REAVIS
HAMPTONVILLE -- Mr. Willard W. Reavis, 81, retired Hamptonville postmaster died Sunday, Dec. 31, 2000, at his home. He was born April 20, 1919, in Lynn, Ind. to the late Melver W. and Esta Cook Reavis. Moving to Davie County at an early age. Mr. Reavis was a World War II Navy veteran. He worked for the former Chatham Manufacturing Co. and served with the V.A. Hospital and retired as the Hamptonville postmaster with 21 years of service. He was a member of West Yadkin Baptist Church. Surviving are his wife of 61 years, Ruby King Reavis of the home; his children, Earlene (Boyd) Goin of Hamptonville, Judy (Wayne) Podulka of Plano, Texas and Brenda (Dale) Money of Elkin; his grandchildren, Candice Brown, Jennifer Podulka, Amanda Podulka, Misty Ball, Michael Podulka and Ricky Money; and his great-grandsons, Vance and Juston Brown. Also surviving are his brothers and four sisters, Olive Culler of Mocksville, Clydean Shore of Yadkinville, Melva Culler of Mocksville, Patrick (Beatrice) Reavis of Mocksville, Marie (J.C.) Windsor of Winston-Salem and Thomas (Jean) Reavis of Hamptonville. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Mark Brown and a sister, Mildred Sherrill. His funeral service will be held 3:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Gentry Family Chapel by the Rev. Grady Trivette and the Rev. Dennis Bell. He will lie in state 30 minutes prior to the service. Burial will follow in the West Yadkin Baptist Church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at Gentry Family Funeral Service on Highway 601 N., Yadkinville. SHAW
BOCA RATON, Fla. -- Mrs. Blossom Hirsch Shaw died Sunday, Dec. 31, 2000. She was born July 27, 1921, in Chicago, Ill. to Ervin and Jean Blumberg Hirsch. Mrs. Shaw was a member of Temple Bethel in Boca Raton, Fla. Surviving are a daughter, Bonnie Shaw of New York City, N.Y.; four sons, Roger Shaw and wife Ellen of Hillsborough, N.J., Jerry Shaw and wife Susan of Boca Raton, Marc Shaw and wife Francine of New York City, N.Y. and Ed Shaw and wife Rebecca of Winston-Salem; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be 10 a.m. Jan. 7, 2001, at Temple Bethel in Boca Raton, Fla. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made to the Hospice and Palliative CareCenter, 1100-C S. Stratford Road, Winston-Salem, NC 27103. Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
SINK
Mr. Thomas Lake Sink, 88, died Friday, Dec. 29, 2000. He was born to Thomas Arthur Sink and Lula Livengood Sink on June 8, 1912, in Midway, Davidson County. During the past 62 years, Lake and his wife, Mae Elizabeth Vogler Sink, nutured and grew their loving life and family together in Midway. He enjoyed a long and productive career with Western Electric, and was a member of the AT&T Pioneers. In addition to being a wise and loving father and husband, Lake was a respected citizen of the Midway community. His gentle, yet strong, demeanor and objective, fair insights led and encouraged family and friends alike. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Coy Sink and Fonzo Sink, and his sister, Ruby Sink Thacker. In addition to his wife, Lake is survived by three children, Richard Sink, Ilene Trujillo and Patricia Sink; a daughter-in-law, Brenda West Sink; a son-in-law, Jaime Trujillo; six grandchildren, Missy and Mark Moore, Beth and Andy Beck and Sandra and Aliana Trujillo; two great-grandchildren, Sarah Beth and Tanner Moore; three sisters, Grace Sink Fritts, Elizabeth Sink Hilton and Frances Sink Smith; and a brother, J.D. Sink. The visitation with family and friends will be from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 31, 2000, at Faith Missionary Alliance Church (1077 Gumtree Road). The funeral service will be at Faith Missionary Alliance Church at 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 1, 2001, with the Rev. Michael Gates, the Rev. Lee Strange, the Rev. SNOW
