STONE
Mrs. Louise Ferraiolo Stone, 54, of Weisner Court died Saturday, Jan. 20, 2001, at her home. She was born July 7, 1946, in New Haven, Conn. to Salvatore and Virginia Matheson Ferraiolo. She worked with Piedmont News Co. for a number of years and was a member of Christ Moravian Church and the A.R. Carr Sunday school class. Mrs. Stone is survived by her husband, Roger Lee Stone of the home; a daughter, Tracy Stone Egebrecht of Winston-Salem; son, Douglas Lee Stone of Winston-Salem; two grandchildren, Adam Stone Egebrecht and Nicholas Ryan Egebrecht; three brothers, Joe Ferraiolo and wife Mary of Winston-Salem, John S. Ferraiolo of Winston-Salem and David Ferraiolo and wife Sonia of Lexington; several nieces and nephews; a special sister-in-law, Debbie Stone Bargoil; and a cherished friend, Melba Carpenter. Funeral Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 23, 2001, at Hayworth-Miller Chapel by Pastor Randy Vogler. Burial will be in Oaklawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel and following the service at the home of Tracy Stone Egebrecht. TOTTEN
The Rev. William Totten died Saturday, Jan. 20, 2001. He is preceded in death by his infant daughter Annie Huliet Totten; his parents, David O. and Kate Reece Totten; his brother, Lt. David Reece Totten; and his sister, Kathryn Totten Vargo. He was born in Elkin, N.C. on Dec. 8, 1925. Survivors include his wife, Frances Allen Totten; his daughter, Missy Totten Craddock, and her husband, Curtis Dale Craddock of King; his son, John William Totten II of Charlotte; and his beloved grandson, William McNeill Totten of Winston-Salem. Also surviving are his niece Katy Vargo Garman and her family of Charlotte. The Rev. Totten served as associate minister of Knollwood Baptist Church from October 1968 until his retirement in December 1990. Additional ministries for the Rev. Totten included St. John’s Baptist Church in Charlotte as well as churches in White Plains, N.Y. and Lexington, Ky. He was a graduate of Baylor University and Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. He also completed doctoral studies at The Teachers College of Columbia University. He was an United States Navy veteran of World War II. The funeral service will be held Tuesday, Jan. 23 at 11 a.m. at Knollwood Baptist Church in Winston-Salem. Burial will follow immediately in the Knollwood Memorial Garden. The family will receive friends in the Fellowship Hall at Knollwood Baptist Church today from 7 to 9 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the scholarship fund of Knollwood Baptist Church Through The Week School, of which he was founder. WEBSTER
Mrs. Eleanor Jane Collins Webster, 76, of 134 West Church Street, Mount Airy, the widow of Paul Daniel '`Pete’’ Webster, passed away Saturday, Jan. 20, 2001 at her home. Mrs. Webster was born in Guilford County on June 14, 1924, the daughter of the late Robert Fitzhugh and Laura Jane Pruett Collins. She was retired from Northwestern Bank and was a member of Central United Methodist Church. Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Paula and Joey Moore of Tobaccoville, two stepsons and daughters-in-law, Dr. Paul D. and Jean Webster of Augusta, Ga.; and Dr. William Phillip and Ellen Webster of Punta Gorda, Fla.; a granddaughter, Madison Moore of Tobaccoville; six stepgranchildren; and a sister and brother-in-law, Betty Jean and Buck Rader of Lake Worth, Fla. The funeral service will be Tuesday, Jan. 23 at 2 p.m. at Central United Methodist Church. The service will be conducted by the Rev. Phillip Cole, with burial in the Oakdale cemetery. WELLMAN
