HEDGECOCK
HIGH POINT -- Mrs. Lillian "Maw" Brooks Hedgecock, 87, of 224 Barney Road died Wednesday, Dec. 13, 2000, at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home in Winston-Salem. Lillian was born in Surry County on Oct. 1, 1913, the daughter of Arthur and Flossie Nunn Brooks. She was formerly employed with Anvil Brand and retired from Archdale Manufacturing. She was a lifelong member of its women's society and the adult Sunday-school class. On Dec. 23, 1929, she married Ivey Franklin (Nick) Hedgecock, who preceded her in death. Also preceding her in death were three brothers, Edgar, Weymouth and Douglas Brooks, and a son-in-law, Jimmy Norman. Surviving are two daughters, Wilma Norman of High Point and Nancy Jane Russell and her husband Marty of High Point; four grandchildren, Frankie McNally and her husband, Terry of Winston-Salem, Kimberly Hobson and her husband, Barry of High Point and Franklin Howard Russell of High Point; three great-grandchildren, Amanda Brown and her husband, Doug of Thomasville and Christopher and Brittany Kiestler of Winston-Salem; a great-great-grandchild, Nicholas Brown of Thomasville; a sister, Elizabeth Brooks Boggs of High Point; and several special nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Bunker Hill United Methodist Church by the Rev. Dana McKim. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the church and all other times at the home of Nancy and Marty Russell, 224 Barney Road, or Wilma Norman, 214 Barney Road. The family requests memorials be made to Bunker Hill United Methodist Church Building Fund, 1510 Bunker Hill-Sandy Ridge Road, Kernersville, NC 27284. Pallbearers will be Roger Boggs, Darrell Kidd, Keith Hedgecock, Steve Idol, Danny Coley and Terry "Butch" Glasscoe. Harold C. Davis Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

HUNTER
Miss Dawn Suzanne Hunter, 47, died Tuesday, Dec. 12, 2000, at Durham Regional Hospital. She was born March 26, 1953, to Charles Latimer and Wanda O. Hunter of Forsyth County. She had always been loved and cared for at her home. Surviving are her parents; a brother, Gerald L. Hunter, of Winston-Salem; a sister, Cheryl Hunter Moody, of Chapel Hill; two nephews, Adrian Wolfington, of Manassas, Va., and Chuck Hunter, of Raleigh; a niece, Shannon Hunter, of Durham; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. There will be a graveside service at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 16, 2000, at Forsyth Memorial Park with the Rev. Robert K. "Buzz" Scott officiating. JOHNSON
BURLINGTON -- Mr. Graham Cecil Johnson, 81, of 209 Trail One died Thursday, Dec. 14, 2000, after eight years of illness and one month of being critically ill at Rehabilitation and Health Care Center of Alamance, Graham. He was born in Wake County to the late Robert Hupton Johnson and the late Ella Frances Prince Johnson. He was a retired employee of the Communication Workers of America and a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of Grove Park Baptist Church, where he taught in the pre school department for 13 years, was a former deacon, usher and member of the deacon nominating committee and assistant to the church treasurer. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 16, 2000, at Grove Park Baptist Church, with Dr. Roy P. Taylor, Seniors Pastor and Pastor Emeritus of Grove Park Baptist Church and assisted by Dr. Eugene Hunsinger, Pastor of Grove Park Baptist Church officiating. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Donnie Shoffner Johnson of the home; a daughter, Mrs. Linda Johnson Newsom of Winston-Salem; a son, Daniel Cecil Johnson of Raleigh; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Ethel Johnson and Irma Johnson Strauss; and four brothers, Melzar Johnson, Hurley Johnson, Robert Johnson and Howard Johnson. Mr. Johnson will remain at Lowe Funeral Home until taken to the church to lie in state 30 minutes before the service. JOHNSON
