ALLEN
MOUNT GILEAD -- Miss Lucy Margaret Allen, 88, of 110 Highland Ave. died at 10:46 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 24, 2000, at Montgomery Memorial Hospital in Troy. Funeral services will be Wednesday, Dec. 27, 2000, at First Baptist Church in Mount Gilead with the Rev. Charles Cadenhead officiating. Burial will be in Sharon cemetery, Mount Gilead. She was born Aug. 17, 1912, in Montgomery County to Charles Marvin Allen Sr. and Dora Emma Covington Allen. She was a member of First Baptist Church and was retired from Norwood Department Store. Surviving are a brother, Charles M. Allen Jr. of Winston-Salem; a sister-in-law, Mae Allen of Mount Gilead; and three nieces, Janice Allen of Winter Springs, Fla., Mary Helms of Thomasville and Margaret Kennedy of Jamestown. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 Tuesday night at Edwards Funeral Home in Norwood. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, P.O. Box 297, Mount Gilead, NC 27306.

ANDREW
Mrs. Lorena Manaugh Andrew, 82, of Brighton Gardens died Friday, Dec. 22, at Arbor Acres. She was born in Camargo, Ill., Feb. 2, 1918, to Guy Manaugh and Fayne Tullis Hall Manaugh. She had moved to Winston-Salem two months ago. Mrs. Andrew graduated from the University of Illinois in 1940 with degrees in music and mathematics. She was a featured soloist in six churches in Illinois, Minnesota and Connecticut. She had solo opera roles at the University of Illinois and taught mathematics and French at the high school level. She was vice president of a wholesale business in Woodstock, Ill. She was a member of the Woodstock Garden Club, the LaSalle, Illinois Garden Club and the United Methodist Church in Woodstock. She and her husband had traveled extensively, including three trips to mainland China. She is survived by her husband, Dan E. Andrew, whom she married in 1941; two sons, Dr. Ray Hall Andrew and wife, Dr. Susan Willis, of Winston-Salem and Dr. John Allan Andrew and wife, Dr. Lori Andrew, of Leesburg, Va.; a daughter, Lynne Andrew Dickerson, and husband, Francis, of Los Gatos, Calif., and six grandchildren. The time for a memorial service will be announced later. Vogler and Sons Reynolda Chapel is serving the Andrew family. Memorials may be made to Pfafftown Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), P.O. Box 130, Pfafftown, NC 27040.

BEESON
Mr. Harry Leon Beeson, 76, of Winston-Salem died Saturday, Dec. 23, 2000, at Wake Forest University-Baptist Medical Center. He was born July 28, 1924, in Winston-Salem to H. Dewitt and Margie Willard Beeson who preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Willard Beeson. Mr. Beeson was a member of Knollwood Baptist Church and was a graduate of R.J. Reynolds High School and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He served with the U.S. Naval Air Corps during World War II. Survivors include his wife, Betty McCall Beeson, of the home; a brother, H. Dewitt Beeson and wife, Nancy, of Hot Springs Village, Ark.; a sister-in-law, Orpha Beeson, of Winston-Salem and a number of nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Salem cemetery by the Rev. Tom Bagnel and Dr. Chris Chapman. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Knollwood Baptist Church, 330 Knollwood St., Winston-Salem, NC 27014 or to the charity of the donor's choice. (The arrangements are by Vogler & Sons Main Street Chapel.)

BENTLEY
Mrs. Marlyn Esther "Butch" Bentley, 88, of Winston-Salem went to be with the Lord Sunday, Dec. 24, 2000, at Springwood Care. She was born Oct. 9, 1912, in Browns Summit to J. Luther and Manie Landreth Bentley. She was retired from R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co. and was preceded in death by her husband, Herman T. Bentley. Surviving are her close friends, Lacy and Alice Sandridge of Davidson County and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Parklawn Memorial Gardens Mausoleum Chapel. The family will receive friends following the service. (Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel is in charge of arrangements.)

CATES
Mrs. Mary Rose Cates, 63, of Winston-Salem died Saturday, Dec. 23, 2000, at Forsyth Medical Center. She was born Sept. 18, 1937, in Forsyth County to Howard and Lala Atwood Yontz. Mrs. Cates was of the Baptist faith and was an avid bowler for 30 years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Roger G. Cates who died in 1987 and a brother, Jack Yontz. Surviving are two daughters, Debbie Hanson and husband Ken of Clemmons, and Rhonda Cathey and husband Frank of Winston-Salem; a sister, Lorene Myers of Lexington; three brothers, Rudy Yontz and wife Jean of Atlanta, George Yountz and wife Ann of Winston-Salem, and Steve Weeks and wife Peggy of Winston-Salem; four grandchildren, Kristi Hanson, Brad Hanson, Brandon Cathey and Eric Cathey; and many other loving family and friends. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 27, 2000, at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with Pastor Steve Clayton officiating. Burial will follow in Oaklawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home and requests that memorials be made to Hospice of Davidson County, 524 S. State St., Lexington, NC 27292.