Mr. Henry Marvin Wellman Jr. , 83, of Bermuda Village, died Saturday, Jan. 20, 2001, at Forsyth Medical Center. He was born Feb. 8, 1917, in Rhodhiss to Henry Marvin and Winnie Wilson Wellman. Mr. Wellman was a member of Clemmons Moravian Church. He attended Duke University and graduated from Lenoir-Rhyne College. He was a veteran of World War II serving the U.S. Marine Corps where he landed at Guata Canal and two additional campaigns in the Pacific. Mr. Wellman served 30 years with active duty in Chile, Japan, and the Pentagon and retired as a colonel and commanding officer of Marine Base 29 Palms, Calif. He then joined Sears & Roebuck for the next 18 years as an executive at their corporate headquarters in Chicago, Ill. He retired in 1983 and moved back to North Carolina. Her served as a docent at Reynolda House and helped found the local chapter of the Chaine de Rotisseurs. He is survived by his wife, Martha Moretz Wellman, of the home, three children; Jane Wellman Egger, and husband, Tate, of Seattle, Wash., Henry Marvin Wellman III, and wife Karen Lind, Vincent Allfred Wellman, and wife Margaret Walsh, all of Ann Arbor, Mich., six grandchildren; Lt. Deke Egger, USN, Graham Egger, Ned Wellman, Daniel Wellman, Laura Wellman and Patrick Wellman, a brother, John Wilson Wellman, of Chester, Pa., and a sister, Sara Wellman Hamrick, of Kannapolis. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 23 at Clemmons Moravian Church, with the Revs. Ray Burke and Jon Peterson officiating. Burial will be in Arlington National cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at Hayworth-Miller Kinderton Chapel. CORNATZER
ADVANCE — Mr. Paul Soloman Cornatzer, 88, of Fork-Bixby Road died early Monday evening at the VA Medical Center in Salisbury after a short illness. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Eaton Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Carol Jackson officiating. Burial will be in the Bixby Presbyterian Church cemetery. The family request memorials be considered for the Bixby Presbyterian Church cemetery Fund, c/o Mr. Graham Hendrix, 1901 Cornatzer Road, Advance NC 27006. Mr. Cornatzer was born in Davie County June 3, 1912, to the late Jacob Soloman and Ellen Berryman Cornatzer and was a retired nursing assistant with the VA Medical Center in Salisbury with 20 years of service. He was a charter member of the Bixby Presbyterian Church and a veteran of the U.S. Army. He was preceded in death by four brothers, Lallie Cornatzer, Clyde Cornatzer, Charlie Cornatzer and Bradley Cornatzer and four sisters, Althea Barney, Sallie Long, Lena Gilbert and Recie Sheets. Surviving are his wife of 50 years, Louise Crews Cornatzer of the home; three sons, Don Cornatzer of Marietta, Ga., Emery Cornatzer and his wife Kathy of Advance and Jeffery Cornatzer also of Advance; four grandsons, Chris Cornatzer, Neil Cornatzer, Scott Cornatzer and Chad Cornatzer; a sister, Sadie Gross of Pfafftown; and several nieces and nephews. The family will be at the funeral home Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. and other times at the residence on Fork-Bixby Road.
