PORTER
Miss Auleno Flynt Porter, 91, formerly of 853 McGregor Road, Winston-Salem died Dec. 6, 2000. Miss Porter was born in Kernersville Feb. 15, 1909, the daughter of Annie Flynt Kerner and William Porter. She was the great-granddaughter of John Frederick Kerner, from whom Kernersville took its name. Miss Porter worked in personnel services and in real-estate management. Miss Porter was preceded in death by a brother, Waldo Porter and a sister, Margaret Porter Taylor. She is survived by her beloved nieces, Gale Taylor Hickerson of Richmond, Va., and Janet Taylor Saxton of Atlanta and six great-nieces and great-nephews. A graveside service will be conducted 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 9 at Main Street United Methodist Church cemetery in Kernersville by the Rev. Al Ward. Memorials may be made to Main Street United Methodist Church in Kernersville or to the charity of the donor's choice. Vogler Main Street Chapel is serving the family.

RAWLS
ROARING GAP -- William McClellan Rawls, 74, of Lake Drive passed away Dec. 5, 2000, at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem. A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 8, 2000, at the Holy Trinity Episcopal Church in Greensboro. A graveside service will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 9, 2000, at the Roaring Gap Church cemetery in Roaring Gap. A native of Rockingham, Mr. Rawls began his 40-year career in the hosiery industry with Acme-McCrary Corporation in Asheboro. In 1964, he joined Sandhurst Mills in Rockingham as vice president. When the company was purchased by Hanes Corporation, he served as senior vice president of its hosiery division. In 1976, he joined Kayser-Roth Corporation, where he served as executive vice president until his retirement. Throughout his career, he was active in the National Association of Hosiery Manufacturers, serving as chairman of the board and honored as Man of the Year. Upon his retirement, colleagues and friends funded the William M. Rawls Endowment at the Kenan-Flagler School of Business at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where Mr. Rawls received his undergraduate degree in business. This endowment provides scholarship monies for undergraduate business students needing tuition assistance. Surviving are his wife, Anne Abbott Rawls; daughters Janet Rawls DeLoache and her husband William Garrison DeLoache of Charlotte and Anne Rawls Zollicoffer and her husband Allison Caulaincourt Zollicoffer of Durham; grandchildren William Thomas and Rebecca Rawls DeLoache, Wilkins Lewis and William Rawls Zollicoffer; brother Harry Lee Rawls of Rockingham; sister Ruth Rawls Thaxton of Spartanburg, S.C.; nephew Thomas Rawls Thaxton and wife Julie; great-grandniece, Lauren ; and great-grandnephews, Kyle and Jordan Thaxton of Columbia, S.C. Following the memorial service, the family will receive friends in the Hayward Duke Room at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the William M. Rawls Endowment, attention Jane McLelland, Kenan-Flagler Business Foundation, Campus Box 3490, UNC-Chapel Hill, Chapel Hill, NC 27599-3490.

RILEY
JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. -- Mr. David Lee "Bubba" Riley, 51, formerly of 3044 N. Patterson Ave. passed away Tuesday, Dec. 5, 2000, at the James H. Quillen Veterans Administration Hospital, Mountain Home, Tenn. after an extended period of illness. He was born July 11, 1949, in Winston-Salem to the late Rosa Lee Feggins and Ernest J. Riley Jr. He was educated in the local public schools and graduated from Paisley High School. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps and was awarded many medals and honors including the Purple Heart. He was of the Baptist faith and he touched the lives of everyone he met with his kindness. He was preceded in passing by a brother, Terry Feggins. He is survived by his grandfather, Lee Feggins; two sisters, Linda (Willie) Cutter and Pamela (Charles) Mason; a brother, Ernest J. Riley III, all of Winston-Salem; two devoted great-aunts, Ozella Parks of Winston-Salem and Lillie Bolling of Long Island, N.Y.; an uncle, Paul (Dee) Feggins; three aunts, Paulette (Sylvester) Frazier of Highland Park, Md., Deborah (John) Powell and Kay (Chester) Boston of Winston-Salem; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 9, 2000, at the Russell Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. L.S. Werts officiating. Interment will be in Evergreen cemetery. The family visitation will be from 1:30 to 2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. (RUSSELL)

