HUTCHINS
Mr. Hansel Gray Hutchins, 77, of 2800 Pioneer Trail, Winston-Salem died Saturday, Jan. 20, 2001, at Forsyth Medical Center. He was born in Yadkinville Aug. 18, 1923, to Loftin Gray Hutchins and Hattie Lewis Hutchins. Mr. Hutchins served with the Army Air Corps during World War II and retired from McLean Trucking Co. in 1980. He was a longtime member of Beck’s Baptist Church and the men’s Sunday school class. He enjoyed camping and golf. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Cecil Hutchins. Surviving are his wife, Christine Deal Hutchins of the home; two sons, Hansel Gray Hutchins Jr. and wife Patricia of Lexington and Gregory Allen Hutchins and wife Leigh of East Bend; a daughter, Andrea Lynne Soots of Winston-Salem; four grandchildren, Nicole Long and husband Branden, Heather Hutchins, Jason Payne and wife Melissa and Jami Sink and husband Steven; and two great-grandchildren, Greyson Sink and Tyler Long. The funeral service will be 2 p.m. Monday at Vogler Reynolda Road Chapel conducted by Dr. Jim Nelson. Interment will follow at Forsyth Memorial Park. JONES
Mr. Henry Monroe Jones Sr., 91, of 120 Reid Acres Lane, Lewisville, died Saturday, Jan. 20, 2001 at Forsyth Medical Center. He was born March 4, 1909 in Forsyth County to William H. and Annie Smith Jones. He was retired from R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co. Mr. Jones was a very active member of Lewisville Baptist Church since 1941 when his health permitted. He was deacon emeritus and served on several committees. He was also a past member of the Lewisville Civic Club. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers; Paul, Alvis and Griffth Jones; and two sisters; Susan Lowder and Gladys Sink. Surviving are his wife, Mamie Phelps Jones; three daughters; Anna Hooker and husband Clyde of Hope Mills; Dot Faircloth and husband Jake of Clemmons; and Daisy Long and husband K.W. of Pfafftown; three sons; H. Monroe Jones Jr. and wife Judy of Clemmons; Thomas F. Jones and wife Martha of Clemmons; and Michael E. Jones and wife Toni of Lewsisville; three sisters; Lucile Hill of Clemmons; Margaret Harper and husband A.B. of Clemmons; and Grace Jones of Winston-Salem; three brothers; Virgil Jones and wife Odessa of Clemmons; Bill Jones and wife Dot of Lewisville; and Phillip Jones and wife Wilma of Clemmons; 11 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Lewisville Baptist Church. The Rev. Jeff Priest and Dr. Joe D. Coltrane will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek chapel and request memorials be made to Lewisville Baptist Church Building Fund, P.O. LINEBERRY
EAST BEND — Mr. Raymond Lineberry, 86, of 4136 Limerock Road, died Sunday, January 21, 2001 at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem. He was born in Yadkin County on Dec. 19, 1914 to Early Daniel and Addie Mae Crews Lineberry. Mr. Lineberry was a member of Richmond Hill Baptist Church. Surviving are three sons, Rockie (Selena) Lineberry of Winston-Salem; Jerry (Darlene) Lineberry of Hampton, Va.; and Jackie Lineberry of East Bend; two sisters, Goldie Starling of Clemmons, and Evelean Starling of East Bend; five grandchildren, Brian Lineberry, Byron Lineberry, Brent Lineberry, Shane Lineberry and Sterling Lineberry; and three great-granchildren, Adam Lineberry, John Lineberry and Autin Lineberry. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, Jan. 23 at 2 p.m. at the Richmond Hill Baptist Church by the Rev. Will Hamric and the Rev. Skip Furrow. The body will be placed in the church at 1:30 p.m. to lie in state. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Jackson DeeMintz '`Bud’’ Looper, 74, of Healy Towers, died Saturday, Jan. 20, 2001 at Forsyth Medical Center. He was born Nov. 13, 1926 in Forsyth County and was a U.S. Army veteran. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Faye L. Cox. Surviving are a son and a daughter-in-law, Paul and Shelia Looper of Lexington; two sisters, Evelyn L. Frye and Anne L. Taylor of Winston-Salem, several nieces, nephews and friends. Mr. Looper will be missed by his family and friends. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Victory Baptist Church on Hampton Road in Clemmons by Pastor Michael Duffield. Burial will follow in Oaklawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel.
