PULLIANS
Mrs. Ernestine "Tina" Pullians of 760 Patterson Ave., Apt. 22, departed this earthly life Dec. 7, 2000, at Wake Forest University-Baptist Medical Center to enter into eternal life with God. She was born Oct. 29, 1939, to the late Mack McCoy and Leola Bonner in Macon, Ga. She had resided in Forsyth County for more than 31 years. Mrs.Pullians had been with the Winston-Salem Forsyth County school system for 21 years. She was employed at Bolton Elementary School, where she served as a food specialist. Tina will be remembered as a woman who lived her faith. She was always friendly and caring. In the morning she got off the city bus singing songs of the faith with a beautiful voice. She gave of herself generously often slipping a quarter to a child for a dessert or giving support to someone in need. A parent who knew her well told me, "She gave me more than I could ever give her". Miss Tina's beautiful spirit is a valuable legacy for Bolton students. She was a dedicated and faithful member of John Wesley AME Zion Church, where she served on the usher board, senior choir, president of the stewardess board, No. 1 parent body missionary, and district usher board. She leaves to cherish her memory a godson, Keith M. Hoyle; a daughter-in-law, Janice A. Hoyle; three grandchildren, Antonio L. Wilson-Hoyle, Tiras Jacobs Hoyle and Keirsten Anderson Hoyle; a goddaughter, the Rev. Virginia Wofford; a brother, Charles Carswell; an aunt, Rosa Lee Durham; a godmother, Daisey Chambers; godchildren Candance J. Anderson, Kaleista McNeil and Daniel Wofford; first cousins Yvonne Watkins, France Ashley and Virginia Thompson; members of John Wesley AME Zion Church; and the faculty and staff of Bolton Elementary School, Dr. Mary E. Norman, principal, and Valeria Edwards, assistant principal. Funeral services will be conducted at 12:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 14, 2000, at John Wesley AME Zion Church, with the Rev. Gaskins officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen cemetery. The remains will be placed in the church at 11 a.m. to lie in state until the service hour. SAUNDERS
Mrs. Lorene Johnson Saunders, 73, of 4276 Cody Drive passed away Monday, Dec. 11, 2000, at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home following a period of illness. She was a member of the Second New Bethel Church, where she served faithfully on the nurse's board and the pastor's aide. She was a retired employee of the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County School System. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Ethel Wright and Doris Scott; and three brothers, Junius Johnson, Nathaniel Johnson and Richard Johnson. She leaves to celebrate her life and homegoing her ever-loving husband, Sylvester D. Saunders Sr.; five daughters, Aquanette Berry, Ola Mae Saunders, Sandra Jordan (James), Helen Saunders and Esterlene Saunders; a son, Sylvester Saunders Jr.; 11 grandchildren, one devoted granddaughter, Tisheka Saunders Williford (Dexter); 14 great-grandchildren; a sister, Bessie Armstrong of Washington, D.C.; a brother, Donald Johnson (Kay) of Winston-Salem; an aunt, Marie Johnson of Mount Airy; a sister-in-law, Edna Saunders; and a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be noon Thursday, Dec. 14, 2000, at Genesis World Outreach Center with Bishop Claude D. Thomas officiating. Interment will be in Crestview Memorial Park, Rural Hall. SHARPE
Mr. Clide Sharpe Jr., 68, of 1620 Pleasant St., passed away Monday, Dec. 11, 2000, at his residence following a period of illness. He was born April 15, 1932, in Forsyth County, the son of Carrie Cobb Sharpe and Clide Sharpe Sr. He was of the Baptist faith and was a retired employee of the city of Winston-Salem/Water and Sewer Department with 34 years of service. He was preceded in death by his wife, Georgia Springs Sharpe. He is survived by his dear mother, Carrie Cobb Sharpe of Winston-Salem; five daughters, Jocelyn Sharpe, Carolyn (Ernest Jr.) Smith, Tammy Smalls, Sharon Coleman (Michael) and Doreen (Charlie) Braddy, all of Winston-Salem; 10 grandchildren; a great-grandchild; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 14, 2000, at the Russell Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Essie McCullough officiating. Interment will be in the Evergreen cemetery. SMITH
HARMONY -- Mr. John Bill Smith, 73, of 605 East Memorial Highway died Tuesday at Iredell Memorial Hospital. Born in Iredell County Aug. 10, 1927, he was a son of the late James Parker Smith and Litty Mae Dove Smith. He served in the U.S. Army and was a retired truck driver for Roadway Express. On July 6, 1945, he married the former Lois Moore, who survives. Also surviving are two sons, John Michael Smith of the home and Tim A. Smith of Salisbury; three daughters, Mrs. Sharon Johnson of North Wilkesboro, Mrs. Elaine Hughes and Mrs. Joan Swicegood, both of Lexington. Also surviving are three grandchildren, Matt and Marsha Johnson of North Wilkesboro and Holli Hughes of Lexington; two brothers, Glenn Smith of Concord and Leroy Smith of Harmony and three sisters, Mrs. Bondelia Wooten of Harmony, Mrs. Jo McClamrock of Mocksville and Wilma Smith of Dobson. He was preceded in death by two brothers, J.W. Smith and William Smith. Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Thursday at Clarksbury United Methodist Church with the Rev. Donnie Durham officiating. The body will lie in state at the church for 30 minutes before the funeral hour and burial will follow in the church cemetery. Pallbearers will be Glenn Campbell, Jerry Campbell, Mark Johnson, Tommy Ladd, Carl Ladd, Jr. and James Ray Ladd. The family will assemble at the residence of the deceased and will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at Reavis Funeral Home of Harmony. STANDAART
Zora Josephine Benson Standaart of Winston-Salem died Dec. 12, 2000, at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. She was 59. A memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 21, at Memorial Funeral Chapel, 5980 Kinney Road, Winston-Salem. Josie was born Aug. 6, 1941, in San Diego, Calif., to Maude Frances Walker Benson and Harry Land Benson. She was married to Adrian Willem Standaart, a Dutch physicist. Josie and her husband lived for several years in the Netherlands and Switzerland before returning to the United States and settling in Winston-Salem. She was a graduate of Salem College with a B.A. in psychology and a B.A. with honors in studio art. Ms. Standaart was also an award winning artist and a cartoonist published in the Christian Century and Rotarian, among many others. She loved nature, Celtic music and the fine arts. Ms. Standaart was preceded in death by her parents and husband. She is survived by her twin brother, Brian Joseph Benson, and his wife, Heli Koppel Benson, and her elder brother, Frederick Land Benson, and his wife, Myra Greer Benson. She is also survived by her uncle, B.J. Benson, and his wife, Ollie Benson, and three nieces, Eleanor Blair Benson and her husband, Tim Blankenship, Amanda Benson and Lisa Benson and her husband, John Nunnally. In addition, she is survived by many other relatives and friends. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston-Salem, NC 27103, the American Cancer Society or to a charity of the donor's choice.

