MONEY
HAMPTONVILLE -- Mr. Silas Money, 86, of 3432 Hwy 21 North, died Saturday, October 16, 1999 as a result of an automobile accident. He was born July 14, 1913 to James and Ida Shore Money. He was a retired carpenter and a member of Longtown Pentecostal Holiness Church. He was preceded in death by four brothers, Russell, John D., Paul, and Joe Money; and one sister, Katie Macemore. Surviving are his wife, of 56 years, Ruth Smith Money; four daughters, Margie (Allen) Martin, Linda (Frank) Groce, and Phyllis Money, all of Yadkinville, and Kim (Tommy) Masten of Hamptonville; one sister, Maude Money Shore, of Hamptonville; five grandchildren; and three great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, October 20 at Gentry Family Chapel, conducted by Rev. Eddie Mishoe. Burial will follow in Longtown cemetery. The body will lie in state from 10:30-11:00 a.m. The family will receive friends from 7:00-9:00 p.m. Tuesday at Gentry Family Funeral Service, 601 Hwy North of Yadkinville.

MURPHY
THOMASVILLE -- Mrs. Chappell James Murphy, 88, a resident of Thomasville, died Sunday morning, October 17, 1999 in the Beverly Health Care Center. She was born March 18, 1911 in Forsyth County, a daughter of Rufus James and Barbara Kiger James. She was a former employee of Regan Hosiery Mill, Inc., and was a retired employee with Thomasville Furniture Industries. Mrs. Murphy was a member of Bethany United Church of Christ and the Ladies Bible Class. She was married to Varney Murphy, who preceded her in death, in 1956. Surviving are daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and John Hill, of Lexington; son and daughter-in-law, Therrell and Peggy Grimes, of Thomasville; a sister, Mrs. Virginia Hedrick, of Thomasville; a brother, Charles James, of Asheboro; grandchildren, James Grimes, of Thomasville, Ed Hill, of Concord, Steve Hill, of Summerfield, and Brent Hill, of Ellicott City, Md.; and two great grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by sisters, Della Fowler, Susie Yates, Pauline Haffly, and Juanita Carter; and brothers, Alan James and Walter James. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, October 19 at 2:00 p.m. in Bethany United Church of Christ, with Rev. Robert Thurston and Rev. Harold Holste officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Mrs. Murphy will remain at J.C. Green & Sons Funeral Home until taken to the church thirty minutes prior to the service. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Monday from 7:00-9:00 p.m., and other times, at the home of the daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and John Hill, 124 Ridgeway Lane, Midway Community, Lexington. The family requests memorials be directed to Bethany United Church of Christ, General Fund, 1066 Bethany Church Road, Winston-Salem, N.C. 27107. Since April, 1999, Mrs. Murphy had been a resi dent of the Beverly Health Care Center. Her family wishes to extend their deep appreciation to the staff for their care and love.

NEWNAM
MADISON -- Lizzie Sides Newnam, 89, formerly of 871 Eden Church Road, died Sunday, October 17, 1999 at Stokes Reynolds Hospital. A graveside service will be held 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, October 19 at Ellisboro Baptist Church cemetery. She was born April 4, 1910 in Forsyth County to the late Martin A. and Lizzie Hand Sides. Mrs. Newnam was a member of Ellisboro Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, George William "Bill" Newnam on March 18, 1960; and also by her son-in-law, H. Lewis Morton. Mrs. Newnam is survived by her daughter, Marie N. Morton, of Madison; and her son and daughter-in-law, William "Billy" and Gail Newnam, of Madison. The family will receive friends from 7:00-9:00 p.m., Monday, October 18 at Colonial Funeral Home, and other times, at the residence of her daughter, 3000 US Hwy 311, Madison, N.C. 27025.

