SEITER
KING -- Mr. James Michael Seiter was born Dec. 6, 1958, in Cleveland, Ohio, to Ethyl and Clarence Seiter Sr. He had lived in King for the last 16 years and was self-employed as a concrete contractor. The Lord took him home on Dec. 7, 2000. He is survived by his wife, Barbara Whisnant Seiter; his parents of Columbia Station, Ohio; brothers, David Seiter and wife, Jane, Thomas Seiter and wife, Beth, Clarence Seiter Jr., William Seiter, Kenneth Seiter and wife, Corrine, and Carl Seiter and wife, Cathy; and sisters Nancy Crespo and husband, Tony, and Ruth Conner and husband, Rodney. He is also survived by a sister-in-law, Patricia Whisnant; foster son, Kenneth Bauer; nieces Cassandra Seiter, Jessica and Gina Crespo, Theresa Seiter; and many loving friends. Vogler & Sons Reynolda Road is serving the family. Noservices are planned at thistime.

SHEETS
Mrs. Mary Beeson Sheets, 100, of 320 Horace Mann Ave. died Tuesday, Dec. 5, 2000, at her home. She was born Oct. 19, 1900, in High Point. Mrs. Sheets was a member of First Baptist Church where she had served as secretary of the Mizpah Sunday school class. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde Ledwell Sheets in 1958. Survivors include a son, Dr. James A. Sheets of Sarasota, Fla.; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Saturday at Vogler & Sons Main Street Chapel by the Rev. Henry Stokes. Burial will follow in Forsyth Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, 501 W. Fifth St., Winston-Salem, NC 27101.

SHEPHERD
Mrs. Louise Church Shepherd, 90, passed away Dec. 8, 2000, at Forsyth Medical Center. She had been in declining health for three years and seriously ill for three months. Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at Christ Moravian Church by Dr. Samuel Marx and Randall Vogler. Interment will follow in God's Acre. Mrs. Shepherd was born in Winston-Salem Nov. 24, 1910, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Hillary Church and was the last surviving member of the "Old Lamp Lighter of Old Salem" (her father). She was retired from AT&T after 21 years of service and was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America. Mrs. Shepherd was a lifelong member of Christ Moravian Church, where she served faithfully until her health failed. Surviving are her husband of 66 years, Thomas Lee Shepherd; a daughter, Sandra S. Davis, of Winston-Salem; a grandson, Christopher Todd Davis and wife, Regina; and a great-grandson, Christopher Jordan Davis, of Glen Alpine. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday at Voglers Main Street Chapel. They request any memorials be made to Christ Moravian Church Organ Fund or to the American Heart Association.

SHEPHERD
WALKERTOWN -- Mr. Ralph Lee Shepherd, 59, died Friday, Dec. 8, 2000, at Forsyth Medical Center. Mr. Shepherd was born April 1, 1941, in Macon County, a son of the late James C. and Myrtle Holden Shepherd. He was a machine operator for RJR Archer. He served as a deacon and was a member of First Baptist Church of Kernersville. Surviving are his wife, Rebecca Collins Shepherd, of the home; three sons, Christian Shepherd of High Point, Sandy Shepherd of King and Millard Shepherd of Clemmons; a stepdaughter, Robin Perlman, of Treasure Island, Fla.; five sisters, Betty Robinson and Virginia Foshee of Milton, Fla., Patsy Shepherd of Atlanta, Lois Sims of South Hill, Va., and Shirley Emmons of Sapulpa, Okla.; four brothers, James, Marvin and Lonnie Shepherd of Franklin, and Vaughn Shepherd of Whittier; and four grandchildren, Speros and James Shepherd and Alexis and Ralph Shepherd. A funeral service will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 10, 2000, at First Baptist Church in Kernersville by the Rev. Paul Riggs and the Rev. Tom Southern. Burial will follow at Gardens of Memory, Walkertown. The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday at Hayworth-Miller-Cain Funeral Home, Kernersville. Memorials may be directed to the First Baptist Church Building Fund, 401 Oakhurst St., Kernersville, NC 27284.

