HOLMES
KERNERSVILLE -- Clatie Laura Lewis Pinnix Holmes, 89, of 6380 Inez Lane, Kernersville, and formerly Baux Mt. Road, Winston-Salem, where she lived with her niece, Cathy Boyd Cook, died Friday, Dec. 15, 2000, at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. "Aunt Clatie," as she was known to her family and friends, was born Feb. 22, 1911, in Patrick County, Va., a daughter of Andrew Jackson and Elizabeth Dixon Lewis. She was of the Baptist faith and spent most of her life caring for others and was known as a wonderful cook and homemaker. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers and sisters, and her husband, James Hubert Holmes. Surviving are her son and daughter-in-law, Melvin Ray Pinnix and wife Jeanette: granddaughter, Diane Bull and husband Terry; grandsons, Gary "Butch" Pinnix and wife Sandra, Jonny Pinnix, Melvin Pinnix, Robin Pinnix and wife Cindy, Timothy Pinix and wife Carolyn; 12 great-grandchildren; a step-great-grandson; nine great-great-grandchildren; two step-great-great-grandsons; many nieces and nephews, and a special grand-nephew, Jon Moser. Funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Good Shepherd Moravian Church, 1474 Kerner Road, Kernersville, with burial to follow in the Woodland cemetery in Winston-Salem. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the Hayworth Miller Cain Funeral Home in Kernersville and at other times at the home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston-Salem, N.C. 27103.

HOFFMAN
Mrs. Fairy Mae Johnson Hoffman passed away on Friday, Dec. 15, 2000, at Baptist Hospital. She was born Feb. 13, 1926, in Cleveland County, Oklahoma to Tom Charles Johnson and Lille Mae Usry. She was married Dec. 9, 1944 in Cleveland County, Okla. to Sherwin Edward "Eddie" Hoffman. The couple recently moved from Midwest City, Okla. to Winston-Salem to be near their daughter Cindy H. Casey. Surviving are her husband, S.E. Hoffman of the home; son, Steve Edward Hoffman of Edmond, Okla.; daughter, Cindy H. Casey and husband R. Thomas Casey III of Clemmons; grandchildren, Erin Rhiannon Hoffman of Edmond, Okla., and Toby Wayne Robertson of Winston-Salem, N.C. Funeral services will be held at Vogler's Funeral Home in Clemmons at 2 p.m. Monday by Minister Charles Belch burial will follow in Forsyth Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 1:30 to 2 p.m. Monday at Voglers.

JOHNSON
Mrs. Shelba Jean Doby Johnson, 61, a resident of 6974 Winners Circle, died Dec. 16, 2000, at High Point Regional Hospital. She was born April 14, 1939, in Davidson County, a daughter of Farris Cleveland and Thelma Arie Miller Doby. A resident of the Trinity vicinity all of her life, Mrs. Johnson was owner of Shelba D. Johnson Trucking Inc. and was of the Methodist faith. In 1956 she married Alexander L. (Red) Johnson, who survives, of the residence. Also surviving are two children, Cleve Alexander Johnson and wife, Belinda of High Point and Jasen Derrick Johnson of the residence; three sisters, Dorothy Brown of Winston-Salem, Nancy Hengel of Trinity and Sandra Rush of Kernersville and three grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Rodney Gene Johnson. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the chapel of Cumby Family Funeral Service in Archdale, with the Rev. Wayne Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in the Floral Garden Park cemetery. Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday evening at the funeral home and at other times at the residence. JOHNSTON
KING -- Mrs. Dorothy Gilman Johnston, 74, known as "Dottie" to all that knew and loved her, died at the Village Care Nursing Center in King on Friday evening, Dec. 15, 2000, following a period of declining health. A native of Ligonier, Pa., she was born June 5, 1926, to the late Merrill and Mary Smith Gilman. Mrs. Johnston had an extremely deep concern for and love of animals and loved working in flowers as long as her health allowed. She is survived by her loving husband of 56 years, Charles M. "Chuck" Johnston; two sisters, Elsie Moltrup of Latrobe, Pa. and Sally Moyher of Ligonier, Pa. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday, Dec. 18, 2000, in the Parklawn Mausoleum Chapel in Winston-Salem, the Rev. Jim Saul will officiate. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. this evening at Hayworth-Miller Funeral Home, Rural Hall Chapel. Any memorials should be made to the Humane Society in your county of residence.