REECE
HAMPTONVILLE -- Mr. William Columbus Reece, 77, of Windsor Road, died Sunday, October 17, 1999 at his home. Born April 13, 1922, son of the late Annie Reece Wagoner, he was a retired U.S. Army Sergeant. He was of the Baptist faith, a life member of the Disabled American Veterans. He was also a member of Phoenix Masonic Lodge #8 A.F. & A.M., and the Shriner and York Rite Bodies. He was preceded in death by a stepson, John Everidge. He is survived by his wife, Retha Everidge Reece, of the home; four children, William Glenn (Patsy Ann) Reece of Autryville, N.C., Johnny Mack (Marie) Reece, of Fayetteville, Linda Gay (Richard) Bathhurst, of Pensacola, Fla., and Larry Ray (Debbie) Reece, of Eastover, N.C.; his half sister, Gay Woodie, of Linville Falls, N.C.; 10 grandchildren; six great grandchildren; four stepchildren, Albert Everidge, of Cana, Va., and Ovid Everidge, Elaine Ireland, and Judy Mauldin, all of Hamptonville; 13 step grandchildren; and 19 step great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, October 19 at Flat Rock Baptist Church, with burial in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7:00-9:00 p.m. Monday at Gentry Family Funeral Service on Little Mountain Road in Jonesville. ROBINSON
Mrs. Lula Evans Robinson, 83, of Sunrise Towers, Winston-Salem, died Thursday, October 14, 1999 following an extended illness. She was born February 25, 1916 to James and Rosa Evans. She attended Winston-Salem city schools, was an employee of R.J. Reynolds for 23 years, and a member of New Bethel Baptist Church. She is survived by two daughters, Deborah Ford, and her husband, Donnie, of Winston-Salem and Brenda Barris, and her husband, Royce, of Charlotte; two sons, Nathan Evans, and James Evans, and his wife, Gloria, of Winston-Salem; 13 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; and a host of nieces; nephews; cousins; and friends. Funeral services will be held 1:30 p.m., Monday, October 18 at New Bethel Baptist Church by Dr. Jerry Drayton, with burial in Evergreen cemetery. Visitation will be held from 1:00-1:30 p.m., prior to the service.

SCOTT
EAST BEND -- Mr. J.D. Scott, 63, of 2205 Lace Knoll Road, died Sunday, October 17, 1999 at his home. He was born February 15, 1936 in Yadkin County to Herman B. and Minnie Leamon Scott. Mr. Scott was a member of Union Cross Friends Meeting and was retired from R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company. He was preceded in death by his mother and father; a sister, Sara Stokes; and a daughter-in-law, Wendy Scott. Surviving are two sons, Jackie (Diane) Scott and Doug (Gail) Scott, both of East Bend; one sister, Edith Shore, of Goldsboro; three brothers, Buford Scott, of Yadkinville, and Wade Scott and Roger Scott, both of East Bend; his ex-wife, Bertha Scott Billings, of East Bend; a good friend, Lorine Reece, of Hamptonville; and four grandchildren, Michael Scott, Kristy Scott, Dalton Scott, and Abby Scott. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, October 19 at 2:00 p.m. at Union Cross Friends Meeting by Rev. Jerry Gibbons, Rev. Jake Penley, and Rev. Johnny Shore. The body will be placed in the church at 1:30 p.m. to lie in state. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7:00-9:00 Monday evening at Huff Funeral Home in East Bend. STACK
Mr. George Thomas Stack, Jr., 71, of Winston-Salem, died Saturday, October 16, 1999 in Forsyth Medical Center. Born June 19, 1928 to the late Mr. and Mrs. George Thomas and Mary Lee Hudson Stack, Sr., he was a member of Fairview Moravian Church. He was special deputy of the Forsyth Sherriffs Department. Following his retirement from Piedmont Airlines, Mr. Stack became a regular at Hanes Mall, known as the "Mayor of Hanes Mall." Mr. Stack was preceded in death by his wife, Phyllis Plemmons Stack; sister, Betty Pace; and grandmother, Daisy Hudson. Surviving are his son, Thomas F. "Chip" Stack, of Winston-Salem; three brothers, William Stack, and beloved friend, Wanda Honaker, Larry Stack and wife, Drema, and Kenneth Stack, all of Winston-Salem; and a sister, Linda Waston, and husband, Gary, of Winston-Salem. A graveside service will be held 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, October 19 at Westlawn Gardens of Memory, with Rev. Neil Routh officiating. The family will receive friends Monday, October 18 from 7:00-9:00 p.m. at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel.