Miss Thelma Johnson, 69, of 845 Brent St., Winston-Salem, was born in Forsyth County on April 15, 1931, to the late Sam B. and Georgiann Johnson. She departed this life Dec. 12, 2000, at N.C. Baptist Hospital. She attended the Forsyth public schools. She was in declining health for several years. She was preceded in death by a brother, Mr. Woodrow Johnson. She leaves to mourn her loss four sisters, Mrs. Corine Brown, Mrs. Hattie Brown, Miss Doris Johnson and Mrs. Wilhlmenia Stroud, all of Winston-Salem; three brothers, Mr. James Johnson, the Rev. Leroy and wife Juanita Johnson and Mr. Albert Johnson, all of Winston-Salem; three aunts, Mrs. Lillie Crosby of Newtonville, N.J., Mrs. Clara Truesdale of Detroit and Aunt Becky of Enfield; several nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, friends; and the caregiver with whom she lived. The family may be contacted at the homes of the brothers, the Rev. and Mrs. Leroy Johnson, 2532 Tree Top Lane, Winston-Salem, or at the home of Mr. Albert Johnson, 1905 Short St., Winston-Salem. MARTIN
DOBSON -- Mr. Ray Gilvin Martin, 75, of 2317 Zephyr Road passed away Tuesday, Dec. 12, 2000, at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem. Mr. Martin was born in Surry County April 29, 1925, son of the late Thomas Hamlin and Bessie Venable Martin. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served in the Korean War, and was a retired farmer. Survivors include two sisters, Lora Martin, of the home and Joyce Steeby, of Dobson; two nieces, Susan Doane, of Galax, Va., and Jane McCoy, of Battle Creek, Mich.; and two nephews, Phillip White, of Raleigh and Steve Sprinkle, of Texas. The funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 16, 2000, at Salem Fork Christian Church cemetery conducted by the Rev. Jim Maudlin. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at Moody Funeral Home of Dobson, where his body will remain until carried to the church to lie in state 30 minutes before the service. OGBURN
Mr. H. Kapp Ogburn Jr., 72, of Winston-Salem passed away Thursday, Dec. 14, 2000, at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. He was born Jan. 6, 1928, in Winston-Salem, the son of Mary Jenkins Miller and H. Kapp Ogburn Sr. Mr. Ogburn was educated in the city schools, graduating from R.J. Reynolds High School in 1945. He graduated from N.C. State University in 1949. He was one of two members of the first graduating class of the Realtors Institute at Chapel Hill. He joined his family's firm, Home Real Estate Loan and Insurance Co., in 1949 and later was president of Kapp Ogburn and Sons Realty Co. Mr. Ogburn was active in the Winston-Salem Board of Realtors for 50 years, serving as president in 1956. He was instrumental in establishing the Multiple Listing Service in Winston-Salem, serving as its president in 1954. He was inducted into the Thomas W. Lambe Jr. Hall of Fame in 1999. He was a member of Forsyth Country Club. He was a lifelong member of Augsburg Lutheran Church, serving as secretary/treasurer, vice president and president of the church council. Surviving are his wife, the former Margaret "Boots" Jones; two children, Mary Margaret "Mo" Ogburn of Winston-Salem and H. Kapp Ogburn III and wife, Lynne, of Chapel Hill; and a brother, Sam C. Ogburn Sr. and wife, Mary Ceile, of Winston-Salem. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Augsburg Lutheran Church with Dr. Ronald A. Rinn and the Rev. Ed Troutman officiating. Burial will follow in Forsyth Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday at the church prior to the service. ORR