DRAPER
Mr. Walter Reginald Draper of 510 Alexander St. was born to the late Sam and Madie Strong Draper in Winston-Salem where he was a lifelong resident and former employee of Budd Services. He was of the Baptist faith. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lillian Shelton Draper. Mr. Draper departed this life late Thursday evening, Dec. 21, 2000, at WFU Baptist Medical Center following a period of illness. He is survived by two daughters, Kathy Ann Saunders and Shanita Epson; a son, Kenneth (Renee Foster) Gary all of Winston-Salem; five grandchildren; a sister, Loretta Draper Dunford of Baltimore, Md.; a brother, Frank (Mary) Draper of Laurinburg; a sister-in-law, Dorothy Draper of Winston-Salem; a devoted friend, Classie Ford of Winston-Salem; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 27 at the Hooper Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Williams Nichols officiating. Interment will follow in the Evergreen cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home and other times may be contacted at the home of his son, Kenneth Gary, 99 N.W. 27th St. (Hooper)

ELLIOTT
Mr. Charles Ross Elliott, 66, of 6530 Tom St., Pfafftown, died Saturday, Dec. 23, 2000, at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. He was born in Rutherford County April 16, 1934, to Johnathan Baxter Elliott and Catherine Bennett Elliott. Mr. Elliott was a member of Cedar Forest Baptist Church, the Rust and Dust Club and the Vienna Civic Club. He worked for Piedmont Airlines for 33 years and retired from U.S. Airways in 1991. He was preceded in death by his wife, Julia Walker Elliott in 1989. Surviving are two daughters, Gail and Cindy Elliott of the home; two sons, Baxter Elliott of Winston-Salem and Mark Elliott and wife, Pam of Advance; four grandchildren, Johnathan Elliott of Illinois, David Elliott and Julie Elliott of Winston-Salem and Christopher Elliott of Advance; two brothers, Bruce Elliott and wife, Carolyn of Charlotte and Fred Elliott and wife, Almetta of Lancaster, S.C. and a sister, Catherine Taylor of Rutherfordton. The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 27, 2000, at Cedar Forest Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. Neal Wilcox. Interment will follow in Forsyth Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at Vogler and Sons Reynolda Road Chapel from 7 to 9 p.m Tuesday. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Winston-Salem/Forsyth County, 1100-C S. FISH
Mr. Kenneth Charles Fish, 66, of Winston-Salem died early Monday morning, Dec. 25, 2000, at Forsyth Medical Center. He was born Nov. 10, 1934, in Haywood County to Fred and Ruby Lowe Fish. Mr. Fish was retired from Roadway Express Trucking Co. Surviving are five daughters and their husbands, Debbie and Bob Poole of Winston-Salem, Becky and Dave Linville of Archdale, Cindy and Keith Wall of Winston-Salem, Penny Holder and Kevin Thorne of Hickory and Tracy Blevins of Kernersville; the mother of his five daughters, Billie B. Baumgardner; three sisters, Pauline Beasley of Walkertown, Lena Jo VanDiver and Susie Duval of Winston-Salem; two brothers, James and Gary Fish of Winston-Salem; eight grandchildren; and a great-grandson. A funeral service will be held at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with the Rev. Joseph Jennings officiating. Burial will follow in Oaklawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

GREEN
EDEN -- Mr. Gordon Glenn Green, 37, of Burroughs St., Conway, S.C., formerly of Eden died Sunday, Dec. 24, 2000, at the home of his mother-in-law in Madison. Funeral services will be Wednesday, Dec. 27, 2000, at Spray United Methodist Church in Eden. Burial will be in Overlook cemetery, Eden. He was born in Prince William County, Va.. Mr. Green was a member of Spray United Methodist Church, a member of D.A.V., a U.S. Marines veteran and was employed with Honeywell. Surviving are his wife, Tammy Harris Green of the home; two daughters, Jennifer Lynn Green of the home and Jessica Nicole Green of Charlotte; three sons, Daniel Lee Green and David Wesley Green of the home and Dwight Gordon Green of Charlotte; his mother, Jeanne Wheeler Green of Eden; a brother, William A. "Billy" Green of Eden; and four sisters, Cindy Myers of Archdale, Debbie Osborne of Ruffin and Mary Green Southard and Lisa Green of Eden. He was preceded in death by his father, Roy Green, and a brother, Bobby Green. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Fair Funeral Home and other times at the home of his mother, 227 Pine Road, Eden.