MATHIS
NORTH WILKESBORO — Mrs. Gradie Blanche Henderson Mathis, 94, of Windy Gap Road, North Wilkesboro, the widow of Gordon Mathis, died Saturday, Jan. 20, 2001 at Wilkes Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Rick Jackson and the Rev. Vaughn Brown officiating. The body will be placed in the church at 1:30 p.m. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Mrs. Mathis was born July 4, 1906 in Wilkes County to P.L. and Martha Redding Henderson. She was a member of Cranberry Church, where she attended the adult ladies Sunday school class. One daughter, Ona Faye Burris, and three grandchildren also preceded her in death. She is survived by six daughters and sons-in-law, Irene and Jim Amos of Clarksville, Tenn.; Toby and Sanford Call and Katie and Don Inscore of Wilkesboro; Erma and the late Ralph Everhart of Winston-Salem; Geraldine and Louie Nicks of Boonville; and Betty and Smith Roberts of North Wilkesboro; four sons and daughters-in-law, Dale and the late Mable Mathis of Roaring River; Gordon and Christa Mathis of Lewisville; and Lynn and Elaine Mathis and Reid and Rose Mathis of North Wilkesboro; 22 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren. MATTHEWS
Mr. Paul Matthews, 46, of Winston-Salem, died Saturday, Jan. 20, 2001, at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. He attended Forsyth County schools and Winston-Salem State University. A veteran of the U.S. Army, he was employed at Sara Lee. He was born to Bertha W. Matthews, and the late Robert P. Matthews. Survivors include a son, Kevin Matthews; his mother, Bertha W. Clinkscales, and stepfather, Louie Clinkscales; four sisters, Rosetta Ross and husband, Frank, Roslyn Foote and husband, Wendell, Marlilyn Jackson, and Cynthia Matthews; a brother, Kenneth Matthews, and wife, Angela; one very close stepbrother, Gerald Clinkscales, and wife, Darlene, four additional stepbrothers, a stepsister, and a host of uncles, aunts, nieces, and nephews, two devoted friends, Gayle Hill, and Cheryl Johnson. A memorial service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at Saint Peters World Outreach Center. The family will receive friends at the church for 30 minutes prior to the service. MICKLE
Mr. Olon Martin Mickle, 59, of 338 Barnes Road, died at 2 a.m., Saturday, Jan. 20, 2001, at his home. He was born July, 30, 1941 in Surry County, the son of James Montgomery and Iva Wood Mickle. He had worked with Pike Electric Co. for several years. He was a professional roofer, truck driver, and an avid horseman performing in many rodeos with many trophies to his credit. Surviving are one son, Tim Mickle, and his fiancée, Tina, of 284 Lindsay Lane, Winston-Salem, seven brothers; the Rev. Harold Mickle, of Durham, James, Bob and Dan Mickle, all of Florida, Frank Mickle, of Walnut Cove, Eddie Mickle, of Texas, and Roger Mickle, of Winston-Salem, two sisters; Mrs. Mary Russell, of Rural Hall, and Mrs. Polly Duggins, of Flynt, Mich., and one grandson, Chad Ashton Mickle. He was preceded in death by two sisters; Jeanneta and Geraldine, and one brother, Jerry. The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the J.C. Green and Sons Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Jerry McGee will officiate. Burial will be in Crestview Memorial Gardens in Rural Hall. The family will be at the J.C. Green and Sons Funeral Home at 10301 N. N.C. 109 (Wallburg Chapel) from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday. Mr. Mickle has left behind many special friends and family, and the family would like to thank a special nephew, Todd Cardwell, for his loving support during his illness.
MOORE
SANDY RIDGE — Dean Johnson Moore, 59, died Friday, Jan. 19, 2001 at Community Memorial Hospital in Wytheville, Va. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 22 at Oak Ridge Baptist Church cemetery in Sandy Ridge. Mr. Moore was born Aug. 19, 1941 to the late Clifton and Bessie Smith Moore. He was preceded in death by a brother, Lloyd Craig Moore. He is survived by his brothers, Tom Moore and his wife, Gilda, of Reidsville; and Clement Moore and his wife, Janet, of Lawsonville. The family will receive friends immediately following the graveside service at the Oak Ridge Baptist Church Fellowship Hall. Ray Funeral Home in Madison is serving the Moore Family.
NANCE
LEXINGTON — Carl R. Nance, 90, of Lexington, died Saturday. He is survived by a daughter, Mary Lou N. Haynes of Winston-Salem.
His funeral will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at the First Reformed United Church of Christ.
The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. in the church parlor.
SCALES
STONEVILLE — Mrs. Mary Scales, 66, of 208 Belthrop Road, died Friday, Jan. 19, 2001, at Morehead Memorial Hospital in Eden. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Burning Bush Holiness Church in Stoneville. Burial will be in Eden Gardens cemetery in Eden. She was a native of Rockingham County and a member of burning Bush Holiness Church where she served as a Sunday School teacher, secretary, and was a member of the usher board. She is survived by her husband, James W. Scales, of the home, a daughter, Anita S. McFadden, of Stoneville, three sons; James Michael Scales (Phyllis), Timothy Lee Scales (Louise), both of Eden, Dwight Ellis Scales, of the home, a sister, Sarah Frances Martin (Robert), of Eden, a brother, Thomas Harbor (Stella), of Winston-Salem, a devoted friend, Susan Little, six grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and a host of other relatives and friends. SMITH
Miss Elizabeth H. Smith, 102, formerly of Mount Airy, passed away Saturday, Jan. 20, 2001. Miss Smith was born in Pilot Mountain on Nov. 14, 1898, the daughter of Fitzhugh Lee and Lula Elma Case Smith. She moved to Rockford Street in Mount Airy while a youngster. She attended school in Mount Airy and graduated from NCCW, which is now the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, in 1920. She taught math in Thomasville, Gastonia, Mount Airy and Sanford high schools for a total of nine years. She was employed by the Bureau of Public Roads in Washington, D.C. from 1931 to 1953. Returning to her ancestral home, she worked for the Mount Airy Public Library from 1954 to 1963 and did voluntary service there for several more years. In 1991, she became a resident of the Triad United Methodist Home (now Arbor Acres Methodist Retirement Community) in Winston-Salem, where she lived the remaining years of her life. Surviving are a brother and sister-in-law, Frank L. and Ann Smith of Winston-Salem, and several nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held Saturday, Jan. 26 at 3 p.m. at the Fellowship Hall of Arbor Acres, Arbor Road, Winston-Salem. The family asks that in lieu of flowers contributions be made to a charity of the donors choice. Moody Funeral Home is assisting the Smith Family.