GRAFTON
Ms. Brenda Howard Grafton of 2724 Ansonia St. was born in Winston-Salem to Samuel and Rosa Williams Howard. She departed this life on Sunday morning, Jan. 21, at the Forsyth Medical Center following a period of illness. She was a resident of Winston-Salem for most of her life, where she was a graduate of Paisley High School and continued her education by attending Russell Business College and Barber Scotia College, where she received her bachelor’s degree in business administration. Ms. Grafton was a former employee of the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County and the Durham County public schools. She was recently employed by Nortel Networks, Research Triangle Park, and was a member of Grace Presbyterian Church. In the community she was a member of the National Council of Negro Women. Ms. Grafton was an avid sports enthusiast, participating on the Paisley High School tennis team and on the Barber Scotia College Women’s basketball team. Funeral services will be conducted 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 24, at Grace Presbyterian Church with Dr. Samuel Stevenson officiating. Interment will follow in Piedmont Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends 30 minutes prior to the service hour at the church. Surviving Ms. Grafton are her mother, Ms. Rosa Howard of the home; her father, Samuel Howard of Winston-Salem; her paternal grandmother, Ms. Elizabeth Ceasar of Winston-Salem; her former husband and stepson, Alphonzo Grafton and Shawn Reeve, both of Durham; a sister, Mary (Thomas) Chisholm of Winston-Salem; a brother and godfather, James Wilson of Amissville, Va. and a brother, Richard (Cleta) Wilson; a godchild, Travis Chisholm, all of Winston-Salem; three aunts; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. GRUBBS
GERMANTON — Mr. Donald Carlton Grubbs, 53, of Red Bank Road in Germanton, died Monday morning Jan. 22, 2001, in Salisbury following a lengthy period of declining health. A native of Forsyth County, he was born Oct. 31, 1947, to the late Ivey Carlton and Odessa Beshears Grubbs. Mr. Grubbs was a member of the Baux Mountain Baptist Church in Winston-Salem and was employed by R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co. for more than 33 years. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Gary Eugene Grubbs in 1969. He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Nancy Smith Grubbs of the home; two daughters, Donna Grubbs Rymer and husband Rodney and Angela Grubbs Waddell and husband Michael all of Salisbury. A funeral service will be conducted in the Hayworth-Miller Funeral Home, Rural Hall Chapel at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 24, 2001, officiated by the Rev. George Presson and Rev. Clayton Smith. Burial will follow in Crestview Memorial Park in Rural Hall, N.C. The family will receive friends and relatives from 7 to 9 this evening at the funeral home. KIRCHNER
Mrs. Olivia Bradford Welch Kirchner, of Winston-Salem, died Friday, Jan. 19, 2001, at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center. She was born in Ellisville, Miss., May 4, 1916, to the late Timothy Daniel Welch and Leonora Perry Estes Welch. Mrs. Kirchner was preceded in death by her husband of 24 years, Marcellus Clement Kirchner and one sister, Phredonia Estes Welch. Survivors include her son, Marcellus, and his wife, Theresa, of Norfolk, Va., one brother, Richard Noel Welch, and his wife, Yolande, of Memphis, Tenn., one sister, Mrs. Frances Rogers Welch Guthrie, of Memphis, Tenn., five nephews; William Bradford Guthrie, and his wife Sandy, of Cordova, Tenn., Edmund Louis Kirchner, and his wife, Pat, of Memphis, Tenn., William Michael Kirchner, and his wife, Clara, of Bartlett, Tenn., Timothy Ransom Welch, and his wife, Cyndi, of Apex, and Daniel Richard Welch, and his wife, Nancy, of Mineola, N.Y., four nieces; Mary Evelyn Kirchner Mulrooney, and her husband Al, of Collierville, Tenn., Linda Kirchner Honnoll, of Memphis, Tenn., Anna Kirchner Guiabo, of Hayward, Calif., and Kathleen Noel Welch Campbell and her husband, John, of Sanibel Island, Fla., and several great-nephews and great-nieces. Mrs. Kirchner graduated from Memphis State University. She worked for the Department of the Navy, the Veterans Administration, and retired from the staff of Wake Forest University. She was an avid gardener and bridge player, a member of the Piedmont Club, and a devoted parishioner of St. Leo the Great Catholic Church. She also was an active member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Woman’s Club of Winston-Salem, the Thursday Morning Music Club, the St. Theresa’s Guild, and the Winston-Salem Garden Study Club. A funeral mass will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 25, at St. Leo the Great Catholic Church with the Rev. Herbert Burke officiating. There will be a prayer service at Hayworth-Miller Funeral Home Silas Creek Chapel at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 24, and the family will receive friends immediately following until 9 p.m. Interment will be Friday, Jan. 26 at Calvary cemetery in Memphis, Tenn., with departure to the cemetery at 1 p.m. from Memphis Funeral Home Poplar Chapel. Jackson DeeMintz '`Bud’’ Looper, 74, of Healy Towers, died Saturday, Jan. 20, 2001 at Forsyth Medical Center. He was born Nov. 13, 1926 in Forsyth County and was a U.S. Army veteran. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Faye L. Cox. Surviving are a son and a daughter-in-law, Paul and Shelia Looper of Lexington; two sisters, Evelyn L. Frye and Anne L. Taylor of Winston-Salem, several nieces, nephews and friends. Mr. Looper will be missed by his family and friends. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Victory Baptist Church on Hampton Road in Clemmons by Pastor Michael Duffield. Burial will follow in Oaklawn Memorial Gardens. Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel is serving the family.