HUFFMAN
Mrs. Etta Rose Williams Huffman, 87, of Winston-Salem died Sunday, Dec. 24, 2000, at Springwood Care of Winston-Salem. She was born April 15, 1913, in Forsyth County to Hasten Grady Williams and Rosetta Weaver Williams. Mrs. Huffman was a member of Hillcrest Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Linville Huffman. Surviving are three sons, Gary Huffman Sr. and wife Patti of Winston-Salem, William R. Vawter and Randy Vawter of Winston-Salem; two daughters, Terry Woods of Greensboro and Robin Settlemeyer of King; a sister, Gladys Kennedy of Winston-Salem; six grandchildren, Rhonda Huffman Kelly, Gary Huffman Jr., Tonya Gill Earnhardt, Shannon Huffman, Meredith Huffman Moore and Brandi Huffman Noyola; and 12 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 27, 2000, at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with Elder E.W. Parks officiating. Burial will follow at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

JOYCE
Ms. Janet Rose Owens Joyce, 47, of 822 S. Broad St. passed away Saturday, Dec. 23, 2000, at Forsyth Medical Center after a brief illness. She was a native of Winston-Salem, born April 2, 1953, to Olin Owens and the late Marion Jean Owens. Janet attended public schools in Lexington, was a Seventh Day Adventist, a former manager of housekeeping at Ramada Inn and worked for many years in the health care profession. She is survived by a son, Foyell D. Owens; her father and stepmother, Olin and Mildred Owens; two brothers, Steve Owens and Phillip Owens; a sister, Gloria Owens; an uncle, Charles Holt; two aunts, Georgia Hurst and Dorothy Beauregard; a great-aunt, Jessie McIntosh; and other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 27, 2000, at Ephesus Seventh Day Adventist Church with Pastor Moses Edwards officiating. Interment will be in the Evergreen cemetery. The family visitation will be from 1:30 to 2 p.m. Wednesday at the church. The family may be contacted at the home of her father and stepmother, 265 Elm Drive. (Russell)

KIMBLE
Mrs. Pearlie Mae Barber Kimble, 86, of 775-E Carl Russell Ave. passed away Friday, Dec. 22, 2000, at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center following a period of illness. She was born March 30, 1914, in Concord, the daughter of the late John and Jenny Barber. She was an active member of Antioch Christian Church, where she served on the spiritual choir, the Christian women fellowship, the pastor's aid and the Sunday school until her health failed. She was joined in matrimony to the late Roddy Kimble. She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Helen Harris and eight brothers and sisters, Nan Covington, Katie Morris, Minnie Howie, Evangelist Eloise Griffith, John Barber, Burdette Barber, Will Barber and Andy Barber Sr. She is survived by a daughter, Ms. Beatrice Ancrum of Kernersville; 10 grandchildren, Danny Ancrum Jr. (Marilyn) of Philadelphia, Diane Ancrum of Kernersville, Olivia K. Lowery (Donald), Laura V. Bennett (Billy Ray), Robin Southern (Darryl) and Robert L. Benjamin Jr., all of Winston-Salem; Rodney L. Kimble of Atlanta, Harriett Whitehead (Eric), Patricia A. Young (Tony) and Theodore Benjamin, all of Charlotte; 10 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; three sisters, Sue Humphrey of Winston-Salem, Charlotte McClure of Harrisburg and Cornelius Herbert of New York, N.Y.; a sister-in-law, Alma Barber of Winston-Salem; and a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 27, 2000, at the Antioch Christian Church with the Rev. James Gilliam officiating. Interment will be in the Piedmont Memorial Gardens. KRAMER
Judy Elizabeth Lyerly Kramer died Dec. 1, 2000, at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. She was born June 3, 1944, in Forsyth County to J.R. Lyerly and Helen Roberson Lyerly. She earned an associate's degree from Forsyth Tech in computer programming, graduated from WSSU with a bachelor's degree in applied science and worked at Wachovia Bank as senior analyst/programmer. Mrs. Kramer is survived by her son, Charles K. Kramer, of ECU; a daughter, Vickie Lynn Ather; her mother, a sister, Carrie (Steve) Bass, and a brother, Kenneth Lyerly, of Glen Allen, Va.; a sister, Helen (Bill) Messer of Lewisville; two very dear friends, Dottie and George Shutt, of Lexington; and a close friend of the family, Danny Dowell. She was preceded in death by her father and a brother, J.R. "Sonny" Lyerly. Memorials may be made to Hospice and Palliative CareCenter . A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 28, at Memorial Funeral Chapel, 5980 Kinney Road, Winston-Salem, NC to celebrate her life.