SATTERFIELD
Mr. Max Lashmit Satterfield, 67, of Winston-Salem died Wednesday evening Dec. 6, 2000, at Wake Forest University-Baptist Medical Center. He was born May 18, 1933, in Forsyth County to Edward E. Satterfield Sr. and Esther Lashmit Satterfield. Mr. Satterfield was a member of the Bethel United Methodist Church and the Masonic Lodge. He had retired from Lucent Technologies with 26 years of service and was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America. Mr. Satterfield was preceded in death by two brothers, Frank W. and Ray D. Satterfield. Surviving are his wife, Natalie Davis Satterfield, of the home; a son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Rachael Satterfield, of Huntersville; a daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Stanley Alford, of Winston-Salem; a granddaughter, Sarah Wise, of Clemson, S.C.; two sisters and their husbands, all of Winston-Salem, Gladys and Houstin Scott and Betty and Carl F. Spaugh; three brothers, Billy R. Satterfield, of Advance, Norman E. Satterfield and wife, Ruth, of Winston-Salem and Edward E. Satterfield Jr. and wife, Kathleen, of Winston-Salem; many nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Horace York of Clemmons. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in Bethel United Methodist Church by the Rev. Dana Wooten. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Bethel United Methodist Church General Fund, 2350 Bethel Church Road, Winston-Salem, NC 27103.

SEITER
KING -- Mr. James Michael Seiter was born Dec. 6, 1958, in Cleveland, Ohio, to Ethyl and Clarence Seiter Sr. He had lived in King for the last 16 years and was self-employed as a concrete contractor. The Lord took him home on Dec. 7, 2000. He is survived by his wife, Barbara Whisnant Seiter; his parents of Columbia Station, Ohio; brothers, David Seiter and wife, Jane, Thomas Seiter and wife, Beth, Clarence Seiter Jr., William Seiter, Kenneth Seiter and wife, Corrine, and Carl Seiter and wife, Cathy; and sisters Nancy Crespo and husband, Tony, and Ruth Conner and husband, Rodney. He is also survived by a sister-in-law, Patricia Whisnant; foster son, Kenneth Bauer; nieces Cassandra Seiter, Jessica and Gina Crespo, Teresa Seiter; and many loving friends. Vogler & Sons Reynolda Road is serving the family. No services are planned at this time.

SHEETS
Mrs. Mary Beeson Sheets, 100, of 320 Horace Mann Ave. died Tuesday, Dec. 5, 2000, at her home. She was born Oct. 19, 1900, in High Point. Mrs. Sheets was a member of First Baptist Church where she had served as secretary of the Mizpah Sunday school class. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde Ledwell Sheets in 1958. Survivors include a son, Dr. James A. Sheets of Sarasota, Fla.; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Saturday at Vogler & Sons Main Street Chapel. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, 501 W. Fifth St., Winston-Salem, NC 27101.

BRANSCOME
STATE ROAD -- Mrs. Verda Hamm Branscome, 89, formerly of Logun Road, passed away Friday, Dec. 8, 2000, at Elkin Health Care Center. Mrs. Branscome was born March 21, 1911, in McDowell County, W.Va., to George W. and Virginia Cornett Hamm. Mrs. Branscome was a retired owner of Branscome Grocery in Thurmond. She was a member of Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Wade Branscome; three brothers; and three sisters. Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Mrs. Nancy (Junior) Simmons and Bobbye Jean (Tink) Simmons of State Road; five grandchildren, Debbie (Wilson) Shelton, Sharon (Eddie) Shoupe, Annette Newman, David Simmons and Cathy (Mark) Macemore; 10 great-grandchildren; and two stepgreat-grandchildren. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 10, 2000, at Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Crestwood Memorial Gardens. Mrs. Branscome will lie in state 30 minutes before the service. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Saturday at Hodges Funeral Home in Elkin. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church Building Fund.