VOSS
KING -- Ronald Lewis Voss, 70, of Jefferson Church Road, Tobaccoville died Monday, Dec. 11, 2000, at Village Care of King after a lengthy illness. He was born Feb. 10, 1930, in Forsyth County to Reid and Deamie Garner Voss. Mr. Voss was a 1948 graduate of King High School and served with the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict. He was employed by R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co. for a number of years and had been the owner-operator of a restaurant in Walkertown. He had also attended Atlanta Christian College. Surviving are his wife of 47 years, Ruth Spainhour Voss of the home; daughter Lisa Raines of King; son Ronnie (Janis) Voss of Rural Hall; grandson Jonathan Raines of King; two sisters, Dorothy (John) Pratt of Pinnacle and Carolyn (Don) Styers of Winston-Salem; four brothers, Harold (Joan) Voss of Winston-Salem, Ralph (Elizabeth) Voss of Lexington, Joe (Elizabeth) Voss of Dobson and Calvin (Dorothy) Voss of King; mother-in-law Mary Evelyn Spainhour of Tobaccoville; an uncle, Frank (Ona Ruth) Garner of King; and a number of nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 14 at Jefferson Church of Christ. Jerry Simpkins, Steve Cook and Mr. Voss's son, Ronnie Voss, are the officiating ministers. Burial with military rites will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 this evening at the church. YOUNG
Ms. Julia Beatrice Young, formerly of 651 Mulberry St., Apt. A, was born Aug. 16, 1942, in Laurens, S.C., to Daisy Beatrice and the late Javan Alexander. She was a resident of Winston-Salem for most of her life, where she attended Anderson High School. Ms. Young was a member of Cornerstone Tabernacle Church of Greensboro. She departed this life Monday, Dec. 11, 2000, at the Sunbridge Rehabilitation Center in Siler City after a period of illness. Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 14, 2000, at Hooper Funeral Home, with Pastor W.L. Cousin officiating. Interment will be in Evergreen cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1 to 1:30 p.m. at the funeral home. She is survived by four daughters, Margie J. Young, Merian L. Young and Annette D. Young, all of Winston-Salem, and Shirley A. Young of Siler City; a son, Mitchell Young; her mother, Daisy Beatrice Alexander; five grandchildren; a great-grandchild; three sisters, Nancy (Lewis) Fleming, Eliza Ann (Lorenzo) Gardner and Daisy Alexander, all of Winston-Salem; a brother, John Young of Ora, S.C.; an uncle, Thomas Young of Laurens, S.C.; and a host of other relatives and friends. The family may be contacted and the cortege will assemble and leave from the home of a daughter, Annette Young, 911 Mock St. at 12:30 p.m. Thursday.

