PRITCHARD
Mrs. Bettie Bobbitt Pritchard, 72, of Winston-Salem died Tuesday, Jan. 30, 2001, at her residence. She was born March 1, 1928, to Louis Richard Bobbitt and Florence Shugart Bobbitt. She was a member of First Baptist Church and the Elizabeth Barnette Sunday school class. Mrs. Pritchard was married to Charlie Gray Pritchard on Oct. 23, 1949. Surviving are her husband of the home; her daughter and son-in-law, Cindy Pritchard (Tony) Martin of Tobaccoville; a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Betty and G.R. '`Jack’‘ Gordon of Winston-Salem; and a nephew, Lee Gordon of Washington, D.C. Visitation will be from 7 to 9 Thursday evening at Vogler & Sons Reynolda Road Chapel. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 2, 2001, at the funeral home by Dr. Cecil Cave and Dr. David Hughes. Burial will follow at Forsyth Memorial Park. THACKER
Our precious momma, grand-mother, sister and friend went to be with our Lord Jesus Christ on Jan. 31, 2001. Mary '`Billie’‘ Lyle Dyer Thacker was born April 1, 1917, to John and Julia Dyer. She lived in Eden most of her life. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 42 years, Benjamin D. Thacker. She was a member of North Spray Christian Church, where she faithfully served for more than 50 years. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, John and Kathy Thacker of Kernersville; a daughter and son-in-law, Cindy Thacker and Keith Hester of Raleigh; two loving granddaughters, Brittany and Courtney Thacker; two loving grandsons, Jordan and Casey Hester; and a loving brother, Lawson Dyer of Martinsville, Va. Billie was a registered nurse for 37 years, many of which were at Morehead Hospital. She was a member of the N.C. Nurse’s Association and the Eastern Star. She was an angel on Earth who cared for many people. She touched the life of everyone she met. She will be remembered dearly by all of her family and many, many friends. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 2, at Fair Funeral Home in Eden. The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 3, 2001, at North Spray Christian Church, Eden, conducted by the Rev. Marcy Reid-Smith. Burial will be at Ridgeview cemetery, Eden. TRANSOU
Mrs. Bernice Stone Transou of 3128 Carver School Road departed this life Monday, Jan. 29, 2001. She was born June 30, 1920, in Danbury to the late John Henry and Ada Scales Stone. Mrs. Transou was a member of Goler Memorial AME Zion Church, where she was an usher and a missionary. She was also involved in several other church activities and served faithfully until her health failed. Mrs. Transou was a homemaker and began Granny B’s Day Care in 1972 and retired in 1984. She leaves to mourn, her husband of 60 years, James William Transou; three daughters, Jamie L., S. Denise and J. Remae Transou; a son, Harry J. (Darlene) Transou; six grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; a sister, Geneva S. Glenn; a devoted niece, Lena J. (Pete) Puryear; a sister-in-law, Mary F. Payne; two stepsisters, Melrose Shore and Lillian Booker; a stepbrother, James Jarrett; a devoted friend, Bleaker Ellis; several other devoted relatives, friend and church members. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Feb. 2, 2001, from Goler Memorial AME Zion Church, where the Rev. Dr. Seth O. Lartey will officiate. Interment will be in Piedmont Memorial Garden. The family will receive friends an hour before the service from noon to 1 p.m. at the church. The remains may be viewed today at Clark S. Brown and Sons Funeral Chapel, 727 N. WARREN