BOONVILLE -- Mr. Alma Gray Driver Snow, 93, died Sunday, Dec. 31, 2000, at her home. Mrs. Snow was born July 1907 in Yadkin County to Henry and Sarah Shore Driver. She was a member of Charity Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Charlie Snow; a son-in-law, Carlton Adams; three sisters; and four brothers. Surviving are two daughters, Dorothy Adams and Nellie (Dewey) Bullin of Boonville; three grandchildren, Donnie (Vickie) Adams, Judy (Dean) Byrd and Carlene (Gordon) Davis all of Boonville; seven great-grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Gertrude Davis of Yadkin Nursing Center. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2001, at Charity Baptist Church, Boonville by the Rev. Russ Nixon and the Rev. Cecil Weatherholt. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2001, at Gentry Family Funeral Home, Highway 601 N., Yadkinville. BRUCE
Dr. William Henry Bruce Jr., 85, of 2021 New Walkertown Road died Thursday, Dec. 28, 2000, at his residence following a lengthy illness. A native of Winston-Salem, he was born Oct. 9, 1915, the son of the late Dr. William Henry and Mabel Violet Merrick Bruce. Dr. Bruce attended the local public schools, graduated from Howard University and did graduate work at Fisk University. He graduated from Meharry Medical College in 1943. He served two years in the U.S. Army and was with the 761st Tank Battalion in Europe under General Patton. He spent three years at Lincoln Hospital in Durham. He studied further at Margaret Hague Hospital in Jersey City, N.J.; Chicago Lying-In Hospital; National Maternity Hospital, Dublin, Ireland, and the University of London where he spent a year. Dr. Bruce began practice in Winston-Salem in December 1951 in the Bruce Building named after his father. He opened a new office, the Women's Clinic on New Walkertown Road in March of 1957 where he remained until he retired from private obstetrics and gynecology practice in 1984. While in practice he was on the staff of Kate Bitting Reynolds Memorial Hospital until it closed in the early 1970s. He was also on the staff of Forsyth Medical Center. Dr. Bruce was a boating enthusiast for many years. He is survived by his devoted wife of 57 years, Mary Carolyn Atkins Bruce; a loving daughter, Barbara; son-in-law Stephen Harris Davis; granddaughters Stephanie (Oscar) Brenninkmeyer and Shannon Ashley Davis; grandson Stephen Bruce Davis; and great-grandchildren Charles Oscar and Caroline Elizabeth Brenninkmeyer. He was preceded in death by a sister, Hazel Bruce Scott. Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2001, at the Evergreen cemetery with the Rev. Donald Jenkins presiding. YADKINVILLE -- Mr. B. Stephen Cranfill, 32, of Styers Mill Road died Saturday, Dec. 30, 2000, at his home. Mr. Cranfill was born Feb. 25, 1968, in Yadkin County to Burley C. Cranfill and the late Lois Cranfill Cornelius. He was employed with Greg's Painting Co. and was a member of Peace Haven Baptist Church in Yadkinville. Surviving are his wife, Christy Brannon Cranfill of Yadkinville; two sons, Bradley Stephen Cranfill and Colby Seth Cranfill of Yadkinville; his father of Yadkinville; a sister, Janice Cantrell of Yadkinville; a niece, Brittany Morawitz of Weaverville; and a nephew, Joshua Morawitz of Yadkinville. His funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Gentry Family Chapel by the Rev. Bruce Freeman. Burial will follow in the Peace Haven Baptist Church cemetery. DREW
Mr. John Reese Drew Jr., 44, died Thursday, Dec. 28, 2000, at Forsyth Medical Center. Mr. Drew was born May 25, 1956, to John Reese Drew Sr. and Alice Zimmer Drew in Johnstown, Pa. He was retired from the U.S. Army and employed with RCS Communications. Mr. Drew enjoyed golf, cooking, gardening and reading. Mr. Drew was of the Presbyterian faith. He was preceded in death by his mother, Mrs. Alice Jean Zimmer Drew. Surviving are his wife, Alexandra Drew of the home; two daughters, Melanie and Maike of the home; a son, Jeremy of the home; his father, John Reese Drew Sr. of Winston-Salem; and two aunts and uncles, Karen and John Bowden of Springfield, Va., and Rosemarie and Edward Zimmer of Johnstown, Pa. A graveside funeral service will be conducted with full military honors at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2001, at Forsyth