BURKHART
MOUNT AIRY -- Mr. Dennis Wesley Burkhart, 69, of 2382 McBride Road died Dec. 13. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Dec. 15 at Howell Funeral Chapel in Mount Airy.

CHUNN
MOCKSVILLE -- Mrs. Jettie Mozelle Oakley Chunn, 89, of U.S. Highway 601 S. died Dec. 11 at her home after a period of illness. She was a member of New Bethel Baptist Church, where her funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, with the Rev. Thomas White, the Rev. Rufus Wyatt and the Rev. Dennis Bishop officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service. She is survived by two sons, George F. (Doris) Chunn of Winston-Salem and Danny Andre' Chunn of the home; three daughters, Barbara Chunn (Raymond) Brown of Greensboro, Phyllis Chunn (Carl T.) Duncan of Statesville and Zettie Chunn Phillips of Charlotte; 11 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. Memorials may be made to New Bethel Baptist Church Building Fund, 585 Boxwood Church Road, Mocksville, NC 27028. Graham Funeral Directors of Mocksville are in charge of arrangements for Mrs. Chunn.

COCKERHAM
Mrs. Mattie Pauline Cockerham, from a family of 14 children, was born March 21, 1918, in Madison to the late George and Brosia Martin. She was a member of First Baptist Church for over 40 years, where she was a devoted member of the choir and Women's Progressive Club. Mrs. Cockerham was married to the late Thurmond Cockerham, and four children were born from this union. She will be remembered for her strength and dedication to her family and her willingness to help others as well as for her beautiful flowers, vegetable garden and her arts and crafts. Monday, Dec. 11, 2000, following an extended illness, the sweet spirit of our mother, grandmother and great-grandmother went to join our blessed Savior. Funeral services will be held 3 p.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church, with the Rev. Wendell A Johnson officiating. Interment will follow in Oaklawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 2:30 to 3 p.m. at the church. To cherish her memory she leaves two sons, Vernon Cockerham of Detroit and Curtis Cockerham of Winston-Salem; two daughters, Connie Morton of Columbus, Ohio and Verleria (David) Butler of Cleveland; a sister, Grace Redd of Cleveland; a brother, Warren Martin of North Wilkesboro; a brother-in-law, Ernest Cockerham of Winston-Salem; seven grandchildren; two great-grandsons; a great-granddaughter; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. ADVANCE -- Mr. Clinton Coolidge Cornatzer, 76, of Baltimore Road died Monday at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem. The funeral service will be 1 p.m. Friday at Bixby Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Carol Anne Jackson officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Eaton Funeral Home in Mocksville. In lieu of flowers, they request memorials be made to the American Diabetes. Association, 1820 E. Seventh St., Charlotte, NC 28204 or to Bixby Presbyterian Church, c/o Brenda Robertson, 688 Howardtown Road, Mocksville, NC 27028. Born in 1924 to the late William Pinkson and Augusta Vogler Cornatzer, he served as first sergeant in the U.S. Army during World War II. Later, he was a foreman with Hanes Dye and Finishing Co. in Winston-Salem and enjoyed farming. Mr. Cornatzer was a member ofBixby Presbyterian Church, was a member of the Advance V.F.W. Memorial Post and a member of the Davie County Cattleman's Association. He was preceded in death by his wife, "Dorothy" Carolyn Burchette Cornatzer and by a sister, Frankie Cornatzer Curtis of Denton. He is survived by two sons, Ken and Fran Cornatzer of Wallace and Robert and Deborah Cornatzer of Advance; a brother, Eugene and Margaret Cornatzer of Huntington, Ala.; a sister, Ann Truitt of Sacramento, Calif.; and two grandchildren, Neal and Lisa Cornatzer of Advance and Carmen Cornatzer of Raleigh.