Aaron D. Warren, 48, a resident of 4281 Mecum Place Road, died Monday, Jan 29, 2001, as the result of a house fire at his residence. Mr. Warren was born in Kernersville, a son of the Rev. Garland Warren and Lucille Chambers Warren. He graduated from East Forsyth High School, served an enlistment in the U.S. Air Force and was last employed at Bradford Village-East as a nursing assistant. He was a member of Saint Paul United Methodist Church, Kernersville. His father preceded him in death. Surviving relatives include his wife, Mrs. Sue Todd Warren; three daughters, Tiffany Warren and Brittany Warren, all of the home and Crystal Warren of Winston-Salem; a son, Adrian Carter of Winston-Salem; his mother, Mrs. Lucille Warren of Kernersville; a granddaughter, Deja Carter of Winston-Salem; two sisters, Mrs. Sylvia (Genell) Brooks and Ms. Shirley White, all of Kernersville; four brothers, Ronnie (Betty) Warren, Reginald Warren, Malcolm Warren, all of Winston-Salem and Michael Warren of Kernersville; aunts, Mrs. Mozelle Warren, Mrs. Delores (Odell) Warren and Mrs. Mabel Pettigrew. There are nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends, among them, Donnie Hilliard. Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Friday at Saint Paul United Methodist Church, Kernersville by the Rev. Shirley Donnell and the Rev. William Jones. Burial will follow at National cemetery, Salisbury with military rites. Family visitation will be at Saint Paul United Methodist Church from 7 to 8 p.m. Thursday and other times at the residence of Mrs. Lucille Warren, 322 Nelson St., Kernersville. WEAVIL
Mrs. Rachel Evelyn Reeve Weavil died Jan. 29, 2001, at Forsyth Medical Center. She resided at Brighton Gardens in Winston-Salem. She was a former resident of Walnut Cove and Julian. Mrs. Weavil was born June 6, 1907, in Fairfield, Ind., to the late Hadley and Adaline Reeve. Rachel was the youngest and the last surviving of 14 children. She was a homemaker and a member of Westover Church in Greensboro. She was preceded in death by her husband, Verland A. Weavil, on Jan. 31, 1974. She is survived by a son, Jeff Weavil and wife Bennie of Germanton; grand-sons David Weavil and wife Athena of King and Darrell Weavil and wife Brenda of Winston-Salem; and great-grandchildren Kayleigh Weavil, Jonathan Weavil, Nicholas Weavil and Dylan Snow. A graveside funeral service will be held 3 p.m. Thursday at Shady Grove United Methodist Church cemetery in Wallburg, with Pastor Don Miller officiating. The family will receive friends after the service in the church fellowship hall. BLANKLEY
LAKE PANASOFFKEE, Fla. - Mr. James H. Blankley, 71, formerly of Elkin and St. Petersburg, Fla. died March 6, 2001, at his home. He was born in Norfolk, Va. He moved here from Virginia in 1946 and had lived in St. Petersburg for 40 years. Mr. Blankley was a World War II U.S. Army and Air Force veteran serving in Vietnam and the Korean conflict. He was an employee of St. Petersburg Heating & Air Conditioning Co. Mr. Blankley was a member of Pinellas Park Elks Club #2217 (past exalted ruler), Too Far and the VFW of Lake Panasoffkee. Surviving are his wife of 311/2 years, Earlene Blankley; two sons, James Jr. of Hamptonville and Franklin of Largo, Fla.; three daughters, Gerri Lynn Blankley Collins and Dorothea Guyer of Elkin and Karen Lance of St. Petersburg; a sister, Lamora Phillips of Orange Park, Fla.; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. A funeral service will be Friday, March 9, 2001, at Royal Palm North Funeral Chapel and cemetery, St. Petersburg, Fla.
