ARCADIA -- Rachel Cope Hull, 70, died Dec. 22, 2000, at her residence. Memorial services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Piedmont Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Arthur Holland officiating. It was the wishes of Ms. Hull for her body to be donated to medical science. Ms. Hull was born July 29, 1930, in Davidson County to Olin Ivory Cope and Grace Byerly Cope. She was a lifelong resident of the Davidson and Forsyth County area, was a retired employee of Western Electric and was of the Methodist faith. Surviving are three sons, Edward Hull Jr., Larry Hull and Steve Hull of Arcadia; six daughters, Jackie Sotriffer of Arcadia, Linda Stansberry of Advance, Rachel Lee Strupe of Arcadia, Teresa Ann Lindsey of Winston-Salem, Cathy Hull of Kernersville and Pat Abbott of Arcadia; seven sisters, Sadie Miller of Lexington, Helen White of Greensboro, Judy Stanley, Bernice Hill and Mary Frank of Lexington, Betty Daubemmyers of Lexington and Essie Duggin of Lexington; a brother, Bobby Cope of Lexington; 25 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren. The family will see friends following the memorial service at Piedmont Funeral Home and other times at their respective homes. The family requests that in lieu of flowers memorials be directed to the Alzheimer's Association, Southern Piedmont Chapter, 3420 Shamrock Drive, Charlotte, NC 28215 or to Wake Forest University School of Medicine, Medical Center Blvd., Winston-Salem, NC 27157.

JOYNER
HARMONY -- Mrs. Lola Mae Hoots Joyner, 73, of 2710 Sandy Springs Road died Thursday at Iredell Memorial Hospital after a battle with ill health for several years. Born Feb. 7, 1927, in Yadkin County, she was a daughter of the late Fletcher Hoots and Mucie Allgood Hoots. She was a homemaker and a faithful member of Sandy Springs Baptist Church, where she sang in the adult and senior choirs. Survivors include her husband, Mr. Paul W. Joyner of the home; two brothers, Ray Hoots and his wife Gladys of Yadkinville and Robert Hoots and his wife Mildred of Winston-Salem; three sisters, Mrs. Phosa Reavis of Lewisville, Mrs. Betty Renegar and her husband Bristol of Yadkinville, and Mrs. Leta Steelman and her husband Bill of Advance; and a sister-in-law, Mrs. Max (Anita) Hoots of Winston-Salem. Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m. today at Sandy Springs Baptist Church with the Rev. David Kiser officiating. The body will lie in state at the church for 30 minutes prior to the funeral hour. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Memorials may be given to the church or the charity of the donor's choice. Reavis Funeral Home of Harmony is entrusted with the arrangements.

KNIGHT
Mrs. Sylvia Hall Knight, widow of Eddie Houston Knight Jr., died Thursday, Dec. 21, 2000, at the Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center. Mrs. Knight was born in Stokes County to the late Lester Bryan and Ethel Gatewood Hall. She was a graduate of Walnut Cove High School and a member of Fairview Moravian Church and the Old Town Woman's Club. She was retired from the former Davis Department Store. Mrs. Knight was also preceded in death by a brother, Maxie G. Hall. Survivors include her two children, a daughter, Mrs. Debbie K. Swaim, and husband, Keith, of Jonesville; a son, David R. Knight, of Winston-Salem; a sister, Mrs. Peggy Hall Wall, and husband, John T. Wall, of King; a brother, R. Talmadge Hall, and wife, Carolyn, of Pfafftown; her mother-in-law, Viola A. Knight; and a sister-in-law, Mrs. Della B. Hall. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 27, at Vogler & Sons Reynolda Chapel with the Rev. Neil Routh officiating. Interment will follow at Forsyth Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