CRUTCHFIELD
GREENSBORO -- Mildred Sellars Crutchfield, 82, of 4512 Lawndale Drive died Sunday, Dec. 10, 2000, at Wesley Long Community Hospital. Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 16, 2000, at the Fairview Moravian Church on Silas Creek Parkway in Winston-Salem. The family will receive friends after the service at the church. She was a native of Wilmington and had resided in Long Beach and Winston-Salem before coming to Greensboro. Mrs. Crutchfield was one of the founders of the Piedmont Craftsman Inc. and the Oak Island Senior Citizens Craft Shop. She had been recognized by Governor Hunt for her contribution to senior citizens. Mrs. Crutchfield had been an active worker at the First Moravian Church of Greensboro of which she was a member. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lindsay Gray Crutchfield. She is survived by two daughters and their husbands, Carol and James Pfaff of Greensboro and Rebecca and Gregory DePriest of Nashville, Tenn.; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Oak Island Senior Citizens Craft Shop. Forbis & Dick Funeral Service, North Elm Street, is in charge of arrangements.

CUMMINGS
EAST BEND -- The Rev. Annie Elizabeth Pugh Cummings, 92, widow of John Cummings, P.O. Box 67 passed away Monday, Dec. 11, 2000, at Scenic View Health and Rehab in King. Mrs. Cummings was born in Randolph County April 23, 1908, to Laburn Franklin and Maggie May Pugh. She was a private duty nurse, a homecare giver and a minister of Holiness faith. She is survived by a daughter, Erelene Hooker of King; a son and daughter-in-law, Jimmie Ray Caudle and wife Hazel of Yadkinville; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Funeral services for Mrs. Cummings will be conducted 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 15, 2000, at Cox-Needham Funeral Home, by the Rev. Pete Scott and the Rev. Robert Ray Caudle. Burial will follow at Union Tabernacle cemetery in Walkertown. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 Thursday, Dec. 14, 2000, at the funeral home. The family would like to thank the dietary department and staff of Scenic View Health and Rehab for their loving care of Mrs. Cummings. The Cummings family is being served by Cox-Needham Funeral Home in Pilot Mountain.

DILLARD
Mrs. Martha P. Dillard, 83, of Heritage Woods passed away Tuesday, Dec. 12 at Baptist Hospital. She joins her recently departed husband of 55 years in eternity with God. Martha was born Sept. 7, 1917, in Fitzpatrick, Ala. She was a graduate of Huntington College and the University of Michigan. Mrs. Dillard is survived by a son, William B. Dillard Jr. and wife Madaline; two daughters, Anne Dillard and husband Clark Glenn and Helen D. Kondracki and husband John; seven grandchildren whom she loved dearly; and a brother-in-law, Carl M. Dillard and wife Barbara. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 15, 2000, at St. Michael and All Angels' cemetery in Columbia, S.C. Memorials may be made to Boy's Farm Inc., P.O. Box 713, Newberry, S.C. 29108.