Eloise Bassett Orr, 80, who lived at Heritage Woods, died Thursday, Dec. 14, 2000. Mrs. Orr was born July 3, 1920, in Atlanta to the late Lyman Earle Bassett and Almira Berry Parker of Cedartown, Ga. She was a graduate of Cedartown High School, a teacher in Acworth and Marietta, Ga., a member of the Women's Club, an active member at St. Paul's and St. James Episcopal churches and a homemaker. She is survived in her immediate family by a son, Dr. Lynn H. Orr Jr., and wife, Becki, of Greenville and their two children, Alex and Ashley; her daughter, Mrs. Eloise O. Bourgeois, and husband, Wayne, of Metarie, La., and their children, Barbara, Ridge and Catherine; her son, Mr. William L. Orr, and wife, Martha, of Winston-Salem and their three sons, Michael, David and John; her son, Mr. Wayne K. Orr, and wife, Martha, of Kenner, La.; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. The family will receive friends at the home of Bill and Martha Orr in Winston-Salem from 3 to 5 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 16, 2000. There will be a graveside memorial service at the Marietta National cemetery in Marietta, Ga., at 2 p.m. Monday. SEARCY
Mrs. Louise Tate Searcy, 79, of 844 Goldfloss St. passed away Monday, Dec. 11, 2000, at the Winston-Salem Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center after a period of illness. She was a native of Lancaster, S.C. She was born March 22, 1921, the daughter of the late Bessie McDowell and Andrew Lee Tate. She is survived by a daughter, Alma S. Bush of the home; two sons, Harvey L. Searcy (Margaret) of Burlington, and Thomas L. Searcy (Audrey) of Winston-Salem; eight grandchildren, Cetaro Searcy, Brittney Rutherford, Brandy Daye, Margo Daye, Yakhia Hill, Ayanna Hill, Jasmine Lamkin and Cory McDougal; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held at 12 noon Saturday, Dec. 16, 2000, at the Russell Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Calvester Griggs officiating. Interment will be in the family plot of Piedmont Memorial Gardens. The family visitation will be from 11:30 a.m. to 12 noon Saturday at the funeral home. SHORE
LEWISVILLE -- Mr. Jerry Wayne Shore, 57, died Thursday, Dec. 14, 2000, at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center. He was born June 28, 1943, in Forsyth County to William Nathan and Pearl Sink Shore. Mr. Shore was a lifelong member of Friedberg Moravian Church. He worked with R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co. for 10 years and then the Lorillard Co. in Greensboro as an analytical flavor chemist for 10 years. He was past president of Alleghany Christmas Tree Association and a member of the Frasier Fir N.C. Tree Association Committee. Surviving are his wife, Loretta Sides Shore, of the home; a daughter, Katherine Leigh Shore, of the home; a son, Michael Wayne Shore, of Virginia; his father, William "Bill" Shore, of Winston-Salem; a sister, Martha S. Thomas, and husband, Adrian, of Winston-Salem; and his mother and father-in-law, Homer and Bonnie Sides of Sparta. Funeral services will be at 3:30 p.m. Saturday at Friedberg Moravian Church with the Rev. G. Thomas Shelton, Dr. Michael Haynes and the Rev. Norwood Green officiating. Mr. Shore will lie in state at the church from 3 to 3:30 p.m. Saturday prior to the service. Burial will follow in the church graveyard. ASHLEY
Mr. Ralph Hugh Ashley Jr., formerly of Winston-Salem, died Nov. 20, 2000, at his home in Elloree, S.C. He was born July 16, 1943, in Forsyth County to Ralph Hugh and Ophelia Wrights Sr. He was preceded in death by his wife, Libby Ashley. Surviving are his mother, Ophelia W. Ashley; a sister, Jane (Stanley) Allen; two nieces, Melissa (Keith) Blakley and Denise Allen; a great-niece, Brittany Allen; a great-nephew, Austin Blakley, all of Tobaccoville; and a special aunt, Ann Hartman of Advance. A memorial service for the family will be scheduled at a later date.