THETFORD
Mrs. Viola Solange Thetford, 73, of Winston-Salem, died at her home Thursday, October 14, 1999. She was the executive director of Group Homes of Forsyth, Inc. from 1979 until her retirement in 1991. "Vi" was a strong advocate for the mentally challenged and/or ill, and made great contributions to the quality of the lives of people with disabilities. After her retirement, she continued to actively support people with disabilities through her involvement with the National Alliance for the Mentally Ill, serving as president at one point. She was treasurer for the Board of Directors of her condominium association, as well as head of the Bay Representatives, and a newsletter contributor. She was also a member of her local bridge club. "Vi" was a loving, caring, and supportive mother to her two sons, Mark Hansen, of Gansevoort, N.Y. and David Migneault, of Winston-Salem, and a devoted grand mother to her grandson, Lyle Hansen, also of Gansevoort, N.Y. In addition, she leaves behind her sister, Alma Rands, of Portland Ore.; her aunt, Peggy Saunders, of Deerfield Beach, Fla; her cousin, Norma Fraser, of Montreal, Canada; and countless friends and admirers. A memorial service will be held at Hayworth-Miller Funeral Home, Winston-Salem at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 19 by Rev. David Allred. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Group Homes of Forsyth or the National Alliance for the Mentally Ill.

TUTTLE
KING -- Mrs. Geneva Jones Tuttle, 86, of King, died Sunday morning, October 17, 1999 at Forsyth Medical Center after an extended illness. Mrs. Tuttle was born January 27, 1913 in Stokes County to Henry Clay and Bertha Spainhour Jones. She was a member of First Baptist Church in King. Mrs. Tuttle was preceded in death by her husband, Grady R. Tuttle, in 1983. Surviving are a daughter, Hope Hauser, and husband, Jimmy, of King; two grandchildren, Justin Hauser, of King and MiKal Hauser, of Mebane; one great granddaughter, Skyler Grogan, of Mebane; two sisters, Mrs. Frank (Hope) Rains and Mrs. Weeta Gay Alexander, both of King; and four nieces, Mrs. Kay Simmons, of King, Dr. Pamela Gill, of Charlotte, Mrs. Jean Umstead, of Beaufort, and Mrs. Hennie Rains, of Nags Head. Graveside services will be conducted today at 2 p.m. in King Memorial Park, with Rev. Jack Borders and Rev. Paul Riggs officiating. ALDRICH
Mrs. Margaret "Marge" E. Aldrich, 72, of Winston-Salem died at her home Sunday, Dec. 17, 2000. She was born Jan. 6, 1928, in Edwards, N.Y. , to Harry and Anna Hart Wolfe. Mrs. Aldrich was preceded in death by her husband, Sidney Aldrich in 1989. Surviving are a brother and sister-in-law, Harry and Carolyn Wolfe of Winston-Salem; a sister and brother-in-law, Harriett and Ted Clark of Chicago Ridge, Ill.; a stepdaughter, Lila Vecere of Nescongt, Long Island, N.Y.; a special stepgrandson, Peter Vecere of North Babylon, N.Y.; and several nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel is serving Mrs. Aldrich's family.

ALLARD
Mr. Aloysius Louis "Dutch" Allard, 68, of Candlelight Drive died Dec. 16, 2000, at Forsyth Medical Center. He was born Nov. 12, 1932, in Voorhout, Netherlands, to the late Hendrik and Cornelia Hollee Allard. Mr. Allard was a member of St. Leo's Catholic Church and a member of the Knights of Columbus. He was employed by Winston-Salem State University in the receiving department. He was formerly employed by Gravely Tractor in Clemmons. He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Gerlinde E. Allard, of the home; a son, Jeffrey, of Charlotte; three brothers, Henk, Aad and Gerard, and their spouses, all of the Netherlands; and two sisters, Gemma Allard and Erna VanKesteren, both of the Netherlands. A funeral mass will at 2 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 21, 2000, at St. Leo's Catholic Church with Father Herbert Burke, Father Paul Gary and Father Thomas Stott officiating. Burial will follow at Parklawn Memorial Gardens. A rosary will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 20, at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel and the family will receive friends following the service until 9 p.m. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to St. Leo's Catholic Church, 335 Springdale Ave., Winston-Salem, NC 27104.