Memorial Park with the Rev. Maggi Henderson officiating. YADKINVILLE -- On Dec. 30, 2000, our family lost a devoted and loving husband, father, paw paw, son, brother and friend, Robert "Johnny" H. Gough Jr. He was friends with and loved by so many people, and he will be missed. Robert worked at Microfibers in Winston-Salem for 13 years after the closing of AT&T. He was born Nov. 8, 1950, to Exie Plowman Gough and Robert Gough. He left behind a loving and devoted wife, Linda Hutchens Gough of the home; a son, Robbie (Sandy) Gough and a grandson, Nathan Gough, all of Yadkinville; a daughter, Gretta Gough (Marvin) Adams of Yakdinville; his mother, Exie Plowman Gough, and a loyal friend, Don Baity of Winston-Salem; two sisters, Kathleen (Vernon) Dixon and Jeanette (Doug) Holt, all of Yadkinville; and many nieces and nephews. Mr. Gough was preceded in death by his father, Robert "Rob" Gough. His funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Gentry Family Chapel by the Rev. Timothy Jones. NORTH WILKESBORO -- Mr. John Elbert Hall Sr., 70, of Coffey Ave. died Monday, Jan. 1, 2001, at Wilkes Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be held 12 noon Wednesday at Reins-Sturdivant Chapel with the Rev. Frank E. McKenzie and Judge Julius A. Rousseau Jr. officiating. Burial will be in Scenic Memorial Gardens. The family will receive at Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home in North Wilkesboro from 6 to 8 Tuesday night. Mr. Hall was born in Rockingham County on May 13, 1930, to Tom A. and Hester Hawkins Hall. He graduated from Leaksville High School, High Point College and Wake Forest School of Law and moved to North Wilkesboro to serve as law clerk to U.S. Judge Johnson J. Hayes. Mr. Hall served as assistant U.S. District Attorney in the mid-'50s. He was a practicing attorney for 45 years. He was a member of the North Wilkesboro Elks Club, Wilkes County Bar Association, N.C. Bar Association and Liberty Masonic Lodge #45. Mr. Hall served on the board of directors of the Wilkes County Vocational Workshop and Legal Services of the Blue Ridge. Mr. Hall was preceded in death by his first wife, Peggy Measemer Hall; two sisters, Evangeline Kallam of Eden and Ellen Rae Storey of Canton, Ohio; and a brother, Edison Hall of Eden. Mr. Hall is survived by his wife, Katherine "Kaye" Beamon Hall of the home; a son, John "Bert" Elbert Hall Jr. and his wife, Sandra of North Wilkesboro; a sister, Evelyn Jones of Winston-Salem; and two grandchildren, Ashley Alease Hall and Brookelynn Ruth Hall of North Wilkesboro. On the evening of Dec. 31, 2000, our family lost a loving husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, uncle and friend, Marvin Lee Henderson, after he bravely fought a 14-year illness. Marvin was a furniture sales representative for over 40 years, having received the prestigious Ed Vosburgh Sr. Memorial Award as the Outstanding Furniture Manufacturer's Representative for 1983 presented by the Southern Home Furnishing Association. He was born Aug. 19, 1921, in Maysville to Posie Shepherd Henderson and Clater Newton Henderson. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Clater Newton Henderson Jr. Surviving are his wife, Ruby Wilson Henderson, of the home; a daughter, Gail Henderson, of Greensboro; son Wayne Henderson of Winston-Salem; three beloved grandchildren, Chad, Callie and Rob Henderson of Winston-Salem; sisters Iula Langley of Wilmington, Mildred Mish of Cocoa Beach, Fla., and Hazel Porter of Winston-Salem; and many loving nieces, nephews and friends. Mr. William Dunning Holoman Jr. of 3120 Bonhurst Drive died Saturday, Dec. 30, 2000, at the McGuire VA Medical Center in Richmond, Va. He was born in Lynchburg, Va. Nov. 22, 1932, to the late William and Rebecca Williams Holoman. Mr. Holoman was a retired administrator at Wake Forest University and was a member of St. Leo's Catholic Church. Surviving are his two sons, William C. Holoman of Salt Lake City, Utah, and John T. Holoman of Winston-Salem. Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2001, at St. Leo's Catholic Church. SALISBURY -- Mr. William Harvey Hundley, 66, of 270 Lariat Circle died Sunday, Dec. 31, 2000, at Rowan Regional Medical. He was born Oct. 4, 1934, in Rockingham County to Maude Dealie Hundley of Biscoe and the late Cyrus Russell Hundley. Mr. Hundley was educated in the Rockingham County Schools and served in the U.S. Navy, serving in Korea. He was retired from Southern Railway after 31 years as a conductor. He then became the co-owner of the Play Skool Day Care in Spencer. Surviving in addition to his mother are his wife, Shelby Joyce Hundley; a son, Duanne Hundley of Stoneville; daughters Teresa Gayle Stout of Salisbury, Pamela Hundley of Danbury, Phyliss Jansen of Reidsville and Lynn Simmons of Mayodan; stepdaughter Billie Lathan of Apex; six brothers, Howard Odell Hundley of Baltimore, Md., Robert Earl Hundley, James Leon Hundley and Cyrus Kenneth Hundley, all of Seagrove, Donald Wayne Hundley of Ramseur and John Michael Hundley of Mount Juliet, Tenn.; a sister, Margaret Ann Neal of Robbins; and 12 grandchildren. EAST BEND -- Mr. Harold Gene Hunter, 70, of Hobson Road passed away Sunday, Dec. 31, 2000, at Forsyth Medical Center, with complications from a stroke he suffered on Jan. 7, 1993. Harold was a loving husband and devoted father and grandfather. He was born Dec. 13, 1931, in Forsyth County to the late Cad E. and Mary Tesh Hunter. Harold was retired from R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co. with 40 years of service and was a member of Mount Bethel Baptist Church. Surviving are his wife of 25 years, Faye Hawks Hunter of the home; two daughters, Mary Alison Hunter of the home and Jason and Amy Hunter Anderson of Jonesville; grandchildren Nevin Hunter and Samantha Anderson; brothers Henry L. Hunter of Roanoke, Va., Robert Hunter of Clemmons and the Rev. Billy Hunter of Winston-Salem; and sisters Margaret Long of Midway, Wanda Darnell of Winston-Salem and Ruby Myers of Charlotte. HUNTER
ALEXANDRIA, Va. -- Mrs. Paul H. (Mildred) Hunter, 77, died Dec. 26, 2000, while visiting her daughter in Colorado Springs, Colo. Mrs. Hunter was born in Chatham, N.J., on March 5, 1923. Mrs. Hunter had formerly been a resident of Winston-Salem for 30 years before moving to Alexandria in 1977. While living in Winston-Salem, Mrs. Hunter was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church. She was president of the Junior Woman's Club of Winston-Salem and a member of the executive board of the Eye Bank of North Carolina for 18 years. She was a USO volunteer for 15 years, with over 4,000 hours of volunteer service as a tour director to military personnel. She worked part-time at the U.S. Department of State for the past 11 years as receptionist/tour guide where she gave tours of the Diplomatic Reception Rooms. She was preceded in death by her husband of 38 years, Paul, who died in 1983. She is survived by three daughters, Irene Hunter of Front Royal, Va., Erica (Louis) Hunter Whitcombe of Colorado Springs, Colo. and Helen Long of Saudi Arabia. Mrs. Hunter has three grandchildren, Kelly Whitcombe, Stuart and Anne Long; three sons-in-law, Scott Eshleman, Kevin Whitcombe and John Long; a sister, Edie Pettigrew; and two brothers, Russell Lutz and Douglas Lutz. A memorial service will be held 1 p.m. Jan. 3, 2001, at Vienna Presbyterian Church, 124 Park St. N.W., Vienna, Va.

MOCKSVILLE -- Mrs. Shelby J. Allen Hutchens, 63, of 601 North passed away Sunday, Dec. 31, 2000, at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem. Mrs. Hutchens was born Oct. 25, 1937, in Surry County to Pauline Softly Allen and the late Clyde Allen. She was preceded in death by a brother, Jimmy Allen. She was a member of Turnetine Baptist Church and retired from QST in 1993. Mrs. Hutchens is survived by her husband of 45 years, William R. Hutchens; a son, William G. Hutchens of Mocksville; a daughter, Kathy J. Hutchens of Midland; two grandchildren, Bryan Hutchens and Christine Hutchens; a brother, Fred Allen of Cooleemee; and five sisters, Joanne Barney of Mocksville, Jane Sammons of Cooleemee and Peggy Gaither, Glenda Call and Darlene Naylor of Mocksville.