CHENEY
Mrs. Dolores Nottingham Cheney passed away Thursday, Dec. 7, 2000, at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. Mrs. Cheney was born in Macon, Ga. to Harry Eugene and Jennie Gwendolyn Butler Nottingham. Mrs. Cheney was a member of Knollwood Baptist Church, as well as the North State Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution and a member of the League of Women Voters of Forsyth Count. She also supported the arts in Winston-Salem, including North Carolina School of the Arts, Secca, Winston-Salem Little Theater and numerous others. She was a world traveler with a special affection for the coast of Portugal and Ireland. Surviving are a daughter, the Rev. Cecie Haxton of Buchanan, Va.; sons Mr. Jonathan Cheney and wife, Ethel, of Kernersville and Mr. Michael Cheney and wife, Penny Vance, of Long Valley, N.J.; grandsons, Tim, Josh and Aaron Haxton; a sister, Mrs. Gwendolyn Cox and husband, Philip, of Fredericksburg, Va.; nieces Mrs. Gale Robertson of Herndon, Va. and Mrs. Lisa Black of Austin, Texas; and a nephew, Mr. Robert Cox of Alexandria, Va. A funeral service will be conducted at 5 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 10, 2000, at Knollwood Baptist Church with Dr. Christopher Chapman officiating. Burial will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 11, 2000, at Greenlawn cemetery in Spartanburg, S.C. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel.

CLODFELTER
CLEMMONS -- Mrs. Sandra Alley Clodfelter, 49, died Thursday, Dec. 7, 2000, at her home. She was born Jan. 11, 1951, in Davidson County to Robert Paul and Inez Wilson Alley. Mrs. Clodfelter was a member of Unity Moravian Church in Lewisville, where she was a member of the Higgins Sunday school class. She was formerly pianist and organist at Oakdale Baptist Church in Spencer, Shilow United Methodist Church in Reeds and Churchland Baptist Church in Churchland. She was a graduate of West Davidson High School and the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. She received a master's degree in education from Appalachian State University and a master's degree in administration from North Carolina A&T University. She was a member of the National Board of Certified Teachers and the North Carolina Association of Educators. Formerly she taught school at William R. Davie Elementary School in Davie County and Churchland Elementary School in Churchland. She was presently a teacher at Marvin Ward Elementary School in Clemmons. Survivors include her husband, H. Brown Clodfelter Jr., of the home; a son, John Zachary Clodfelter, of the home; a brother, Robert Paul Alley Jr., and wife, Kaye, of Churchland; two nieces, Leslie Alley Tew and husband, Glenn, of Wilmington and Molly Rucker and husband, David, of Winston-Salem; two nephews, Matt Graham and wife, Jennifer, of Winston-Salem and Ben Graham of Asheville; two aunts, Dot McBride of Churchland and Virginia Corriher and husband, Junius, of Spencer; her mother-in-law, Selma C. Clodfelter, of Winston-Salem; and a sister-in-law, Diana Graham and husband, Maynard, of Wintston-Salem. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Unity Moravian Church in Lewisville by the Rev. Carl Southerland. Burial will follow in the church graveyard. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday at Vogler & Sons Clemmons Chapel.