CAMPBELL
Mrs. Louise Richardson Campbell, the daughter of Sam and Mary Richardson, was born Aug. 4, 1906, in Darlington, S.C. She attended school in Darlington County but had resided in Winston-Salem for approximately 80 years. Mrs. Campbell was a faithful member of St. John Christian Methodist Episcopal Church where she was a faithful member of the senior choir, the Missionary Society, the Hospitality Club and the Senior Citizens Club. Louise was a retired employee of R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co., Factory #8. After 34 years of service, she retired in 1957. She was a member of Sethos Court #105, Daughters of Isis. For seven years after her retirement, she was a volunteer deliverer for Meals on Wheels. Tuesday, March 6, 2001, marked the triumphant and of her earthly life. She was preceded in death by her husband, David; a sister, Minnie; and a son, Willie Otis Campbell. Surviving with memories to cherish are Mrs. Connie C. Thomas, daughter and caregiver and daughter Lillie (Billie) Jones of Winston-Salem; sons Benjamin (Jerri) Parks of Mountain View, Calif. and Earl Harrell of Washington, D.C.; eight grandchildren L'Anita (Rondie) Gore, Sharon Jones and Otis Murphy Jr., Benjamin R. Parks Jr., Ralph and Ronda Parks, Angela Simpson and Geri Ann Aquiller; three great-grandchildren, Jourdan Gore, Billy D. Jones and Mason Gore; nieces; nephews; cousins; and church family and friends including a devoted friend, Mrs. Teretha Milner. DODD
Mr. Lloyd Howard Dodd Sr., of 613 Burton St. passed away Sunday, March 4, 2001, at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home after a period of illness. He was a native of Surry County and a resident of Winston-Salem for most of his life, and was formerly employed by the sanitation department of Winston-Salem. He is survived by three daughters, Linda and Brenda Dodd of Greensboro, and Bessie McNeill of Winston-Salem; two sons, Lloyd Dodd Jr. and Michael Dodd, both of Winston-Salem; three sisters; a brother; two aunts; three uncles; nieces; nephews; and other relatives and friends. A service of memory will be held Saturday, March 10, 2001, at 2 p.m. at the chapel of Hooper Funeral Home with evangelist Maria McGee, officiating. (HOOPER)

Mrs. Debra "Debbie" Talbert Dyke, 40, of 751 Faircloth St., Winston-Salem died March 7, 2001, at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Whitley's Funeral Home Chapel, Kannapolis with the Rev. Jeff Black and the Rev. Tommy Torrence officiating. Interment will be in Oakwood cemetery, Concord. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Mrs. Dyke was born July 20, 1960, in Cabarrus County to C. Ray Talbert and JoAnn Campbell Talbert. She was a graduate of Concord High School in 1979 and of the Baptist faith. Surviving are her husband, Greg Dyke; three children, Holly Burris, Amanda Burris and Dustin Burris; a sister, Mrs. Lanny (Cathy) Smith of Concord; and her parents, C. Ray Talbert and JoAnn Campbell Talbert of Concord.

Mr. Owen Moon Ernst, 71, died Thursday, March 8, 2001, at Forsyth Medical Center. He was born April 17, 1929, in Forsyth County to William Wallace and Irene Watkins Ernst Sr. Mr. Ernst was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and a member of Advent Moravian Church. He was retired from Western Electric and was commander of American Legion Post 55 for seven years. Surviving are his loving wife, Betty Blake Ernst of the residence; a son, Michael O. Ernst and his wife Linda of Advance; two granddaughters, Jennifer and Ashley Ernst of Advance; two sisters, Olive Bowman and Sylvia Cribb of Winston-Salem; and three brothers, James P. Ernst, Wilburn W. Ernst, and George R. Ernst, all of Winston-Salem. The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday March 10, 2001, at Advent Moravian Church by the Rev. Tripp May. Solomon Durand Everett departed his life March 5, 2001, at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center, Fayetteville. He was born Aug. 24, 1956, to Cordell and Mary Everett. He was a graduate of Douglas Byrd Senior High School (1974), and Wake Forest University (1978), where he had an outstanding football career. He was a former employee of Phillip Morris USA, a member of Twin City Choristers and a youth mentor. He leaves to cherish