CROWE
MOCKSVILLE -- The Rev. Coy Isaiah Crowe, 96, of Howard Street, formerly of Roseland Street, Greensboro, died Sunday, Dec. 17, 2000, at Autumn Care of Mocksville. The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 20, at Danielsville Evangelical Methodist Church in Danielsville, Ga., with the Rev. Tim Peek, the Rev. Max Allman and the Rev. Billy Carey officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will greet friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Pruitte Funeral Home in Royston, Ga. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the charity of one's choice. A memorial service will be held later at Community E.M.C. in Thomasville. Born Oct. 8, 1904, in Madison County, Ga., to the late John Patton and Tishie Graham Crowe, Rev. Crowe was a retired pastor with the Evangelical Methodist Church. His pastorates included Danielsville, Ga., Glen Alpine, Old Richmond E.M.C., Portland, Ind., Keysville, Va., and High Point. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Sadie Lou Evans Crowe; seven children; and a grandson. He is survived by his wife, Margaret Auton Crowe, of Greensboro; two sons, Mark Crowe of Royston, Ga., and Phil and Brenda Crowe of Mocksville; a sister, Iva James, of Concord; 15 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

DOUGHTERY
LAURENS, S.C. -- The Rev. Thomas E. "Ted" Doughtery Sr., 85, died in Laurens Dec. 16, 2000. Rev. Doughtery was born in North, S.C., March 28, 1915, and was married for 61 years to Virginia Mae Clay, formerly of Winston-Salem. Rev. Doughtery was an alumnus of Furman University and he received his divinity degree from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Ky. He was a loving pastor and visionary leader of congregations serving churches in Kentucky, Georgia and South Carolina for over 50 years. Ted Doughtery Sr. began his ministry in Winston-Salem in 1938 with the Pilot Mountain Baptist Association. It was during this time that he met and married Virginia Mae Clay. He is survived by his wife; his son, Dr. Ted Doughtery Jr., of Winston-Salem and his wife, Becky; his daughter, Joy Turner, of Laurens and her husband, Mike; a granddaughter, Elisa Doughtery Clark, of Charlotte, and her husband, Gray; three grandsons, Ted Doughtery III of Richmond, Va., and Michael and Matthew Turner of Birmingham, Ala.; a great-granddaughter, Cathryn Virginia Clark, of Charlotte; and a sister, Miriam Doughtery Stokes, of Lynchburg, S.C. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 19, 2000, at the Easterby Chapel of First Baptist Church in Laurens conducted by Dr. Ted Doughtery Jr. and Dr. Bev T. Kennedy Jr. Memorials may be sent to the Doughtery Library Fund, Oakhurst Baptist Church, 222 E. Lake Drive, Decatur, GA 30030. Kennedy Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