COCHRANE
RUTHERFORDTON -- Mrs. Nina Smith Cochrane, 86, died Friday, Dec. 8, 2000, at Meadowbrook Terrace of Davie County. She was a native of Spartanburg County, S.C., the daughter of the late O.P. and Emma Brooks Smith. She was the wife of the late J.O. Cochrane. She was a former resident in the communities of Oak Springs and Mountain Creek, Rutherford County. She was a member of Mountain Creek Baptist Church. Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Joe K. and Senator Betsy Cochrane of Advance; a brother, Lyles Smith, of Spartanburg; two sisters, Irene Pruitt of Spartanburg and Ella Cabe of Sacramento, Calif.; two grandchildren, Lisa Ling of Clemmons and Craig Cochrane of Raleigh; and two great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 10, 2000, at McMahan's Funeral Chapel by the Rev. Billy Honeycutt. Burial will be in the Mountain Creek Baptist Church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Sunday prior to the service at the funeral home. DIMMETTE
KERNERSVILLE -- Ms. Dorothy Burton Dimmette, 68, died Friday, Dec. 8, 2000, at her daughter's home in Elkin. She was born Aug. 26, 1932, in Forsyth County to Leroy Burton Sr. and Gertrude Pegram Burton. Ms. Dimmette was a member of the First Assembly of God and was retired from General Motors. Surviving are her mother of Winston-Salem; a son, Philip Hamby, of Winston-Salem; a daughter, Sherri Lynn Coe, of Elkin; a sister, Phyllis Wiles, of Winston-Salem; four brothers, Leroy Burton Jr. of Lewisville, Alburn Burton of Walkertown, Wayne Burton of Pfafftown and Larry Burton of Advance; five grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel. Burial will follow in Westlawn Gardens of Memory. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

DINKINS
YADKINVILLE -- Mr. William Henry Dinkins, 86, died Thursday, Dec. 7, 2000, at Yadkin Nursing Center. He was born Nov. 23, 1914, in Yadkin County to the late Delbert Ray and Rosa Lee Speer Dinkins. Mr. Dinkins was retired from R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co. and was a member of Pilot View Friends Meeting. Surviving are his wife, Ora Lee Hutchens Dinkins, of the home; two sons, Henry Athalee Dinkins and wife, Nell, of East Bend and Billie Dale Dinkins and wife, Betty, of Winston-Salem; a daughter, Dorcas Mae Dinkins Cleary and husband, Dorman, of Yadkinville; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Avonell Vestal; an aunt, Mrs. Mary Ruth Flynn; and an uncle, Luther Speer. His funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Pilot View Friends Meeting by the Rev. C.G. White and the Rev. Don Luellon. He will lie in state 30 minutes prior to the service. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Saturday at Gentry Family Funeral Service, U.S. Highway 601 N., Yadkinville. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Pilot View Friends Meeting, Pilot View Church Road, Yadkinville, NC 27055.

GOUGH
HAMPTONVILLE -- Mrs. Nina Sizemore Gough, 89, of West Yadkin School Road passed away Wednesday, Dec. 6, 2000, at Hoots Memorial Hospital. She was born Feb. 5, 1911, in Yadkin County to the late Barnet Sizemore and Mary Sizemore Shermer. Mrs. Gough was retired with 27 years of service from West Yadkin Elementary School Cafeteria and was a member of Flat Rock Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, John M. Gough, on March 31, 1994; three sisters; a brother; a great-great-granddaughter, Lauren Brown; and a daughter-in-law, Shirley A. Gough. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Mary (J.C.) Wilmoth of Boonville and Mrs. Lois (Carlie) Pardue of Hamptonville; five sons, Gilbert (Phyllis) Gough, of Mocksville, W.L. "Buddy" (Ellen) Gough and Paul Gough of Winston-Salem, Jerrell Gough, of Hamptonville and Bobby (Jackie) Gough of Mount Pleasant, S.C.; a sister, Hattie Beck, of Yadkinville; 19 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; six stepgreat-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. Her funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Flat Rock Baptist Church by the Rev. Tim Cannon and Mr. Reid Lowder. She will lie in state 30 minutes prior to the service. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Flat Rock Baptist Church Building Fund, P.O. Box, Hamptonville, NC 27020. JONESVILLE -- Infant Hunter Blake Groce died Dec. 7, 2000, at Forsyth Medical. He was born Dec. 1, 2000, to Barry and Kristy Turner Groce of Jonesville. Also surviving are his sister, Lindsay Groce, of the home; maternal grandparents Allen and Judy Turner of Jonesville; paternal grandparents Ricky and Judy Griffin of Boonville and Alvis Groce of Ronda; maternal great-grandparents Marie and the late Carlie Lytes of State Road and Ola and the late Melvin Turner of Hamptonville; paternal great-grandparents Myrl Haynes of Arlington and the late Kate and Hubert Hemric; and several aunts, uncles and cousins. His service will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at Fall Creek Baptist Church cemetery by the Rev. Don Hudson and the Rev. Everette Carter. Gentry Family Funeral Service of Jonesville is serving the Groce family.