MILNER
FANCY GAP, Va. -- Mr. Gordon Bartlett Milner, 83, died Wednesday at the Brian Center in Winston-Salem. He was born Feb. 21, 1917, in Worcester, Mass., to Louis J. and Ruby Copp Milner. He served with the U.S. Navy during World War II and retired as head of the engineering department of Sealtest Dairy's Winston-Salem plant. Mr. Milner was a member of the Hillsville Presbyterian Church. Preceding him in death were his wife, Jean Locke Milner, and brothers, Louis and Raymond. Surviving are two sisters, Janet Steeves of Washingtonville, N.Y., and Mary Deming of Danbury, Conn.; a daughter, Mrs. James K. Robinson (Jane); two sons, Steven M. Milner and wife, Loretta, of Kamuela, Hawaii, and Peter A. Milner and wife, Tanya, of Crestview Hills, Ky; three grandsons, James K. Robinson III and wife, Terri, of Rural Hall, Michael H. Robinson and wife, Patti, of Kailua, and Robert Hawkins Milner of Crestview Hills; a granddaughter, Brittany L. Milner, of Crestview Hills; and three great-grandchildren, Katherine Alane Robinson, Michael James Robinson and Christina Marie Robinson. Additional local survivors include Mrs. John Neiman (Jean) of Winston-Salem. The Rev. McCarter will conduct a memorial service at Hillsville Presbyterian Church on U.S. 52 in Hillsville, Va., at 2 p.m. Saturday. Interment will be at Stockner cemetery in Fancy Gap. Vogler & Sons Funeral Home Reynolda Road Chapel is serving the family.

MONTGOMERY
KING -- Jodi Blaze Montgomery, infant daughter of Mickey and Tracie Mathis Montgomery, died Wednesday, Dec. 20, 2000, at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem. She was born Dec. 14, 2000, in Forsyth County. Surviving are her parents, Mickey and Tracie Montgomery, of Weatherford Drive in King; a brother, Skylar Montgomery, of the home; maternal grandmother, Katherine Mathis of King; maternal grandfather Don Mathis of Winston-Salem; paternal grandmother Penny Montgomery of King; paternal grandfather Mike Montgomery of Wake Forest; maternal great-grandmother Dot Wells of Winston-Salem; and paternal great-grandmother Ethel McGee of King. Memorial services for the family will be scheduled at a later time. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, 202 Centerport Drive, Suite 100, Greensboro, NC 24709.

MOSTELLER
Mr. Paul "Pete" Elias Mosteller, 89, of Winston-Salem went to be with his Lord on Thursday, Dec. 21, 2000, at Salemtowne Moravian Home. He was born in Lincoln County to the late Elias Israel and Georgianna Roberts Mosteller. Mr. Mosteller was a 1934 graduate of Appalachian State Teachers College and a former teacher and coach at Mineral Springs High School. He retired after 32 years with the U.S. Postal Service. He was an active member of Friedland Moravian Church, serving as Sunday-school teacher, board member, usher, building-committee member and diener. He was an avid golfer and fisherman. Pete was a loving, kind father, devoted husband and wonderful grandfather. He was preceded in death by eight brothers and sisters. Surviving are his wife of 62 years, Geneva Landingham Mosteller of the home; four daughters, Rebecca Myers of Clemmons, Pamela Smith, Sylvia McVay of Greenville, S.C., and Paula Mosteller of Emerald Isle; a twin sister, Pauline Goins of Vale; eight grandchildren, Lesa Simmons, Roy Myers Jr., Traci Dunlap, Christopher Ables, David Beard, Rodney W. Smith, Jamie McVay and Susan Richard; and seven great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 23, 2000, at Friedland Moravian Church, with Dr. Steven Craver, the Rev. Norwood Green and Mr. Mosteller's nephew, Dr. Jim Haney officiating. Interment will be in the church graveyard. The family requests memorials be made to the Friedland Moravian Church Building Fund, 2750 Friedland Church Road, Winston-Salem, NC 27107. Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel is serving the family.

MYERS
BELMONT -- Mr. Harry Edward Myers, 89, formerly of Winston-Salem, died Friday, Dec. 22, 2000, at Carolinas Medical Center. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 23, 2000, at First United Methodist Church in Belmont with the Rev. Robert Little officiating. The family will receive friends at the church immediately following the service. Entombment will follow at 4 p.m. at Scenic Memorial Gardens Mausoleum in Wilkesboro with the Rev. Steve Snipes officiating. Mr. Myers was born Aug. 26, 1911, in Forsyth County to Thomas Edward and Rosa Kapp Myers. He was retired from Duke Power in Winston-Salem, where he was supervisor of the cashier department for 40 years. Mr. Myers was married to Mrs. Kathleen Elizabeth Leonard Myers for 60 years. He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Belmont. He is survived by his wife, of the home; a daughter, Mrs. Joe (Nancy) Maier, of Belmont; a son, Wayne E. Myers, of North Wilkesboro; a sister, Mrs. Irene Mahood, of Kernersville; and four grandchildren, Sara Kathryn Maier and Neal Maier, of Chapel Hill, and Carrie Myers and John Myers of North Wilkesboro. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church of Belmont, 807 South Point, Belmont, NC 28012 or to Burkhead United Methodist Church, 5250 Silas Creek Parkway, Winston-Salem, NC 27106. Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home in North Wilkesboro is in charge of the arrangements.