his memories his parents, Cordell and Mary Everett; wife Paullette Foman Everett of Winston-Salem; brother Pete (Shirley) Everett of Fayetteville; sister Terri Everett of Fayetteville; and a host of nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends. PFAFFTOWN - Mrs. Shirley A. Folger, 65, died Thursday, March 8, 2001, at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. She was born Jan. 12, 1936, in Bozeman, Mont., to Henry L. and Nina K. Anderson. Mrs. Folger was a homemaker and a manager of World Mission Shop on Reynolda Road. She was a member of Bethania Moravian Church. She was preceded in death by her father. Surviving are her husband, Sherl Folger of the home; two daughters, Mrs. Shari Crangle of Lewisville, and Ms. Molly Bean of Winston-Salem; her mother, Mrs. Nina Anderson of Independence Village, Winston-Salem; a sister, Mrs. Marilyn Barber of Plantation, Fla.; and three grandchildren, Savannah Crangle and Collin Crangle of Lewisville, and Rachel Bean of Winston-Salem. Funeral services for Mr. Walter W. "John" France, 80, of 1530 Darien Blvd., Winston-Salem, will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 10, 2001, at Exodus Progressive Primitive Baptist Church, Cook School Road, Pilot Mountain with the Rev. Lewis Crawford giving the eulogy. Burial will follow in Skyline Memory Gardens in Mount Airy with military rites. He was born in Stokes County May 8, 1920, to the late Joseph and Ida Forrest France, was a member of Messiah Baptist Church and a veteran of the U.S. Army during World War II. He died Wednesday morning at the home of his daughter, Ms. Vernelle France in Winston-Salem. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Roberta Penn France; five daughters and three sons-in-law, Mrs. Margie Moore and husband Joe of Dover, Del., Mrs. Hattie Taylor and husband David, Mrs. Lucy Jessup, Mrs. Elizabeth Leake and Ms. Vernelle France all of Winston-Salem; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Mr. Joe France, Mr. Kenneth France Sr. and wife Janice and the Rev. John W. France and wife Dianne all of Winston-Salem; 17 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Carrie F. Santa Maria, Calif. - Mr. Grover Burke Knight, 76, died March 4, 2001, in Santa Maria after a long illness. He was born Aug. 25, 1924, in Stokes County to James Henry Knight and Emma Seawell. He entered the U.S. Army Air Corps in 1941 and served for 21 years. He then worked in retail sales until his retirement. Surviving are his wife, Karla; two sons, Burke Knight of Victorville, Calif., and Cliff Knight of Santa Maria; a daughter, Violet Loggins of Winston-Salem; a grandson; and a granddaughter. KERNERSVILLE - Mr. Samuel Lee Lawson, 81, died Thursday, March 8, 2001, at his home. Mr. Lawson was born Sept. 21, 1919, in Stokes County. He was a farmer and had worked at R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co. as a security guard for 23 years. He was a member of Goodwill Baptist Church. Surviving are his wife, Edna Taylor Lawson of the home; two daughters, Linda and her husband Odell Myers of Tobaccoville, and Debra and her husband Jimmy Whitley of Walkertown; three sons, David and his wife Betty Lawson of Kernersville, Ronnie and his wife Carolyn Lawson of Lawsonville, and Sammy Ray Lawson of Ocala, Fla.; five grandchildren, Todd Lawson and wife Norma, Chris Lawson and wife Lisa, Bobby Lawson, Ricky Lawson and Jennifer Lawson; and two great-grandchildren, Zachary Lawson and Bradley Lawson. A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday March 10, 2001, at Hayworth-Miller-Cain Chapel by the Rev. Mervin J. Garrison and Brother Todd Lawson. ANSONVILLE - Mrs. Mary Elizabeth "Beth" Tyson Lee, 78, died Thursday, March 8, 2001, at her home. She was born Nov. 4, 1922, in Anson County, a daughter of the late Edgar Baucom and Ann Eliza Martin Tyson. Mrs. Lee was a hairdresser and a member of Ansonville Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Angela Beverly, and a brother, Sam Tyson. A funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 10, 2001, at Ansonville Baptist Church with the Rev. Dennis Underwood officiating. Burial will be in Bethlehem cemetery in Ansonville. Visitation will follow the service at the church. Surviving are her husband, Arnold J.