STONESTREET
ALBEMARLE -- Mrs. Virginia Rogers Stonestreet, 86, a resident of Brookridge Retirement Center, formerly of Albemarle, died Thursday, Dec. 7, 2000. Mrs. Stonestreet is survived by her husband of 61 years, Dr. Frank M. Stonestreet. She is also survived by three sons, Dr. James F. "Jim" Stonestreet and wife Judy of Winter Park, Fla., John M. Stonestreet and wife Helen of Cornelius and Robert M. "Bob" Stonestreet and wife Vickie of Albemarle; a daughter, Linda Stonestreet Capilupo and husband Fred of Saylorsburg, Pa.; eight grandchildren; a great-grandchild; brothers and sisters Bessie Lee Rogers Fitzgerald of Laurinburg, Dwight L. Rogers of Birmingham, Ala., Jewell Rogers Culp of New London, William "Bill" M. Rogers of Albemarle and Betty Vaughn Rogers Moser of Lincolnton. She was preceded in death by H. Wells Rogers and Charles Junious Rogers of Albemarle, Geraldine L. Rogers Chrisco of Badin and Oron L. Rogers of Albemarle. A memorial service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at the First Baptist Church of Albemarle. Following the service, the family will receive friends in the church parlor. Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church Building Fund, 202 N. Second St., Albemarle, NC 28001 or to Stanley Count Hospice, 960 N. First St., Albemarle, NC 28001.

STUART
ELKIN -- Mrs. Betty Lou Spencer Stuart, 67, of Victoria Street passed away Thursday, Dec. 7, 2000, at Forsyth Medical Center. Mrs. Stuart was born April 1, 1933, in Surry County to the late Marvin Paul and Ohna Eidson Spencer. Mrs. Stuart enjoyed working part time at McDonalds in Jonesville and was a member of Elkin First Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Richard "Dick" Spencer. Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Sam and Angie Freeman Jr. of Hamptonville; two grandsons, Brighton Freeman and Alex Freeman; and two sisters, Mabel Gaither of Elkin and Ruby Roberson of Jonesville. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 9, 2000, at Elkin First Baptist Church by Dr. Bill Johnson. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Elkin First Baptist Church. Hodges Funeral Home in Elkin is serving the family.

TUTTLE
The Rev. Buddy Ray Tuttle, 68, of Winston-Salem died Thursday, Dec. 7, 2000, at his residence. He was born Dec. 5, 1932, in Alamance County to Adger and Daisy Ross Tuttle. The Rev. Tuttle was pastor and founder of Fairview Baptist Tabernacle, serving there for 20 years. He was also founder and director of Camp Joel, serving there for 40 years, and was a former pastor of Hillcrest Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by a brother, Bynum Tuttle, and his mother and father. Surviving are his wife, Pat Tuttle of the home; a son, Joel Tuttle of Winston-Salem; a daughter, Judith Tuttle of Apex; two brothers, A.G. Tuttle Jr. of Graham and Elwood Tuttle of Burlington; and a grandson, Andrew Gerard of Apex. Funeral services will be at 8 p.m. Monday at Woodland Baptist Church, with the Rev. Tim Gammons, the Rev. Zeno Groce and the Rev. Tommy Willis officiating. The family will receive friends at the church from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday prior to the service. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Parklawn Memorial Gardens. Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

ALLEN
Master Kevin D. Allen Jr. departed his precious little life on Dec 6, 2000. He was preceded in death by his godfather Bobbie Stover and his aunt Ramona Allen. Kevin was survived by his parents, Mary Glenn and Kevin Allen Sr.; a sister, Kolonay Stover; a brother, Jalen Lyles; maternal grandmother, Patricia Glenn and paternal grandmother, Areda Holt; paternal grandfather, James Holt; four uncles, Leon (Venecia), Robert (Areatha), Pete (Dekart) Glenn and Shaquill White; four aunts, Felicia Stover, Jane Holt, Alicia Malone and Paula Craven; a host of relatives and friends. The funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday at Frances S. Jerry C. Gilmore Memorial Chapel. Interment will be at Redland Church of Christ Church cemetery. Arrangements entrusted to Gilmore Funeral Home. (Gilmore).

CHURCH
NORTH WILKESBORO -- Mr. Edward Wesley Church, 67, of Sparta Road, North Wilkesboro, died Friday morning, Dec. 8, 2000, at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center. Mr. Church was born Aug. 17, 1933, in Wilkes County to Dock Eller Church and Nancy "Nannie" Johnson Church. He was an Air Force veteran of the Korean Conflict. Surviving are his mother of Las Vegas, Nev.; a brother, George Church of North Wilkesboro and two sisters, Delores Spencer of Las Vegas, Nev. and Chloe Sturdivant of North Wilkesboro. Memorial services will be conducted at 3 p.m. today, Sunday, Dec. 10, at Miller Funeral Service Chapel in North Wilkesboro, with the Rev. Hobert Key officiating. The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m. today at Miller Funeral Service prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Northside Baptist Church, c/o Jerry Alexander, 5724 Liberty Grove Road, North Wilkesboro, NC. 28659.