PIERCE
Mr. Nathaniel DeSoto Pierce was born Nov. 18, 1912, in Fulton, Tenn., to the late Tom and Sophie Pierce. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army during World War II and a retired employee of the U.S. Postal Service. He had lived in the Chicago area most of his life. He was recognized as a great soloist in that area and a musician who played the violin with numerous big bands around the country. Mr. Pierce loved to play tennis. He attended Mount Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Christine Pierce, and six siblings, Chester, Wadie, Noble, Pearl, Emma and Marion Pierce. He departed this life Friday morning, Dec. 22, 2000, at the Meadowbrook Manor of Clemmons following a period of illness. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 24, 2000, in the chapel of Hooper Funeral Home with Dr. Samuel Stevenson officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:30 to 2 p.m. at the funeral home. Mr. Pierce is survived by a sister, Sarah P. Tate, of Hialeah, Fla.; a daughter, the Rev. Sandra Thigpen, of Lewisville; a son, Arthur Alvis, of Louisville, Ky.; a grandson, Brian Christopher Thigpen, of Silver Spring, Md.; and a host of nieces and nephews, including devoted nieces, Sandra Tate, of Augusta, Ga., Kathleen Ojeda, of Hialeah, Marie Claybrook and Pearl Dixon, of Chicago and Mary Conway of East St. Louis, Ill. PRIDDY
KING -- Mr. Troy Wilson Priddy, 74, of Hall Road, Westfield, died Friday, Dec. 22, 2000, at his home after being in declining health for some time. He was born Jan. 24, 1926, to Frank and Minnie Frances Jackson Priddy. He served with the U.S. Navy during World War II and was a retired farmer and painter. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Cora Whitaker, Zella Bullins and Virginia Bowman and two brothers, Earl and Henry Priddy. Surviving are his wife, Nannie Wilson Priddy, of the home; a daughter, Helen (Jimmy) Johnson, and son Troy W. (Doris) Priddy Jr., all of Westfield; four grandchildren, Greg Priddy, Amy Goins, Sherry Taylor and Tony Johnson; three great-grandchildren, Katelyn Goins, Dayna and Matthew Taylor; and a sister, Murphy Ann Whitaker, of Winston-Salem. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday in the Boyles Chapel Primitive Baptist Church with Elders Jimmy Lankford and Scott Marshall officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends this evening from 7 to 9 p.m. at Slate Funeral Home in King and other times at his home on Hall Road. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Stokes County, P.O. Box 10, Danbury, NC 27016.

REEVES
MOCKSVILLE -- Mrs. Etter May Jackson Reeves, 99, of Hobson Drive died Thursday, Dec. 21, 2000, at the Brian Center in Salisbury. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Eaton Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Danny Shore and Mr. Robert Creason officiating. Burial will be in Legion Memorial Park in Cooleemee. The family will be at the funeral home from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday. Mrs. Reeves was born Aug. 22, 1901, in Iredell County to the late John and Etta Murphy Jackson and was a homemaker. She was a member of Edgewood Baptist Church and enjoyed sewing and fishing. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Wright Reeves, in 1962; a son, Lester Reeves, who died in World War II; three brothers; and two sisters. Survivors include four daughters, Ollie May Miller, of Spencer, Kathleen Reeves Griffin, Cora Etta Beck and Emma R. Tutterow, all of Mocksville; two sons, Carl Richard Reeves, of Cooleemee and Donald Ray Reeves, of Mocksville; a special granddaughter, whom she raised, Phyllis Burgess, of Mocksville; 13 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; three stepgreat-grandchildren; and 18 great-great-grandchildren.

WATSON
GLENDALE SPRINGS -- Mr. Billy Allan Watson, formerly of Winston-Salem, died Dec. 21, 2000, at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center. He was born Dec. 24, 1930, in Stokes County to the late Ernest Watson and Mamie Culler Watson. Mr. Watson was a member of Bethany Baptist Church in Winston-Salem. He was a retired truck driver with Hennis Freight Lines with more than 18 years of service and was a U.S. Navy veteran during the Korean conflict. Surviving are two daughters, Karen Watson, of Pinnacle and Denise Bailey and husband, David, of Princeton, W.Va., and two sisters, Pauline Jones, of Pinnacle and Mabel Hunter of Greensboro. Mr. Watson was preceded in death by his first wife, Callie Smith Watson, in 1979 and second wife, Estelle Keaton Watson, in 1999. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 24, 2000, at Hayworth-Miller Rural Hall Chapel by the Rev. Don Harvey. Interment will follow in Crestview Memorial Park, Rural Hall. There will be no visitation. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Heart Association Region 3, P.O. Box 25086, Winston-Salem, NC 27114.