REEVES
MILLERS CREEK -- Mrs. Mabel Ann Baker Reeves, 84, the wife of James Vaughn Reeves Sr. of Friendly Grove Church Road, Millers Creek, died Friday, December 15, 2000, at her home. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Pleasant Home Baptist Church in Millers Creek with the Rev. Nicholas Cheek and the Rev. Tim Wilcox officiating. The body will be placed in the church at 1:30 p.m. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Mrs. Reeves was born in Wilkes County, December 25, 1915, to J. Bynum and Myrtle Parsons Baker. She was a member of Pleasant Home Baptist Church. In addition to her husband, Mrs. Reeves is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Billy Joe (Ruth) Greer of Wilkesboro, and Gladys R. McGlamery of Millers Creek; a son, James Vaughn Reeves Jr. of Millers Creek; a sister, Lucille Craven of Purlear; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Ambrose Reeves Scholarship Fund, c/o Ruth Greer, 885 Winkler Mill Road, Wilkesboro, N.C. 28697. Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home in North Wilkesboro will be in charge of arrangements.

SMALL
WALNUT COVE -- Mrs. Eleanor Ayers Small, 82, of Walnut Cove, N.C., formerly of Augusta, Maine, died Monday, December 11, 2000, at the K.B. Reynolds Hospice Home in Winston-Salem, N.C. She was born in Augusta on June 25, 1918, the daughter of Leigh and Julia Ayers. She attended Augusta schools and was employed by and retired from the State of Maine. She also worked for 10 years for the City of Saint Petersburg, Fla., while residing in Pinellas Park. Mrs. Small was a past matron of the Order of Eastern Star and a member of St. Marks Episcopal Church. She was the widow of Leon F. Small, Sr. They had three children, Gloria A. Mitchell, deceased, Leon Jr., living in Walnut Cove, and Raymond Small of Augusta . She is also survived by a brother, Richard Ayers of Augusta , and an aunt, Marguerite Freeman of South Harpswell, Maine. Survivors include several nieces, nephews, cousins, nine grandchildren and several great grandchildren. The family requests no flowers. Gifts may be made to the Gideons International, Box 104, Mayodan, N.C. 27027, K.B. Reynolds Hospice Center, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston-Salem, N.C. 27103, or the Cancer Society in her name. Plans will be announced for a Memorial Service in Augusta in the spring.

STANDAART
Zora Josephine Benson Standaart of Winston-Salem died Dec. 12, 2000, at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. She was 59. A memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 21, at Memorial Funeral Chapel, 5980 Kinney Road, Winston-Salem. Josie was born Aug. 6, 1941, in San Diego, Calif., to Maude Frances Walker Benson and Harry Land Benson. She was married to Adrian Willem Standaart, a Dutch physicist. Josie and her husband lived for several years in the Netherlands and Switzerland before returning to the United States and settling in Winston-Salem. She was a graduate of Salem College with a B.A. in psychology and a B.A. with honors in studio art. Ms. Standaart was also an award winning artist and a cartoonist published in the Christian Century and Rotarian, among many others. She loved nature, Celtic music and the fine arts. Ms. Standaart was preceded in death by her parents and husband. She is survived by her twin brother, Brian Joseph Benson, and his wife, Heli Koppel Benson, and her elder brother, Frederick Land Benson, and his wife, Myra Greer Benson. She is also survived by her uncle, B.J. Benson, and his wife, Ollie Benson, and three nieces, Eleanor Blair Benson and her husband, Tim Blankenship, Amanda Benson and Lisa Benson and her husband, John Nunnally. In addition, she is survived by many other relatives and friends. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston-Salem, NC 27103, the American Cancer Society or to a charity of the donor's choice.