MANN
WHITEVILLE -- Mr. Sol Mann, 75, of 524 Old Farm Trail died Sunday, Dec. 24, 2000, in Columbus County Hospital. He was born in Columbus County the son of the late Joseph S. Mann and Lillie Margolis Mann. He was a widower of the late Miriam Goldstein Mann. He was the retired owner of J.S. Mann's in Whiteville and a member of the Beth Israel Synagogue. Mr. Mann was an avid community leader. He was a member and past president of the Whiteville Rotary Club and the American Legion Post 127. Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 26, 2000, at Beth Israel Synagogue by Rabbi James Apple. Interment will be in Whiteville Memorial cemetery. He is survived by three sons, Terry Mann and his wife Sally of Whiteville, Marty Mann and his wife, Kathryn of Ashville and David Mann and his wife Heidi of Clemmons; a daughter, Karen Mann Bagnasco and her husband Steve of Harrisburg; a sister, Beatrice Steinberg of Whiteville; and six grandchildren, Joseph and Jacob Mann, Ethan and Jillian Mann and Daniel and Patrick Bagnasco. The family will receive friends at Mr. Mann's home at 524 Old Farm Trail. MAREK
Marylou Marek, 73, of 4229 Sandhurst Drive, Clemmons, died Saturday, Dec. 23, 2000, at Meadowbrook Manor after a long illness. She was born Feb. 18, 1927, in Columbus, Ohio, to the late Albert and Bertha Winterol. She came to Winston-Salem in 1968 and was a longtime employee of Sam's Gourmet and Sam's Canterbury restaurants, retiring in 1989. Sisters Irene Hayes and Helen Sennett, brother Albert Winterol and granddaughter April Phipps preceded her in death. She is survived by a brother, Robert Winterol, of the home; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Patti and David Fishel of Valrico, Fla., Susan and Chuck Munday of the home and Debra Marek of Seattle, Wash. She is also survived by grandsons Chris Davidson and John Phipps of Clemmons; great-grandson Anthony Pardue of Lexington and several nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Holy Family Catholic Church, 4820 Kinnamon Road, Clemmons. The family requests that memorials be made to the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston-Salem, NC 27103. Arrangements are being handled by Memorial Funeral Chapel of Lewisville.

McBRIDE
LEXINGTON -- Mrs. Sophia Layne Hedrick McBride, 64, of Glenwood Drive died Sunday, Dec. 24, at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home in Winston-Salem after an extended illness. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 27, 2000, at Davidson Funeral Home Lexington Chapel with the Rev. John Taylor and Dr. Billy Joe Leonard officiating. Entombment will be in the mausoleum at Forest Hill Memorial Park. Mrs. McBride was born in Davidson County March 17, 1936, to Roby Hedrick and Daphne Myers Hedrick. She was the former co-owner and operator of Golden Age Nursing Home and secretary/treasurer of McBride Realty. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church and attended Greensboro Women's College. Surviving are her husband, Samuel "Sam" Edwin McBride Sr. of the home; sons Sam E. McBride Jr. of Chapel Hill and James Lee McBride of Lexington; a daughter, Christine McBride Johnson of Charlotte; five grandchildren; her mother, Daphne Myers Hedrick of Lexington; and a brother, Craig Hedrick of Lexington. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Davidson Funeral Home and other times at the home, 106 Glenwood Drive, Lexington. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Davidson County, P.O. Box 1941, Lexington, NC 27293.

McGEE
Mr. James L. McGee, 62, of Bethania Station Road, died at Wake Forest University-Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem after a period of declining health. He was born in Forsyth County March 11, 1938, the son of the late James Monroe McGee Sr. and Louise Griffin McGee. Throughout his career he was involved with route and retail sales. Surviving are a son, L. Keith McGee, and wife, Tracie, of Winston-Salem; two daughters, Teri Baxley and husband, Dean, of Wallburg and Angela Ring and husband, Shane, of Winston-Salem; a step-daughter, Rhonda Rhodes of Rural Hall; six grandchildren, Heather, Kendall, Kenny, Cole, Candace and Claudia; eight sisters, Shirley, Brenda, Virginia, Linda, Sandra, Karen, Dian and Debbie and a brother, Jimmy; a special friend, Sue Everhart, and many good friends in his 14 years with A.A. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 27, 2000, at Hayworth-Miller Rural Hall Chapel by the Rev. Charles Sparks. Burial will follow in Crestview Memorial Park in Rural Hall. The McGee family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 26, 2000, at the funeral home and requests that memorials be made to Senior Services/Meals on Wheels, 836 Oak St., Tobacco Square, Suite 320, Winston-Salem, NC 27101-1407.