COX
Mrs. Nellie Maiden Terry Cox of 1076 CB Eller School Road passed away Dec. 9, 2000, at Hugh Chatham Memorial of Elkin. Mrs. Cox was born on Nov. 12, 1915, in Smyth County, Va., to Thomas Edward Terry and Nannie Virginia Terry. Mrs. Cox was a member of Shoaly Branch Baptist Church. She is survived by two daughters, Helen Mae Cox of the home and Faye and Roy Poteat of Elkin; two sons, James Ray and Jean Cox of Thurmond and J. Brady and Pearl Cox of Elkin; two sisters, Mrs. Elsie Carter of Elkin and Mrs. Mary Taylor, also of Elkin; 12 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband, Earl L. Cox, Oct. 7, 1973; a son, Thomas E. Cox, April 17, 1994; a sister and three brothers. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Cool Springs Baptist Church Dec. 11, 2000. Burial will follow at Shoaly Branch Baptist Church cemetery. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Johnson Funeral Home Chapel.

HASLETT
Mrs. Ouida Aley Hampton Haslett, 91, of Winston-Salem, died Thursday, Dec. 7, 2000, at Arbor Acres Retirement Home, after being seriously ill for the last two weeks. She was born Feb. 28, 1909, in Forsyth County to the late John E. and Arritta Tally Hampton. Mrs. Haslett was an active member of Ogburn Memorial Untied Methodist Church for most of her adult life, but was a member of Oak Grove Moravian Church for the last few years. She graduated from Mineral Springs High School and attended Salem College. Her husband, W. Lloyd Haslett, preceded her in death in 1987 as well as a son, Darden E. Haslett in 1996, and a baby brother, Noah E. Hampton. Surviving are a granddaughter, Katherine Glick and husband, Matthew, of South Windsor, Conn.; two grandsons, John Haslett and wife, Patti, of Falls Church, Va., and Jim Haslett and wife, Shelley, of Manchester, Conn; three great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Frances L. Holland, of Suffolk, Va.; a niece, a nephew and several cousins. A graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Monday, Dec. 11, 2000, in Oak Grove Moravian Church Graveyard with the Rev. David Fischler and the Rev. Douglas Suggs officiating. There will be no stated visitation. The family wishes to express appreciation to Arbor Acres and its staff and request that memorials be made to Arbor Acres, 1240 Arbor Rd., Winston-Salem, N.C. 27104. The Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel is in charge of funeral arrangements.

DIMMETTE
KERNERSVILLE -- Ms. Dorothy Burton Dimmette, 68, died Thursday, Dec. 7, 2000, at her daughter's home in Elkin. She was born Aug. 26, 1932, in Forsyth County to Leroy Burton Sr. and Gertrude Pegram Burton. Ms. Dimmette was a member of the First Assembly of God and was retired from General Motors. Surviving are her mother of Winston-Salem; a son, Philip Hamby, of Winston-Salem; a daughter, Sherri Lynn Coe, of Elkin; a sister, Phyllis Wiles, of Winston-Salem; four brothers, Leroy Burton Jr. of Lewisville, Alburn Burton of Walkertown, Wayne Burton of Pfafftown and Larry Burton of Advance; five grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel. Burial will follow in Westlawn Gardens of Memory. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