MOFFITT
Elizabeth Barber Sickles Moffitt, formerly of Lexington and Charlotte, passed away Thursday, Dec. 7, 2000. Mrs. Moffitt was born in Raleigh Dec. 17, 1907, to the late Dr. Milton Augustus Barber and Harriet Winfield Barber. Mrs. Moffitt graduated from Saint Mary's School and Junior College and the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill. She married Arthur deLoss Sickles from Rochester, N.Y., in 1932. After Mr. Sickles' death, she married the late Joseph Vestal Moffitt, Jr., from Lexington, where she lived for 38 years. While residing in Charlotte, Mrs. Moffitt was very active in the Charlotte Junior League, Charlotte Debutante Club and Christ Episcopal Church. She was a member of Charlotte Country Club. While in Lexington, she was a member of Grace Episcopal Church, the Dutch Club and her book club. Mrs. Moffitt is survived by her daughter, Betty S. McCann, and her husband, John L. McCann, of Charlotte; two sons, Arthur deLoss Sickles Jr. of Raleigh and Richard Winfield Sickles of Winston-Salem; 11 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a stepdaughter, Mary Hill Lender. Services will be private. Those who wish may make memorials to Christ Episcopal Church, 1412 Providence Road, Charlotte, NC 28207, Thompson Children's Home, P.O. Box 25128, Charlotte, NC 28229, Grace Episcopal Church, Lexington, NC 27292 or to the charity of the donor's choice. Harry and Bryant Co. is serving the family.

NOTTINGHAM
Elsie Josephine (Passera) Nottingham, 79, of Wyncote, Pa., formerly of Winston-Salem died Wednesday, Nov. 15, 2000. She was the wife of the late Clarence Nottingham of Winston-Salem. She was born in Clairton, Pa., and was the daughter of the late Battista and Catherine (Reinero) Passera. She was a member of the Immaculate Conception Church in Jenkintown, Pa., and formerly of Saint Benedict the Moor Church in Winston-Salem. She is survived by her sister, Gloria M. Moskal of Jenkintown, Pa., and her brothers, Peter Passera and his wife, Theresa of Mount Lebanon, Pa., and Robert Passera and his wife, Stephanie, of Las Vegas, Nev. She is also survived by 11 nieces and nephews and eight great-nieces and great-nephews. She was predeceased by a nephew, Thomas Passera. A graduate of Seton Hill College in Greensburg, Pa., she also had a master's degree from Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, Pa., and served as a teacher and counselor in the Clairton (PA) school system. Despite being legally blind, she and her husband traveled extensively throughout the world, especially in Central America. A Sunday mass will be said at Saint Benedict the Moor Church in Winston-Salem Dec. 10, 2000, at 9:30 a.m. A memorial Mass will be held at the church Monday, Dec. 11, 2000, at 9 a.m., with interment to follow in Evergreen cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Montgomery County Association for the Blind, 212 N. Main St., North Wales, Pa. 19454. (Russell)

MADISON -- Mrs. Thelma White Sands, 84, of 439 Amos Road died Thursday, Dec. 7, 2000. The funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 10, 2000, at Colonial Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Bethesda United Methodist Church cemetery. Mrs. Sands was born in Pocahontas, W.Va. She was a member of Lawsonville Baptist Church and was retired from Troutman Industries Inc. She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Sands; a son, Ralph Sands, sisters Rosie Cardwell, Grace Dunlap, Edna Purdy, Lula Brewer and Lily Dunlap; and brothers, Jack, Sammy and Virgil White. Survivors include her daughters, Mildred Amos and Margie Martin of Madison and Shirley Rominger of Walnut Cove; brother Ted White of Madison; 10 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 9, 2000, at Colonial Funeral Home and other times at the residence.
