 1917, the daughter of the late Henry Lee Gardner Sr. and Naomi Ruth Johnson Gardner. She was retired from Quality Mills and was a member of Flat Rock Baptist Church. Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Brenda and David Scarboro of Albemarle and Pat and Ed Redmond of Mooresville; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and two brothers and a sister-in-law, Henry Lee Gardner Jr. and Nellie Gardner of Mount Airy and James L. Gardner of Havelock. In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Patterson was preceded in death by a sister, Addie Ruth Bass. The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 9, 2000, at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy conducted by the Rev. Robert Gruver and the Rev. Dudley Neal. Burial will be in Skyline Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. The family has requested memorials be made to Friends of Residents in Long Term Care, 3301 Woman's Club Drive, Suite 103, Raleigh, NC 27612.