EAST
Mr. Harvey Harold East Sr., 90, formerly of Pleasant View Drive died Monday evening, Dec. 11, 2000, at Silas Creek Manor. He was born in Forsyth County on July 4, 1910, to Burley Samuel East and Sarah VanHoy East. Mr. East was retired from Farmers Dairy. For many years he was an active member of New Hope Baptist Church. Preceding him in death was his wife, Ruth Lancaster East on Dec. 10, 1990. Surviving are his daughter, Monteze E. Lentz and husband Allen; two sons, Harvey H. "Bunky" East Jr. and John W. East and his wife Gay all of Winston-Salem; a grandson, David W. East and his wife Cindy of Pfafftown; a great-grandson, Joseph W. East of Pfafftown; and a sister, Grace Parks of Boca Raton, Fla. A graveside service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Forsyth Memorial Park conducted by Dr. Joe Long. Memorials may be made to the charity of the donor's choice. Vogler and Sons Reynolda Road Chapel is serving the family.

EATON
Mrs. Elnora Foote Eaton, 100, died at Meadowbrook Terrace of Davie Dec. 11 after a period of illness. She was a member of Cedar Creek Missionary Baptist Church, where the funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, with the Rev. Michael Linville officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends 45 minutes before the service. She is survived by two sons, Henry Eaton of Albemarle and Odell Eaton of Mocksville; four daughters, Willie M. Wiseman of Rahway, N.J., Bessie Eaton of Advance, Queen McKnight of Winston-Salem and Betty Jean Eaton of Mocksville; 21 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; 25 great-great-grandchildren; and a great-great-great-grandchild. HARRIS
Mrs. Gwendolyn Crump Harris, 61, of 1815 Francis St. passed away Sunday, Dec. 10, 2000, at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home after a period of illness. She was a native of Winston-Salem born June 13, 1939, the daughter of the late Elizabeth Crump and James King and resided in the Washington, D.C., area for over 35 years. She was of the Methodist faith and was a retired employee of the National Institute of Health in Bethesda, Md. She is survived by her devoted husband, Gilbert A. Harris of the home; three sons, Harold (Lenee') M. Crump of Winston-Salem, Rollie (Jane) G. Harris of Alexandria, Va., and Robert Lee Harris of Detroit; four grandchildren, Charles "O.J." Fair, Lanisha Crump, Harold Crump Jr. and Rollie Harris Jr.; aunts Betty C. (Douglas) McLean, Nannie M. Crump, Delores C. Humes, Cozetta C. Walker and Ann K. Torrence all of Winston-Salem, Louise K. Wilson and Doris K. Randall of Washington, D.C.; two sisters-in-law, Margaret Parrish and Pauline Thomas of Dayton, Ohio; and other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held 2:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 15, 2000, at the Russell Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Dr. Juan P. Gray officiating. Interment will be in the Evergreen cemetery. HAYES
Mr. Harold William Hayes Sr., 56, of 162 Rockaway Drive passed away Monday, Dec. 11, 2000, at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. He was a native of Lexington and was a faithful member of Gates of Zion Glorious Church of God, where he served as chairman of the deacon board, a member of the adult choir, the pastor's aide auxiliary, the van ministry and former Sunday-school superintendent. He was a cement contractor and brick mason by trade. He is survived by his wife, Fannie M. Hayes of the home; five children, Kenneth Ray (Jeannette) Hayes of Winston-Salem, William E. (Rosanna) Hayes of Trenton, N.J., David E. Hayes and Harold William (Kim) Hayes Jr. of the home and Patricia (Kevin) Terry of Lexington; three godchildren, Christina Robinson and Thelia Miller of Winston-Salem and Da-Shard McGiff of Thomasville; eight grandchildren; his mother, Lula L. Hayes of Midway; five brothers, Paul O. (Mary) Hayes, R. Louis (Alease) Hayes, Johnny Lee Hayes and Arthur Hayes all of Midway and Russell Cleo (Roberta) Hayes Jr. of Lexington; four sisters, Louise Leonard, Pearline Hayes and Wanda Hayes, all of Midway, and Elaine Hayes of Winston-Salem; and many other relatives and friends.
