Mrs. Lorena Manaugh Andrew, 82, died Dec. 22 at Arbor Acres. A memorial service celebrating her life will be held at 6 p.m. Friday, Feb. 2, at Pfafftown Christian Church. Dr. Tom Everton will officiate. Surviving are her husband of almost 60 years, Dan E. Andrew of Brighton Gardens; her two sons, Dr. Ray Hall Andrew and his wife, Dr. Susan Willis, of Winston-Salem, and Dr. John Allan Andrew and his wife, Dr. Lori Andrew, of Leesburg, Va.; one daughter, Lynne Andrew Dickerson and her husband, Francis, of Los Gatos, Calif.; and six grandchildren. WINNETKA, Ill. — Louise W. Bailey, nee Williamson, 53, the wife of B. Carlton Bailey Jr.; the mother of Katherine and Holt Bailey; daughter of Louise and the late Edwin Williamson; sister of Forrest Priddy, Katherine Williamson and Holt Williamson. A memorial service will be 3 p.m. Feb. 3 at Kenilworth Union Church, 211 Kenilworth Ave., Kenilworth, Ill. Interment will be private. BLACKBURN
On Sunday, Jan. 28, 2001, Mrs. Olivia Stimpson Blackburn was called home at her residence at 1607 Harrison Ave., Winston-Salem. Olivia was a lifelong member of Union Baptist Church where she served as a faithful member of the usher board. Ms. Blackburn was preceded in death by her mother and father, Landson and Edith Blackburn. She is survived by a sister, Ms. Carolyn Seda of Nutley, N.J.; a brother, Mr. James L. Blackburn of Winston-Salem; a devoted aunt, Miss Lillian Stimpson of Winston-Salem; an aunt, Miss Beatrice Stimpson of Passaic, N.J.; two devoted nephews, Mr. Edward (Pecola) Blackburn and Mr. Chris Young of Winston-Salem; five nieces; 10 great-nieces; and a host of relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held Wednesday afternoon, Jan. 31, 2001, at Union Baptist Church where the family will receive friends from 3 to 3:30 p.m. at which time the homegoing service will start. BROWN
Mrs. Ollie M. Brown, 91, of 848 Holland St. died Monday, Jan. 29, 2001, at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. She was born Aug. 19, 1909, in Swainsboro, Ga., to John Albert and Emma Tapley Lawson. Mrs. Brown was a homemaker and a member of Green Street United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Kyzer Brown and a daughter, Barbara Council. Survivors include two sons, Roy E. Brown and wife Betty of Clemmons and Richard T. Brown of Winston-Salem; a daughter, Margaret Harden of Savannah, Ga.; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be conducted 11 a.m. Tuesday at Forsyth Memorial Park by the Rev. Kelly P. Carpenter. Memorials may be made to Hospice and Palliative CareCenter, 1100-C S. CRAIG
Mary Edison Campbell Craig, 93, passed away Sunday evening, Jan. 28, 2001. She was born in Iredell County to the late Lula Sedmedia Horne and Deco Frendo Edison on Sept. 12, 1907. The early years of her life were spent in Statesville working in the Crescent Hosiery Mill and Stimpson Hosiery Mill. She was an active member of Western Avenue Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school from age 16 until she moved to Winston-Salem in 1950. She was married to George William Campbell from 1927 until his death in 1929. They had one daughter, Frances Arlene. In 1939 Mary married Ralph Glenn Craig. In 1950 they moved to Winston-Salem where she worked at the Piedmont Bible Book Store for 12 years and at Hinkle’s Book Store for 16 years. She became a member of Southside Baptist Church where she served as a Sunday school teacher, Sunday school director, training union leader, homebound director, member of WMU and deacon. She was a volunteer worker for Pilot Mountain Baptist Association for seven years. After her husband’s death and her declining health, she went to live with her daughter in King in August 1993. Mary loved her Sunday school class members and had requested that everyone she taught through the years sit as a group at her funeral. Her funeral service at Southside Baptist Church will commence at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 1. The body will lie in state for 30 minutes before the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Southside Baptist Church, 401 Sprague St., Winston-Salem, NC 27127. Interment will begin at 3 p.m. at the New Hope Baptist Church cemetery, Statesville. Surviving are her daughter, Frances Campbell Shockley and husband William L. Shockley Jr. of King; three grandchildren, W.L. Shockley III and wife Sandra Koop of Bluefield, Va., David C. Shockley and wife Renee Wade of Warsaw, Va., and Timothy C. Shockley of Niceville, Fla.; and three great-grandchildren, Caro-lyn Shockley (Scott) Ralph of Orlando, Fla., W.L. Shockley IV of Shawnee, Okla., and Lauren Shockley of Warsaw, Va. One surviving sister, Cleo Cresimore, lives in Greensboro.