BALL
ADVANCE -- Mrs. Joyce Tipton Ball, 53, formerly of Advance, died Thursday, Dec. 14, 2000, at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem after being in declining health. A graveside service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Blaise Baptist Church cemetery in Mocksville, conducted by the Rev. Glenn Sellers. The family received friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at Eaton Funeral Home in Mocksville. She was born Dec. 28, 1946, in Richmond, Va., a daughter of the late David J. and Hilda Chandler Tipton. She had been employed with Davie County schools as a teacher's aide and was a member of Blaise Baptist Church. Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Brad and Janet Ball of Mocksville; a daughter and son-in-law, Lesa and Michael Dowell of Advance; a sister, Carol Hendrix of Richmond; and four grandchildren. BARKER
CLEMMONS -- Ms. Betty Colleen Dull Giles Barker, 67, died Wednesday, Dec. 13, 2000, at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. She was born March 30, 1933, in Forsyth County. She was retired from R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co. with 37 years of service. Ms. Barker was the daughter of the late Elizabeth Dull Frye and stepdaughter of the late George R. "Bus" Frye. Surviving are two daughters, Shireen Giles Jeffus of Tobaccoville and Debbie Giles Porter and husband Ken of Yadkinville; a son, Joby Barker and wife Kim of Clemmons; six grandchildren, Bobby Hilterbrand, Lisa Jeffus Moore and husband Arnold, Jessica Jeffus, Dana Jeffus, "Little" Joby Barker and Joshua Barker. Funeral services will be held 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Vogler & Sons Clemmons Chapel by the Rev. Curtis Gibson. Burial will be in Harmony Grove United Methodist Church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 Saturday evening at the funeral home.

BEACH
LENOIR -- Mr. Edward Davis Beach, 76, of 119 Claron Place S.E. died Thursday, Dec. 14, 2000, at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem surrounded by his family. Mr. Beach was born Nov. 10, 1924, in Caldwell County and was the son of the late Grayson Boone and Sarah Davis Beach. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps for four years during World War II with active duty in both the Atlantic and Pacific zones and was released from duty with the rank of staff sergeant. He was commissioned and recalled to active duty during the Korean conflict for 1 1/2 years and at the time of his discharge from active service held the rank of first lieutenant. A certified public accountant, Mr. Beach attended Lenoir-Rhyne College in Hickory. He was a life member of both the North Carolina Association of Certified Public Accountants and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. From 1947 through 1970, he was a partner in the firm of Grisette and Beach, CPAs, one of the larger privately owned accounting firms in the Carolinas. In 1971, he joined Broyhill Furniture Industries Inc. and served from then until his retirement in 1986 as vice president of finance and vice chairman of the board of directors. At the time of his death, Mr. Beach was serving as president of BMC Fund Inc., a regulated investment company, and secretary of Broyhill Family Foundation Inc. Mr. Beach was a retired director of a number of funds sponsored by Prudential Securities Inc. Mr. Beach had also served as the chairman of the board of trustees of Mars Hill College, Mars Hill and was a director emeritus of the local advisory board of First Union National Bank, Lenoir. In 1997, Fund Directions named Mr. Beach the Trustee of the Year for mutual fund directors and trustees. In April 2000, he was one of three inducted into the Hall of Fame of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. Mr. Beach was a devoted member of First Baptist Church of Lenoir, where he taught Sunday school and was formerly a deacon and member of the choir. Mr. Beach is survived by his wife of 56 years, Jean Frye Beach and their three daughters, Mrs. Bruce (Tamra) Vanderbloemen and Mrs. Lana Smith of Lenoir and Mrs. Wayne (Jill) McNeely of Winston-Salem. He is also survived by his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, William and Melissa Vanderbloemen and their children, Matthew, Mary and Sarah Catherine of Montgomery, Ala.; Brian Vanderbloemen of Winston-Salem; Thomas and Sara Vanderbloemen of Durham; Grayson Smith and Laney Smith of Raleigh; and Rebecca and Elizabeth McNeely of Winston-Salem. Also surviving is a sister, Ruth Beach Hart of Milledgeville, Ga. He was preceded in death by a sister, Elizabeth Beach Hartley. A memorial service to celebrate the life of Mr. Beach will be conducted 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 17, 2000, at First Baptist Church, Lenoir with the Rev. William Vanderbloemen and Dr. David Smith officiating. A family graveside service will be held prior to the memorial service. The family will receive friends at the residence at 119 Claron Place, S.E., Lenoir beginning at 7 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 16. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, 304 Main St. N.W., Lenoir, NC 28645 or Caldwell County Hospice, 902 Kirkwood St., N.W., Lenoir, NC 28645. EVERHART