MARSHALL
Mrs. Marah J. Marshall, 88, of Silas Creek Manor died Monday, Jan. 22, 2001, at her residence. The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Hanes-Lineberry, Pierce Chapel in Kernersville with the Rev. Josh Sherfey presiding. Burial will follow in the Main Street United Methodist Church cemetery. Mrs. Marshall was a member of Main Street United Methodist Church. She was a homemaker, and a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul F. Marshall Sr. She is survived by a daughter, Frances M. Ebert and husband Hugh of Raleigh; two sons, David G. Marshall and wife Patricia of Winston-Salem and Paul F. Marshall Jr. of Greensboro; two sisters, Sulean Gray of Jamestown and Eva Strader of Walkertown; and three grandsons, Bradley Ebert, Bryan Ebert and Jason Marshall. MARTIN
Mr. Carl T. Martin, 91, died Sunday, Jan. 21 at The Oaks at Forsyth, 901 Bethesda Road, where he was a resident. He was born Aug. 4, 1909, in East Bend to the late Preston Jones Martin and Fannie Dean Martin. Mr. Martin was educated in the Yadkin County public schools and later attended Appalachian State University. He worked at N.C. State College, Sears and Roebuck Co. and Calvary Moravian Church. He served with the U.S. Army during World War II, being stationed in Italy and Northern Africa. Mr. Martin was preceded in death by two sisters, Nora Ward and Imo Evans and a brother, Oscar Martin. Survivors include his wife of 44 years, Sarah Ellen Kapp Martin of The Oaks at Forsyth; a brother, Irving L. Martin of Knoxville, Tenn.; a number of nieces and nephews, Dorothy Rozier, Faye Salley, Paul Evans Jr., Noel Martin, Tommy Martin and Allen Martin; and in Winston-Salem, Evelyn W. Williams and Marvin M. Ward. Mr. Martin was a member of Calvary Moravian Church, where a memorial service in his honor will be conducted 11 a.m. Wednesday by the Rev. Mrs. Arzell Phillips McNabb, 87, of 5255 Shattalon Drive died Monday, Jan. 22, 2001, at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center. Mrs. McNabb was born in Bessemer, Ala., on June 24, 1913, to Elijah Washington and Ida Wells Phillips. She was a member of North Point Baptist Church and sang soprano in the Mozart Club Messiah performance every year for 15 years through the 1999 performance. She is survived by two daughters, Joy McNabb and Ruth Bokun of Penhook, Va.; a brother, Elijah W. Phillips Jr. and his wife Rose of Chattanooga, Tenn.; her beloved nieces, Jeri Dian Kirby and Emily Raines, beloved nephew, Terry Phillips and their children, Guy, Roy, Gavin, Jordan, Michael and Charlotte all of Chattanooga; her beloved cousin, Agnes; other members of the W.G. Phillips family; and her dear and close friends, Paul and Ruby Worrell of Winston-Salem. Mrs. McNabb is also survived by three nieces and a nephew of the McNabb family, Alice Kimball, Betsy Grant and Linda and Bob Hudson. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Vogler & Sons Reynolda Road Chapel. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Mrs. McNabb will be sent to Rogers Funeral Home in Jasper, Tenn., for burial.