WILLIAMS
YADKINVILLE -- Mr. Paul Leslie Williams, Sr., 83, of Yadkinville passed away Saturday, Dec. 16, 2000, at Yadkin Nursing Care Center. Born in Yadkin County on March 16, 1917, He was the son of the late William M. and Lily Howell Williams. He retired from Thomasville Furniture in Winston-Salem on December 24, 1949. He married the former Lillian Brown who survives. Also surviving is a son, Paul Williams, Jr. of Yadkinville; a brother, John W. Williams of Jonesville; two grandsons, Jamie and Robbie Williams both of Yadkinville. He was preceded in death by two sisters and four brothers. Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Monday at Reavis Funeral Home Yadkinville Chapel with the Rev. W.B. Brawley and the Rev. James Williams officiating. Burial will follow in Sugartown Baptist Church cemetery. The family will assemble at the residence of deceased and will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Sunday evening at Reavis Funeral Home in Yadkinville. Reavis Funeral Home Yadkinville Chapel is serving the Williams Family.

WOOSLEY
Mrs. Ola Kennedy Woosley, 82, of Winston-Salem passed away Thursday, Dec. 14, 2000. She was born to the late John and Maude Kennedy March 20, 1918, in Wilkes County. She married Ralph Woosley on Dec. 21, 1940. She was retired from Duplan Corp. with over 20 years of service. She was a member of Friedland Moravian Church, a homemaker and enjoyed gardening with all types of flowers. Her parents; her second mother, Eudemma McGrady; two sisters, Ruby Lemons and Fay Rhodes; and a brother, Earl Kennedy, preceded her in death. Her husband, Ralph Woosley of the home; a son, Beverly Dale Woosley of Winston-Salem; a brother, Fred Kennedy of Hays; and her best friend, Geneva Mosteller of Winston-Salem survive her. Also surviving her are numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 17, 2000, at the Friedland Moravian Church with the Rev. Steve Craver officiating. Interment will follow in the church graveyard. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 Saturday evening at Vogler & Son's Main Street Funeral Home. Please make memorials to the Kate B. BROWN
Mr. James Henry Brown, 57, of 3217 Old Greensboro Road, affectionately known as "BO ", passed away Monday, October 11, 1999 at his residence unexpectedly. He was born July 9, 1941 in Winston-Salem, the son of Fred J. Brown and the late Clara W. Brown. He was educated in the public schools of Forsyth County. He was a retired employee of R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company, Tobaccoville, N.C. and a former bus driver for TBM Luxury Coachline. "BO " was a member of the Macedonia TVPH Church of God INC and a member of the Trustee Board. He was preceded in death by his mother, Clara W. Brown; and a brother, Fred Brown, Jr. He leaves to mourn his passing, his loving children, Teresa Brown, James S. (Jackie) Brown, of Brooklyn, N.Y., David L. (Johnnie) Brown and Charles Valentine of Orlando, Fla., Patrick B. (Teresa) Friday, Eric D. (Rose) Brown, Kanika L. Brown and Cellistine Brown, of Society Hill, S.C.; 18 grandchildren, Tekeyla, Teandola, Eric, Jr., Justin, Patrick, Tekenvila, Rashun, David, II, Dominique, Charles, Princess, Shakaun, Craig, Aquarias, Ka'deysha, Kelle, Angelica, and Lester; his father, Fred J. Brown, of Winston-Salem; five devoted sisters, Willie Mae Stowe, Thelma Russell, Magareen (Earnest) Wilkins, Sally (Robert) Bethea, and Tanya (Kenny) Dawkins, all of Winston-Salem; ten devoted brothers, Jake (Maxine) Brown, Benjamin (Barbara) Brown, Mike Brown, Ricky (Janice) Brown, Clevester Brown, Aldeen (Geraldine) Harvey, Monroe (Carolyn) Watkins, Rev. Michael (Cindy) Isler, Raymond O'Neal, and Mike Brown of Havre De Grace, Md.; two aunts, two uncles, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, October 19, 1999 at 2:00 p.m. from the Macedonia TVPH Church of God, INC, with Bishop S.D. Johnson officiating. CARTER
KERNERSVILLE -- Mrs. Willie Mae Hendrix Carter, 92, of Bradford Village East, died Sunday, October 17, 1999. Mrs. Carter was born January 1, 1907 in Summerville, Ga. to George Washington and Dovey Alexander Hendrix. She was a homemaker and of the Baptist faith. Mrs. Carter was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Albany Carter, Sr.; a daughter, Betty Swiger; and a son, Billy Wright. Surviving are two sons, Jimmy Wright, Sr. and his wife, Rachel, of Kernersville and Jack Carter, Jr. and his wife, Debbie, of Scottsdale, Ariz.; seven grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; and four great great grandchildren. The funeral will be held Wednesday, October 20, 1999 in the chapel of Family Funeral Care at 11:00 a.m. Rev. Sybil Parks will officiate. The family will receive friends from 7:00-9:00 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