LEXINGTON -- Mr. Charles Wesley Everhart, 50, of Ward Curry Road, died Thursday, Dec. 14 at 6:52 p.m. at Forsyth Medical Center after an illness of five months. A memorial service will be at 2 p.m Sunday, Dec. 17, at Hendrick's Grove United Church of Christ, where he was a member. The Rev. John Roberts will officiate. Mr. Everhart was born in Davidson County July 14, 1950, to Johnny Virgil Everhart Sr. and Thelma Fritts Everhart. He was employed with Fletcher Machine Co. His parents preceded him in death. Surviving are his wife, Faye Younts Everhart, of the home; two daughters, Holly Leatherman and Charlotte Cope, of Lexington; two grandchildren, Gracie Noelle Leatherman and Reece Henry Cope; brothers Johnny Virgil Everhart Jr., Jerry Wayne Everhart and James Everhart, all of Lexington; and sisters, Carol Newsome, Doris Lohr and Janie Musgrave, all of Lexington. The family will receive friends following the service in Hedrick's Grove UCC Fellowship Hall and other times at the home at 464 Ward Curry Road. FOLTZ
Mr. Herman Eugene Foltz, 75, of Winston-Salem died Thursday, Dec. 14, 2000, at Forsyth Medical Center. He was born July 7, 1925, in Forsyth County to Raymond A. and Nora Lineback Foltz. Mr. Foltz was a lifetime resident of Forsyth County. His family lineage dated back seven generations to the first settlers of the area, Adam Spach and Peter Volz. A graduate of Davidson College, he was active in his church, Friedberg Moravian, having served as teacher and superintendent for the church's Sunday school as well as chairman of the board of Christian education and chairman of the board of trustees. His church duties also included having served on the building committee for the church parsonage, the educational building and fellowship hall and acting as chairman of the building committee for the church sanctuary. He had also served as secretary of the board of Homeland Missions for the Southern Province of the Moravian church. For 38 years he worked as corporate secretary of Foltz Concrete Pipe Co. and while in charge of sales, traveled many of the southern states. He is the author of "Adam and Maria Spach-Their Family," which includes the memoirs and genealogy of Adam Spach as compil ed by Henry W. Foltz in his "Descendants of Adam Spach" as published in 1924. He was preceded in death by a brother, Elwood A. Foltz, and a sister, Georgia Brewer. Surviving are his wife, Doris Beauchamp Foltz of the home; two daughters, Lynne Foltz Bostick and husband Joseph L. of Pamplico, S.C. and Susan Leigh Foltz of Charlotte; two grandchildren, Leigh Bostick Hinshaw and husband Lee of Cary and Joseph LeGette Bostick III of Charleston, S.C.; and a brother, Luther S. Foltz of Winston-Salem. Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Sunday at Friedberg Moravian Church with the Rev. G. Thomas Shelton and the Rev. Norwood Green officiating. Burial will follow in the church graveyard. The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Saturday at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel. FULFORD
ADVANCE -- Mrs. Frances Ogle Fulford, 78, passed away Friday, Dec. 15, 2000, at Forsyth Medical Center. She was born Jan. 12, 1922, to Sadie Hall Ogle and Fred Ogle. Mrs. Fulford loved people and was a member of the Central Church of Christ in Miami, Fla. She was married to Raymond Joseph Fulford on Aug. 12, 1948, at the Plymouth Congregational Church in Miami. Mrs. Fulford graduated from Central High School in Nashville, Tenn. and then attended the University of Miami. She retired in 1976 as an office manager for the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission. Surviving are her husband, Mr. Raymond J. Fulford of the home; a son, Michael Raymond Fulford and wife Cindi; grandchildren Jason Fulford and Becker Downie and husband Norman; a sister, Evelyn Borman of Miami; two brothers, Fred and Bill Ogle of Miami; nieces Debbie Machado and Barbara Waite; and nephew Gary Ogle and wife Sandy.