FURCHES
CLEMMONS — Mrs. Edna Mizell Furches, 89, of Clemmons died Monday, Jan. 29, 2001, at Forsyth Medical Center. She was the widow of the late J. Frank Furches. She was born in Roper , N.C. on May 22, 1911, to John D. and Sarah Bateman Mizell. She was a graduate of Roper High School and East Carolina Teachers College, now ECU. She taught school for several years. During World War II, she worked for Allied Aviation and the office of flying safety. Mrs. Furches retired from the Phoenix Co. after 30 years of service in 1976. She is survived by a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday at Vogler & Sons Clemmons Chapel by the Rev. Samuel Murphy. Burial will follow in the Clemmons First Baptist Church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 Tuesday evening at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Wake Forest University or to the charity of the donor’s choice.

HAMPTONVILLE — Mrs. Pauline Allen Graybeal, 80, of Hamptonville died Saturday, Jan. 27, 2001, at North Carolina Baptist Hospital. Mrs. Graybeal was born Jan. 28, 1920, in Ashe County to Robert and Jane Osbourne Allen. Mrs. Graybeal was a loving wife, mother and grandmother and was a member of Mountain View Baptist Church, Hamptonville. Surviving are her husband of 63 years, Charles Evans Graybeal of the home; two daughters, Evelyn Harper of Pennsylvania and Patricia White of Delaware; three grandchildren; two great grandchildren; one sister, Nell Young of Mountain City, Tenn.; and one brother; Bruce Allen of Hamptonville. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan 31 at Mountain View Baptist Church by Rev. Tim Tucker. Mrs. Graybeal will lie in state 10:30-11 a.m. Burial will follow the service in the church cemetery. Mrs. Suzanne B. Hall, 74, of Clemmons died Saturday night after a brief illness. Mrs. Hall was born and raised in St. Paul, Minn., attended the University of Minnesota and had worked in the law office of Robert Tally for 20 years. She was preceded in death by her husband Don, her son Donnie and her daughter Tracy. She is survived by two grandchildren, Travis Hall of Sacramento, Calif., and Danielle Suzanne Hall of Clemmons. A memorial service will be held 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 30, in the sanctuary of King of Glory Lutheran Church, 2580 Old Glory Road, Clemmons. In lieu of flowers, it is requested that gifts be made to Vests for Life, P.O. Box 34, Clemmons, NC 27012, which provides protective vests for police dogs.
HUNTER
BOONVILLE — Mr. Grady J. Hunter, 74, of U.S. Highway 601 passed away Monday, Jan. 29, 2001, at his home. He was born Sept. 3, 1926, in Yadkin County to the late Otto and Mallie Caudle Hunter. Mr. Hunter was a veteran of World War II, where he served with the U.S. Army as a platoon sergeant. He was a member of Boonville Baptist Church, where he was a former Sunday-school teacher. Mr. Hunter was a retired farmer and was active in the government of Yadkin County, where he served as a county commissioner for 22 years. During this span of service he served on the Local and Regional Public Library Board; Mental Health Advisory Board; Certified Development Board; Emergency Medical Services Regional Council; Surry County Housing Consortium; Northwest Piedmont Council of Government; first vice president with the N.C. Association of County Commissioners Board of Directors; National Association of Counties Board of Directors; National Association of Counties Job Task Force; N.C. Board of Health; and the N.C. Association of County Commissioners Agriculture and Rural Affairs Steering Committee. Mr. Hunter was a member of the N.C. Tobacco Growers As-sociation, Yadkin County Tobacco Growers Association.; Yadkin County Corn Growers Association and was a former member of the A.S.C.S. State Committee. Surviving are his wife of 51 years, Nell W. Hunter of the home; his children, Glenda H. Chambers, David Chambers and grandson Jonathan '`J.D’‘ Chambers, all of Greensboro; Darlene (Eddie) Hampton and grandchildren Bridget Hampton, Nicholas Hampton, all of Elkin; Lynn (Dale) Rose and grandchildren Brian (Amy) Rose, Sarah Rose and Nathan Rose, all of Jonesville; Brent (Leshia) Hunter and grandchildren Landon Hunter and Jessica Hunter, all of Yadkinville; Josh Baity of Yadkinville; his sister, Mary Ruth H. Bolin of Boonville; special neighbor, the Junior Cave family; and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Hunter was preceded in death by his brothers and sisters, William Lee Hunter, Irene Huff, Roy J. Hunter, Caldonia Burcham and Ann Casstevens. His funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Boonville Baptist Church by the Rev. Larry