FARLEY
Mr. Robert Odell Farley, 57, of Winston-Salem died Saturday, Dec. 9, 2000, at Winston-Salem Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center. He was born March 1, 1943, to Robert Joines and Maggie Ruth Hudson Farley. Odell attended Forest Park Grammer School and was graduated from James A. Gray High School in 1962. He attended Heritage Hills Baptist Church. In 1960 he joined the staff of the Carolina Theatre and was transferred to the Winston Theatre in 1962 as supervisor. He entered the U.S. Army in March of 1965 and trained at Fort Gordon, Ga. and Fort Knox, Ky. He served in the Republic of South Vietnam and was separated from the Army at Redstone Arsenal, Ala., on March 23, 1967. One month later he joined R. J. Reynolds Tobacco Co. Odell was a life member of The Veterans of Foreign Wars of the U.S. Post 6367, Winston-Salem, and served the V.F.W. as State Historian, Captain of the Color Guard and Chairman of the North Carolina Cottage at the V.F.W. National Home in Eaton Rapids, Mich. He was a life member of the First Calvary Division Association at Fort Hood, Texas, and was a charter member of the Young Carolinians of First Union National Bank. He was a co-chairman to the Veterans Bicentenial Festival and Parade Committee and compiled a book A Past To Remember...A Future to Mold for the Bicentennial. He was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include his cousins, Louise Woolard and husband Ed, Eddie Farly and wife Sue, Shirley Brooks and husband the Rev. Garnish Brooks, all of Winston-Salem; Elizabeth Dowell and husband Fred of Jacksonville, N.C., and a number of other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Vogler and Sons Main Street Chapel by the Rev. Jennings O'Neil. Burial will follow in Oaklawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home and at other times at the home of Ed and Louise Woolard, 1945 Dacian Street. Memorials may be made to The American Cancer Society, 1900 South Hawthorne Road, Winston-Salem, NC 27103.

GIST
Mrs. Leovia Carter Gist, 81, formerly of 1208 East 4th St., Winston-Salem, passed away on Friday, Dec. 8, 2000, at Meadowbrook Terrace Nursing Home of Clemmons, N.C. after an extended illness. Mrs. Gist was born on May 8, 1919, in Anderson, S.C., the daughter of the late Jesse Carter and Nettie Martin Carter. Mrs. Gist was a homemaker and retired employee of R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co. She was a member of the Mount Olive Baptist Church, where she served as church secretary, a member of the Usher Board and the Helping Hands until her health prevented her from attending. She was preceded in death by her husband, James R. Gist; two daughters, Doris Gist and Carrie Gist, and a son, Harry Gist. She is survived by two sons, James E. Gist and wife, Prestina Williamson Gist, of Moreno Valley, Calif., and John W. Gist and wife, Vanessa Pharr Gist, of Winston-Salem, N.C.; a grandson, Eric W. Gist, of Winston-Salem; five sisters-in-law, Janie Carter of Cleveland, Ohio, Rosa Mae Gist, Annie Mae Gatson and Helen Hayes of Charlotte, N.C., and a brother-in-law, David Gist of McConnells, S.C., and other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held at 12:30 p.m Monday, Dec. 11, 2000, at Mount Olive Baptist Church with Pastor Charles E. Gray officiating. Interment will follow in the Evergreen cemetery. Family and friends visitation will be from 12 to 12:30 p.m. on Monday at the church (Russell).

GRAY
Helen Hinkle Gray, a resident of 106 Randolph Street, died Friday evening, Dec. 8, 2000, in the Piedmont Center in Thomasville. She was born May 14, 1907, in Lexington, N.C., a daughter of Will Grimes Hinkle and Etta Everhart Hinkle. She was educated through the Thomasville Schools, Greensboro College and Maryland College. Mrs. Gray taught first grade in Davidson County and Trinity, N.C. She ran a private kindergarten in the summer at the Old Methodist Hut on Randolph Street beginning in 1930. She was a former member of the Thomasville Woman's Club and its Arts Department, the Phi Beta Book Club, Captain Benjamin Merrill Chapter of D.A.R. in Lexington and the Dutch Club of Lexington. She was a life member of N.C. Art Society, Historic Preservation Foundation of North Carolina and Genealogical Society of Davidson County. Mrs. Gray was a member of Heidelberg United Church of Christ and was named Deacon Emeritus of the church. She was married to Julius H. Gray, who preceded her in death in 1974. Surviving are a sister, Frances H. Barnhardt (Mrs. M.C. Barhardt, Jr.), of Salisbury and several nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, Dec. 11, 2000, in Thomasville City cemetery with the Rev. Jamie Fonville officiating. Mrs. Gray will remain at the J.C. Green and Sons Funeral Home until the service hour. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Sunday. Mrs. Gray requested memorials be directed to Heidelberg United Church of Christ, 118 Salem Street, Thomasville, N.C. 27360.

HARMAN
KING -- Mr. James Franklin Harman, 71, of High Valley Road, died Saturday, Dec. 9, 2000, at WFU/Baptist Medical Center. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Slate Funeral Home in King with Dr. James Baldwin officiating. The family will receive friends this evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. A graveside service will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. in the Tom Lilly cemetery in Ghent, W.Va. Flowers will not accepted but memorials may be made to King Outreach Ministry, P.O. Box 1450, King, N.C. 27021.