CASS
GREENSBORO -- Mrs. Mary Evelyn Stewart Cass, 94, of Friends Home at Guilford, died Saturday, October 16, 1999 at her residence. Mrs. Cass' funeral will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, October 19 at First Moravian Church. Entombment will follow in Westminster Gardens. Mary Evelyn Stewart Cass was born in Rockingham County on February 17, 1905 to the late Dr. Joseph Stewart and Mrs. Rhoda Cummings Stewart. She had been a resident of Guilford County for the past 51 years. Mrs. Cass was the co-founder and owner of Cass Jewelers and a member of First Moravian Church, the Estella Bobbitt Circle, and McDowell Sunday School Class. She was a member of the Greensboro Woman's Club, the Myrtle Rebekah Lodge, and Guilford Chapter 141 of the Order of the Eastern Star. Mrs. Cass was also a member of the Gate City Shrine #2 Order of White Shrine of Jerusalem. Survivors include two sons, John H. Cass, Jr. and his wife, Gay, and Stewart Cass and his wife, Margaret, all of Greensboro; a sister, Lillie Stewart Phibbs; and a brother, David Stewart, both of Bethany, N.C.; four grandchildren, Cathy Cass Kowalski, of Melbourne, Fla., Geoffrey T. Cass, of Summerfield, Amy Lynne Cass, of Charlotte, and Stephanie Cass Williams, of Greensboro; and four great grandchildren, Laura Kowalski, John Kowalski, Jordan Cass, and Jennifer Williams. Mrs. Cass was preceded in death by her husband, John Herman Cass, Sr., in 1990. The family will receive friends from 7:00-9:00 p.m. tonight at Forbis and Dick North Elm Street. GEE
MADISON -- Dr. Harold Wayne Gee, 80, of 504 Woodland Drive, died Sunday, October 17, 1999 at his home. Graveside services will be held 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, October 20 at Woodland cemetery. Dr. Gee was a native of Danville, Va. He was an optometrist, retiring in 1993, after 43 years of service to his community. He was a member of the Madison Rotary Club, and was honored as a Paul Harris Fellow, a member of the Madison Lions Club, Investment Club, and the Mens Luncheon Club. He was also a WWII Army veteran and a Purple Heart recipient. He was preceded in death by his wife, Anne H. Gee; and a brother, C. Elwood Gee. He is survived by his sister, Hilda G. Myers; and a niece, Lynn B. Myers, both of Raleigh; and a nephew, Carlton E. Gee, Jr., of the Middle East. The family will receive friends from 7:00-9:00 p.m. Tuesday at Ray Funeral Home, and other times, at his home. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Rockingham County, P.O. Box 281, Wentworth, N.C. 27375.

HAUSER
Mr. Wilbur W. Hauser, 85, of Lewisville, died Saturday, October 16, 1999 at his home. He was born November 1, 1913 in Forsyth County to Wiley Frank and Ora Poindexter Hauser. Mr. Hauser was a member of Concord United Methodist Church, and was retired from R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company, after 41 years of service. He was preceded in death by a brother, Shelby M. Hauser; and a sister, Adeline Everhart. Surviving are his wife, Doris Stimson Hauser, of the home; two sons, Edwin Wilbur Hauser, and wife, Julia, of Raleigh and Michael F. Hauser, and wife, Susan, of Thomasville; seven grandchildren; and a sister, Dorothy Crouch, of Winston-Salem. A graveside service will be held 11:00 a.m., Monday, October 18 at Concord United Methodist Church, with Rev. Thomas W. Albert officiating. Memorials may be made to Concord United Methodist Church, 8955 Concord Church Road, Lewisville, N.C. 27023.