Thompson. He will lie in state 30 minutes before the service. Burial will be in the Boonville cemetery with full military honors. RURAL HALL — Mr. Elsworth Garland Johnson, 91, of 295 Jackson St. died at his home Sunday evening, Jan. 28, 2001, after a period of declining health. Mr. Johnson was born in Mercer County, W.Va., on April 24, 1909, the son of the late Melvin and Inez Johnson. He was of the Baptist faith and had retired with 40 years of service from Keystone Coal Mines in Keystone, W.Va. Surviving are his wife of 67 years, Nannie Louise Dean Johnson of the home, 10 children, Paul Johnson, Thelma Johnson and Jackie Johnson, all of Rural Hall, Daniel Johnson, Eileen Tackett, Linda Petrovich and Jimmy Johnson, all of King, Sylvia Wade of Martinsville, Va., John Johnson of Pinnacle and Brenda Clark of Winston-Salem; 22 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Dovie Bentley of Pineville, W.Va., Thelma Simons and Helen Yates of Princeton, W.Va.; and two brothers, Alan Johnson of Richmond, Va., and Junior Blevins of Mayberry, W.Va.. He was preceded in death by a son, Charley Johnson, and a brother, Edward Johnson, formerly of Bluefield, W.Va. Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 31, 2001, at Hayworth-Miller Chapel in Rural Hall by the Rev. John T. Byerly and the Rev. Doug Anders. SPARTA — Martha Rogers Johnson, wife of Dr. Terry Johnson, died Jan. 27, 2001, at their home after a lengthy illness. She was born Aug. 22, 1949, to Patsy Sheppard Rogers and Ernest Rogers. She graduated from North Forsyth High School in Winston-Salem in 1968 and from Central Piedmont Community College in 1970 with a degree in dental hygiene. Surviving in addition to her husband and parents are her two sons, Zachary T. Johnson and Samuel R. Johnson. A sister, Mrs. Kevin (Robin) Spainhour, of Winston-Salem survives as does her brother, Robert Rogers, his wife Deborah and their son, Landon of High Point. Martha practiced dental hygiene with her husband for 20 years and was active in many community organizations including First Baptist Church of Sparta, PTO, Alleghany County Band Boosters, Boy Scout Troop 299 and the Second District Dental Society Auxiliary of North Carolina. The family will receive friends from 7-9 at Grandview Funeral Home in Sparta on Tuesday evening, Jan. 30. The funeral service will be held 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Sparta on Wednesday, Jan. 31, with interment in Sparta cemetery. JOHNSON
William M. Johnson Sr., 95, of Winston-Salem went home to be with his Lord Sunday, Jan. 28, 2001. A native of Yadkin County, he was born Jan. 1, 1906. He was one of 10 children of Romey and Mary Lou Ada Cockerham Johnson in the community of Boonville. He was preceded in death by four brothers, three sisters, his wife Jessie Reece, daughter Clara Renegar and grandson Brent Johnson Mackie. He was a longtime member of Salem Baptist Church and until recent years was very active serving as deacon and Sunday school teacher. Mr. Johnson came to Winston-Salem to operate a streetcar and was an employee of Duke Power Company for 42 years. Mr. Johnson is survived by three sons, William M. Johnson Jr. and Carolyn Birmingham, Ala., Rex L. Johnson and Betty of Clemmons and Dr. J. Barry Johnson and Marilyn of Winston-Salem; one daughter, Mrs. Mary Lou Mackie of Yadkinville; one brother, P.M. Johnson of Mocksville; a sister, Lucille Gross Kelly of Hickory; 10 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 30, at Vogler’s Clemmons Chapel conducted by Rev. Floyd Boles, Dr. Gary Chapman and Dr. William Campbell with entombment in Westlawn Mausoleum Chapel. MOCKSVILLE — Mr. James Franklin Kasell, 65, of Avon Street passed away Sunday, Jan. 28, 2001, at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem. Mr. Kasell was born Aug. 25, 1935, in Williamsburg, S.C., to Florence Criddle Kasell and the late Travis W. Kasell. Mr. Kasell was a member of Blaise Baptist Church and worked as an oculist, making eyeglass frames. Mr. Kasell is survived by his mother, Florence Criddle Kasell Downey of Mocksville; two sons, William Kasell of Parlin, N.J., and Kevin Kasell of South Carolina; a daughter, Kimberly Sobieski and husband Fred of Keyport, N.J.; a brother, William Kasell and wife Elaine of Belmar, N.J.; a sister, Aris A. Rockhill and husband Bob of Mocksville; and a grandchild, Jordyn Sobieski. Funeral services will be held 8 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 30, 2001, at Davie Funeral Service Chapel with the Rev. Glenn Sellers officiating. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. prior to the service. Burial will follow Thursday, Feb. 1, 2001, in Elloree, S.C.