WOODS
Mrs. Bessie Sturdivant Woods departed this life Dec. 20, 2000, at Forsyth Medical Center. Mrs. Woods was born in Morven to the Rev. James A. Sturdivant and Mamie C. Sturdivant. She was a graduate of Carver School class of 1960. Mrs. Woods was employed at E.D.C. in Kernersville for many years and was of the Baptist faith. She was preceded in death by her father, the Rev. James A. Sturdivant Sr.; a daughter, Carolyn R. Woods; a brother, the Rev. James A. Sturdivant Jr.; and a sister, Ms. Annette Sturdivant. She is survived by her loving husband, Mr. Daniel Woods; her loving mother, Mrs. Mamie C. Sturdivant; her loving children, Ms. Nancy Ann Woods, Ms. Mamie R. Woods, Mr. Daniel and Angela Woods, and Mr. Melvin Leon (Marcella), all of Winston-Salem; five grandchildren, Quadarius Amir Staggers, Tacora Danille Woods, Terez Nathaniel Woods, Deon Jamal Woods and Daniel Woods III.; six sisters, Ms. Lessie Pinkey, Mrs. Mary (Wiseman) Dobson Jr., Mrs. Pauline (Cornell) Leak, Ms. Clyde Chaplin, Mrs. Hennietta (Andrew) Timmons and Ms. Nancy Brayboy; four brothers, Robert Sturdivant, T. Willie Sturdivant, Jonnie (Yolanda) Sturdivant and Lee (Essie) Sturdivant, all of Winston-Salem; and a host of other relatives and friends. A funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 23, 2000, at White Rock Baptist Church with the Rev. John Burgess officiating. WOOTEN
Mr. Hubert Franklin Wooten, 79, of Winston-Salem died Tuesday, Dec. 19, 2000, at South Lake Hospital in Clermont, Fla., following a period of declining health. A native of Yadkin County, he was born April 26, 1921, to the late Frank Owen and Martha Miriah Cook Wooten. Mr. Wooten was a member of First Baptist Church of Stanleyville. He was retired from Roadway Express, where he was an over-the-road driver with more than 31 years of service. He was a World War II veteran, having served in the U.S. Army. Mr. Wooten is survived by his wife of 57 years, Kathryn Yvonne Wagoner Wooten, of the home; two daughters, Bonnie W. Dills and husband, C.J., of Bethania and Becki W. Bostick and husband, Wayne, of Winston-Salem; six grandchildren, Jennifer D. Williard, Jonathan Scott Dills, Joshua W. Dills, Leslie D. Pitman, Stacy L. Pitman and Sherry P. Walker; four great-grandchildren; a sister, Mae Godfrey, of Mount Airy; a brother, Tuttle Wooten, of Baltimore, Md.; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 23, 2000, at the First Baptist Church of Stanleyville with the Rev. Jonathan Rogers and the Rev. Larry O. Harrison officiating. Burial will follow in Forsyth Memorial Park. Any memorials may be made to Brenner Children's Hospital, Medical Center Blvd., Winston-Salem, NC 27157. WINFREE
Mr. Gareth Franklin Winfree, 53, of Winston-Salem died Monday, Oct. 23, 2000, at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. He was born Sept. 5, 1947, to Jacob Franklin and Marie Motsinger Winfree. Mr. Winfree was employed with Royal Cake Co. for 30 years and was a member of Union Ridge United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by his father. Surviving are his mother of Winston-Salem; a sister, Janice Marie Winfree, and a niece, Susan Marie Winfree, both of Charlotte; and a number of uncles, aunts and cousins. A funeral service will be 4 p.m. Wednesday at Union Ridge United Methodist Church by the Rev. Laura Greene. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of Winston-Salem/Forsyth County, 1100-C S. Stratford Road, Winston-Salem, NC 27103 or the Epilepsy Foundation of N.C., c/o Wake Forest University School of Medicine, Medical Center Blvd., Winston-Salem, NC 27157-1078. Friends and family may pay respects at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel.