HOLLAN
Mr. George Anthony Hollan, age 61, of 4011 Hilda Street, Winston-Salem, son of Cornelius Hollan and Madie Neal, and husband of the late Virginia Lee Hollan, departed this life on Thursday, October 14, 1999 at the home of his granddaughter, Renee Robeson, following a period of illness. Mr. Hollan was a lifelong resident of Winston-Salem, and a retired employee of R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company, after more than 30 years of service. He was also a U.S. Army veteran. He loved fish ing and will be greatly missed. He leaves to cherish his memory, a son, Ricky D. Hollan; one daughter, Ms. Von Diane Mobley; a granddaughter, Renee Mobley Robeson; and five great grandchildren, Ronald, Jr., Nike, Michael, Michelle, and Angel Robeson, all of Winston-Salem; one brother, Dwight A. Hollan; and a host of other relatives and friends. Homegoing service will be conducted Monday, October 18 at 12:00 p.m. at Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church, with Dr. Serenus Churn officiating, with interment to follow in Gardens of Memory. The family will receive friends from 11:30-12:00 p.m. at the church. Arrangements entrusted to, and services will be conducted by your loving friend, Gilmore.

JOHNSON
SANTA MONICA, Calif. -- Mr. Bailey James Johnson, Jr., 72, of Santa Monica, Calif., died Saturday, October 16, 1999 at the Sticht Center at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center. Born February 28, 1927 to the late Vivian Baxter and Bailey Johnson, Sr., he was a well-known gourmet chef in Beverly Hills, Calif. and Hawaii. Prior to his illness, he was working on a body of poetry and fiction, and his autobiography. He is survived by his sister, Dr. Maya Angelou; and daughter, Ms. Rosa Johnson, both of Winston-Salem; two sons, Ross and Nana Johnson, of California; one nephew, Guy Bailey Johnson, of California; one great nephew, Colin Ashanti Johnson, of Atlanta; six grandchildren, Kwame, Olivia, Matema, Monique, Rosa Suzette, and Damion Emile Johnson; and seven great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Shelby Fulcher. A memorial service will be held Wednesday, October 20, 1999 at 4:00 p.m. at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, with Dr. Serenus T. Churn officiating. LAZCANO
Mr. Jose Gonzales Lazcano, 64, of Winston-Salem, died Friday, October 15, 1999 at Forsyth Medical Center. He was born December 3, 1934 in Italy to the late Valentio Edward and Maria Berhasconi Lazcano. Mr. Lazcano was employed with Superior Manufacturing, and was a member of Christ Temple Apostolic Church. He leaves behind a loving church family. Surviving are his wife, Irene Faizone Lazcano, of the home; two sons, Valentino Edward Lazcano, of Austin, Texas and Jack Lazcano, of the home; three daughters, Maria Elizabeth Lazcano, of San Antonio, Texas, and Irene and Vanessa Lazcano, both of the home; an adopted daughter, Sarah Widener, of Winston-Salem; five grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, October 19 at Christ Temple Apostolic Church by Rev. Bob Williams and Rev. Mike Lane. Burial will follow in Parklawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 7:00-9:00 p.m. Monday at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel.

LILLIE
Mr. Harold M. Lillie, of Winston-Salem, died Saturday, October 16, 1999 at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. He is survived by his wife, Ruth Lillie, of the home; a daughter, Rose Marie Banks, of Washington, D.C.; a granddaughter, Linda Banks of Springfield, Va.; a sister, Frances Albee, of Denver, Colo.; and three brothers, Justus Lillie and Warren Lillie, both of Denver, Colo., and Marvin Lillie of Wahoo, Neb. A memorial service will be held 3:00 p.m., Tuesday, October 19 at Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church. Memorials may be made to Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church, 1210 Bolton St., Winston-Salem, N.C. 27103 and to Hospice of Winston-Salem/Forsyth Co., 1100-C S.