GOODMAN
STATESVILLE -- Mrs. Rachel Thompson Goodman, 62, of 3547 Taylorsville Highway, died Monday at Iredell Memorial Hospital. Born in Iredell County Nov. 2, 1938, she was a daughter of the late Nick Walter Thompson and Mrs. Carrie Nance Thompson Miller of Statesville who survives. She was a retired textile worker and a member of Eufola Baptist Church. She cared for her mother and was loved by many and will be greatly missed leaving her family here and going to be with her family in heaven. Survivors include her husband, Johnny Goodman of Statesville; three sons, Rickey Walter Fox of Cleveland, Jack Lamar Whitaker and his fiance, Tina Story, of Albemarle and Bryant Keith Whitaker and his wife, Lisa, of Mocksville; two daughters, Joy Fox Barnette and her husband, Mike, of Cleveland and Renee' Whitaker Bailey and her husband, Joey, of Fork. Also surviving are two brothers, Thomas Nick Thompson of Blythewood, S.C., and Jim Thompson and his wife, Brenda, of Stony Point; and two sisters, Mrs. Mary Seitenfaden and Mrs. Kathy Faust and her husband, Richard, all of Statesville. Additional survivors include 14 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a stepfather, Mr. Cecil Miller of Aiken, S.C., and many loving nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Rachel Leona Fox, her first husband, Mr. Draper Leon Fox, and a brother, Sanford Wade Thompson. Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Wednesday at Eufola Baptist Church, with the Rev. Otis Johnson Jr. officiating. The body will lie in state at the church for 30 minutes before the funeral hour, and burial will follow in the Concord Presbyterian Church cemetery. Pallbearers will be Randall, Scott, Tommy and Shaun Thompson, Mark Faust and Jeff Macimore. The family will assemble at the residence of her mother, Mrs. Carrie Miller, at 3547 Taylorsville Highway and will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Bunch-Johnson Funeral Home. NORTH WILKESBORO -- Mrs. Margaret Mathis Gray, 80, of Speedway Road died Sunday, Dec. 17, 2000, at Britthaven Nursing Home. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Antioch Baptist Church with the Rev. Jerry Reavis and the Rev. Larry Lefler officiating. The body will be placed in the church at 1:30. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Mrs. Gray was born in Wilkes County, Nov. 7, 1920, to R.G. Mathis Sr. and Bertha Glass Mathis. She was a member of Antioch Baptist Church. Mrs. Gray is survived by four daughters, Linda Mathis of Roaring River, Ann Cobb of Charlotte, Jerri Rhodes of Huntersville and Janice Cheek of North Wilkesboro; a son, Roger Mathis Sr. of Laurel Springs; two sisters, Annie Johnson of Hamptonville and America Himes of Hampton, Va.; and four brothers, Fredrick Mathis of Wilkesboro, R.G. Mathis Jr., Don Mathis and Ted Mathis, all of North Wilkesboro. The family will receive at Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home in North Wilkesboro from 6 to 8 Tuesday night. HALE
GREENSBORO -- Freddie Joe Hale, 68, died Sunday, Dec. 17, 2000, at Moses Cone Hospital. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 20, 2000, at Hanes-Lineberry Sedgefield Chapel. Interment will be in Guilford Memorial Park. Mr. Hale was born Jan. 26, 1932, in Jacksboro, Texas, to the late Joe Franklin and Laura Hale. He was retired from the U.S. Marine Corps, serving in both the Korean and Vietnam wars. He taught ROTC at Grimsley High School and was retired from Guilford County. Mr. Hale is survived by his wife of 40 years, Catherine Hale; sons Richard and Stephen Hale; daughters Cynthia Hale, Dina Anderson and Kelly Hale; sister Beulah Wooten; brother William Hale; seven granddaughters; and a great-granddaughter. The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 19, 2000, and from 10 a.m. to noon Wednesday, Dec. 20, 2000, at the funeral home. HEDRICK
Mrs. Alice Dixon Hedrick, 85, of 2706 Cherokee Lane died Sunday, Dec. 17, 2000, at her home. Mrs. Hedrick was born in Davie County Oct. 9, 1915, to William Leonard and Mary Frances Foster Dixon. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 20, 2000, at Vogler and Sons Reynolda Road Chapel by the Rev. Kathie C. Sherrill. Interment will follow at Loves United Methodist Church cemetery. Mrs. Hedrick lived most of her life in Winston-Salem. She was a member of Burkhead United Methodist Church. Mrs. Hedrick was retired from Hanes Hosiery after 42 years of service. She was preceded in death by her first husband, William Henry Vanhoy, and her second husband, John G. Hedrick. Survivors include a sister, Nannie Davis; a brother, William Howard Dixon; and a number of nieces and nephews. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Inc., 1100-C S. HICKS
PINE HALL -- Myrtle Eva Hicks, 88, of 1050 Pine Hall Methodist Church Loop Road died Monday, Dec. 18, 2000, at Wesley Long Hospital in Greensboro. Her funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 20, 2000, at the Ray Funeral Home Chapel in Madison. Burial will be in the Gardens of Memory cemetery in Walkertown. Mrs. Hicks was a lifelong resident of Stokes County, a member of the Morning Star Baptist Church, a retired seamstress with Blue Bell Inc. and a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, Paul Abraham Hicks and parents, David and Cora Hicks. She is survived by her daughters, Ruth Lawson and husband John, Edna Sands and Brenda Sizemore and husband Mickey all of Pine Hall, Nina Smith of Walnut Cove and Shirley Tucker of Madison; a son, Howard Hicks of Pine Hall; 13 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 19, 2000, at Ray Funeral Home in Madison and all other times at her residence.
